September 2012 babies - warmest welcome!

Here's the new thread for September babies fresh from the oven!

I'm a first time mum and I'm struggling with breast feeding at the moment, my 6-day old DS always seems to be hungry (a feed every 2-3 hours, each lasting roughly an hour), and when he's hungry he's very aggressive towards my nipple Sad it really hurts! Any tips out there? And how often do you feed your baby and for how long? how do you teach your baby to be gentle on the nipples? Envy

Good luck to those still waiting for their babies to come out! Will be watching out for more baby news!

ballroom your last paragraph is basically my life right now. (Although I've ate all my matchsticks) how's baby b doing?

Glad to hear that your able to express some milk ballroom oh I was being nosy there and I see your from Northern Ireland, I live in Armagh (city) not sure where you live but is it close to this?

Herbie is doing good, has settled down again but he fights his sleep all the time, so by the time he gets over he's exhausted.

smallgreenone he will have 3-4 naps a day. Although I'm not 100% sure exactly as I don't really count or think about it. I'll try to remember to keep an eye over next few days and see how he gets on.

ballroomblitz · 24/10/2012 00:03

I've ate all the matchsticks too. Two boxes of them, although ds helped. I'm just outside Belfast Rachel. Pre-dc I used to do a lot of management cover down round that area and I think vaguely remember working in Armagh a day or two.

Glad to hear Herbie has settled a bit again. I know you do wonder why they fight sleep so much, then get overtired and cranky. Turns into a bit of a vicious circle. B is doing great thanks. Does nothing more than pretty much sleep and eat. Such a placid and content wee thing compared to the screaming, non-sleeping, colicy baby ds was. Keep half expecting her to morph into a nightmare as it just seems too easy??

HorridHeffalumpsWickedWoozles · 24/10/2012 00:08

Hi all I've missed the thread for a day or two, will read back over missed posts while up feeding tonight. How is everyone and the little ones getting on? I'm quite looking forward to getting signed off at 6 week check as would like to start something gentle like Pilates or yoga with my mum as she's just joined our local gym and there seems to be lots of 'normal' classes (ie not ones for the super fit that I would just embarrass myself in!).

We got an invite to a kids Halloween party today, quite looking forward to it haven't done the fancy dress thing for years! DD1 has a pumpkin dress & DD2 has a cute little babygro with spooks on, just need something suitably tacky for me :)

Smallgreenone · 24/10/2012 02:33

Baby small has 3 naps but he fights them and then is overtired at bed time although he has just slept 7 until 2 so perhaps I should leave him as he is napwise as that is his longest sleep ever.
heff we are going to a Halloween party too- baby small has a pumpkin outfit and I can't wait to get him in it. He looks ridiculous!!

Moominsummermadness · 24/10/2012 10:05

So much for me going to the breastfeeding cafe yesterday! I'd had a bad night with Lola- she wouldn't settle for three and a half hours, so I just couldn't get organised enough to be ready once I'd got the older DDs ready for school and fed. It worked out ok though, as my mum dropped in unexpectedly. We did get out for a walk a bit later, despite the damp,.depressing weather!

Lola is still sleeping and waking randomly throughout the day. It does make it tricky getting things done. I want to buy a decent sling.

ballroom, I'm in England, but my sister lives just outside Belfast. I'm hoping to go and visit fairly soon. It's just a pain that Ryanair have stopped flying from here to Belfast!

ballroomblitz · 24/10/2012 18:44

I would like to do pilates or yoga too Heff . I'm not one for high cardio exercise and would like to do something to strengthen (the flabby tummy) and tone. A friend of mine does pole exercise which I think could be a laugh. Now sure I would find the time though as it's on evenings.

Have you been to Belfast before Moomin ? I have to say our wee country gets a bad press at times but I love it. I lived abroad for a while and never thought I would miss home as much as I did. I would really like to get a decent sling too but would need to try them first as I have problems with my shoulder and neck at times. Only after checking out the sling library and raging to find I missed a meet that was on today just a few miles up the road.

HorridHeffalumpsWickedWoozles · 24/10/2012 19:23

ballroom I've pole danced for about 8 years (excepting the last year where I was exceptionally lazy pregnant) its fantastic exercise and really good fun, if you get the opportunity and time then give it a go.

Rachel130690 · 24/10/2012 20:10

Moomin there's always next time. I try not to stress if I miss anything or don't get round to it. I'd prefer the cuddle my baby boy :)

Okay I completely jinxed myself I have been feeling rotten all day :( my throat is so so sore and my head is killing me. Also I'm very cold. I just want to sleep. Hopefully it won't stay long.

Oh horrid I would love to do that, I think there's a class close(Ish) to me I might enquire about it. Although it will prob be a good while before I get to it. Don't want to do it too soon plus would need to check with physio. The only thing is I heard you have to compete and do things in front of loads of people? Is that true?

This may be TMI but re: post birth bleeding. Herbie will be 6 weeks on Friday, around a week or so ago I basically stopped bleeding. I even started using panty liners instead of pads just incase I bleed a bit. Two days ago I started bleeding again its bright red and has lots of bits in it (on pad). When I go to the toilet the water is always red. When I cough or sneeze I can feel blood coming out, and have to change pad every hour and a half. I thought it might of been a period but I've had no cramps. Has this happened to anyone else? I'm planning in going to docs tomorrow but thought I'd ask here first.?

Moominsummermadness · 24/10/2012 21:03

Ballroom, I've been over a few times since sis got married over there 7 years ago, and love it. Haven't seen much outside of Belfast, whiteabbey (where sister lives) and ballymena (where I stayed when she got married as wedding was there) though. I even bought my wedding dress in Belfast! I've had the idea of incorporating a visit to sister with our holiday next year, and hiring a cottage somewhere in NI.

Rachel, I had something similar with DD3, it turned out to be my periods returning, despite ebf. It was annoying to say the least! I've been worrying about my own lochia today, as although it hadn't stopped, it was very slight and brown (worry if tmi!). Now, it's a bit heavier and red again. DD is 4 weeks. I might see how it goes, and mention at my post natal check if no better.

Heff, I'd love to do pole dancing- no classes around here that I know of though. As soon as Lola is more predictable with her feeds, I'm going to start going to exercise classes once or twice a week. There are classes during the day when older Dds would be at school, and due to DH working evening shifts, he could look after Lola. Got my eye on 'legs, bums and tums'. Basically all the areas where I need some help!

leelteloo · 24/10/2012 22:13

Ah Rachel, sorry to hear you've got the sore throat now Sad. I am finally feeling a bit better after 7 days of being poorly and as if I was constantly swallowing glass. I also got my high lights done today after nearly 12 weeks and horror roots. It's so nice to have better hair even though my thighs, bum and tum need that class desperately.
I am in my sixth week and still bleeding when I exert my self and have had it very red and bit cloty, even recently, thought it was my period but it wasn't. Was told that bleeding at this stage is completely normal.
Wishing you all a sleep filled night.

HorridHeffalumpsWickedWoozles · 25/10/2012 00:59

rachel usually the classes have about 6-8 girls in and they are all at the same level as you and usually all feeling as nervous as you too. I've made some fantastic friends through pole & found it really confidence boosting. Most pole schools have 3 or 4 poles so you're not doing it in front of everyone, and competing is tonnes of fun but definitely not compulsory.

Re the bleeding mine was almost gone until today when it came back bright red, I think it's quite normal but as with anything if you're concerned ask the GP just in case. On a similar point does anyone know if its ok to use a tampax for an hour or so, DD1 has swimming lessons once a week and I don't want her to miss out but there's no one else to take her, for a regular period I wouldn't worry & would just use tampax but I don't know if you have to be more careful with lochia bleeding? Sorry for random slightly yuk question Blush

Get well soon to everyone with colds.

HorridHeffalumpsWickedWoozles · 26/10/2012 10:10

Oh no have I killed the thread?! [hblush]

shoeprincess2 · 26/10/2012 10:27

I hope not. I still lurk round this thread, though have been a bit rubbish at posting this week. I don't know about using tampons. You say yours has come back bright red- maybe your first period? Hope everyone is recuperating from their colds. My exercise regime has been poor this week- oh well, start again next week!

Rachel130690 · 26/10/2012 10:38

Nope hopefully thread not dead. I assume everyone is in baby mode and hasn't had a chance.

So went to doctors and she said it is probably my periods returning. I assumed when that happened I'd have period pains and be very crampy but no not a thing. (Which in a way is good) she gave me tablets to reduce the bleeding as there is lots. Which are painful on the stomach but I shall continue.

I also have antibiotics to take for my sickness :( I've turned into a right drug taker from this baby, between iron tablets, antibiotics paracetamol, tablets to reduce bleeding and anti inflammatory tablets. Never seem to be done taking them.

Horrid you have left me thinking about pole fitness. I think I will ring place and enquire about it. I think it would be amazing to do and I gonna get my sisters to come too. Just need to wait until I see physio again before I start anything.

Okay away shopping for a baby Halloween costume as Herbie wants to go trick or treating :) it's not for me I swear

cjbk1 · 26/10/2012 13:15

hope all well, I'm not! I feel ill ill ill! Ava's got oral thrush like dd1 did and we'v started treatment mon pm but the stabbing pains in boobs continue and I feel terribly 'fluey' and shivery and I can't get warm...I had this with dd1 but can't remember if it was at the same time as the oral thrush or not...must go to tesco before school run and after that I'm staying put...problem is we'v got much on over the wknd Sad

ballroomblitz · 26/10/2012 22:27

Are you going to continue with the pole then Heff ? Yes I think I'll try to give it a go if I can arrange the babysitters. The friend that does it seems to think I should be ok at it as I did gymnastics for years. It's something different to do rather than the traditional exercise classes.

Good to hear you spoke to the doctor re bleeding Rachel . Periods can change post dc as in they may hurt more or less. Mine where pretty much the same but a new thing for me was I could feel ovulation pain after having ds. I knew what side I was ovulating from and when which was weird (but handy). Sorry to hear you are feeling so bad.

I am but a mere stones throw from Whiteabbey Moomin . The next town over with the big castle :) My uncle does that every year. Comes from Wales and stays here with the family in a cottage, vists the relatives and travels round a bit.

Sounds a bit like mastitis cjbk though I have no experience of oral thrush so wouldn't know how that feels.

Think the germs have invaded the ballroom household too. I've had horrible sinus headache for a couple of days and sore throat, ds is coughing away and dd has been sneezing.

leelteloo · 26/10/2012 22:51

Sorry to hear people are coming down with bugs Sad. Mine have finally left and I no longer feel like i have broken glass in my throat, not a moment too soon. Grin
I am a relatively new mn user and don't get involved in lots of threads: but I posted on one yesterday because a mother was posting about losing her son to cot death recently. I felt very sad for her, especially as my son was snoring cutely in his cot. Today the thread has gone??? Does that mean the person was a fake? And if that's true, why would anyone make up stuff like that? I'm quite upset by it.

ballroomblitz · 27/10/2012 07:13

I read that thread too leelteloo. So so sad :( Would the thread have been moved to bereavement and re-named? Maybe it was just too painful for the poster and they asked to get it removed?

Moominsummermadness · 27/10/2012 09:02

Happy weekend everyone!

Sorry to hear that you are not feeling well ballroom and cjbk1. I've been feeling weird on and off all week, but it's not really come out as anything, iyswim. I think I'm just a bit run down. Have got a sore throat this morning though.

Ballroom, I know where you are mean! You do live very near to dsis!

leetleloo, as much as I had the thought of anyone losing a child, I really hope that somebody wouldn't lie about something so awful.

MIL has bought Lola the cutest Halloween costume. It's a cat outfit-essentially a black valour sleepsuit with a hood with cat face and ears, and has a detachable tail. We're going to a party on Wednesday, so she'll be in fancy dress for the first time aged just 5 weeks!

Moominsummermadness · 27/10/2012 09:07

correction-velour! Silly phone! Also should point out that the cat's face is on the hood- we aren't putting a mask on her little face! [hshock]

HorridHeffalumpsWickedWoozles · 27/10/2012 11:11

I hope so ballroom, I did a bit after DD1 but never got round to putting my pole back up so this time I'm going to be more committed, I'd love to get back to competing again but that's a long long way off yet! Gymnastics will probably give you a really good basis, a lot of pole is sort of aerial gymnastics anyway. Hope you and rachel do give it a go, it's one of the most fun ways to keep fit :)

Sorry to hear there are still poorly mums around, cj hope you're feeling better soon and it doesn't turn into mastitis/thrush.

We've got Halloween party tonight then a princess and superhero party tomorrow. DD1 is going in her superman pjs but I don't know what to get for the baby to wear, going to scout the shops this afternoon if I can brave the cold.

Moominsummermadness · 27/10/2012 11:32

If it helps, heff, both ASDA and Tesco do baby Halloween outfits in 0-3 months!

WhereAreMyShoes · 27/10/2012 12:47

We have a poorly household. We've all shared a cold and the baby and I were the last to get it.
And my MOT has run out. At least that means I have the perfect excuse for staying in.
DS is being kept amused with his cars and some tiny bits if torn paper that I'm blowing in the air like confetti. The floor needs hoovering anyway so I don't care about the mess!
Bleugh
And the trick or treaters can bugger off. It upsets my dogs and wakes my kids. [miserable old cow]

Rachel130690 · 27/10/2012 14:17

Whereare it's the same in my house. Me and Herbs were the last to get it and we're dosed pretty bad. But I'm struggling through it. Doesn't help that the tablets I was given to reduce bleeding are horrible and hurt my stomach so so much :( but they work so that's the main thing.

Heff I got a pumpkin outfit for Herbie yesterday from Tesco, it's so cute. They had some cute wee outfits. I also bought him a penguin outfit for Christmas :) and they were only a fiver each. So don't break the bank.

Once I get the okay from physio I am going to enquire about pole fitness. As i think I'd enjoy it.

So we are going to a BBQ tonight. Crazy times but at least it's at a hall so Herbie will be okay as we can sit inside at the bar to keep warm.

Smallgreenone · 27/10/2012 19:06

Hi all, we've got a tesco pumpkin outfit for our little one. Party is next Friday, can't wait!! I am going as a big mummy pumpkin and he's a little small one, sure he will kill me when he's older!!!
I think baby has caught my cold Sad he's incredibly snuffly, has watery eyes that look a bit red round the rims and he sneezes quite a bit and is GROUCHY!! Poor little man, I feel awful that I gave it to him. Apparently though as he's breast fed he'll get my antibodies and tell go quite quickly? Hope so.
Sorry to hear there are suffering mummy's out there too.
Am just putting ds to sleep and dreading trick or treaters as the doorbell will wake ds I am sure.
