Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
babyonboard · 07/04/2006 18:07

candimom - yes it is funny, especially as last summer I laughed so much at Dp when the same thing happened to him a while ago- but what kind of idea is it to have mean geese in a park and pond designed for children!?

Best go..seems O hadn't reacted to his jabs nd it was the start of a cold as he's very snuffly and grumpy today..
catch up later.

babyonboard · 07/04/2006 18:15

phew- he settled again, very relieved as i've just sat down with some coffee and biscuits after a very nerve frazzling day.

londoner lol at that so much! i have a book from the 50's on how to run an efficient household..it has some real gems..must dig it out and post you thwe bst ones.
something that springs to mind is how all bannisters and door handles should be cleaned and polished twice daily..heheheee

Rodeo.you can buy baby cups with a straw fixed into them like beaker spouts, i know my aunt found those the only thing her DS would take.

L&Ssmum hope the party is fun! sounds lik it will be happy chos..teehhe

oh dear..the little grump is stirring again, best go give him hugs..

babyonboard · 07/04/2006 18:46

lol - back again! who was it tht mentioned the perpetully cold cup of tea!? I'm considering buying a 'cafetiere cosy'as i'm sick of pouring coffee down the sink..hehhe

rodeo lol at the poo incident..O has just started to 'helpfully' grab his legs when I'm changing him and somtimes thrusts his hand into the messy nappy..tehee

okay, need some advice..I've made a major cock up , we are meant to be visiting m.i.l over the easter weekend and i forgot to book the train early, now the cheapest tickets we can find are £177 each! we can't afford it , or rather don't want to pay such an outrgeous amount and no way can we get the 6 hour coach with O!
we planned this about a month ago and she relly flies of the hndle when plans change and is bound to twist it out of all proportion and hold it against us for ages. i am going to call her as I know DP will react to her and make the sitution worse but i'm scared...lol

whats the best way to deal with this!? argh

Londoner · 07/04/2006 19:20

Meant to say BEKs - loved your post about door bouncers and pirates, how wonderful! What fantastic boys, sounds like they're a real 'gang' already.Smile.

BoB - loved your geese and bread roll post, lol so much!
Well done on braving BCG, hope O gets over his cold quickly.

Hi candi, would love to know what that 30's book is? Mine is in fact by Mrs. Beaton..... and is choc full of helpful advice from household management ( duties of the coachman/butler/ladies maid etc) to cookery ( roast goose BoB) and beyond......... all fascinating.....

Diege - hope you feel better v. soon.... [cup of tea]

Londoner · 07/04/2006 19:22

Oh and what's your book called BoB, yes please more helpful household tips....

babyonboard · 07/04/2006 19:37

lol londoner..mmm roast goose..might have to send dp out poaching tonight!

the book is called 'housecraft'

''A housewife may like to begin her household tasks soon after rising, so as to make time for an hour or twos relaxation before preparing for the gentlemna of the houses return. It is lways expected that one will change into fresh evening clothes and freshen up before greeting their husband from work. You should always greet him at the door to tke his coat so h is not forced to cll out for your attention. He will most certinly apprecite his slippers warming by the fire, and a small snack and his favourite newspaper laid out by his chair. Regardless of any troubles or misdventures have befallen you that day you should remain polite and cheerful, after all he must take time to unwind from his streessful day at work. For the same reasons you should ensure that your children remain well behaved and quiet so as not to disturb him.
Remember that this ritual is just as important for a husband in a labouring or manual job as those with more suitable careers.''

eeek!...you couldn't make this stuff up..hope you'll all be following this on monday ladies!

babyonboard · 07/04/2006 19:44

it's actually from the 70's though not sure if it was first published well before as this is the 10th edition
crazy

Diege · 07/04/2006 20:01

Hi allSmile. Thanks for good wishes about my lurgy, but remember I am a man-woman when it comes to illness, and should be receiving no sympathy whatsoever! Grin. Had a lovely lunch out today in the new fish restaurant (Loch Fyne, maybe one near you?), and contemplating an Indian for tommorrow night. Bit sad as DH had bought me a much-wanted digital camera for an anniversary pressie, but then confided in me (before he gave it) that he'd just checked our joint account (dire) and it would have to go back Sad. The odd thing is, I wasn't expecting anything at all, and would rather not have known!.
LOL at household tips LOndoner Grin; it's the tone that gets me, who would dare disobey?. I was given a little 'housewife' book by MIL when I got married Angry, which constantly stresses the importance of 'emptying the child's bowels' at set times every day, with special powders that will help (advertising even then!); you'd be surprised how a person's life course is set by the (ir)regularity of his/her bowel movements Grin.
CANDIE, oh yes, Dee-aje it is! LIKE it! Very sophisticated, unlike Deeeeej!! Congrats on becoming an aunt in the summer! Bet you'll get broody Smile. Hope you get your energy back soon Smile; know what you mean about attmepted 'naps'!
BOB: know I shouldn't say it, but I'd get some kind of warped pleasure out of telling your MIL about change of plans Grin; could you not get your DH to do the dirty work? (imagine how great to listen in); I know I'm evil Grin
TWINKLE: how about Mon 24th or Tues 25th for our meet?? Have dd1 off school now for 2 weeks, so a bit hard to get anywhere with the two of them, although you are welcome to come to my house if you fancy it? Imgaine you might have same Easter hols too though. 24/25th would be good for me (back at work 28th Sad, though I'm sure there's the odd day before then if you couldn't manage one of these dates Smile. Watch out the Lowry Grin.
Right, best go as missing Mike Baldwin's death scene Blush (oh and - hushed whisper - had nails done today and have another tasty titbit of JK goss!!!!, strictly for meet-up/Brownie's exclusive text service (soz Brownie, I'm keeping you waiting while I figure out texting - must ask DH!!).
Speak soon!
Dee-aje Grin

GarfieldsGirl · 07/04/2006 20:23

hi everyone

I've got a poorly one too now. Owen suddenly got a very high temperature las night, has slept most of today, but i don't know whats wrong as no cold/cough etc and he's not complaining of any pain, so just dosing him up on calpol and hopefuly he'll be better soon. Hope all the other poorly LOs are better.

Im gonna be hunting online tonight for old housekeeping books, something to have a good giggle at I think. Considering showing dp that little excerpt from your book BoB, but not sure if thats wise!! Grin

Hope everyone has a great eeekend.

L&Smum - have a fun day tomorrow Grin

Diege · 07/04/2006 20:49

Hi GG! Without wanting to turn this into a 'me' post, my dd2 had exactly the same thing a few weeks ago; just a high temp and needing lots of naps, lasted about 5 days? It's really common apparently this winter, with GPs asking, 'is it the vomiting one or the high temp one?' to parents.
Awww, feel really sad about poor MIke B; remember having a crush on him as a little girl Blush.
Well, first night that I'm not going to wake L up for a top-up. She only took one ounce last night, so figure that's not what's keeping her sleeping through! Let's hope I'm right!

novadandypowder · 08/04/2006 10:23

BoB - surely having a baby gives you the best excuse in the world? Just say he's poorly/sick/pooing everywhere/contagious and there's no way she can demand you take him to see her Wink.

Well can't say it was a very romantic reunion, DH has been asleep for most of the time since thursday. I now have the pleasure of doing all the washing when he gets around to unpacking today [rolls eyes]

We have however caught up on the episodes of 24 that we've been recording, and it's beginning to win me round. Also having a Prison Break catch up, but I can only do one ep at a time as I find it sooo tense.

Nat has been enjoying her high pitched screaming voice (can't remember who said that I would get tired of it very quickly, but you were right!). It does make me laugh though. It freaks DH out as she wasn't really doing it before he went away and now all I get is 'is she tired' 'is she hungry' 'is she in pain' 'is she alright', when she's just doing it for fun/attention.

Got some vouchers for John Lewis from my sister (very late Christmas pressie) so got Nat a Leap Frog Leap Pad, and a new bath seat. She's not too keen on the bath seat as its one you have to sit up in, and she adored her last one which was more like a little slide. She was far too big for the slide one though and could push herself out of it, so we'll just have to keep trying the sit up seat.

babyonboard · 08/04/2006 10:36

Hooray my wilkinet sling came today! I'm going to hve fun messing about with it..teehee..looks complicted! I hadn't realised you can use it as a hip seat too..very pleased!

Deige you are bad! i actually feel really guilty as we've only ever visitd her house once in the lst three years..ah well

Nova..lol t natalies squeals..O occasionly does a little one and looks surprised ''where did that come from!?''
Bath seat sounds great..I'll have to look around for one, at the moment he either comes in with me (brrrr for m.e.lol) or in his bby bth on the coffe table which is a big pain

I got him some fab new p.js this morning..red! it's so his colour..

DP is doing overtime today so i'm off to do some housework and then to the park (will avoid the geese..lol)..must get it all done nice and erlyso i can prepare for dp's return from work ritual of course.

novadandypowder · 08/04/2006 10:41

do you reckon it's ok to puree up frozen fruit? Sainsburys do bags of mixed fruit and I wondered if there were any fruits I should be avoiding for now?

OP posts:
babyonboard · 08/04/2006 10:59

yes I don't see why not..surely frozen fruit will retain more vitamnins thn fresh too?

Rodeo · 08/04/2006 11:00

Morning :)

Bob, yes I'd deffo go for Nova's idea of 'O's ill' to get out of going up! I use that excuse all the time!! It's the best!

Nova, Glad you've got into 24 - I am relieved! There's a repeat on of the last 2 ep's tonight so that's my saturday night sorted. What a great idea about frozen fruit, may pinch that for J! I'm sure it would be fine, do you have to hold out on strawbs though, in case of allergy? Annabel will tell us :)

Diege, poor Mike B! My childhood crush was JR! Grin I was about 3 at the time though - my mum used to take great delight in making me tell all her friends who my boyfriend was!

Candi - How lovely your sis is expecting - I would love that! Does she live in Canada?

Tessasmum - Shock Wow at you brother! That's really brilliant? Where abouts on the coast does he live?

Had a busy night at work - I ran the Grand National sweep last night for a pound ago, should have made it 2 quid as they all sold in an hour! Off to the bookies this morning to put a fiver down, so I'm going to do a little research before I go :)

babyonboard · 08/04/2006 11:03

lol i'm just watching the video tutorials on the wilkinet site and the baby is crying throughout it..teehee

babyonboard · 08/04/2006 11:04

what did i miss re. tessasmums bro?

dp joind a sweepstake but had to draw his horse out of a pot..his is 200/1 no chance!lol

Rodeo · 08/04/2006 11:10

Bob, yes Tessas bro has just passed to be a lifeboatman! AND he's got a full time job and 6 children!

I'd say your probably right that frozen probably have more vits - good thinking :)

Right chosen my horses (one was a tip from a regular last night and one's got ds's name :)), better get myself into gear and get down there......

babyonboard · 08/04/2006 11:47

wow thats amazing! well done tessasmums brother! those are just the kind of services that are suffering these dys through lack of recruits so it's a very admirable thing to do

there was a stall/marquee for the guides/scouts recruitment in town this morning..giving away ballons etc and they had a huge climbing wall..i really wanted a go but dp said no..lol

okay..washing is all done...house is hoovered..time to go play chase with the geese i think..and try to resist the lovely sndwiches and ice cream in the park cafe...hmmmm

babyonboard · 08/04/2006 12:41

lol..from the book...

''Underwear

It is esential to wear only garments that are fresh and clean, therefore fabrics that require the littlest ironing are a great asset here. A good routin can be formed by washing out underwear every night, when they are usully dry by the next morning. Regular and frequent changing is most rewarding, as it is more hygenic and poses less strain on the fabric in washing.

On an average budget two items of panties and one vest or petticoat per houshold membar will be more than sufficient if good washing rules are adhered to''

babyonboard · 08/04/2006 12:42

okay..now we really are going out..i was witing for my friend to get rady, which is most unusual as it's normlly me that causes the hold ups and delays..lol

enoy your weekends in this lovely weather everyone!

novadandypowder · 08/04/2006 16:21

I had a feeling it was strawberries you had to watch, but they seem to put them in all the ready made purees you can buy? Got some peas, blueberries, and dried apricots to puree - this morning we had melon which I over pureed at first and ended up with melon juice!

ChaCha · 08/04/2006 20:38

Tessasmum - Congrats :) And 6 kids!! WoW.

BoB - LOL at underwear excerpt :)
I have to thank you btw. I was questioning why DS was taking a bit too long to drink from his bottles these days until I read your post and realised that we needed to get new teats!!! Blush Have just bought some and will see how he finds them later this evening - can't believe I didn't notice that, the shame!

Busy - Z was 14lbs 10 on Tuesday, just getting onto the 25th centile. He's gotten quite 'chunky' since I upped the bottles. Can't believe he will be 5 months old next week! Shock Where did it go?

Have a peaceful Sunday x
