OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
PetWoman · 26/03/2013 20:17

Dream I didn't know you could get a chicken pox vaccine! Is it effective? How much does it cost?

Really hope poor B recovers quickly and from now on your house is illness-free. It's about bloomin' time you had a break.

Something is Wrong with DS: for 5 weeks he's gone to bed pretty easily, but for the last 4 nights he's fought it. After an hour of cuddling, crying and playing (with the curtains, in my arms) I'm now feeding him to sleep for the second time this week. He's had a bottle of milk, calpol, water, plenty to eat, usual routine - it's like he's just forgotten how to go to sleep by himself. Confused I really hope it's a temporary blip caused by teething or something, and not a new pattern!

Hope everyone else gets a good night's sleep...

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 26/03/2013 20:50

TMI alert: I am testing my brand-new mooncup! I keep wanting to rush to the toilet to check it's not leaking. I've lost the instruction leaflet.

Stacks · 27/03/2013 09:41

Morning all.

I hope poorly DCs get better soon. I also didn't know there was a chicken pox vaccine. Seems like a good idea really, especially if your kids dont get chicken pox early, as it can be dangerous when older.

Pet, hope sleeping improves soon. Have you looked up 'wonder weeks' could that explain it? I'm sure they don't stop having growth spurts when they're older too. Either way, brooking its a fast passing phase.

Too, I've always been intrigued by mooncups, but too scared to try one. I bought some cloth pads to try for when AF comes back, as I'm allergic to normal sanitary towels. AF has threatened a couple of times with a few days of brown spotting, and occasional red smear, but no actual flow. No idea what it means, is that AF back or not??

Stacks · 27/03/2013 09:48

I was going to update with me too! T is sleeping better, but not as good as he was at 8 weeks (4-5hrs) he's now waking me every 3, it's better than every hour though!

I'm keeping a spreadsheet of his eat/sleep/wake schedule, trying to see if there's any natural pattern I can use to set some kind of routine. So far I've learnt he needs to sleep again about an hour after getting up for the day. I can spot his tired signals and get him to nap in the pram through the day, but only about 30mat a time, he then wakes for about an hour before tiring again. Really inefficient, if we go out he naps a couple of hours at a time, then plays longer on waking. Hoping he'll get used to the pram and start sleeping longer in it.

Little bit of brooking for my dad? He might be going in for his op today, if they don't cancel again. He really wants to get it done, so brooking they say to come in. If so, op will be tomorrow before midday. I'm really nervous, though he claims he's not fussed by it. :(

Yes, and countries like Germany, Canada, USA all immunise against chicken pox. We don't, ?? to do with increased rates of shingles in the elderly? Not sure though. The only reason I haven't so far is I'd have to travel to Manchester, twice. It's a series of two injections. Think its a bit over £100, which doesn't put me off. 3 dc with c.p. is my worst nightmare, or scarring, or just really ill dc yet again .

Still no af for me too but interested in your experiment. Do you have heavy or light af though? I have only had 2 periods since Dec 2009 but they're very heavy anyway, were horrendous between pregnancies. Possibly as bad as scarlet - soaking through everything within an hour, having to change x 3 per night for soaking through...

Brooking for your dad stacks, I'm sure he'll be in safe hands, and here's to a quick recovery for him.

musicalmrs · 27/03/2013 17:21

Also interested in the mooncup experiments. I've always been tempted, but have been a bit too scared to try. I had horrendously heavy AFs when not on the pill... now I'm on a different one, so I have no idea what's in store as it hasn't made an appearance yet...

Brooking hard for your dad stacks.

Hope all the other poorly brookers are getting better - Iz is pretty much back to normal now thankfully!

Biscuits sends her love to us all :)

TheLittleFriend · 27/03/2013 19:02

Brooking for your dad stacks. And good luck for settling T in to a nap routine. My dd only ever napped for 30 mins at a time at that age, but she got much better as she got older. Putting her in the pram really helped. She now sleeps brilliantly at night too, hope T will as well!

So, J had the cranial osteopathy yesterday. The woman who did it was great, and did most of the treatment on his pelvis, which surprised me. She said that in a very quick birth the 'release' part of the natural 'squeeze and release' of childbirth doesn't happen, leaving their body tightly coiled. She could feel this tightness in his lower abdomen and tried to correct it. He still spent hours of last night trying to poo though, so I don't think it's done much!

PetWoman · 27/03/2013 22:00

Ooh Musical did Biscuits send a message through Facebook? How's she doing? I still miss her - and other Brookers who've gone quiet. Scream, if you're lurking, hope you're doing ok.

Brooking for your dad, Stacks. Assuming the op goes ahead, how soon will you know if it's been a success?

musicalmrs · 27/03/2013 22:19

I had a brief chat with her on FB Pet. She's well! Hope Scream's doing well as well - missing all the quiet brookers :(

Is it a hormonal thing to be completely jealous of pregnant friends/ those with newborns?! I can't stop thinking about babies and it's RIDICULOUS. Interestingly, I have no jealousy whatsoever for fellow brookers ( even those with potentially exciting news - just warm fuzzy feelings and so much happiness - but for other people on Facebook.. argh! Must snap out of it...

PetWoman · 28/03/2013 06:29

Little the osteopathy sounds interesting. Do you have a follow-up appointment? Hope you see a gradual improvement, if not an immediate one!

PetWoman · 28/03/2013 06:54

Oh and Too how's the mooncup this morning?! I haven't had a period yet since DS's birth, but mine were light before so I was pretty happy with tampons. I do think the mooncup sounds like a brilliant idea, though if you don't get blood everywhere

Stacks any news on your dad? Re routines, I remember the Baby Whisperer recommended a 3-hourly system where they eat, play (inc nappy changes etc) then sleep. As they get older they play for longer and sleep less. Anyway, 30 min naps are v inefficient (speaking as a fellow sufferer) so I hope T manages some longer ones for you. Glad the nights are improving!

Good point re my DS and Wonder Weeks. He's 1 on Easter Day so maybe that's the problem. Last night we ended up leaving him to cry in his cot for 5 mins after 8pm, when all else had failed. It worked, in that when I went back to him and cuddled him, he snuggled into my arms and finally fell asleep.

Dream I didn't realise other countries vaccinated. Interesting. Agree, 3 DC with chicken pox would be dreadful! How is B today?

Musical glad Iz is better. I can understand the jealousy thing, though I don't want DC2 yet (maybe will start trying this autumn if I can persuade DH?). I will be gutted, and dreadfully jealous, if for any reason I can't have another, though obviously DS is a blessing except at 8pm which I'm grateful for daily!

Last day at work today before the Easter hols - woo hoo!

scarletfingernail · 28/03/2013 08:24

So pleased that Iz is better Musical. Did you and DH manage to escape it?

How's your Dad Stacks?

Any difference in DS since your last post Little?

Interesting re the moon up Too. They seem to be a popular thing on MN. Tbh the idea makes me feel a bit boaky and it does sound a right faff having to empty it and rinse it out etc. Did you read the thread where someone went swimming with it in and it was full of pool water when she got out?

The tablets I took during my most recent AF were brilliant! It was the lightest AF in years so I'm sticking with them. The downside was that I hadn't realised AF was coming so I didn't start taking them until day 1 so the first 2 days were still bad. If I can start taking them next time a couple of days before then it should be much better. The only downside was awful constipation no good for my poor prolapse but back to normal again a couple of days after the tablets finished.

DS's spots are drying up at last. I only said to DH last week that if DS hadn't had chicken pox by the time he started school in September I was going to look into getting him vaccinated privately. I think Bartlet mentioned her DS has been vaccinated. In terms of future reoccurrences from what I could gather online a dose of the virus should provide more immunity than the vaccine, but obviously with the vaccine you stand a higher chance of never getting it at all in the first place.

There's a number of kids off with it at DS's pre-school and I think one of them has had it before too. DS seems to have had quite a good dose of it so fingers crossed he shouldn't get it again. I have to say though, it's been nowhere near as bad as I thought it might be. He's hardly itched even though he's completely covered in spots and he's been so tired from it he's slept brilliantly. His appetite has been quite poor though and he's been feverish but tbh he's been worse in the past with other random viruses and tonsillitis and chest infections etc. I'm dreading DD getting it which is inevitable I know. I reckon she'll be more whingey about it than DS because she's still so tiny.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 28/03/2013 12:09

In mooncup news, I have had it in since 7am and I'm too scared to try to take it out. M's asleep in her cot, so now would be a good time to try. I don't have very heavy periods - average, perhaps? I use super tampons to begin with and change them every 3-4 hours (except at night), and then go down to regular by about day 4 or 5. I don't need the super-plus-plus ones, though. I did not read the thread about swimming, eww!

Jen, thank you for reminding me to check the oil tank! It was half full a week ago but it's been icy since, so I'd better look. I got your PM about the breast pump and tbh, I think you might be better buying one. DH put it away unwashed and I only realised about a month later, ick! Also, the last time I used it it didn't pump very strongly at all, so I wondered if I'd knackered it a bit.

Scarlet, Brooking hard for DS to get better quickly and for DD not to get the dreaded pox! Yay for the period tablets working!

Stacks, how is your dad?

Musical, I have baby envy too. I keep telling myself that we'll have another one soon enough, but it's not soon enough, I want one now! When AF started this time I might have gone and put the date in the due date calculator on MN...it said my baby would be due on 2 Jan if I conceived this month! Blush and because I would have an ELCS at 38 or 39 weeks it would be a Christmas week baby! I must not ttc this month, we are stony broke!

Right, I'm off to wrestle with the dreaded mooncup before M wakes up. What's the betting she howls when I'm mid-struggle?

DreamingOfAFullNightsSleep · 28/03/2013 12:24

So, today dh tells me their practice nurse can order in the chicken pox vaccine to be given privately. Wtaf?! Why hasn't he told me this before?! I know some are like your ds scarlet, but my friends DD had it badly, was so itchy she gave her 3-4 tepid baths a day to help relieve it and she has some scarring from her scratching it, including on her face. She was so uncomfortable she couldn't sleep. I think how ill they are with it is really variable. I'm very worried about all 3 being ill together while they're so young and we are struggling enough with 3 x stonking colds and fevers atm, so I'm officially on the job of looking into it. It'd be brilliant if we can get it through our GP by paying privately to order the vaccine....

So far, I'm not broody too bloody busy but I am sad to think of no more babies ever, but dh is adamant he is happy with three, has no time whatsoever to himself now and would like more balance in his life. I'd best forget the idea of #4...

Waiting for news of your ds little, and glad yours went to sleep after all pet

Sleep is beyond dire here. At a loss. S back to the puking, 4 out of the last 5 nights = whole tea vomited onto the carpet or into the cot at bedtime. Gutted! Dh is incapable of remembering his ranitidine though so this morning for example when he did breakfast I later discovered he'd not given it.

Stacks · 28/03/2013 13:15

Just a quick post from me. Dad is currently in surgery. It's going to be a few hours before I can call and see how he is. Brooking please! I'm desperately trying not to think about it all too much.

JenFreggle · 28/03/2013 16:12

Brooking for you Stacks. Could I distract you by telling you that the CBD also says yes?

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 28/03/2013 19:02

Oh my God. A BFP? Squee! Congratulations, Jen! That's so exciting!

Stacks · 28/03/2013 20:22

Congratulations Jen, so exciting! Hope DH takes it well.

Thanks for the brooking, my dad is out of surgery and stable on ICU. Thomas has been really well behaved for me today, which has been nice. I hope it continues. He's currently fussing about on the breast, but keeping quiet so should fall asleep soon. He's not pooed in a week though Confused he's never home more than 2 days before. I'm hoping its just a side effect of a growth spurt or something. He's not fussing or straining at all so I'm trying not to worry. At least not about the lack of poo, I confess to bring a bit worried about when it does make an appearance. Hopefully a nappy for DH :)

Stacks · 28/03/2013 20:23

"Not home" should be "not gone". Silly iPhone.

DreamingOfAFullNightsSleep · 28/03/2013 20:26

Oh, glad to hear your dad did ok in the surgery and is stable stacks. Good luck with the poo. DD was a master of the 10 day poo. I'd be twitchy from day 7- no nappy is a match for a 10 day poo

Congratulations Jen it'll work out for the best, I can sense it :)

PetWoman · 28/03/2013 20:30

Jen that's fantastic news! :) How are you feeling!

PetWoman · 28/03/2013 20:36

And Stacks glad your dad is stable. Let us know how he gets on. DS went without pooing for over a week a few times - quite normal, apparently. Hopefully T's next dirty nappy won't be too horrendous!

PetWoman · 28/03/2013 20:44

Meant to say Scarlet glad DS is ok. FX DD miraculously escapes it this time.

DS went straight to sleep this evening at 8pm, but only because we didn't try to put him to bed earlier. Confused He's usually up before 7am, so I think 8pm is too late for his bedtime, especially when I've got marking to do! Still, it's the holidays now so at least I won't have to wake him in the morning if he's tired.

Stacks · 28/03/2013 22:31

I spoke to my dad :) now it's time to sleep.
