I loved kate's thread name but thought we needed a birthday theme for this one. We'll soon have 6 weeks of birthdays to celebrate!

(I wrote "ha ha" because I actually laughed out loud in the station, but can not bring myself to use "lol". I'm such a gimp.)

MrsDeterminedandSpecialMum · 20/11/2012 09:19

LMF Grin at sleep pattern on script hahahaha.

Oi have a good trip to France. Hope BOi is feeling better today.

I have Darcie home from school today feeling under the weather which isn't like her, she's currently asleep in my bed Sad

Xiaoxiong · 20/11/2012 10:26

Sorry babes are poorly and non-sleeping - sending health vibes to all including darcie, Boi, octoboy and hope boo gets the support he needs. Oi how long will you be in France? Bring back some gorgeous cheese.

Christmas traditions - stockings discovered on foot of bed in the morning. Massive long extended brunch with smoked salmon, cream cheese, bagels and neverending pots of coffee - each member of the family opens a present one by one and we all ooh and ahh while listening to Carols from Kings (ancient tape recording) the Jackson 5 Christmas album! Then we sing carols and random songs and go out for Chinese food in the evening.

This past weekend was an exeat so we dropped DS off with my mother on Sunday afternoon, and then DH and I went to see the Master at the cinema, had burgers at 10pm at Byron and then SLEPT IN followed by leisurely breakfast over the papers at the Botanist in Sloane Square. It was amazing - that long, slow waking up you do when you have no alarm set, no DS wailing...absolutely brilliant. I was a little nervous leaving DS with my mother overnight but it was completely fine!

I also bought some wool and needles and last night watched a bunch of youtube videos and sort of taught myself to knit a little bit. I'm still not quite sure what to do at the end of a row though, I pretty sure I'm doing it wrong. My aim is to make DS a scarf before the end of the winter. We'll see...

Aethelfleda · 20/11/2012 12:28

Hey, another novice knitter! waves

i recommend "knitting tips by Judy". Judy has a lovely leisurely drawl and her explainations are clear and strangely soporific! Just Youtube "Judy" and whatever knitting bit you need info on.

LittleMissFlustered · 20/11/2012 13:32

I'm supposed to be knitting a pudding hat!

MrsDeterminedandSpecialMum · 20/11/2012 13:49

I'd love to have the timepatience to knit. Used to knit as a kid forgotten how to now tho! Should learn really.

Knew Darcie should of gone to school really Angry not poorly at all. Tbh not like her to feign illness so what with her having a migraine last night genuinely thought she was poorly. Happily playing in the den under the stairs with Sky. Have made mince pies whilst they've been playing.

BeeMyBaby · 20/11/2012 13:56

Lmf its great to hear that doctors are actually willing to prescribe something to octoboy, though doubtless not very fun to force down him in practise.

oi congratulations on the 2nd anniversary, your pictures on facebook were lovely

As I've co slept with DD2 since she was born (I blame everyone but me! - DD1 poking her awake during daytime naps in the cot & DH leaving childcare 100% to me for both children whilst I was on mat leave even though he wasn't working), and so DD2 has an extreme aversion to her cot and if I try to put her in it she screams like I just chopped off her finger or something equally horrendous, I've tried CCing as she's almost a year and she will quieten down after about 10 mins now, but I'd really like her not to be terrified of the cot in the first place - any ideas? I've also tried the shhhh pat shh method but its fairly innefective with that screaming.

Muffinpig · 20/11/2012 14:31

Hi everyone, sorry I dropped off there for a bit. Seem to have massive to-do lists every day at the moment and doing it all between naps, meals, playgroups, appointments, seeing friends, housework, etc etc it is hard to get anything done properly!

northern DS used to get ear infections all the time and perforated his ear drum 3/4 times too. Thankfully he hasn't had any now for over a year. Was it you asking about my difficult pregnancies? Can't remember. Anyway, yes any future pregnancies likely to be very complicated and for that and other reasons we don't want any more DC!

Sorry for all the ill babies, hope they all recover soon.

oi hope you have fun in France and enjoy lots of bread and cheese!

Argh forgotten all the other personals I wanted to say. I always post on my phone and its hard to remember!

Is anyone else still bfeeding? I am still on 3 a day but will soon cut down to 2 as dd has at last accepted milk out of a sippy cup. She is a very independent spirit and won't take it if I give it to her but if I leave it around while she's playing she will drink it herself. Anyway, what I wanted to ask is if anyone else is still bfeeding have you had a period yet? My last one was march 2011! I've been getting period pain for about 2 weeks now but nothing happening. Anything to worry about?

bee as a first step will she play in there with toys or will she scream even then? Or fill with playpit balls?! Once you can leave her there for 5 mins by herself she might not object to being put in to sleep? Don't know if it would work though.

Oh congrats lmf on getting a result from the mediquack!

Figgygal · 20/11/2012 15:02

I used to knit wouldnt have a clue where to start now which is a shame it feels like a lost art. My mum has recommenced knitting in her blissful retirement so will leave it to her to make the boy's xmas jumper talking of which I had to do a mad dash to asda at lunchtime for some bday cards and bought him a xmas jumper with a penguin on it and a cute shirt and waistcoat as he has a 1st bday party for one of the antenatal babies on Saturday. Cant believe 1 is so close now - feel quite distressed about it all.

Does anyone know the etiquette with childminders children's bdays? It is my CM's little girls bday today DS sees her 3 days a week i have bought her a card and am going to get DS to mash his hands all over it later with paint on them that's not weird is it? We have invited her 3 kids to his bday party on 15th Dec too and the other kids he goes to CM with again weird/not weird? Do we need to buy xmas gifts for her kids? Would a kick ass selection box do? Oooh its such a minefield!!

BeeMyBaby · 20/11/2012 17:38

muffin she won't play in it either, we used a travel cot as a playpen for a while when she was about 7 months and its all just fuel to the fire of her burning cot hatred.
Also re: bfing, still feeding in the evenings and during the night and not had a period since my random one when she was 6 weeks old, meaning Ive only had 4 since may 2009. I've had some pains too but that was over a month ago and its still a no show.

NorthernChinchilla · 20/11/2012 20:01

I've literally just these past days stopped muffin. I'd cut it down to one a day in the evening in the past week, and then a combo of me being out at meetings and DS refusing meant I just stopped the evening one too. It was good as it meant it wasn't too final iyswim? Tbh, I want to be bought nice underwear for Xmas, so need to be sure I'm my final shape (for a while).
It's been great though, and nearly a year Smile

Would it work if you put DD1 in the cot with toys, and then had DD2 join her Bee? So she could copy her big sister and feel secure?

All sounds lovely Xiao, Xmas and your lie in, not Envy at all over that, noooooo Smile

We have a few, but by we I mean me and Mum. The decs I made as a child go on the tree, Bucks Fizz (or Fucks Bizz as it's called for that morning) first thing, listen to a tape of Xmas songs called 'Naff Xmas' my Aunty Jane made. Then a brunch, and make up the dinner over the afternoon. Call the various rellies, and perhaps push my Mum out and pop in a pub. Dinner and of recent years Dr Who!
This year we'll have DS in the morning, and then DP will have him at his parents in the afternoon.

I am really, really excited about Xmas this year seeing as we sort of missed out last year. Feel really sorry for DP as he really doesn't like it, too much family crap Sad

Aethelfleda · 20/11/2012 20:43

we has an offer... The "first offer" they made is 15k below what we want. The est agent said "ooh I dunno how much they'll go up" so I resisted the urge to say something impolite about how maybe that was his job... Have politely said thanks but can you offer better please? Have told EA what we "need" purely to try to get as close to that as possible. It's excruciating, this millions of steps and no certainty thing.
Oh well, if this doesn't raise my blood pressure nothing will!!

Pizza and nibbles for tea tonight, with some Misfits and possibly Merlin. Brain-lite telly, gotta love it....

MissChristmastRee · 20/11/2012 21:07

hopefully they're just trying their luck and will up the offer sufficiently!

When will the tiredness end? Zzzzzzzzz

Thankfully have a day off tomorrow but not for fun - DP has hospital for results of the bone marrow test thingies. Stress.

Aethelfleda · 20/11/2012 21:09

((((hug))))) for misree. good luck for tomorrow, dude.

NorthernChinchilla · 20/11/2012 21:20

Hope you manage to get some sleep tonight, and that the news is good tomorrow- fingers crossed MissRee.

LittleMissFlustered · 20/11/2012 21:51

for everyone.

Breastfeeding, yes. Lots:( At least three times in the day and pretty much all night:(

SevenElvesAndAReindeer · 20/11/2012 22:16

Hope it's good news tomorrow missree.

aethel hope they increase the offer!

air don't stress over the birthday cake, Hope really isn't old enough to care how fancy her cake is yet. Sorry Air is playing up, remember its just a phase. DS was 4 in June and he's honestly like Jekyll and Hyde at the moment. Some days he just won't listen, has no manners and won't do anything he's told. A couple of weeks ago he even kicked Eva in the face :(. But other days he's lovely and gives her cuddles, goes straight to her if she falls over and asks if he can help me, it's these days that keep me going.

DSM how are you doing with Sky's new diet, have you seen much improvement? By the way party rings don't contain dairy!

We open a present each on Christmas Eve, the DCs usually have a book which they'll have for their bedtime story. On Christmas morning we have mince pies for breakfast, and opening presents takes most of the day.

Well tomorrow is Eva's birthday!! Cake made and presents wrapped. We were going to the zoo but the weather forecast is pants! Instead we're just going to soft play then having a small family birthday tea with cake.

Hope all poorly babies get well soon!

OiMissus · 20/11/2012 22:28

Bonsoir les filles!
No cheese has shown itself yet, but it will, but I won't be able to bring it back without devouring it! (Btw Tescos £10 meal deal now had cheese selection yum scrumptious! Not French, of course!)
Xmas: wake up, do prezzies, rush around and visit DH's rellies in morning, get to mum's at 1 for fabulous Christmas turkey n trimmings lunch, crackers etc., watch queenie, go to family party to see all mum's side of the family for gift exchange, buffet, silly quizzes and prizes and lots of wine. Go home around 9 , stuffed and squiffy, collapse on sofa with more wine. Grin
Happy happy days! Bring on the sprouts!
Good luck for tomorrow missree.
And hope they come back with aired sensible offer aethel. Hope they're serious but were just testing.
Goodnight!

OiMissus · 20/11/2012 22:30

Aired... Or "a more"...

Muffinpig · 20/11/2012 23:38

Will be thinking of you tomorrow missree

Very nearly Happy Birthday to Eva!

Our Christmas is all piling into one bed for stockings, croissants for breakfast, start slowly opening presents (we do it one at a time and it takes ages), have smoked salmon, champagne and nibbles at 11ish, play with presents or continue opening, lunch around 1, then by the time we've finished and cleared up its fairly late afternoon and we might go for a walk or play with a toy in the garden, turkey sandwiches if anyone is hungry, watch rubbish on tv, bed. Long walk on boxing day.

I should be asleep! Went out with some girlfriends tonight which was lovely but all I really wanted to do was come home, chat to DH and go to bed. I'm not used to going out! Missed the DCs even though they were asleep, how sad am I?!

Xiaoxiong · 21/11/2012 03:55

missree will be thinking of you tomorrow. Hope it's good news.

aethel yay for an offer - now some cosmic ordering and I know the price will go up.

Just woke up bc DS was moaning in his cot - I went in in the dark and fed him but he didn't seem interested so tried to put him down again - into a pool of proper grown up sick . Poor little mite! He seems ok now and is asleep. But now the question - can I leave him with the nanny tomorrow, as it's a massive 2 days at work coming up. I'm going to check him in another 2 hours - if he has vomited again I will stay home.

BeeMyBaby · 21/11/2012 06:17

Happy 1st Birthday Eva!

Figgygal · 21/11/2012 07:16

Happy birthday Eva!!

Been up since 5 due to ds coughing and nappy malfunction, wasn't surprised we had another full on melt down at bed last night trying to get nappy on so had to do it with him stood up hanging off curtains. This nappy tantrum business is very frustrating and upsetting and fundamentally unnecessary so Sad and Angry in equal measure!!

Crap day at work planned far too busy and it's been a year since I went off on mat leave this week so thinking back wistfully.......

MrsDeterminedandSpecialMum · 21/11/2012 07:17

Happy Birthday Eva Smile

Seven Sky has seemed cheerier but too soon to tell. Has been able to go to loo easier tho. So not sure!

We have 2 top teeth Grin

MissChristmastRee · 21/11/2012 08:49

Happy Birthday Eva Grin
