Merry Christmas. It is officially Christmas here now. All presents wrapped and under our 'tree' which is actually a very lovely whites stick thing with a reindeer that the lovely owners of this holiday accommodation put up for us. They also gave us a delicious platter of home made yummy treats (which we have gorged on) and snoepjes for the boys.

Loving the snowboarding today. This is a great area, hoping to get the boys to stay with their instructors over lunch on weds so we can go check out the kitsenhorn glacier.

Sorry about all the the pox, crap but I guess everyone is winding down & laying low this time of year. Will it effect anyone's Christmas celebrations? I know Lady was already having a tricky one withh the oven bailing on her.

VagolaJingling · 24/12/2012 23:15

Hi summer. Kayz let us know how the pudding goes.

JumpJockey · 24/12/2012 23:25

Hello all, am banished from bed as dh wrapping pressies up there so what else to do but visit mn?!

Happy Christmas to you all lovely ladies, and happy birthday to Eddie, Rosie and Joshua (who has probably woken up 4 already!), ahev a wonderful day all and hope the mystery poxes go away :)

I managed to slice my finger horribly with a sharp knife so have been doing all the veg prepping wearing a surgical glove, it looks v odd esp when I answered the door to the postie and forgot it was there Xmas Blush but at least it's stopped hurting, god bless dh's medical cabinet...! Dds both very excited about Santa, can't wait to see their faces tomorrow. Oh to be a nipper again!

McKayz · 25/12/2012 05:40

Merry Christmas!!! Happy Birthday Eddie, Rosie and Joshua!!

Vag, pudding went down very well thanks. Not worth all the stressing at all.

Is it wrong to go and prod the boys so they wake up?

sybilfaulty · 25/12/2012 06:42

Happy birthday to our Christmas babies and MERRY CHRISTMAS to you all, my lovely friends. Another great year of friendshop and chat. Let's get together in 2013 and also let's get that weekend cottage.

Thinking of everyone who is missing someone at Christmas and hoping you have a peaceful day.

beans37 · 25/12/2012 19:44

Merry Christmas everyone! A great day here. Turkey was perfect and sprouts providing much wind. Happy days!
Girls happy as Larry and all pigged out and sleepy. Mum doing bedtime stories now. DH and I slobbed out on sofa.
Lots of love.
X

VagolaJingling · 25/12/2012 19:47

Merry Christmas all. Am completely shattered after late night wrapping early start, yummy fry up, full day of snowboarding & the Christmas dinner tonight. Boys finally about to go to bed, I could sleep now too but want to watch Dr Who on iPlayer. I think this glüwein is not helping matters.

Hope your finger is ok JJ.

VagolaJingling · 25/12/2012 19:50

Hello Beans. How was MIL? Did your mum have a nice day, must be hard for her, but good to be with her beautiful grand daughters.

Nolda · 25/12/2012 20:04

Merry Christmas everyone!

And many thanks to my Secret Santa for Dear Lupin, I'm looking forward to reading it.

ArtigeneAuberchoke · 26/12/2012 08:30

Merry Christmas everyone! I hope you all had magical days. We really did. The only blip was that the girls watched the Snowman and the Snowdog and DD2 was inconsolable at the melting if the snowman. She is so sensitive it shocks me everytime. We had 15 mins of wailing "Why do snowmen have to die? And baby jesuses die too. And mummy's mummy. I miss them all. Poor snowman. Wa, wa, wa." intense child!

I put on 4 lbs in a day. I guess the baby was hungry. It wanted 9 roast potatoes smothered in gravy and bread sauce. Plus the rest. Oops.

spotofcheerfulness · 26/12/2012 09:10

Happy Christmas everyone!
Hope you all had good days (or good enough), illnesses notwithstanding.

sybilfaulty · 26/12/2012 10:39

Hope everyone has a restful day xx

waitinggirl · 26/12/2012 11:22

hello ladies - happy christmas to you all!

swearing alert: fucking arsing fucking cunting chicken pox.

and apologies for that - just needed to get it out of my system

yes, we are pox laden, too (despite incompetent north welsh doctor claiming "i don't really know what this is, but it definitely isn't chicken pox" - not to malign rubes' dh or jump's dh - but this doctor is well known in the village for being a terrible terrible doctor)

so poor dd1's birthday and christmas have been ruined by chicken pox, my 40th birthday plans for friday look like they are going to have to be shelved due to poxtasticness. and i am feeling exhausted and permanently weepy. we are with the pils in north wales - pil currently on a 60 mile round trip to go to the local pharmacy to get some provisions for dd1. we got an emergency appointment on christmas eve for her (with numpty doctor), but he claimed it wasn't the pox and she wasn't itching at this point. so we've had to get through the whole of christmas without any antihistamines or anything other than oat baths and calpol.

screaming baby... must go

JamInMyWellies · 26/12/2012 12:06

Hope you all had lovely days, and that the pox ones are feeling better soon.

Arti in our house it was DH and I weeping after watching snowman and snowdog.

Thankyou for my lovely scarf Secret Santa perfect for keeping me warm on dog walks.

Sybs your welcome.

Round 2 today all the outlaws coming over including a sick niece, grr. Why are you bringing her stay home we dont want your germs!

beans37 · 26/12/2012 13:43

Oh WG, that sounds miserable. I love the swearing! Most satisfying.
Apart from that, I hope you all had a lovely time.
Thank you to my fab SS, whose nail polishes are heavenly. I never buy myself the right ones, so they're perfect!

Must dash.

Loads of love xx

DeidreBarlow · 26/12/2012 15:52

WG poor mite! The Pox is truly hideous, I hope she's feeling better soon.

And ladyt how is O? Any sign of D having it too? DD still remains pox free....Spot how is T? Oh my we've really had an epidemic haven't we?

I hope everyone else has had a lovely Christmas. DHs family arriving any minute. He's working & I've spent all day baking/cooking. I'm shattered and just realised I've not eaten yet today I've been that busy! Need food and a large wine asap! Right best crack on....much love to you all, especially the pox ridden x

waitinggirl · 26/12/2012 23:40

glory be to the powers which are antihistamines and various over the counter remedies (and my fil who travelled the 60 mile round trip to get them). at last she has a few hours itch free and can sleep. now, how to rescue my 40th birthday plans...
love to all

Rubena · 27/12/2012 08:17

Hope all had lovely Christmas etc! Lovely day had here and as predicted was pushed out of the kitchen by mil. May need to just accept! Will need total detox in Jan!
Fair bit of illness with our visitors still - they've had cold/ flu practically entire visit. Cannot believe all these pox cases! Not here (yet)
Thank so much to my SS xx - (will be joining the gym fortunately!)

ZuleikaJambiere · 27/12/2012 10:28

Merry Christmas and a happy new year to you all, especially those with the pox, poor little things. Given how it has spread round the thread, I'm starting to wonder if our children have been enjoying a meet up if their own?!

Thank you so much for my lovely mug from my secret Santa, I'm currently enjoying my cuppa from it - which reminded me to come on here and thank you

Happy birthday to Liaden and Max for the coming days (if Turnip and Effie are lurking), and also happy 40th to Waiting

Must attempt some packing for our NY break, while DD2 snoozes - if I can find anything under the mountains of wrapping paper. Dd1 has only just finished opening her gifts this morning, she's so sweet as she's wanted to play with each one before opening the next

Indith · 27/12/2012 14:39

Home! Just the one child, left the big ones behind. Now to unpack and work out where to put all the new presents.

By the way. I don't mind AT ALL relatives getting it wrong. What I do mind is when they ask, get told no, get told why not, get told what else along the same lines would be good and then go ahead and buy the wrong one anyway Angry. FIL has got ds1 who will be 6 in 2 weeks a very lovely wooden garage suitable for a 2/3 year old. It will look very nice next to the fire station also suitable for a 2/3 year old that he got him last year and that he never plays with I suppose Hmm. Dh already told him it would be too young for him and that he really wanted proper scale model type cars. Thankfully the large box Ihave from FIL to stash away for ds1's birthday is the globe he has asked for, I didn't think FIL'd buy it as he went Hmm and didn't really believe it when we said ds1 wanted one. FIL doens't realise/understand/pay attention to/want to know that ds1 is a small geek and that dd is a girl who like dinosaurs not pink sparkly doll related shite so when he rings and asks what they want we tell him and he replies "but that's not much fun/I wanted to get something he could really play with/but she's a girl!" and then ignores us Angry.

Oh that rant feels good. I shall go back to being very grateful for a grandad who enjoys buying presents again. And I shall go unpack those presents, put them away and this evening I shall enjoy a proper read and catch up to see what oyu all got up to over Christmas.

sybilfaulty · 27/12/2012 19:34

Indith, my MIL is like that - she bought DD1 a wooden bike for her first birthday, despite my saying that she wouldj't be able to use it as it was far too heavy. She asks Qs but never listens to the response. She didn't even buy tthe DCs presents, just paid for some of ours. My DDs are so easy to buy for as they like crafts and lots of girl stuff (clothes, hair bobbles, most of Cath Kidston etc) but still no present. I got a fetching set of Portmeiron Garden tealights which I am desperately looking forward to using when I am 75....

Girls, can I ask some advice? I may have mentioned (once or twice) what a rubbish guest MIL is. She really does just sit there and wait for the next meal / drink / cuppa to appear. Doesn't rise til 10, doesn't read the children stories or really engage with them at all. She's now said she is going to be alone for NYE which has made DH feel guilty. This is her first year without my wonderful FIL, which makes me feel we should invite her back. I do like spendning NYE on the sofa though, drinking wine with DH and watching rubbish telly. She would put the brakes on that though.

Thoughts? Should I do the decent thing and invite again or have I done my duty?

waitinggirl · 27/12/2012 21:35

sybs - a while ago i'd have said, go on, sod her and do your own thing, however i'm now of hte opinion to do the honourable thing. it's only one year (make sure she doesn't expect it as a regular thing) and grab that moral high ground and don't come doen from it. you never know when it might help you in the future.

indith - that is INFURIATING! i have a mil who rings me in a panic, wanting to know what to buy the kids, i suggest things, she gets them and then claims ALL THE GLORY when the kids love them. she literally didn't mention me and my suggestions AT ALL. my eyes nearly rolled out of my head when she kept telling people the reams of reasons she had to buy the gifts i had suggested. you'll be glad to know that she stormed out of the sitting room on the first night we were there because she wanted to turn the christmas tree lights off at 10pm because she was going to bed (my fil, dh, my df and lovely ladyfriend not being considered responsible enough to switch them off when we went to bed). i jovially begged her to leave them on as they were the only christmas tree lights we were able to have all christmas (we're still living in a building site so no tree) and that was it - off she stormed.

my 40th tomorrow - we're supposed to be having a kids' friendly get together in the pub in the afternoon, then a more grown up drinks do in the evening. alas my kids won't be there in the afternoon as they will be in quarantine. sob. will miss them.

McKayz · 28/12/2012 06:55

Arti I can solve the problem of DD2 having no one to marry. She can marry DS2. He has just come crying to me about having no wedding ring and about how no one will marry him. Bless him Grin

Rubena · 28/12/2012 09:27

Sybs. Can't you invite her over but still do what you want and watch the telly and drink wine etc?
Don't even get me started about guests / help / kids interaction / kids tolerance. If I do I'll get all annoyed / depressed.
Still coughing up the largest sheets of green gunk from my nose / chest I've ever seen.
WG good to see you round ere. Families eh. Just make us livid! Hope you have a happy happy birthday! I was casually suggesting to my fam I might plan a trip for my 40th with plenty of notice then if they all want to come, great as it will be a oat your own way type thing (otherwise db and I wind up skint) and mum says " well if you can make it Aust that would help us out so we could come" I nearly choked on my wine and reminded her we are the ones towing 2 smalls about and as much as I love my trips home I always feel like I need a holiday when I get home so won't be doing that for my 40th!!

Rubena · 28/12/2012 09:30

*Pay not oat.
I'm thinking either skiing. A villa in Thailand with nanny built in or big Gite in France or Spain in Summer.
