Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
PetWoman · 15/12/2012 19:58

Two transfer fails so far. DS has joined us in bed every night for weeks now. We're lucky if he gets to midnight in his own bed. But I get a better night's sleep so it's worth it.

Yay Biscuits on the weight loss!

Wow for the talking, Scream - little A is amazing!

Too glad the dog is home safe. Hope your tree stays upright for the whole festive season!

Glad a tooth is finally through, Musical - hope Iz is happier now.

Scarlet yay for heating but mega boo re the bill.

Pomme MIL sounds blooming annoying. :(

Dream tonight's the night for your two to sleep through better. And we'll brook no argument.

Biscuitsandtinsel · 15/12/2012 20:08

Thanks for all your congrats - i suppose I'm pleased with it but ive got a long way to go! Only 2 st 3.3lb and I'll be normal instead of overweight.... Hmm

Sigh!

Brooking for f to be better soon Hawthers and for those dreamy twins to forget to wake up tonight.

Yay for a superstar plumber scarlet, Smile, not yay for the money Sad

DH put ds2 to bed for the first time without me tonight - took one resettling, but could have been a lot worse I think.

Forgotten everything else....

DreamingOfPeace · 15/12/2012 20:14

My two better had sleep soon, for the sake of my sanity and my marriage...

hawthers you've had such terrible and unusual experiences with both your boys in hospital. That doesn't mean it'll happen again though. DD had never really been ill til she was one. Then we had that terrible patch of constant illness while I was pregnant, now she's mostly ok. My boys have been totally different, constantly ill, s can get up to temps of 39, has done on two different illness occasions. It's just them fighting something off, and there's always Calpol ... It won't stop you worrying though, I worry about ours and I've dh on tap :). you could get him seen by a GP to at least check his chest is clear, ears, throat etc then you know it really is only a matter of cuddles and Calpol! Plus, we are all Brooking No Argument about it, therefore he will be much better by morning.

DreamingOfAWhiteChristmas · 15/12/2012 20:24
TooImmatureMincePies · 15/12/2012 21:32

Why won't she go to sleep? M was asleep at 7, woke for a feed at 8 Hmm and then woke up again at 9. DH tried to resettle her but she woke up the instant she was put down. I ignored her for a couple of minutes - she shut up after 30 seconds of crying, raised my hopes and then started again - and went in to discover that she was wide awake. Feeding didn't help and putting her into the cot just made her howl. I can't do it. I gave up and we're back in the living room and she's wriggling around the floor in her sleeping bag. I've just had enough. Please, someone, tell me it gets better.

jaggythistle · 15/12/2012 21:53

It gets better :) Then they learn to talk --and be cheeky and have tantrums and stuff Hmm

I am such a plum. Still at work due to not realising my last sample wasn't actually running. It takes half an hour so I will be almost half an hour late home. Duh.

Glad you have heat Scarlet, big bill sucks though :(

Biscuits I was feeling quite chuffed at how much less I weigh than pre pg, still overweight by about a stone though Shock Good weight loss by you!

Hope your wee ones are doing some sleeping dream.

R's 3rd ooth is peeping through today, the one beside it almost out too so he didin't like me poking about for a look Blush

Right away to see if this run is done and I can go home.

hohohohawthers · 15/12/2012 22:11

too it will get better sometime very soon ----

Have cracked and called the ooh. F was doing some holding breath and grunty breathing same as he was doing before he got admitted with meningitis. Am sure he'll be five but hope a Dr will come and check him out tonight given our history.

I try so hard not to panic over everything but I've got some serious triggers and then just panic.

TooImmatureMincePies · 15/12/2012 22:23

Oh Hawthers. I hope the doctor comes out and that F is absolutely fine. You have every reason to worry about him.

Jaggy, hope you get home soon! Yay for DS2's new tooth - or teeth.

scarletfingernail · 15/12/2012 22:47

((((Hawthers)))) do let us know what the ooh doc says. You've done the right thing calling them if just to stop worrying yourself sick. I know you're associating the grunty thing with your previous experience and I would be exactly the same but I just wanted to tell you that my DS does the exact same thing when he's trying to shake off a high temperature. It's bloody scary but I've heard it enough times now to know that's what it is. Brooking that it's the same for little F.
My anxiety about my kids health is due to past stuff btw, it's absolutely normal to panic if you have such strong triggers and you've had an awful time with both of your boys in the past. I don't know if you've had any treatment for it, been offered any or even thought about it but feel free to PM me if you want any info about CBT and the type of stuff you talk about if you're interested in finding out.

I've been raging tonight about DS being ill again. FFS he only went back to playgroup this week after having over a week off ill. I didn't want him to go back, I want to keep him safe from germs so we can enjoy Christmas and his birthday but DH more or less told me to get a grip. And what's happened? He's got bloody ill again. He's coughing away in his bed so tired. His temp is 38.5 and he looks awful. I know the doc will just say viral but I've reached the point now where I'm standing my ground and keeping him at home until the new year. I'm fed up with that filthy germy playgroup letting kids go back too soon after illness. We're meant to be going to the pantomime on Tuesday for the first time with DS. I'll be gutted if we can't go. On the plus side I'm don't feel sick with fear Smile

Hope you're home at last Jaggy.

OP posts:
jaggythistle · 15/12/2012 23:22

home safe, but DS2 not doing sleeping. not sure if he's bothered about teeth, but he has yet another cold. :(

scarlet I'm worrying about how many bugs DS1 will pick up when he starts nursery next month, he picks up enough things from playgroup once a week and meeting up with his friends!

ScreamIfYouStillBelieveInSanta · 15/12/2012 23:30

So much to catch up on ladies!!

Firstly - huge well done to Scarlet for not being scared about DS! I think that's an A* for your 'face your fears' homework!! So proud of you welcome to my world where instead of being afraid I somehow manage to blame DH for everything, it's much more fun! Grin

Also well done to Biscuits for the weightloss! I've put on a tonne of weight since losing a whole load pre-naming ceremony, and that's even before the Christmas feasting gets going! Confused So hats off to you for your willpower and hard work! Any tips?

Hawthers any word from the ooh dr yet? I hope they come soon and put your mind at rest. It must be so stressful having to contend with bad memories every time little F is ill. You've absolutely done the right thing. No Brooking that DS2 just has a minor short-lived cold!

Jaggy yay for new teeth being almost out! I hope you were able to finish up work quickly and now you're relaxing at home.

Sending lots of hugs to Too, Dream and Pet! Yoyo-ing babies all night long is just the worst!! Little A hasn't improved at all since I did all that moaning a couple of weeks ago. I'm just trying not to drive you all mad with constant ranting. She's still up all night long though, sometimes hourly, at most every 2 hours, and the later (earlier?) it gets the harder it is to get her to stay in the cot. Apparently sleeping through is something she only does for Nana or Daddy Hmm

Woohoo for Iz's teeth! So exciting! I hope both Iz and Musical can get a bit more sleep now!

Little A has shown no inclination to repeat her first word anytime soon. Now that she's back with me and all she has to do is make a slightly unhappy face to grab my attention, she clearly doesn't feel the need to say Mama again! It was so out of the blue last time, completely unprompted, that I have no idea how to get her to do it again! I think she'll just forget about it and won't say it again for weeks :( It's fine of course - 2 days ago I had absolutely no thought of her saying anything at all for months. Plus so many friends have warned me that Mama is never the first word. Now that I've actually heard her say it though, I'm dying for her to say it again! I know what to put in my letter to Santa Xmas Grin

jaggythistle · 15/12/2012 23:43

still no sleeping and cold has caused him to spew all over his sleeping bag. then sneeze sick in DH's face.

hohohohawthers · 16/12/2012 00:29

Well dine scarlet that is amazing progress. Went to ooh who say probably viral but pleased we went as our minds are put at rest. Right Bedfordshire before the night shifts kicks off

jaggythistle · 16/12/2012 04:57

glad OOH were nice and F ok. :) hawthers. hope he's better soon.

I'm having a night where i keep falling asleep sitting up again. d'oh.

away to try and put snottery snoring baby to bed...

Biscuitsandtinsel · 16/12/2012 06:53

Oh dear all these poorly babies Sad

Hawthers glad your mind was put at rest - in your shoes I would have gone to the ooh doc too and hopefully you're feeling a bit less panicky? Hope f can shake this off sooner rather than later. It sounds as though your boys are tough little cookies they've only clocked up one temperature between them so hope he can knock this on the head Thanks

Scarlet - so sorry to hear poor DS is poorly again! Hope he's on the mend too. But I'm so proud of you for not feeling scared of it all - that is amazing! I hope you're writing it all down for your CBT homework?

Poor jaggy house too with another poorly little person Sad - cleaning up sick and only getting to nap sitting up is no good Sad Have you got to work today or could DH let you have a ok bit of a lie in?

Scream I don't know what to suggest with little a - it must be so frustrating knowing that she can do better sleeping. I can never understand how they seem to know who it is that is there once they're asleep iyswim. You know, I could understand them taking longer to go to sleep for different people but how the heck do they remember to wake up once they're asleep but only when you're there and not for dh or your mum? Babies are funny things Confused. I don't know what to suggest to be honest. Maybe there will be some sort of improvement once you move home after Christmas? If she sleeps through for DH and not for you perhaps it will confuddle her and she'll forget to wake up, or maybe double her sleeping spells as a compromise?

On that topic though I really hope it goes well when you go back home. Are you looking forward to it or a bit anxious? Hopefully things have been showing a bit of improvement between you and DH? The original plan was to move back after Christmas though wasn't it? Have you discussed the sleeping issue and how you might deal with it once you're back under the same roof? If she does wake frequently it's going to be quite a strain on you both isn't it Sad. I think I'd be tempted to have a date by which if she isn't sleeping better you might maybe look at Hawthers' sleep consultant or similar? Of course I'm hoping that she'll magically sleep through again like she does for DH but just in case......

pet lovely to see you m'dear - it's been a while Smile. Sorry that you have a yo-yo-ing baby too - hope he went to bed and stayed there to give you a nice bit of rest. I'm forgetting what everyone said - was he poorly too? Or teething?

Too glad someone found your dog - what nice people to walk him and bring him back! Hope M slept better too - there really MUST be something in the air with all this bad sleeping no?

Ds1 seems a bit under the weather here too - he had a temp when we went to bed but it seems to have gone this morning. But he was so tired yesterday - fell asleep after swimming and then stayed asleep at the in-laws when we arrived (he NEVER does that - grandpa is far too exciting Smile) and then fell asleep on the way home again and still asked to go to bed straight after his tea Sad.

And ds2 seems a bit grumpy and out of sorts too. Nothing too specific and no temperature in his case but has been a bit grotty. I suppose his could be teeth? Can't see any sign of any new ones though - we seem to have been stuck with these 6 for ages!

Well I am brooking no argument that today WILL be a better day all round! Dc will be better and as a result will sleep better. Fact.

Right I'd better get my arse out of this bed - DH is up working and I've got to get the mini munchkins ready so that we can go shopping - bleurgh! It will be fine. It will be fine. No one else will be there . And I can have an eggnog latte Grin

Biscuitsandtinsel · 16/12/2012 07:05

Oh feck. Just accidentally cancelled a post I was typing.

Argh

I just came back to say to Scream I hope A says Mama for you again soon. It deffo counts as a word I think as she said it understandably and in context, and TWICE. True enough Mama isn't usually the first word but usually schmoosually! Little A is a clever girl and gets that Mummy is best!

I think ds1's first word was 'Bubba' which was the name of the whale on the floats at his swimming lesson. Well that was the dirst time i think i heard him say a dostinguishable word in context. And I'm embarrassed to say I can't even remember how old he was! We did those swimming lessons from 7 months until 2.9 years so done time in that window...... BlushGrin. I'm pretty sure it was WELL over a year old though - if not over 15 months. Really can't remember though Blush

jaggythistle · 16/12/2012 07:36

a bit Envy of your awesome post there biscuits, I'd have totally fallen asleep after a couple of paragraphs. Grin Or forgotten what i was saying!

no work today, yesterday's was an extra shift. DS2 was sleeping really well when i eventually put him to bed, but DS1 woke up at 6.40ish and was in the huff that it wasn't time to get up. DS2 then woke up 5 minutes later so he's back with me. it took him a wee minute of sucking really hard to unblock his wee nose to feed.

the sleeping sitting up was just because i was sooo sleepy i kept falling asleep instead of transferring him to the cot.

DS1 is now quietly grumping over the monitor.

what's a long lie again? Hmm

jaggythistle · 16/12/2012 07:41

pommedechocolat · 16/12/2012 08:28

Aw, jaggy brooking for more sleep for you soon. You're a star with all your work and no sleep.

I counted dd1's 'first' word as not mama and dada but the first thing she used in context (bubble strangely enough!). But I would have counted mamma had it been used in context. Little A sounds amazing scream :)

PetWoman · 16/12/2012 09:16

I second the No Brooking for poorly and sleepless DC to be all better by Christmas. Please, Father Christmas? We have all been very good girls.

Not sure why DS now sleeps so badly. He isn't teething particularly, I don't think (though he's 8.5 months and still no teeth). I guess it's just that he'd rather be having cuddles than be by himself in his cot Confused .

Jaggy good to hear from you. :) yay for more teeth in time for Christmas!

Dream how was your night? Nice name! Last year's names are sooo this year, don't you know? Grin

Hawthers glad you saw the doctor and are feeling reassured.

Too I've occasionally found that walking round his darkened room and looking out of the window with DS has got him sleepy enough to feed to sleep if he's been too awake to feed to sleep. I expect you've tried that, though. Confused. I hope it gets better SOON for all our sakes!

Scream so sorry to hear that A is still refusing to sleep for you. It sounds like a sign of extreme intelligence to me that she knows you're around and fights all night for you to cuddle her. But I hope once you're back home with DH, his magic touch ensures that she sleeps through reliably.

Biscuits how is DS1 today? I'm sure those extra pounds will just drop off you now we're in the season of frugality and - oh, hang on, ummm - well, I'd forget about any dieting till after Christmas if I were you! Grin

Scarlet how is DS? Defo keep him home now till the new year. Poor little chap. But well done you for your sensible response. Glad the CBT is proving effective. :)

Decorating our tree today - yay! Xmas Smile

ScreamIfYouStillBelieveInSanta · 16/12/2012 10:50

Have to run, I'm on my way out the door, but I just had to tell someone - Little A just did her first sign!!!!!! So excited!! I was feeding her breakfast, and we ended with some banana pieces. When the pieces ran out I signed "all gone" to her and she responded with the sign for "more"! Several times! Witnessed by my usually skeptical Mum and sis!!! So excited!!!

Btw Grin at Jaggy's DS2 sneezing sick on your DH. Grim! Grin On a serious note though, I do hope all the poorly LOs feel better asap!

jaggythistle · 16/12/2012 11:01

Aw! well done wee A. :)

R is saying mum mum ma ma all the time, but it's just his favourite sound just now, especially when he's annoyed.

i have to say i did laugh at DH, I've had sick sneezes a few times before. ew Grin

It's mostly milky sick really so not too bad. he's still a bit meh about food. he's more enthusiastic if he can get his hands on it, but only eats quite small amounts.

musicalmrs · 16/12/2012 12:27

Awww, how clever is little A Scream! You must be so proud Grin. I've been meaning to integrate some baby signing - but have always been a bit unsure about it - maybe I'll have to start after your lovely story :)

I wrote a reaaaallly long post last night and obviously didn't press post before turning off my machine, grr.

Biscuits, congratulations on the weight loss! :)

Hawthers, glad the OOH doctor put your mind at ease.

Brooking for all the non-sleeping brookers, as per usual. Dream, hope you had a better night with the boys in separate rooms for a second night?

A better night here. Iz got up three times before we'd gone to bed... but only once once I'd gone to bed! Hurrah! I realise this is probably a one off, but I appreciated the extra sleep last night. Was quite amazed when I realised it was 8am and she'd only just woken up, and was playing in her cot rather than crying.

She's also discovered if she twiddles the tree baubles enough they come off of the tree. Plus, if she uses presents to climb up, she has realised she can reach more baubles!

Biscuitsandtinsel · 16/12/2012 13:06

Ah Musical how clever of Iz - such problem solving skills! And clever clever A Scream! Wow!

At least these babies are using their night time wakings to learn lots of clever things.

jaggythistle · 16/12/2012 13:41

you're right biscuits you know. baby DS2 is working sooo hard on trying to crawl right now.

he gets up on his hands and knees fine, but gets stuck and either dives forward or goes backwards. between that and rolling, he's getting a lot more mobile.

he's not a happy guy today as his nose is streaming and he really hates getting it wiped!
