Oh also LOs nappys poo nappys tonight have had a slight green to them, anyone no if this is normal or something to word about?

PetiteRaleuse · 04/11/2012 05:23

Nervous I was given to understand by the mw in hospital that poo is worryingif it ontains blood or is beige or white. Various shades of yellow, green and brown are all apparently fine...

Madam, glad your sister is able to help with your meds. I've been limited to paracetamol since the section and the first five days or so wasn't fun !

Evilwater · 04/11/2012 05:39

Nervous- any shade of yellow is fine, green is fine too.

Everyone keeps telling me the nights will get better. Baby evil why don't you sleep? I've been feeding him on and off for over two hours now.

Evil

ValiumQueen · 04/11/2012 05:52

I thought green nappies were to be monitored. I wish there was consistent advice for us.

madam I know you know you need to rest. It is a stupid thing to say to a mum of a newborn especially with older kids. How do we do that? At the hospital on friday the sister said you need to forget about the other kids, let DH manage them, and just stay in bed wth baby. I managed a few hours of that.

It is interesting on the pre- natal thread the mums saying they would rather be awake with a newborn. I would happily pop him back for a night!

ValiumQueen · 04/11/2012 06:00

blonder growth spurt. You are both doing really well.

evil the nights will get better eventually but it depends on the baby as to when. I have heard boys are not so good at sleeping. Not sure if any truth in that. It is still early days.

Thechick · 04/11/2012 06:00

Blonder I've got the tablets, started taking them today, we'll see how it goes!!

White poo, I can't imagine.

blonderthanred · 04/11/2012 06:30

Woo hoo! L slept for a couple of hrs so I got a break. I genuinely don't know how parents with young DC do it. Nuff respec'. (Guess I might find out in a couple of yrs)

Our poo (well one of the household) is greeny yellow, I guess at a push it could be described as mustard but some really organic French kind. The mws want scrambled egg. I am refusing to worry as long as its on the brown-green-yellow spectrum.

MadamGazelleIsMyMum · 04/11/2012 06:52

Haha vq a couple of nights ago I was feeling like that even though I knew that this side I would feel different. Also, easy to say ignore the other(s), but am anxious hat DD doesn't feel ignored or uninvolved,

Feeling more positive now it is daytime.

rowingdowntheriver · 04/11/2012 07:00

I'm so tired! Sleepless nights from the newborn I can just about cope with but now he is bunged up and sneezing it is making it hard for him to feed (could he be allergic to the cat?)

On top of that the toddler has had a norovirus for the last 2 weeks giving him dreadful diarrhoea and the worst nappy rash I have ever seen - his bum is literally bleeding. We are doing everything we can to heal it but it is just not getting any better and means he keeps waking at 6am. On top of that he is coming down with a chest cold too :(

Sorry for the moan, don't want to moan in real life as once I do it'll be hard to stop!

rowingdowntheriver · 04/11/2012 07:03

On the poo front, I had thought that greenish is ok for the meconium but not so good for the normal poo that comes after that as it can be a sign of infection. If in doubt google baby poo - there are websites with pictures of what is ok and what is not. I spent a lot of time on these when DS1 was young!

GTbaby · 04/11/2012 07:20

Say here expressing. After LO marathon winge lady night didn't bother to express last night, so thought I better get up early n mk effort.

DH n I split up night shifts. I do 12 n 3. Then he does 6 onwards. Prob is I do my shift without waking him Hmm. N on his shift I have to wake him. Then listen to him faf about getting up. Going loo. Then making milk. Then picking LO up. By which point I've given up n started feeding him lol. Well not lol actually. Only good thing is at 9 feed DH takes LO downstairs n will leave me to sleep.

Nervous I had my edd on 1 st n was really weird! Can't believe he has been here so long already

GTbaby · 04/11/2012 07:22

Managed a 50mil express! Will FC have a full feed by lunch time. This early expression time was worth itGrin

ValiumQueen · 04/11/2012 07:41

madame I agree it is impossible to ignore the other DC. Especially with the second baby and if the first is still wee. In some ways I am finding life easier this time as there are two older siblings, so they have each other and it is not such a major change as it is for your PFB. Just please be careful madame I am concerned you are home so soon, but it sounds as if you have good support. Unfortunate about the visitors. Do just piss off to your bedroom whenever you need to, and take DD too if you want, and can cope.

blonderthanred · 04/11/2012 07:42

Thanks rowing, I've had a look and it says that green poo could be a sign he is not getting enough hindmilk so that could be a clue to this weight gain issue. However he does feed for long stretches so I'm not sure why he wouldn't be getting it. Maybe worth mentioning to the mws though.

NervousAt20 · 04/11/2012 08:00

Thanks ladies for your help with poo Grin I went to doctor google and found...

Green poo can be a sign that your baby is taking in too much lactose (the natural sugar found in milk). This can happen if she feeds often, but doesn't get the rich milk at the end of the feed to fill her up. Make sure your baby finishes feeding from one breast before your offer her your other one.

If we have anymore today then ill phone someone and see what they say

StuntNun · 04/11/2012 08:32

Rowing it's unlikely your baby could have a cat allergy already, it's much more likely to be a cold.

Nervous green poo, especially greenish poo, is nothing to worry about in a breastfed baby so long as there aren't any other symptoms. My DS2 had lactose overload and his poos were green but there were loads of them (6-7 a day at three months) and he was having a lot of windy pain and explosive diarrhoea. Go on to the breastfeeding sections and you'll find out more. Apparently the fore/hindmilk imbalance theory is no longer considered accurate.

rowingdowntheriver · 04/11/2012 10:44

I really hope not stuntnun, I'd hate to have to give the DS2 up!

MadamGazelleIsMyMum · 04/11/2012 11:09

Thanks for the poo info ladies, DS has only passed meconium so far but I shall no doubt be taking a keen interest in poo colour soon. In other poo news (TMI alert) I have had first bowel movement and my wound stayed closed - was scared it would open!

Visitors now mainly gone, just my mum left now. She's not reall like a visitor either. She has taken DD to the park and DH is having cuddles with DS after a 50 min feed, so I'm off to bed.

I was super keen to get home ASAP but everyone else has expressed a lot of surprise and doubt that it was actually appropriate to be discharged afte less than 24 hours. Difficulty is that hospital was so busy they weren't monitoring either of us really, little in way of drug dispensing- I read my notes and I was supposed to have dicolfenac GT but no one picked up on that or gave me any. No one checked DS's latch or nappies or anything, so felt like I might as well come home. Community midwife coming shortly and DH has said he won't let me be breezy about things, which is a good thing I guess. I don't like not being 100% and am rubbish at admitting that!

Catbag · 04/11/2012 11:14

Erm, sorry to fling this in here as there's too much conflicting advice already, but when my eldest daughter (the twin) was 6 weeks old she had green poo- proper pond sludge colour- and it was a sign of a mild tummy upset. Problem was that she was prem and only just over 4lbs, and although she was feeding well withnlots of wet nappies, she had started to lose a little weight again and ended up being readmitted to hospital for three days so that they could monitor her feeding and suchlike. Thing is, i was quite sure that it had been a mild tummy upset and that she was coming out of the other side of it, but was roundly chastised by the hv for not seeking help beforehand as she'd had the poo for two or three days. As it was, i was right and she was discharged once the hosoital staff had seen that she was feeding properly and was recovering. They made me pump milk on top of exclusively bf twins though so that they could be sure she was getting enough to eat (so it was a bit like feeding triplets) and i swear i was so hungry i could have cried. There was not enough food on the planet to make me feel like i'd eaten anything at all.
The point of me mentioning this is that I believe green poo should be monitored (by you, anyway) and if you are worried, ask someone about it. The hv really ripped into me, but my instincts were right. Had it gone on for much longer, I would have mentioned it to someone, but I could see she had turned a corner and she was putting weight back on by the first night in the hospital.
Hope that all made sense- feeling a bit sleep deprived this morning!

Catbag · 04/11/2012 11:17

Good work on the bm Madame! It took me a week after my section to go for a poo and I was frikkin TERRIFIED that my incision was going to explode. Was fine though :)

PetiteRaleuse · 04/11/2012 11:53

Holding on to the incision site when coughing, sneezing or during bm helps with the fear of it opening up. If you don't want to handle it then hold a cushion or maternity pad over it

NervousAt20 · 04/11/2012 12:07

Thank you catbag I will keep a close on eye it today and if I get a couple more then ill phone someone this afternoon to double check

ValiumQueen · 04/11/2012 12:41

Fucking midwives! They discharged me yesterday, and called this morning asking how I was. They then said they needed to visit tomorrow to weigh Jacob again. I asked why, they said because he is not feeding properly and is not gaining weight. I said this was the opposite of what I was told yesterday and said that I was refusing a visit and refusing him being weighed for the 4th time in 7 days. I said thay were not helping my stress levels, and needed to trust me that as an adult, with considerable experience of breast feeding and now on my third exclusively breast fed child, I would contact the hospital or HV if I had any concerns. Not about trust she said, it was about tying things up properly before discharging. I reminded her we were discharged yesterday! Still fucking fuming.

TheDetective · 04/11/2012 12:45
