I loved kate's thread name but thought we needed a birthday theme for this one. We'll soon have 6 weeks of birthdays to celebrate!

DSM you caught me off guard and I don't know what to say but I'll try. Firstly does she think its dairy or just lactose, Eva's is just lactose intolerance which (i think!) is much easier to manage. What's she like when she has it? Eva screams clearly in a lot of pain, it was always very obvious, so I'm assuming Sky isn't as intolerant. I'd say most important thing firstly is to work out which it is. You can buy lactofree cheese, cheese spread, yoghurts, spreadable butter and milk, so if advise maybe just cut out the lactose first and see how she responds. What about formula? Eva has SMA LF, we were told first to buy a tin (boots sell it) then if it worked we could get it on prescription. Can't advise much if its a dairy intolerance tbh, only I guess soya based products?! I have read that it can improve as they get older, I haven't tried with Eva since she was 8 months, we decided not to try again until she was over a year, I hated seeing her in pain and knowing I'd caused it :(.

missree I'm always amazed by the age ranges on this thread, Freya is 10 months and Eva will be 1 in 8 days! I think inviting people back is a lovely idea, though that's an extremely old list and I think we'd lost a lot of those people before we'd even had our DCs. I think a lot of those birth dates were from a different thread, might have been babies born in advent?! Perhaps just invite those back who have been on here since we've had the DCs?

Figgygal · 13/11/2012 18:56

I've been on since 16th April last year the day after I found out I was pg first person I remember was mopsy .....r u lurking mopsy?

MrsDeterminedandSpecialMum · 13/11/2012 18:58

Seven Thanks. She is def in more pain and badly constipated the more milk & dairy she has. Dr has kindly prescribed SMA LF for her and have to change to soya products. She has been on comfier milks before. Just trialling going milk & dairy free to see if it is that. If so my HV who is lovely will refer her to dietician.

MissChristmastRee · 13/11/2012 19:23

I had a look through our old threads Seven and that was the most recent list I could find! I think I'll just send to everyone and if some come back to say hi then great Smile

Is anyone else missing from that list other than Cheung?

mopsytop · 13/11/2012 20:18

figgy, yes originally I started a thread that we were on just after we found out we were pregnant, then we were both on another similar thread and after a bit the two threads just merged into this one. We have been on mumsnet for 20 months now! I've still got infected sinuses - been away at eeekend for husband's grandmother's 90th and then went to see my supervisor and have been feeling quite rotten throughout but then today it suddenly got majorly bad again, thought I was going to pass out on the train journey back. So will definitely be going to see my GP tomorrow. It's been 12 days now so I think I need an antibiotic to kick this. I really want to hand in before Christmas so j need to be well. Half way through final chapter, one chapter to rewrite, other chapters to cut down (massively) and conclusion to write. Nearly there!

Right need to sleep. Will try respond tomorrow to everyone!

mopsytop · 13/11/2012 20:19

P.s. I agree, this thread has been invaluable!

NorthernChinchilla · 13/11/2012 20:59

Hell yes! I always felt, especially as I had no local support network (two friends and no family), that this thread/MN in general was a life saver for me. I tend to research things to the nth degree, so being able to dip into all this knowledge and ask questions has been amazing. But making a load of on-line friends to waffle baby stuff at, commiserate about broken nights, vomit, DP/Hs has been just fantastic Smile
It was really nice as well the way the two Dec threads joined up post babies.

And wow DSM, did you have our only on-time baby?! (Actually, I see iggly did, but is no longer on-thread) But go stalk MissXmasRee, go stalk! Would be lovely to know how people are getting on- I've definitely seen a few of the old gang on MN in general.

Glad you're both getting to the end of the work mopsy and that you're getting off to the Doc's at last!

Week is ever more stressful aethel, but thanks for the kind thoughts! Evening meeting tonight, a day away from the office (on work) Friday, a formal work do on Saturday and an evening meeting on Monday. I'll forget what my family look like Sad. Btw, how's it going with all the house stuff, bar the never-ending house-sprucing pre-visit that you're tied down to? Are you managing OK or getting part way down your tether, iyswim?

MrsDeterminedandSpecialMum · 13/11/2012 22:12

Northern Looking at the list seems I am the only one with a baby born when expected too Grin

Aethelfleda · 13/11/2012 22:54

Yep, I love this thread too (though a bit disturbing that I think I've posted almost every day on here since DS was born- the wonder of too many night feeds and a smartphone!!)

I initially joined as I wanted some camradarie when my pregnancy was too early on to want to tell many people in real life, and stayed on as with DS being my number three, I found it nicer than trying to spend time with a real life antenatal group, which I felt life was too busy for (mostly cos I lost touch with pretty much all of DD2's antenatal pals).

Thanks northern: I oscillate between patient zen (what will be will be, in the hands of the Almighty, if it's meant to happen then it will work out, etc) and impatient (aaargh I am totally sick of this and we haven't even got to the nightmare of solicitors/surveys/chains yet! ). I think tonight I shall choose zen, it's calmer and doesn't spill my cuppa tea.

Muffinpig · 13/11/2012 23:10

Cheung I meant to post yesterday to say that your LO sounds exactly like mine! She likes to play with stuff by herself and if I try and play with her she either just crawls off to do her own thing or she climbs over me and gives me sucker kisses and pulls my hair! I feel bad that I don't "do" enough with her but other than singing, especially action songs, she seems to want to play on her own. She also does the dramatic look-at-me noise so that people will pay her attention then she goes all coy and smiley.

I think she is figuring out how to shake her head but she does do it at odd times, and sometimes to music so it looks like she's headbanging! They are funny things aren't they?

dsm when I looked into dairy intolerance in an effort to explain why DD was waking every hour I was told that if it is a true dairy intolerance and not just lactose intolerance like eva has, then they are also likely to be soya intolerant as apparentrly the protein make-up is very similar. So I would cut out all dairy products, including butter and most margarines, and soya too. Some bread can have soya in so be careful of that.

I also think this thread is great, so weird to think so many of us have been posting since we were very early pregnant, and we've gone through so much together! I didn't say much about it at the time but I had a very hard time throughout my pregnancy and was on bed rest for 2 months and it was a constant source of comfort and, of course, advice!

OiMissus · 13/11/2012 23:20

Evening all!
missree go stalk! It'd be nice to hear from the others.
norhhern sympathy to you for the tough time at work. I hope it settles down for you soon.
mopsy go get it finished! Go girl! Hope the abs kick the ass of your sinuses (iyswim!).
BOi does not dance yet. But he loves his books -especially those with snappy crocodiles. We bought 5 new books at weekend to feed his curiosity. :) He is a fab kisser, (even makes the kissy mwah noise, just not at the same time!) and no longer does the leech-slurp-suck, and - from this weekend - he's started giving proper cuddles, and cuddles and kisses his teddies. Grin he waves and says Hiya, and teddy, and makes a great ussh sound for fish.
This thread has been amazing. Through the pregnancy I had your support, when BOi arrived I had your advice, and now I have humour, coffee and friends, albeit virtually! Thanks ladies!
On my to do list I have:
Insure the house (still!! Blush)
Dentist (still Blush)
Sort clothes (again)
And much more.
And xiao, I had practically given up on moisturiser at all since BOi arrived. But I treated myself at weekend and I WILL start taking more care and being more ladylike again. Pass the razor! Blush

MrsDeterminedandSpecialMum · 14/11/2012 06:35

The plan is to put her on LF milk & switch to soya products.

If that doesn't help then a change again and she will go on completely milk & dairy free products. I have the support of my GP, HV, nursery & MN so hopefully the change will help. It's just overwhelming what I have to change and look at so I don't get it wrong and don't hurt her tummy & digestion more.

My to do list:
Get rid of this poxy cold.
My head feels like it's on fire yet my body Is cold SadAngry

SevenElvesAndAReindeer · 14/11/2012 07:05

Good luck DSM. I remember when we found out what was bothering Eva being completely overwhelmed, I knew nothing! We haven't seen a dietician or anyone, even my usually great HV has been useless other than sorting out her prescription formula. I don't know at this stage whether its worth seeing anyone, we're muddling through ok. The only thing that still really bothers me is when I think about the things she can't have, ice cream and stupidly the most recent one to upset me when everyone was talking about advent calendars. I'll let you in on the secret though that hobnobs are made with vegetable oil not butter :o.

I completely agree how invaluable this thread has been, I don't have many 'real' friends, tbh I'm just not a very sociable person. I haven't felt like I've missed out by not having loads of mum friends as I have you lot who have been through it all with me. I love how I'm not judged on here, and no matter how much I whinge (like about the flat, sorry Blush) no one has ever told me to stop moaning.

Anyway, flat should complete today, scan tomorrow, exciting times!

BJR · 14/11/2012 07:18

Quick post and run but DSM i've found the allergies board on here really useful they have one thread where people have been posting different food items they had found which were suprisingly allergy suitable which is very good. We are currently dairy and soya free here so its been useful.

I think someone mentioned on there that Asda do a diary, soya, gluten etc free advent calander Seven!

MrsDeterminedandSpecialMum · 14/11/2012 07:25

This thread is brilliant for friendship, laughs, ranting and loads of advice.

Seven Thanks. I need to change everything I give her. So great tip on the hob nobs Grin

BJR thanks. Also thanks for the advent calendar tip Smile

MissChristmastRee · 14/11/2012 13:20

I'm probably being a total dumbarse but how do you send a PM to multiples? Do I just have to put names in and send one at a time????

BeeMyBaby · 14/11/2012 13:31

Agreed that the thread has been great, but not so much for my wallet! The amount of products that I never knew about when I had DD1 but just HAD to buy for DD2 when they were mentioned here...(cuddledry towels, funky giraffe bibs, neurofen rather than calpol! etc)

DD2 did her first unaided steps finally, and not much else to add for development (DN2 is two weeks younger and can blow kisses already!), but DD2 did say 'tetoosh' (peekaboo in Berber) last night so that was supercute and made my night alongside the walking.

MrsDeterminedandSpecialMum · 14/11/2012 14:08

Seven What formula milk to you give Eva?

MrsDeterminedandSpecialMum · 14/11/2012 14:10

Also just spoke to HV again to clarify a few things and Sky needs to be completely dairy-free & needs formula milk that excludes the lactose & milk proteins. so just waiting for GP to call me back so she can change it and add some dairy free bread too.

OiMissus · 14/11/2012 19:51

DH is out tonight straight from work. and of course tonight is the night that the fuse goes on the lights downstairs...
I had to wait til BOi fell asleep to hunt around for a torch, then had to go thru the big scary Lucy Tilly room, and thru the shadowy dark garage, to find the scary fuse cupboard with the scary monsters to sort it out.
I'll put BOi to bed now and get me a fried egg on toast. Oh the culinary delights if sole dining! Wink

Aethelfleda · 14/11/2012 20:22

We bailed from the annoyingly timed 6pm viewing (oh but they HAVE to come after work...) and went to pizza express. They have a "responsible diet" pizza that's got a central hole filled with salad. It was yummy and obviously the calories saved were meant for a dessert....

DS is finally getting less clingy, bless him. It's the first time he's really been ill (I know, very lucky!) and as usual brings home how delicate the balance is between family, work and childcare. Better hope he's a hardy perrenial like the DDs!!

NorthernChinchilla · 14/11/2012 20:52

That is so true about the balance aethel. We cruise through fine when everyone's OK (though I'm going to enjoy a 9pm bedtime tonight as I'm so tired, might just POAS to make sure!) but illness, and the broken nights that go with it... Throws everything out, and we have no-one that can help out. Thankfully DP is able (and happy) to be the main 'I've got to stay at home with the sick child' one, but even still...

Hope you continue zen too Smile!

MCR (you're being shortened for the festive period!) I have no idea either Blush. I know I just slapped everyone's names in individually; have a feeling I just copied the message, and pasted it into the numerous mails that I sent out.
And that reminds me- I couldn't access LMF's photos, and now I've just tried yours and it won't let me either- says you haven't made any public, which I know is nonsense as there are loads of Freya. Has something gone a bit weird with the profiles/pics, has anyone else found this?

Hey muffin, that sounds crap about the pregnancy, hadn't realised. Is it something that could re-occur if you have another?

Got another sucker-fish-kiss from DS tonight, a huge one. The best thing is DP is sooooooo envious as he's not had any yet childish I know Grin

Good luck for tomorrow seven, let us know how it goes, digits twisted as LMF would say...
