I hope they are as good as the last 6!

some more five mins ideas stella will play with her dad's accoustic guitar happily sitting up for a while. plus the reel of a wrapping paper fixing thingy she rolled that around for a while today.

what's the name of that fisher price toy -any ideas?

is anyone else's baby scared of the hoover?

went for a walk to meet a mate in the city today and it was lovely to see how a babe can bring a smile to all those stressed out stockbroker types faces. xx

mawbroon · 14/06/2006 20:57

Not scared of the hoover MM, but Johnny hates the food processor and the electric slicing machine.

I've no idea about the fisherprice toy. It will be at least ten years old as the baby who it originally belonged to is almost 11!

Johnny has been sucking on the bedclothes since we have done controlled crying. I am assuming that this soothes him back to sleep. Last night, I had a blanket on him as it was a bit cooler but I put a muslin in beside him to suck on. Is this a good idea? I don't know if he is going to get attached to it and will have to take it everywhere. He was sucking on the end of it this afternoon and it reminded me of my younger sister who I remember used to chew on a cloth in exactly the same way.

hello all,
computer broke for a day, i think i was getting withdrawal symptoms.

Hana loves my mobile phone and the telephone, she talks to it and eats it. when we have it on speaker phone she goes mad. also likes clothes hangers and paper. i always said that i would not get her toys with batteries in them, but have now given in as she likes them so much.

mawbroon, i have been doing the same with getting her footprints for father day cards. got her in the highchair, though the first one i did it ended up with 6 toes!

mozarellamamma, don't envy you with your musical neighbours, that was one of the reasons we moved out of se ldn. where are you thinking of moving to?

Hana used to cry when i used the hoover, even if she was with someone in another room, but she seems to be over that now. she does look concerned though when the lawn mower or blender is on.

Elf, hope your gran is feeling better

Yokefleet, make me jealous - have you been down to the beach again today? Do you like Joe's icecream?

nervousmum · 15/06/2006 13:46

Joey cries at the sound of the strimmer and lawn mower too! (good job DP doesn't use them very often then - he prefers the 'natural' ie lazy lookGrin)

mawbroon · 15/06/2006 15:05

teackes - LOL at the footprints in the highchair. That is so obvious! Why didn't I think of that?

It's a lovely day here and I am in nesting mode. If I didn't know better, I would say that I was about to give birth given the amount of cleaning that I've been doing. I thought that I should have something to show for the 4 hours napping that Johnny does every day!

Yokefleet · 15/06/2006 15:52

TEACAKES just back from the beach yes! took Thomas for a walk around the marina, along the pier by the side of the swansea-cork ferry and across the beach (even paddled in the sea!) sorry! stunning weather here but as I now weigh 2 stones more than when Thomas was born I haven't yet tried the delights of Joes icecream but I know everyone raves about it!
mb glad to hear that the cc is still going well, when did you start it? We started 2 weeks ago on Monday and apart from the 1st night and 1 other night it has worked brilliantly, I expected lots of crying throughout the night and it hasn't been like that at all, Thomas has cried for no more than a minute this week its fab!!!! would recommend trying it to anybody Grin
elf Hope your gran is on the mend (and your toe too!)

Nice to hear about all the toys your little ones are enjoying. Alice mainly loves watching her big sister playing, especially bouncing on the trampoline, but will also play by herself sucking on her stacking cups for quite a while.

Had a really horrible experience today, my own stupid fault. Put both girls into the paddling pool, they loked so sweet, I nipped into the house to get my camera... I came out 10 seconds later to find Alice on her back with the water almost covering her face Sad. I cannot believe I was so stupid. She was screaming for ages but calmed down enough to have a good breastfeed and then a long sleep.

On the good side, she has slept through the last 2 nights, without resorting to controlled crying Smile. The only thing I'm doing differently is giving her a really long bf before her bedtime, after her sister has gone to sleep, so there are no distractions. Usually she feeds for 5 mins max, but she was on there for 30 mins tonight. Not sure why she wants to do this suddenly, but if it means I have a good night's sleep I'm all for it!

On the subject of sleeping, am I the only one still swaddling their baby? I started when Alice was 3 weeks old and it really improved her sleeping, but ever since then whenever I've tried to unwrap her she just screams and waves her arms about. Nightmare in this hot weather - I have to wrap her up then have a fan on her so she doesn't overheat. Didn't have this experience with dd1 so don't really know how it will resolve itself. Any ideas?

Elf1981 · 15/06/2006 21:05

ponto sorry to hear about your bad experience. Hope you are feeling better.

Not sure about the swaddling, Evie has a problem in sleeping without her grobag which is okay but in the recent heat, even a 0.5 tog is too much!

teacakes · 15/06/2006 22:21

Ponto, sorry to hear your horror story, i know what you mean about scay moments. i had a 'skip a beat' moment today too. after feeding i changed DD on the floor and left her playing. went to the loo and then next door neighbour came round to collect some post. anyways when i came back into the room forget DD was on the floor and look to find an empty highchair. i think i stopped breathing, she was fine but i needed a big hug.

i figured why DD was crying for 30 mins that last few nights was because she was missing her grobag (due to the heat). but she did get used to it after a few days.

You guys might have done this one already - but suggestions please for good finger foods please...

mawbroon · 16/06/2006 09:21

YF - we started the cc two weeks ago today. Johnny has been waking at 4am 5am and 6am for the last couple of nights though. He is teething but I am not sure if the crying is because of the teething or not. His gums on the top are white and bulging. These teeth have to pop out at some point!

Ponto - I hope you've recovered from your fright. If you look at the positive side, at least you won't do it again!

teacakes - fingerfoods: cooked carrots/turnips in chip shapes, broccolli, cauli, banana, chunks of potato and sweet potato, strips of chicken or other meat, rice cakes, pear, melon etc etc. I haven't introduced wheat or dairy yet (but will be shortly) but you could also give pasta, toast, bread, cheese, crackers. Almost anything tbh.

Has anyones LO mastered the pincer grip yet? I am waiting on Johnny getting the hang of it and then I will be able to give him rice, peas, sweetcorn etc. It will take him ages to eat it grain by grain Smile

Johnny finally seems to be trying to move. I sit him on the floor with a V shaped pillow behind him in case he topples. Yesterday he was playing with his toys and when I looked over, he had turned 90 degrees and was facing the other way. I watched him for a bit (he didn't know I was watching) and he turned another 90 degrees, then he started leaning forward and sitting back up again. Then (get this bit!!) he pulled the pillow in close, put his head on it and then brought his legs out so he was on his tummy. He then managed to turn 180 degrees whilst lying on his tummy. I was laughing so much at the pillow bit. We have laminate floor and he must have learned that it hurts when his head clunks on it. Wink Either that, or it was just pure luck Grin

Elf1981 · 16/06/2006 12:14

lol mb at the pillow bit.

If the pincer grip is using the thumb and finger to pick things up, then yes, Evie can do it. She picks up all the tiny bits and bobs that usually lived peacefully on the floor, and she keeps praticing on my skin and pinches me when she's feeding. Ouch!

Off out tonight for my sisters hen night, tomorrow am getting up early to have Evie's 2nd lot of bounty photoes done.

mawbroon · 16/06/2006 14:28

Well, I said in my last post that Johnny's top tooth had to come through sooner or later and I saw this morning that it has finally made an apperance. I have made an appointment with the dentist for next month (soonest appointment would you believe!) and Johnny is going too! I bet he bites the dentists finger! Shock

That's the bummer about the pincer grip Elf, all the fluff on the floor comes to light! Although my nephew did once find his Dad's lost contact lens one time when he was around this age! I have noticed that Johnny has been practicing moving his fingers one at a time, so the pincer grip can't be too far off.

hub2dee · 16/06/2006 15:02
Elf1981 · 16/06/2006 16:52

Hub - still undecided on car sets, the next stage up starts at 9kg and Evie is still only 7.something kg so we have a while yet.

MB - our dentist doesn't do babies teeth til they're a year old!!

ponto · 16/06/2006 21:06

Better day today, refused to get paddling pool out again after yesterday's disaster!

Alice isn't quite there with the pincer grip. She still tries to cram fistfuls of food into her mouth but has now realised that it's easier just to let me do it for her, so sits there like a little bird with her mouth open, waiting for the spoon. Complete opposite of your BLW technique I'm afraid Mawbroon, I just want mealtimes to be over quickly without too much mess. What a selfish mummy Wink!

hub2dee · 16/06/2006 21:44
Yokefleet · 17/06/2006 07:07

I am probably being really dim Blush but what is BLW???

OP posts:
SusiS · 17/06/2006 07:27

yoke i think it's 'baby led weaning' - but not really sure what they mean by it!

we had a great day yday. went on our 'big toddle' (sponsored walk for charity) - and lucas did it almost 3 times (running backwards and forwards - it was 'only' half a mile) - caitlin enjoyed it too. but poor girl sat almost all day in her buggy - but that seemed to have worn her out too :o
there was a 'punch and judy' show and i got my boy to actually sit down for 15 min! and he especially loved he horsewagon and the ride :)
caitlin was just fascinated with everything!
(refused to nap in case she'd missed something)

afterwards took both to a nearby playground to meet one of lucas' friends - another hour running around (for me!)

guess who's shattered????
but both kids had an early night and dropped off in an instant :o

caitlin is doing so well now!
sitting like a pro - but no sign of moving :o (not rolling not crawling not shuffling)
she loves though to walk (holding on to our hands obviously :o) - yesterday she stood for a second all on her own!!!! :o
gosh, when it's your second you expect everything to be the same like the first time - but they are sooooooo different!

eating is no problem at all (she is like a hawk when it comes to food! - put something in front of her and she dives for it :o)

and she sleeps really well too!

just the entertainment during the day gets a bit harder now. she wants to do everything and just can't!! and gets frustrated - i have a little basket which i fill with various different things. whenever she gets cranky i just swap the things - she loves rummaging through it :o

mawbroon · 17/06/2006 08:08

YF - it's baby led weaning as SusiS says. Johnny and I have been doing it and basically it involves putting the baby straight onto finger foods at six months. It has worked really well for us and I haven't spoon fed him a single thing which is great for a lazy mummy like me! Grin

DH and I went on a "date" last night for the first time since before Johnny was born, so probably around 8 months or so! We just went for a Chinese buffet and a couple of drinks. It was strange strange strange being out without Johnny, but I managed to relax and enjoy myself. I was driving as I am off the bevvy (that's 16 months now!) so we didn't have to worry about getting home. PILs were babysitting and they reported that there wasn't a peep out of Johnny the whole time we were out. Hooray!

I am having bother with my wisdom tooth and I have found that Bonjella teething gel is quite good for my inflamed gum. Smile I think I'll have to get it out, but I researched online and it seems that this will still be ok whilst breastfeeding. If I was going to have to stop feeding, then I would just have suffered the tooth for a bit longer.

Elf1981 · 17/06/2006 21:11

Went on my sisters hen night last night... drag queens and strippers, oh my!

mawbroon · 19/06/2006 09:43

Did you enjoy it though Elf? when is the wedding?

Yokefleet · 19/06/2006 19:50

ELF sounds very intresting tell us more! Wink
MB I hadn't heard of BLW before, will maybe try that if we have baby number 2! Your "date" sounds like a really nice idea (we haven't left Thomas yet, it's my birthday soon and dh wants us to go out, so that will happen soon here)
p.s are your teeth feeling better?
SUSIS thanks and I know exactly what you mean about Caitlin getting frustated, same problem here! Grin

OMG! Joey pulled himself up from sitting to standing, completely unaided, with the aid of my mum's coffee table earlier!!! He looked really chuffed with himself. Looks like my boy will soon be properly on the moveSmile

Just found out one of my work colleagues has just had her baby, another little boy. Made me feel all broody....must wait till we move, i really must! Hope everyone's well, NM x

Elf1981 · 19/06/2006 22:07

twas fun. All held in the same place (place where my sister is getting married, also where I got married!) there were about four hen parties together, about 100 of us in total. 3 course meal, couple of drag queens who were really really funny, a host and two strippers. The first stripper dragged one of my aunts friends off to the stage and made her go on all fours where he rode her like a horse with reins in her mouth and whipped her!! The other bloke was... well, I wouldn't want you ladies to faint, but I'll scan and post a pic of mine and my younger sisters faces!

The wedding is on 19th Aug and I'm being a bridesmaid.

Evie is crawling and trying to pull herself into a standing position. She gets quite far bless her!

mawbroon · 20/06/2006 13:52

That sounds like a hoot Elf although I find myself not able to laugh as much at crude jokes as I used to! It just doesn't seem right for a Mummy.... Shock

Our council won UK council of the year last month and I must say that they score highly on kids entertainment. Today, Johnny and I have been to the dump to recycle the bottles (the only item that isn't recycled kerbside). On the way home, we watched the bin lorry emptying the wheelie bins. All the bin men were waving and coochy cooing at Johnny! And now, we have spent 20 minutes looking out the window watching them trim the trees and shove the cuttings into a shredder. Johnny was fair away with himself with all the excitment. Value for my council tax I would say. Wink

Well done Evie and Joey for the standing attempts. Johnny is still quite happy sitting still for now. It will be the end of my peace and quiet once he gets mobile though so I should enjoy it whilst it lasts. Smile
