September 2012 babies - warmest welcome!

Here's the new thread for September babies fresh from the oven!

I'm a first time mum and I'm struggling with breast feeding at the moment, my 6-day old DS always seems to be hungry (a feed every 2-3 hours, each lasting roughly an hour), and when he's hungry he's very aggressive towards my nipple Sad it really hurts! Any tips out there? And how often do you feed your baby and for how long? how do you teach your baby to be gentle on the nipples? Envy

Good luck to those still waiting for their babies to come out! Will be watching out for more baby news!

woohoo I got a 6 hour stretch of sleep last night and feel like a new woman having had naps no longer than 2 hours the past 6 weeks! However I did wake up with boobs hard as rocks and in a pool of my own leaked milk, oh it's all so unglamourous! Has anyone's boobs calmed down yet? I am still leaking, squirting and spraying everywhere and getting sick of yet more laundry as well as feeling wet and cold all the time.

DS will not sleep in the day unless someone is holding him so I've given in and am pottering round carrying him in the Baby Bjorn and he is snoozing happily

cjbk1 · 13/11/2012 12:53

As far as we can tell Ava had her last feed at 11pm then didn't wake up until 6am! unless I blanked out a night feed? which is probably why I'm flying high today with all the sleep! I'm sure it's just a fluke etc but still happy, OTOH my boobs wernt that full when we woke up I don't seem to hav much milk this time but conversely I still get forceful letdown when I do feed and she gets a wet face lol x

shoeprincess2 · 13/11/2012 13:16

I woke up in my own breastmilk this morning too!! Lovely Blush

Smallgreenone · 13/11/2012 16:24

I feel the same macaroons I know he can do a night with only one get up so why doesn't he do t every night Hmm
Advice from the hv about him waking every hour past 3am is to put him down awake at every nap, bedtime etc as he might be just using me to get back to sleep. Will try it tonight but really doubt it's going to work and although I will eventually do controlled crying if I need to he's too small for it at the moment so I might just have to accept that this is the way my nights are for the next few months Sad

Macaroons · 13/11/2012 18:05

nightmare - 11.30 - 5.30 then 6.30 - 10 am sounds really good to me! I'd be over the moon is DS sleeps those hours!!

Hello everyone. We had our 6 week check today, and all went well, except for the fact that the nurses scales weighed me half a stone heavier than at home! It's put me in a bit mood- I've been making a real effort with regards to eating sensibly and getting more exercise, but now I feel like a complete blob! I also got a telling-off for admitting to unprotected sex (although only a couple of times since the bleeding stopped), yet the leaflet I was given on the post-natal ward stated that it is fine to rely on breastfeeding as a form of contraception as long as baby is ebf, under 6 months, and periods have not returned etc. I am now on cerazette, with a view to getting sterilised in the not-to-distant future (although it makes me sad thinking about it).

With regards to babies' sleeping patterns, I honestly think that it does depend on the baby (having had four!). DDs 1 & 3 would wake every couple of hours through the night, and take about half an hour to feed. It was exhausting. DD3 is still a nightmare at night now, and it getting on for 6. DD2 slept through from 7 weeks, and has always liked going to bed early and staying put til the morning. Lola has been easy at night (so far!), until birth, the last couple of nights she's gone from 11pm-5am, then back to sleep until everyone gets up at about 7.15.

DD2 has a teacher training day on Thursday, so I'm going to attempt to take her and Lola on the train to Birmingham (about a 20 minute journey). The German Christmas market will have started, and I'll attempt to do some Christmas shopping.

Smallgreenone · 14/11/2012 04:15

Ooooh moomin I love the German market! Not been to the Birmingham one but the Manchester one is great. It's an hour away from us so a special trip is going to be needed soon, I have in my diary that it starts this weekend.
Baby small has been amazon tonight, must have heard the hv and I talking about him! 1st feed since 11 so if he can just stay put after this until morning.............

Smallgreenone · 14/11/2012 04:17

Re excersise I only have 4lbs left to go before I am pre pregnancy weight but half a stone to be where I want to. Even though 4lbs isn't loads my body still is definitely not what it was. I'm supposed to be going to buggyfit tomorrow if I can get up and sorted in time and if it isn't raining.

Loup23 · 14/11/2012 14:42

Well dine small 4lbs is great , think I've got 10 or so to go but definitely feel like I have wider hips and ribs. Damn the FO scales moomin go by yours! Thanks for the comments re all your children being different, I do definitely think that is the case just hard to compare when u only have one!

small and macaroons another one hear that has a baby who can go 5 or 6 hours and has done but is now back to 11ish, 2-3ish and 6 during the night..... Oh well it will happen one day....Wink

Baby loup did a 2 hour kip over lunch in bed on her own - that's progress! X

Macaroons · 15/11/2012 05:33

Loup and smallgreenone - I've got about 10 pounds to go as well, I'm eating lots because of bf and too busy / lazy to do any work out, will take a while to shift...

Last feed last night was 2300, DH bottle fed DA at 330 and he only took about 60ml, and he's up again at 5, so only 1.5 hr between feed! I wonder if that's because he doesn't like bottle...he's sucking by breast now...

OP posts:
Macaroons · 15/11/2012 05:34

I meant DS not DA. Typo sorry

Moominsummermadness · 15/11/2012 08:59

According to MY scales, I've also got 10lb to go! My Wii fit agrees, so I've decided that the nurses scales are wrong. Going to try to steer clear of tempting cakes etc when out shopping today.

Lola has slept from 11-6.15 for 2 night now! Really hoping that this pattern remains for a while. The annoying thing is that I still keep waking up anyway!

Rachel130690 · 15/11/2012 09:18

Hello everyone, glad to see people are getting more sleep. My Ds is now going to sleep regularly at 11 and not getting up until 6. Last night he went from 10-6.25. Was up for about 20 mins and is still asleep now :)

I weigh less now than before I was pregnant (had put on weight working in a call centre) but I'm still not happy, my hips and legs are wider so I don't fit anything in my wardrobe, all skirts are way too tight :( also my stomach is pudgy still. So I'm going to try working on those areas. Although I can't be bothered.

It also doesn't help that when people come to visit they bring cakes and buns. I have a massive pile of biscuits :( which are too nice to not eat. Think I might give them away.

We got a very unusual baby present last night, a set of expensive in car DVD players. Which will be great when he's older but I suppose it means I can use them until then :) Think its possibly one of the best gifts we got.

In Northern Ireland it's called the continental market. It starts on Sat and I can't wait to go down at some point. However I was at it last year and its no place for a pram, so I'll probably use a sling, but have never used one before so I'll be on asking for advice before hand :)

shoeprincess2 · 15/11/2012 10:12

Morning ladies! Anyone feeling a bit blah at the moment? Despite Ollie joining the ranks of a lot of your LOs and doing 5-6 hr stretches at night, I just seem to have lost my get up angd go (it literally has got up and gone). I was the one who mentioned about exercise support weeks ago, but I'm afraid I haven't been bothered to do anything. Well, a few tokens sit ups here and there. Rachel- same here. I weigh less than before pregnancy but everything is wider. So, all my lovely jeans that I was looking forward to wearing, are still hanging in the wardrobe. I refuse to buy anything else, as I hate clothes shopping (much prefer buying perfume and makeup and stuff for the boys) and it seems a waste when I have so much stuff in the wardrobe. Ho hum. Might have to consider doing some high impact exercising...

Have a lovely weekend ladies. It's £12 of Boots advantage points today for every £50 spent, so i shall do some Christmas gift shopping!

NightmareWalking · 15/11/2012 15:09

On weight: something I've been thinking about for a while but don't want to sound 'preachy' Blush iyswim?

At 8 st 9, I weigh 10lb less than I did when I got pregnant (some of you may remember I really struggled to gain weight during my pregnancy due to morning sickness). My whole life I've struggled with body image, really badly, but now, I can look at myself and feel proud, even of the bits I hate, because my body did this amazing thing! Produced & now nourishes my gorgeous DD! and I feel much happier than I ever have. Does anyone else feel like that?

Macaroons · 15/11/2012 16:50

Someone mentioned controlled crying, i think it was Smallgreenone - I was fed up with rocking and shhh-ing him to nap, usually it takes over half and hour, and then he woke up in five minutes! tried to rock and shhh to get him to nap but its then approaching the next feeding so DS didn't nap much. so I bite the bullet and tried controlled crying yesterday. It's heartbreaking hearing DS cry but I think it's for the better over the long term, as he will sleep for longer. Yesterday it took 30 minutes for him to calm down himself and he slept for an hour, today it took less than 10 minutes and he slept for more than an hour too! In my opinion it's worth trying, although DS is only 2 month old which is younger than their recommended age, but now he naps for longer so I'm glad I tried! Here's a link to super nannys page. www.jofrost.com/controlled-timed-crying-technique-ctct/

It's lovely you feel like that nightmare and you should be proud, we all should. I'm afraid though I'm too vain and I hate my tummy and want my tones flat one back, I hate my c section scar, I hate my boobs and want them to be back to pre-pregnancy size as they are still massive and I think so ugly, I hate my bum and my thighs!!! So basically I have a LOT of work to do!!! Thank god it's winter and I don't have to strip down to a bikini anytime soon!!

Moominsummermadness · 15/11/2012 17:01

nightmare, I would feel like that if I weighed 8 stone 9lb! Grin No, seriously though, I do feel proud of what my body has done, but on the other hand just feel uncomfortable the size I am now. I suffered from severe anorexia for 8 years, am thankfully recovered, but still feel a need to be slim. With my other pregnancies, the weight just fell off, but it's not the same this time around. I have a wardrobe full of size 8-10 clothes that I WILL fit into again one day.

I managed Birmingham, I had Lola in a baby carrier. Good job, as the train was packed so there would have been no room for the pushchair. Nobody offered us a seat, so we had to stand for 25 minutes. My shoulders are killing! We had a good day out, although the baby facilities in the Bullring are a bit crap. I took Lola to the baby facilities changing room to feed her, but there wasn't a chair so I stood leaning against the sink to feed her!

Micha54178 · 15/11/2012 17:07

Oh dear, now I really feel sad! Ds1 is six weeks, still only sleeps for maximum 3 hours at night. Weight wise I'm two stone over my prep regnant weight (pregnancy craving for curry didn't help).
Bf little one and he feeds about every hour and half!! Oh my, I've got a way to go on all fronts!!

MakeTeaNotWar · 15/11/2012 18:08

Oh don't worry micha I am exactly the same and while more sleep would be nice, am making the most of these gorgeous snuggly newborn weeks as they pass by all too fast & DS is my last baby Sad

Micha54178 · 15/11/2012 19:48

Thanks maketea, I'm having an off few days at the moment Sad
Ds is also my last one, wish I could let go a bit and enjoy. I'm on maternity leave with ds1 (6weeks) and dd2 (4 years). Really should be enjoying it more and not feeling quite to shite!!! Angry

WhereAreMyShoes · 15/11/2012 22:31

Hi everyone, I have been keeping up but too lazy to post.
All is well, although I'm dreading the hip scan next week and what the outcome might be. I am being positive but the doubts will always be there till I know what's what.
Rachel I've been using a sling when out as it's easier to put DS in the main part of the buggy and baby in the sling. He hates the back seat and screams blue murder makes a fuss when I don't let him walk.
I've got a Babasling off eBay and although it took a few goes for her to get used to it she likes it now and it keeps her nice and warm. I put it on and stick my coat over the top then she's against my clothes rather than coat so gets my warmth, and makes me boil!
It gives me a bit of a backache the next day but that's probably because I don't use it enough. It's very comfy while it's on.

I've got about 4lbs to go to get to my pre-pregnancy weight but hope to lose a bit more as that weight was Christmas time and I was being a pig.
I feel quite accepting of my body now. Moreso than after DS. I teetered on the edge of an eating disorder when younger and have learnt to deal with the idea that bodies are supposed to be all different. If my easy to maintain weight makes me a size 14, so be it.
I would much rather spend my life at ease than making myself ill trying to be skinny.
I'm no longer that 7 stone teenager (thank god!)

I've done no exercise yet other than sporadic pf exercises. I hate moving!
I like sitting.
I'm still waiting for my 6 week check (having it next week, at 8 weeks) so still using that as an excuse.

leelteloo · 16/11/2012 03:18

I'm afraid I've still got a v long way to go to regain my figure and no incentive to do it right now. Euan has had a cold and not been sleeping well for 10 days now and I've been so tired. I'm hoping he's on the mend now though as he's just done 9 till 2.30 in his mose basket. That's the longest he's gone between a feed in ages. Cold seems to have made him more hungry.
My period came today and I've been irrationally thinking about ttc! What's that l about Hmm bloody hormones!

funchum8am · 16/11/2012 03:39

I am soooi jealous of everyone's lovely sleeping babies! Babyfunch goes usually 1 hour 20 between night wakings. Last night she was fully awake at 2 and I never got her properly to sleep again. She is only 6 weeks though so I hope things are going to improve.

Rachel see if there is a sling library near you - mine has been a godsend. I have a stretchy wrap which is lovely and warm and snuggly, and a mei tai which is cooler. Both are very comfy.

MadMonkeys · 16/11/2012 08:38

Rachel i love my moby wrap. It took a few attempts to be happy with getting it on but it id very comfy and dd loves it. She always drops off to sleep in a few mins in it.

Dd has a cough again so we had an unsettled night. So much for bf babies getting fewer colds etc! I've not even weighed myself yet. This is my last baby so i have the rest of my life to get back into shape...
