right..next question. Last night we tried her on cows milk for her last bottle...(she does have a lactose intollerance BUT apparently can outgrow this by one so I have slowly introduced milk and dairy products etc) anyhow, she wasn't keen from a cup BUT did end up having it from her bottle so I think the milk issue is not an issue iykwim...
BUT I forgot to say, the 2 bottles she has each day is like a fight to get her to have it...the morning milk is mostly given in her cereal BUT the night one we end up giving up...I thought babies enjoyed the last warm milk bottle and the closeness....not dd..!! LOL..! Sooooooooo, do I continue this struggle to see what she will have OR do I start phasing it out...???? Thing is I know she needs around a pint of milk a day BUT if she is fighting NOT to have it from a botle or a cup surely it's not worth it..??

Any ideas..?

Also forgot to say to ym about routines:
dd has dinner at around 4/5pm, then a bath soon after at around 5/5.30pm so she is ready for dh when he gets home. He plays with her and then gives her a bottle before bed...bottle is around 7pm and bed is usually moments later. HTH. Best thing though is to do whats suits you etc. DD must like the routine we have as she never complains about it and always seems to go to bed without any problem..??
xx

Ooh that's a tricky one. I don't think you can force her to have the bottle if she really doesn't want it. I'd keep offering it but give her lots of dairy food to compensate. That's all you can do really. As long as she has some calcium, she'll be fine. Ds lives on fromage frais, carrots and mars bars and he's perfectly healthy! :-))

SHHHH · 27/05/2006 18:07

lol logic..! Grin. Wish I lived on a diet of choc..Grin..!!!!!! Sadly I would also be 5 stone heavier..!!!!

Will see how dd goes. Like you said, as long as she is healthy whats the issue..?? She has a varied diet imo so fingers crossed. Anyhow I am sure she will get to an age when she will only eat what she deems ok..!

i found that my dd drinks more milk now she is drinking out of her beaker. she would only drink 2 oz of her night time bottle before, but at 8 months when she moved onto her beaker for all her drinks ( her choice NOT mine) she drinks more. we have it out on the coffee table and she drinks it while she is dried from the bath and then helps herself to it while she has her last play and then the final oz or 2 is given on my lap as a cuddle before going up. much less stress all round!!! hth

SHHHH · 29/05/2006 14:55

thats a good idea amyjo..not so much focus is placed on it then I suppose, and we all know what happens when we leave our lo's to their own devices..Grin. SUCCESS..!!!

OK - paranoid and knackered mother questions alert!

Anyone else's babies waking at 5:30 for the day? Shock

How much (quantity-wise) do your babies eat at each meal? Think this one has the appetite of a little bird. She is quite dinky still (20lb???) and will eat most stuff (home-made chicken korma yesterday [impressed emoticon]) but about 2 tablespoons worth???

Is also now refusing yogurts which is a pita.

logic · 31/05/2006 10:12

Oh it is much easier when they drink from beakers :-) Less bottles to wash. All I meant was that they do the beaker thing at different speeds! I wish ds would have a hot drink occasionally though. Dd has started saying "boo" when she wants a bottle which is very cute.

Dd eats like a horse, tinker! Honestly, it is scary. Yesterday she ate: big bowl of shreddies for breakfast, some of ds' frosties and a bottle of formula. Lunch was raisins, scrambled egg, toast, half a slice of ham, water and a peach. Tea was a fishfinger and steamed veg, half a jar of banana and cookie crumble. Then she ate ds' portion of veg. Then she had some of my curry and rice and naan bread. Then she had 120grams of ready brek and a bottle before bed. Then she woke at 2am sticking her fingers down her throat shouting "boo". Drained 8 oz. I hope she is going through a temporary growing spurt or she is going to be huge.

northstar · 31/05/2006 10:23

Hi Tinker, yep, dd woke progressively earlier by 5 or 10 mins for about a month until we reached 5.30. Now we shove a double duvet over and around the curtain pole and tuck it in at the sides and it worked from day 1 - I was amazed! She dropped right back to her 7 - 7.30am waking. The other tip which worked for me as she was never a fan of milk drinks was a milky pudding immediately before bed and her pot of custard at bedtime is our life-saver both for filling her tummy at night and keeping her filled till morning.
Logic - you are so lucky, dd is eating less and less. She has a man-size bowl of porridge and yoghurt for breakfast then it's all downhill from there.

logic · 31/05/2006 13:10

hi northstar, I know I am lucky with her eating. It's such a novelty to me to see a child eat! I have to stop myself from offering her extra food just to watch her eat it. lol. Alas, ds is the opposite. He is nearly 4 and yet 2 spoonfuls per meal is about average for him. Dd is nearly the same weight as him.

SHHHH · 31/05/2006 13:59

gosh dd is a good eater as well..Listening to everyone I don't think you realise until it's pointed out..!!
Ok here goes....

Breakfast: 1 Weetabix with approx 7 oz of milk
Half a banana
A piece of toast

Lunch: A huge bowl of fruit...strawberries/raspberries/blueberries/cherries/grapes.
A sandwich usually made from a piece of bread with either tuna or cheese etc
A yogurt
A biscuit/rice cake etc

Dinner: A big bowl of fruit again
last night was 5 mini fish fingers
Half a jacket potato
Carrots & Brocolli
A yoghurt

While dh & I have dinner dd usually sits in her high chair with us and we give her something like: Meat or cheese or breadstick etc.

Then it's a 4oz bottle before bed. She sleeps from 7pm-7/7.30am usually and doesn't wake inbetween..I am [shocked] at logic's dd waking for food..!!! And I thought dd was a huge eater..!! Wink.

BTW dd does also eat inbetween..ie she will have "elevenses" with me..!! Wink.

OP posts:
logic · 31/05/2006 17:38

We put the baby in the high chair at the dinner table too so that she can get used to it. It's how she helped herself to my dinner yesterday. She doesn't usually wake up in the night for food, it just happens once or twice every few weeks when she is going through a spurt. Oh yes elevenses. Blush It was at about this age that ds stopped eating though which makes me a bit nervous!

Tinker · 31/05/2006 18:00

Feel a bit better reading that. On a good day, she's not far off what Shhh's daughter is having. Loves pasta and risotto. logic - yours sounds amazing. Smile. But on a bad day (today being one) she can eat hardly anything - just a few spoonfuls at each "meal". However, whenever this has happened in the past, seem to notice a new tooth from somewhere. Maybe. Trying to convince myself. Anyway, had her weighed today (for car seat reasons!) and she's doing fine so paranoia over. Just have a little bird. Bummer that she's off yogurt. I don't like it though so don't blame her really. But she did polish off a rather large portion of bread and butter pudding the other day - Anton Mossiman (sp?) recipe, no less - granddad is a foodie. Grin

northstar - will try that. Room is ridiculously light from 5 onwards. Yesterday she napped for over 3 hours from 9 am to make up. Today = just 1 hour...

SHHHH · 31/05/2006 19:40

thing is tinker is that I find dd does her own thing so to speak. Some days it seems everything I offer her goes on the floor and other days she eats loads!!!
If your dd has gone off yoghurts how about trying her with rice pudding..?? I usually give dd the adult stuff (ambrosia) not sure if its ok but she seems to love it!! Makes me happier as well as at least I know she's getting dairy in other forms when she's not keen on milk.

I know it's easier said but it's best not stressing too much, dd is our 1st but for some reason I seem to be quite chilled about the whole process. Like you say, you may have a little bird on your hands..Grin. At least you don't have a huge weight to carry around Wink.

Logic, we have had dd sat with us at the table for quite a while now. DH & I got sick of fighting dd off while we were eating !! Now she can't get so close..!! Tee Hee.!! I think it's a good idea as I was brought up eating at a dinner table and I think it's good way forward, teaches us to talk as a family and to not be ruled by the tv (or idiots lantern as my sis calls it..!). But thats just imo.!!

BTW while I remember dd is now on cows milk for both feeds and sems to enjoy it more than formula. She is even managing to have the full 7oz in the morning and 4 oz at night. Slowly I may start to increase the night feed....I have also but the "beaker" issue on the back burner as I think it may have been too many changes at once iykwim. Will probably try it again in a few weeks time.

Hope all are ok..???

OP posts:
Tinker · 01/06/2006 11:59

Thanks shhhh. Rice pudding is a very good idea, will try that one. Might try and make one and then freeze it. I'm not so much stressed just grrrring about teh effort doesn't equal appreciation equation Grin. I'm normally at work during teh day so don't have too worry too much about this and then don't care too much if she just snacks at teatime.

Re beakers/cups etc. Am still bfing this one so haven't bothered with bottles but with my first one she still have a bottle at bedtime until she was past 3. Am sure I should use a Blush here but I don't care. It comforted her, wasn't in public. Just trying to say I wouldn't worry too much at this stage.

LittleB · 01/06/2006 21:21

Hello, Haven't been of for a while as dh and dd both had horrible virus, dd had a fever 4 nights in a row and at times during the day, took her to the docs but nothing to do other than give her calpol and keep her cool. They're both better now though. The hardest thing was leaving her when I went to work Sad.
dd is almost walking too, has taken a couple of steps so almost there. She's also gradually being phased onto cows milk. I gave her 50/50 formula/cows milk which she was fine with, but won't drink pure cows milk so we're phasing it in more slowly, down to 1/3 formula now. I'm also trying to gradually introduce her milk in a cup but she won't have it yet although she's happy to drink water and dilute fruit juice from a cup. DD is a big eater too, and is over 24lbs, but is long too, so isn't too podgy! She does have huge cheeks though, and she has chubby wrists!
She has liners on her curtains, I bought them from Argos, definitely worth trying as she sleeps to about 7am and the earlier mornings haven't affected her routine.
The funniest things she says are 'postmmm pat' (she loves postman pat and his 'brmm brmm') and 'bu...hmmm' (which is button - she loves buttons on her clothes!). Its very sweet when she learns new words.
I can't believe its June now, most of them are 1 now, its gone by so quickly.
Hope you and babies are all well.

logic · 02/06/2006 11:45

We use blackout blinds on all our windows because it's just too light otherwise. You can get them in loads of colours.

Are you using a booster seat at the dining table, shhh? We've found that dd is now able to sit in one strapped in.

northstar · 02/06/2006 16:25

mmm, the booster seats are great arent they - apart from when they can push their feet against the table, rocking back the whole chair and giving me a heart attack Shock

Tinker · 02/06/2006 16:47

Did the blackout linings for the last 2 nights - 1st night woke at 5:20, 2nd night (last night) woke before 5:00 Shock. Has so far today napped for about 1/2 hour in total.

logic · 02/06/2006 19:35

You must be worn out, tinker. Sad Have you got any family near by who can take them off your hands for the night?

SHHHH · 02/06/2006 23:31

aww feel sorry for you tinker Sad. Hope it improves but sorry I don't have any suggestions...

Logic we sit dd in her high chair, we haven't used a booster seat as tbh I hadb't thought of one and also I think she would still be quite low dow...?? It would be nice though to have her "close" to the table iykwim. The highchair tray gets in the way...!!!

Tinker · 03/06/2006 10:27

Ah, thanks logic and shhhh. Yesterday was a bit odd since we were at a wedding so too much going on. No, couldn't palm her off on family really since still being fed in teh night, she would be absolutely hysterical if woke up elsewhere. I could live with that Wink but not sure her grandma could. Thanks for letting me vent anyway.

SHHHH · 03/06/2006 13:37

omg....................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

Im pregnant....!!!! DH & I have just done a test and it come back +. Im a mixture of eelings..excited as we so want more babies BUT now we have a positive reading it's kind of scary as there is no going back..Given our mc history we are not getting to excited iykwim but enough.
Those of you with 2 or more or even booge..how did you feel with the 2nd pregnancy..? Did you feel concerned and worried. I feel a bit bad for dd as it's as though we are replacing her with a her model ikywim...I don't want to miss out on her next 1st steps etc and talking etc and 1st things she will do now for life.
Anyone reasure me..????? Things are a long way off yet but it worries me....

OP posts:
logic · 03/06/2006 16:23

Congratulations!!! That's wonderful. They will be so close in age that they'll be good friends. I worried a lot less with the 2nd, mostly because I didn't have time to sit down and dwell. I warn you, you do look pregnant a lot faster! :-)

SHHHH · 03/06/2006 17:49

the looking pregant thing is so worrying..!!! I have still got a stone to loose from being pregnant with dd. How much weight did you put on 2nd time around..? More or less than 1st..?? I want to do my best to limit weight gain as I know know how hard it is to loose....

BTW I feel a bit chilled now..I have spoken to dh and he's put my mind at ease...Got a long way to go but fingers crossed things go well. I have had 4 hours to get used to the idea Wink..!!!

OP posts:
Maddison · 03/06/2006 19:03

WOW!!! Congratulations Shhhh..I'm very Envy but soo happy for you!!!

I didn't worry as much with DS2 as I did with DS1.. was a lot more relaxed about things even though unlike Logic I did have time to think about things (I didn't work from being 16 weeks pg) Ditto what Logic says.. I did have a bump much earlier the second time around!!

Congrats again, have you worked out your edd yet?
