September 2012 babies - warmest welcome!

Here's the new thread for September babies fresh from the oven!

I'm a first time mum and I'm struggling with breast feeding at the moment, my 6-day old DS always seems to be hungry (a feed every 2-3 hours, each lasting roughly an hour), and when he's hungry he's very aggressive towards my nipple Sad it really hurts! Any tips out there? And how often do you feed your baby and for how long? how do you teach your baby to be gentle on the nipples? Envy

Good luck to those still waiting for their babies to come out! Will be watching out for more baby news!

i was due a smear last Feb, so am taking advantage of DP having next week off work, and have the delights of a smear booked, a dental check up, and DS2's 12 week injections (which he never had as was in hospital when they were due). Also considering booking him an appt to open a bank account for DS2, and also need to get my tax return done next week so its out of the way! what a fund xmas week :)

We haven't written a single xmas card yet, sticking my head in the sand, not sure i want to know when last posting day is but sure we'll be late...not wrapped a single present and not ordered food online, so going to be a busy week... ho hum, just eaten about 8 thorntons chocs, that will make everything alright surely?! :)

Macaroons · 18/12/2012 17:58

Yeah Xmas is just round the corner! Loopy, no worries about late Xmas cards, people would understand!

Leetleloo - glad that your kids sleep well.

Re how much baby eat, with bf you can't tell so you can only trust the baby. Same with ff babies I'd imagine? There could be days where they just don't want to eat as much. So wouldn't worry too much

A quick question on sleep, say if you want them to sleep 7-7 i read somewhere that you shouldn't let them nap 2-3 hours before 7. What if the little one just wants to sleep? My DS is half asleep right now after the 5.30 feed, think its abit cruel to make him stay up. What would you do?

leelteloo · 18/12/2012 21:08

Re sleep, I don't ever stop them napping and my 3 year old still sleeps in the afternoon if we are at home. Ds can have loads of sleep in the day and still go down all night. But 7 till 7 is bit long at this age, I think, so I wake ds when I go to bed for dream feed. Good napping has always helped mine sleep at night??

cjbk1 · 19/12/2012 09:17

Morning all v.quick question I'm fully BF'ing and GP put me on cerazette (instead of my normal Yasmin ) on first packet iv not had any periods but now feel like I might Sad will it give me periods despite BF'ing? thanks all x

MakeTeaNotWar · 19/12/2012 09:55

I'm also on Cezarette and in the first week I had some bleeding then nothing. With DD I had on / off spotting then no periods at all until I stopped taking it (and got BFP 2 months later!)

ThedementedPenguin · 19/12/2012 10:45

cjbk1 I am also on cezarette onto second packet and I've had no period. I took these before I was pregnant, I only ever had a period every few months on this. (Which nearly killed me)

Re: sleep, I let him sleep whenever he wants we don't have a set sleep routine, if he's tired he'll go to sleep. I don't think it matters when he sleeps as I just put him to bed between 8-10. Still gets up twice. Although on Sat night he slept from 4/5, woke at 7 for bottle then didn't wake again until 5. Was very shocked and I kept wakening up all night so I didn't get as good a sleep as possible.

So Herbie had his injections yesterday, he was amazing only cried when the nurse done the second injection. He really has been great now he's all better. Very chatty and happy.

My little sister's dd sleeps from 9pm-9am and only wakes for dummy at night time. She is 16 weeks old. Also my aunties 11 week old ds has slept through most nights from week 2 or 3. He goes down most nights at 8 and wakes around 6.30/7 am.

Every baby is different, so I don't think it matters what you read your baby will just do what it wants. Plus I love my night cuddles :)

Btw I have nc'd. This is Rachel :)

cjbk1 · 19/12/2012 12:06

Thanks dementedpenguin and maketea all 'symptoms' have stopped now and we had a lovely morning meeting Santa now to turn the house around before school pickup x Wink

Moominsummermadness · 19/12/2012 13:04

Hello everyone.

Have had a very busy few days- for her birthday last week, DD1 just wanted money and for me to take her clothes shopping with it. I thought we would go in to Coventry on the train, but they go every hour, and there was no way we were going to make the one we were aiming for. As the bus station is next to the train station, we decided to get the next available bus. Unfortunately, I didn't realise that the one we got goes on stops at literally every stop en-route! A twenty minute journey took an hour, and I had to breastfeed Lola as she got very fed up. We had a good day out though, and DD1 spent her £165 in an hour and a half!

Later, DD1 had a sleepover, so I had six girls overnight. Then I've been backwards and forwards with DD3's physio appointment, DD1's Christmas performances, and doing the last of the Christmas shopping. Then DM rang at 7am this morning to ask if I could pick up her dentures from the lab as she's working flat out this week, then the weird little denture man shuts up shop, and DM wouldn't be able to eat her Christmas dinner! So I walked around town with DM's dentures in my bag today. Xmas Grin

Re sleep- Lola just sleeps when she wants to in the day, but always goes to sleep between 10 and 11pm, then wakes up between 5.30 and 7am. She usually has a nap between about 7.30 and 9pm.

cjbk1, it's funny that you should mention that about cerazette, as I've been the same this week. I'm on my second pack now, and still ebf. Two days ago, I felt crampy, weepy and irritable, and my boobs were hurting. I was sure I was going to have a period, but the symptoms have disappeared.

We've got Lola's 12 week jabs tomorrow, not looking forward to it!

cjbk1 · 19/12/2012 17:41

moomin I hope your DMs dentures fit because they normally need some adjustment by the dentist even if they are a copy, im a dental nurse
I do understand you were pushed for time

Moominsummermadness · 19/12/2012 19:10

It's ok, cjbk1, from what DM said, the dentist sends the impression to the lab (where I collected them from), and DM will have to take them along to the dentist for fitting properly. It all seemed a bit strange to me, I would have thought that the dentures would be sent to the dentist. I don't know how you can do that job, I'm funny about dodgy teeth!

cjbk1 · 19/12/2012 21:30

oh I see...yes usually the lab sends them to the Practice but maybe they'r trying to avoid waiting for the delivery driver or Royal Mail so close to Christmas? I love my job! so much more to it then toothy pegs lol x tho I might not be able to return as the eczema on my hands is so bad and aggravated by gloves

Macaroons · 20/12/2012 00:58

Am having a rough time with blocked breast duct :( it was fine yesterday, today both breast suddenly went very hard! Just did the night feed and it didn't help, gonna try expressing now, at 1am while everyone is asleep!!!!! Not fun ConfusedConfusedConfused

Ouch macaroons, you poor thing. Shock
Hope they clear soon! Cabbage leaves cold from the fridge is very soothing.
Nice new name Rachel but you'll always be Rachel to me Wink
Pre school Xmas concert today; let the kitten hurding begin.

NightmareWalking · 20/12/2012 21:43

I like 'kitten herding'! Today I went to town with DD in the sling.. gosh, my back can really tell how well she's piling on the weight now! Ouch. Hope everyone else is getting ready for Christmas with their LOs. Xmas Smile

Moominlandmidwinter · 21/12/2012 17:07

Nightmare, I carried Lola around in the sling during DD1's shopping expedition last week. My shoulders and back were so sore the next day!

The older DDs are so excited now that they have broken up from school for Christmas. I've got my food order arriving tomorrow, and am keeping my fingers crossed that everything is in stock. I really don't want to have to go to the supermarket in person!

ThedementedPenguin · 22/12/2012 17:53

leelteloo I'm happy enough for anyone to call me Rachel, I only changed it incase my sister signed up. she bugs me and copies everything I do so didn't want her to find me haha

Macaroons did the 1am feed help? Hopefully by now things have settled down now and are back to normal. I second the cold cabbage leaves, I used them just after labour and they were a god send although I cannot eat cabbage at all. Not even a tiny bit.

What is Kitten Herding?

I don't use a sling but on Tuesday I took Herbs to doctor and after we went across to a wee craft shop, by time I'd bought my mum a present and walked back to car I thought I was going to collapse, the next day I could barely move my back was sore.

Hope everyone is having a quiet weekend, is everyone ready for Christmas?

leelteloo · 23/12/2012 00:27

Just back from the carol concert at the royal Albert hall. I didn't want to leave dh with both kiddies over night so took Euan with me. He was amazing and didn't cry once and slept the whole time. Grin Now I feel like its Christmas. Back home tomorrow and then let the cooking commence.
Kitten herding is just what I call trying to get a bunch of toddlers/pre-schoolers to do any sort of organised activity. And it was exactly that, they were wandering off here and crying for mummy there: all in all very very cute.

Macaroons · 24/12/2012 00:36

Leetleloo and penguin - thanks. Blocked duct now seems normal after DS sucking on it for hours. Phewww! He just threw up after I thought I'm almost done with night feed though. It looks like there's 2 oz of milk :( he looks happy though so hope everything is fine.

Hope everyone is well, and no one is affected by the flood. Looks pretty bad on the news!

Happy Christmas everyone Grin

ThedementedPenguin · 24/12/2012 21:46

Happy Christmas from my family to yours. I hope you have a good day. :)

WhereAreMyShoes · 27/12/2012 23:48

Hope everyone had a good Christmas.
Our was quite uneventful and we have decided to go away somewhere next year, using Christmas gift money towards it. Very much looking forward to it as DS will be old enough to enjoy it and DD will be walking.

She's sleeping quite well at the mo. Last feed and in bed at 9ish then feeds around 2 and 5am, then back to sleep till at least 9am, sometimes later.
I should probably try to bring it all forward and get her sleeping 7-7 but I try not to push them with routines. I feel that when they make their own they can't fight it!

She's seriously solid now and looks like she's trying to roll over. I'm going to miss these newborn times. Sad

ballroomblitz · 28/12/2012 01:31

Hope you all had a lovely first Christmas with your Sept babies. I unfortunately didn't get to spend mine with dd as ds was admitted into hospital with his chest a couple of days before and was still in Christmas day Xmas Sad Was all upset at mising dd's first Christmas. There was no way I'd let her into the ward though. Soo many babies with brionchiolitis but sure, she doesn't know any difference if it's Christmas or not.

Here's to 2013 being a better year for the ballroom household.

ThedementedPenguin · 28/12/2012 05:33

Oh ballroom I hope your ds is better now, your right your dd won't remember so you can make next year great but it doesn't stop your feelings. I do hope your ds is better now or at least a lot better and well on the mend.

wherearemyshoes that sounds like a great idea, although I'm such a home bird when it comes to Christmas that I couldn't leave, I can't even imagine going to my Oh's parents for Christmas, I made him come to my mums as that's the only place it feels like Christmas to me.

We also had a very quiet Christmas but it was great. My mum had Herbie last night so we could go out with friends. By 11 I was so drunk all I wanted was my bed, we left by 12.20 and just curled up on soda with Chinese then I fell asleep :) I regret going out I should have stayed in and had a long nights sleep like I wanted.

Herbie got a Euan the dreamsheep for Christmas, how I survived this long without I have no idea. It is amazing. We put him down any time between 8-10 and now he sleeps through until 5, up for a feed and then sleeps until 8/9. He went nearly 9 hours between feeds there. :) hopefully not be long until I get a full nights sleep. Although I am thinking ill go to bed earlier tomorrow night to get full benefit of it.

Only unexpected thing that happened which I was fully unprepared for was us running out of heating oil just before Christmas. Our house is freezing so we have stayed away as much as possible. Thankfully it is arriving in the morning. I cannot wait.

Away to get some more sleep now :)
