A nice new thread for us all - I know someone mentioned it a few days ago Grin

Diege · 11/04/2006 14:11

Just a quikie before heading out Smile.
RODEO: Shock at your GP! Sounds eccentric (sp?), but then they are pften the best ones I've found. Wouldn't rush into a gynae examination all the same! LOL at 'LOndon to see friends' - I had a similar conversation, along the lines of 'going to LOndon to see friends' [friend: oh, who do you know in London then?] 'Oh, loads of people; there's a crowd of about 15 of us meeting up' [really, wow!! (look of new respect)that'll be fun!].
Well, off to meet friend for coffee, then Libby's first nursery visit!
Diege Smile

babyonboard · 11/04/2006 14:26

hi all..

also very much looking forward to tuesday..it'll be crazy to be able to know yours and your babies faces when reading your posts (though i can from the yahoo pics for some of you)

chacha -any news on if you can make it?

I met with tex this morning for coffee and pastries but was late as always... Blush
even though we spoke on the phone just before and confirmed 10.30 i was going about my morning stuff aiming to be out at 11.30..lol..and i didn't even manage a shower..

It was funny how the babies stare at each other.. i do wonder what they are thinking!?

all this talk of going back to work! can'tbelieve how fast the time is going..i need to decide if/what to do or if we should plan for baby 2 before..argh..lol

and am just about getting the hang of the wilkinet..
wanted to take my pram as the weather is awful today, but we punctured the tyre last night Angry

babyonboard · 11/04/2006 14:28

rodeo..lol at your g.p..i have two (very naughty i know when they are so oversubscribed) and I love going to the one back at my parents..e has beern my g.p since i was a baby so always has lots to chat about..
mine in london however just speeds through, writes a prescription and thats it..doesn't even listen to me most of the time..heheheee..i bet i've takwen many unnecvesary courses of antibiotics..

babyonboard · 11/04/2006 16:44

oh and for those that posted about my smoking habits..candimom your advice was particulatrly poignantand inspiring..but also londoner..good to hear of someone else that indulges but wishes they didnt..
I havent since the weekend before last..very easy to not smoke outside when dp does (where's the pleasure in standing out on the road in the cold..lol)
and as for doing it when out..i rarely get drunk, when at the pub it's more being around friends who do it..it feels quite natural to pick one up and do the same..i am determined to stop before i 'start' though iyswim

tessasmum · 11/04/2006 17:07

Good for you re the smoking BoB. I agree wholeheartedly with Londoner on it being an addiction that will always be there (and I've learnt more about addictions in the past 2 years than I ever thought I would need to know) What you need, as Londoner suggested too, are strategies to cope when you know you will be tempted. And go by the old adage of 'one day at a time'

Well, in between the broken nights, we have been busy here. In the past week Ash has found his toes (Nova - I'd forgotten that Tessa used to grab her trouser bottoms to bring her feet to her mouth Smile), learnt to blow great, wet raspberries and today he rolled from his back to his front - not sure who was more surprised as he hasn't shown much signs of it up till now.

Better go and get tea sorted, might try and get on later.

novadandypowder · 11/04/2006 19:20

It's very funny Tessasmum, as any time on the changing mat now she grabs her toes and helps me out. She seems to be able to do everything else but STILL no rolling.

Nat has started being a bugger to put down at night too, nothing has changed in her routine but for the past few nights I've had to go up 2 or 3 times to settle her. Have tried giving her extra water during the day today and put bonjela on her gums (well, tongue) before bed so we'll see if that makes any difference tonight.

OP posts:
Rodeo · 11/04/2006 19:20

Yes, pat on the back for BoB, well done! My dad claims to have stopped after a 40-60 a day habit but my sister only the other day spotted 2 packets of silk cut stuffed in his drivers side door. Thing is, we don't want to mention it for fear of hurting his feelings. How mad is that?! Sorry, not meaning you'll be hiding cig packets everywhere - just mean it must be a really hard addiction to kick :)

That is a very good word for my gp Diege - eccentric, just what I was looking for Grin

Rodeo · 11/04/2006 19:24

Nova, I don't know how anyone can apply Bonjela correctly!? It never comes off my finger - and even if it does it never goes in the right place! I always use liquid Anbesol for my ulcers and think you can use it for teething too? Although it might not taste as nice. One of my first word was 'Jela' Blush I used to bottom shuffle towards it and get v.excited when the little blue tube used to come out.....apparently!

GarfieldsGirl · 11/04/2006 19:56

Rodeo - lol at you loving blnjela so much as a LO. We use Dentinox for Sean, although I think its more of a distraction from the pain for 5 minutes while he eats it rather than for any soothing qualities.

BoB - Good on you for not smoking, Keep it up. Smile

Diege · 11/04/2006 21:04

Evening Smile. That's great BOB; know from my dad how hard it is to give up.
Had good visit to nursery this afternoon; LIbby seemed really settled, and looked like girl from exorcist swivelling head around to watch all the activity going on Grin. Will be leaving her next week for an hour or so while she has a feed, then again once more before she starts properly on the 27th. Just relieved that she enjoyed herself, smiling at all the attention!
Haven't had to worry about teeth yet, and no sign of rolling, or even turning onto side Grin. Quite put out when placed on front!
Well, absolutely shattered as only 4 hours sleep last night Sad. All 3 dds angels, but just woke at 3 and could not get back to sleep. Used to suffer from bad insomnia, so hoping it's not coming back - sod's law, as I've just dropped the late night feed Grin
BTW will be posting on yahoo re: info about killing 2 hours before meet! (will be out of my hotel by 9 Smile).
Diege Smile

beartime · 11/04/2006 22:05

GG - thanks for the info on car seats - mine does say 10kg somewhere sp that probably does mean the max weight then, cos that sounds abt right for 9 months. He capsized it the other day though Shock seatbelted in and everything!

Beks - 34 for a heart attack! Shock

How long do all your LOs stay somewhere with one toy/plaything? I'm wondering if mine is demanding or normal! He seems to only be good for about 5mins b4 wanting a change! Very hard to get on with anything.

Diege - let me know how the sleeping at nursery goes. I'm interested to see if I can take Caleb somewhere and him still sleep. He does in the car seat, but I don't know abt other places. What do they do there to get them to sleep - put them in a swing? How was the nursery? Is it the same one you took your others too?

Rodeo - LOL at internet friends - its funny isn't it, how we're still all real people but becos we met on the internet its kind of weird - someone was trying to persuade me how much more helpful it was to go to a real life mums and toddlers group. But I was thinking, then I'd have to go out the house, and I couldn't ask whatever questions I wanted etc. Grin

Tessasmum - isn't it fun how much they change in one week!

Diege · 12/04/2006 08:51

MorningSmile. All 3 at home today and have already had to break up row about who has the biggest paintbrush! At least it's not raining (yet) so hopefully can get out for some fresh air which always seems to make things better Smile.
BEAR: they have their own cots at nursery, with each baby having own bedding etc. Most babies just go to sleep when put down in the cot (eventually!), but they do rock some in chairs to get them off to sleep. Remember being really funny about this with dds, but by this age I do thing babies associate sleep cues with certain places, so falling asleep while rocked at nursery/out in buggy/carseat doesn't mean (from my experience) that they will now need rocking at home (famous last words!). DDs both went to same place, so pretty happy with the way they do things (staff are older too, which I feel more comfortable with). Cute to see Libby's name on charts, and she has her own peg and tray. They also follow a 0-3 'curriculum' (basically just responding to milestones etc that's made into a record book), but sounded quite impressive Smile.
Well, best go as big cat has just started drinking the painting water Shock.
Speak later!
Diege Smile.

Rodeo · 12/04/2006 10:09

Morning,

I've got mastitis - again. My boob KILLS and I ache like I've got the flu :( Got to go and see my nutcase doctor this later to get some antibiotics. Must be because she's weaning and needing less, quite looking forward to giving up bfing completely TBH. Anyway, the one consoling fact is that I've got it this week and not next!!

Bob they are cute I think I'd get the sheep one!

Diege, awwwwwwwww, Libs has got her own peg and drawer, that's lovely! How grown up, I remember the day she was born Grin

Right, better dash to stop that bath from overflowing x x x

goldenoldie · 12/04/2006 10:29

Bear - Nat can happily play for 20 - 30 minutes on his own, under gym or with some soft toys, but Ezra needs attention after about 4 or 5 minutes.

Just goes to show there is no norm - they are all different.

What has happened to all the ladies on our slimming thread - where have you all gone?

Diege - well done on getting nursery sorted.

I think we have found nanny for when I go back to work. Will be giving her a 'trial' next week.

Beautiful day again. Nice not to have to put boys in coats on day like this - must go and get some of that sunshine.

babyonboard · 12/04/2006 10:49

oh no rodeo - what a nightmare!
i like the sheep too..but the others look like they'd be easier to clean!lol
beartime..O can happily play for ages sometimes, other times he just refusesand wants my 100% attention
he loves a teething rattle he's got but gets quite violent with it and hits himself in the face so i have to supervise and take it away wich he hates!lol

i've got a friend with 4 boys under 9 coming for lunch..eek!
then off to the clinic which i really don't want to do..ho hum

Diege · 12/04/2006 10:51

Poor you RODEO!!!Selfishly, the first thing I thought was, 'oh no! will she be able to make it to the meet!! Blush. Hope GP will sort it out - it will be a test of what he's really like Smile.
GOLDEN: good luck with nanny trial - must be tougher than sussing out nurseries. Is she to be 'live in'?
BEAR: Attention span variew; 4/5 mins on a 'bad' day, up to 10 on good. As with us all I suppose it does depend on baby/mood/age etc...
Right, cake making pending..
Diege Smile

Diege · 12/04/2006 10:53

I would have gone for the sheep too! (being welsh and allGrin)

novadandypowder · 12/04/2006 12:22

BoB - I love those bugs things, a shop around here sells them and I eye them up everytime I walk past. We got given a good gift though for when Nat starts walking, it's a very trad solid stuffed toy dog that sits on wheels and has a push bar at the back.

Apparently the chair will last until they're about 2 or 29lbs whichever comes first. I've sold the vibrating rocker I had as Nat never really liked it and she'd got too big for it anyway. Didn't expect to get any replies on the for sale page, but sold it within 5 mins of putting it up.

It's funny how it's not until you've had your baby that you realise what you need/what would be good. There are a few things I wish we hadn't got, and keep discovering new things that I really like. Think I'm going to go against all the 'expert' advice and get Nat a door bouncer from the proceeds of the chair sale, she loves being thrown around. One way guaranteed to make her laugh is to either pretend to drop her, or throw her up in the air.

ChaCha · 12/04/2006 12:28

Hi girls,

Haven't time to catch up. The LO won't leave me in peace. He demands attention all day. He's no longer content in baby gym/swing etc.. he watches me leave the room and squeals or cries. His face lights up and he smiles mother of all smiles when I pick him up and play with him. He wants to sit up all the time and nosey around. I am knackered and can't get anything done. Just when you think you've got it all sussed! Is this normal or what?

Sorry for the 'me' post. Doesn't help that I've been arguing with DH.
Can't anyone make it up here for lunch and a coffee? I know a lovely little coffee shop ...

ChaCha · 12/04/2006 12:33

Is it selfish to tell one of your v.close friends that you need some time out? I just get sick of texts all day with other peoples problems/worries/commentaries. Am i being a b?
Today is not a good day. Thankx for listening.

Rodeo · 12/04/2006 12:47

Hurray I've got my antibiotics, just need to wait for them to kick in now....

Chacha - No you are not being selfish, I'm a terrible friend who just ignores phonecalls/texts/knocks on door when things get a bit much Blush And it does get you down a bit when all the baby wants is you. Dp takes J off me frequently but she just squarks at him! I'm not sure which is worse! My house today looks like a bombsite and I'm so fed up of forgetting about wet washing in baskets and then having to re-wash - I'm always doing that, J doesn't have any socks because they're all dirty or wet at the mo. Oh dear, that turned into a bit of a rant......

Bob you're right, the sheep would get ditched pretty quickly, my next choice would be the ladybird, or the pig, hmmmm, or the bee Grin Good luck with your 4 extra boys

We have a door bouncer, and I've not put J in it yet, thanks for the reminder, think I'll go and hunt it out.

Diege · 12/04/2006 12:52

Aw ChaCha, sorry you're having a bad day. I think a close friend would be understanding and not take offense, though less close may do Sad.
IMO what you're going through with Z is perfectly normal (starts at about 4 months?). V. tiring I know -and hard not to pick them up I know, though I purposely let L cry it out for a minute or so before responding, simply because I'd get nothing done otherwise (plus she has to wait anyway when dds are in the house!)Have to say I'm always glad when lunch time nap comes around Smile.
NOVA: We have door-frame bouncer and it's brill', gives them a new perspective on the world, and is perfectly safe if you make sure they don;t have too much body weight on feet (IYSWIM). Didn't realised they were frowned on?
(saw your sale BTW, VERY impressive!).

Diege · 12/04/2006 12:54

Hey RODEO, with you on wet washing in baskets!! Just had to put same load through again this morning Blush. Seems like it's hard enough getting it downstairs and in washer, without getting it dried too Grin
