Pleased to hear it aethel

Glad you've talked it out figgy, hopefully in the future Scotland will work out. Re: the mum sound, minimopsy males it top when upset or ill and so does my sister's baba, which leads me to surmise that it's a sound they make when distressed, then we go to them and so it eventually becomes associated with us. When you think about it, in a lot of languages the word for mother begins with a ma sound ...

AWomanCalledHorse · 10/09/2012 16:21

Glad you've had a talk Figgy, hope the weekend away helps & good luck with it all.

Hope BOi is feeling better soon!
Glad he's feeling better aethel!

we've been ttc #2 since DS was a few weeks old Blush AF came today so we're just counting down the months since we can go to GP & get conception help. Feel like such a failure about not being able to even get pg at a 'very' fertile time (post pg), DH wants another one, but can't understand me being upset about it all. Having a few big macs later to feel better

DSM, hope you're having a shag-tastic honeymoon! St Lucia sounds lovely (Dbro ex is from there so he spent 6 months living over there) hope you're having fun exploiring!

No new posts from FairyBayLeaf either anywhere on MN, really hope her DS is progressing well (don't think she'll get a PM email notification if I PM her, will she?)..her DS is just over a fortnight away from a year old!

CherryBlossom27 · 10/09/2012 17:06

Happy news! My work have agreed to me working part time :-)

Can anyone explain to me how childcare vouchers work?

As I understand it, you can get £243 a months deducted directly from your salary by your employers and this gets paid into a childcare voucher account, which you then use as payment/part payment for childcare. On the amount deducted from your salary you don't pay NI, do you pay any tax?

seven77 · 10/09/2012 17:07

Can't believe fairy's DS is nearly a year old, I do hope he's ok and had no lasting problems from being so early. If she's still registered on here even though she no longer posts I'd have thought she should still receive a PM. Do let us know if you hear anything.

aethel so glad it's not croup!

figgy glad you've talked things through. I know it's not the same but could you afford more flights back home to visit family, travel back home for Christmas etc as a compromise?

AWCH (((hug))) sorry you've still had no luck ttc :(. We also started straight away, it was 6 months before I conceived then had my early mc. It's now been nearly 3 months and it's taken this long for me to be fertile again. At this rate we won't have the small age gap we wanted, and with DS MD progressing as he gets older the longer it takes the more unfair it seems on him to have more.

seven77 · 10/09/2012 17:08

That's great news cherry! No idea about childcare vouchers though Blush.

Figgygal · 10/09/2012 17:25

seven I already go home 5-6 times a year so lucky in that respect but have to drive Birmingham now as direct flights now almost £300 a go so have petrol, parking and flights at least don't pay for DS yet.

cherry u don't pay tax on the vouchers either they r great we save £80 a month with them.

awch how long did it take to conceive last time if u don't mind me asking I'm sure it will happen for you soon.......and for seven

Kri5ty · 10/09/2012 18:59

I'm back!!!!!

I've been away far too long to catch up so
I'm going to do my best to keep up now!

AWomanCalledHorse · 10/09/2012 19:08

Messaged Fairy, hope she gets it...and doesn't think I'm a weirdo!
Couldn't think of much to say.

Cherry, yay part time! I don't think you pay tax.

We've gone for KFC instead of McD's...thanks for the hug seven, have you got a time limit as to when you'll think it's not a good idea to ttc anymore? Hope you get a sticky bfp soon. x
We're taking a break from ttc for Oct/Nov/Dec & we're not sure if we can afford for me to not work for a whole extra year so not sure yet if we'll resume in Jan. Throwing all our (hopefully fertile) eggs into bonking lots this month!
Figgy, we weren't trying with DS...so I've got no idea if he was just a fluke!

Kri5ty · 10/09/2012 19:21

News in brief....

OH has been very up and down, at the point where I'm thinking we'd be better apart, but we've just bought a house

LO is now dummy free :)
Still has no teeth
Past week has become fussy eating and won't touch food

I may be made redundant in Dec, however I'm setting up a tiny talk franchise

NorthernChinchilla · 10/09/2012 19:45

Hello Kri5ty! Really good to hear from you...sounds like it's a slightly conflicting time for you given that first sentence(!) but how's the house? And how is DS getting on? Am I right in thinking it was you that had the pregnancy vertigo thingy, I was telling someone about it just the other day...

That's a good idea AWCH, I remember her DS turning up around the end of September (wasn't he Albert?) and do often wonder how they're all getting on. Sorry about AF; you're still within the bounds of it being entirely normal, but it sounds like (unsurprisingly) it's rather disheartening; but keep up with the bedroom or wherever! antics and fingers crossed. For you too seven Smile

Great for you Cherry, we (should) hear tomorrow about DP's request, so I'm taking your success as a good sign.

Rather knackered here; got about an hour and a half before being woken by the world's most violent, but short-lived, thunderstorm. Then awake for a bit, before drifting off and then DS woke us again. Got maybe a couple of hours after that before DS felt that 5am was a good time to wake, and spent 1.5 hours climbing over me, dozing, and generally preventing me sleeping.
Then went for a conference all day in London, urgh Sad...

But at least DS's half day at nursery went well, apart from the fact that he wouldn't eat and barely drank... I think it's because he's too excited Confused! First full day tomorrow...

Figgygal · 10/09/2012 19:45

Welcome back kri5ty sorry hear of another dh related tale of trouble!! Glad lo is doing well.

Tiny talk/baby signing is lacking around here lots of baby singing though I don't think I'd be child friendly enough for it though. What do u have to do to set up?

While we on subject of those missing in action what happened to tyel she changed her name and put in her flex request but disappeared after that?

Kri5ty · 10/09/2012 20:20

northern yup twas me! Still no idea why it happened, but it went after birth! Do you know someone with it ?
The house is good, been 2 months and still have no curtains though lol

figgy hugs I briefly read about you too :(
I'm tone deaf so I doubt I'll pass the phone interview which I'm having in 15 mins!
Basically you need experience of a class, apply, phone interview and info day . Thena day of training.

The teacher who does mine is stopping as she has to move, so I've decided to buy it off her (or at least try)

CherryBlossom27 · 10/09/2012 20:43

Aha! I knew someone on here would know :)

Much as I'll feel guilty putting DS in a nursery or with a childminder, I think overall it will be best as I don't think I'm very good as a stay at home mum & wife :) I love DS to bits, but I do find myself getting stressed and a bit impatient sometimes. I also find I miss earning money and work gossip, plus it's a bit lonely on mat leave sometimes although I have made a couple of really good friends since having DS.

Northern I hope your DP's request is agreed, fingers crossed!

Will try to catch up better tomorrow, DH wants to iPad!

hawthers · 10/09/2012 21:11

How much boob pain is normal when giving up bf? I last fed f on Tuesday last week after gradually winding down and haven't been engorged since then but my right boob is v tender on the underside. I've swerved mastitis up until now but wonder if it could be the start if that. I feel fine and there is no redness but it fecking hurts!

seven77 · 10/09/2012 21:21

I'd forgotten about tyel! Blush. Also scooby hasn't been on for a long while, though I expect she's enjoying quality time with DH. I have no idea how long the armed services get at home before they're sent off again.

Waves to kristy, another one for the still toothless club. Welcome back, hope things improve soon with DP.

Thanks northern, hope it's good news tomorrow!

AWCH thanks to you too, we haven't set a limit but I think we've got around another 18 months before we need to re-evaluate things. DD only took 4 months but then DS took over 2 years so who knows. DS loves babies though, I asked him after Eva was born how many more babies we should have, he said 10! :o He really wants a baby brother and keeps asking if there's a baby in my tummy :(

Figgygal · 11/09/2012 06:52

Oh dear 2 hysterical screaming fits before midnight last night calpol teething powders and gel were deployed not cool!!

Quite week at work this week thank god!!

Hope u all had better nights than I

Aethelfleda · 11/09/2012 12:39

Afternoon!

No teeth this end either! Well done cherry for achieving part-time nirvana, I must say it has worked well for me, but we kmow not everyone is lucky enough to get the option.

Being back at work is great as I feel like "myself" again (if that makes sense). dS is a happy snotbucket as his cold comes out, we've had two t-shirt changes this morming due to sneezesplosions...

I spoke briefly to tyel recently, she's OK but is snowed under with work so taking a break from the thread. I'm sure at some point she will pootle back and say hi.

Hope all you ladies who are about and not posting are doing Ok. My diet's gone to hell in a handbasket this week but I hope all the house related rushing arOund will stop me putting too much weight back on!

Oops, better go, DS wants his milk NOOOOOWWW....

Kri5ty · 11/09/2012 13:52

How's the LO today figgy? Better than last night?

Aethel any hobnobs on that tray??!

Work have agreed to flexible working request of 36 hours over 3 days.. but I guess we'll see what happens with our jobs in Dec.

Kitty5824 · 11/09/2012 14:30

Hi all. As always, have missed too much to name check, but commiserations to those with other half issues.

When you think it's your first baby then you realise you already had one 'tis hard GrinWink

I've had an awesome day. Not.

Rubbish night - can't really blame DS he appears to be getting 4 of his top teeth through together. Ouch!

Swimming lesson - went really well except DS got VERY excited to be back at the pool and swallowed lots of it and was then sick. In the pool. Twice. Then again when drying him off. And again on the way back to the car. Very much wish I hadn't given him mashed banana mixed with pureed plums after his weetabix.

Got home to a notification from Asda that there are now part time positions available. This is good. The boring arse online application process is not. Yawn.

And now I'm just back from having a smear test. And whilst not exactly in pain, I am uncomfortable. No more anxiety about stripping off in front of the nurse though. Jeans and pants whipped off, onto the bed, heels to bum and dropped my knees. She just smiled and said "this is your first smear since having the baby then?" Hmm

Right, must straighten hair - my new "do" looks interesting after swimming. Imagine what Velma from Scooby-Doo would look like if she her hair had gone all frizzy. Attractive Wink

MrsDeterminedandSpecialMum · 11/09/2012 16:48

Just checking in to say Hi.

Went on a Jet-Ski full throttle yesterday and lived to tell the tale without any broken bones or missing limbs Grin

LittleMissFlustered · 11/09/2012 17:57

Evening!

Question: Have anybody your sprogs had allergy testing? Doctor has mentioned there might an allergy involved with octoboy's chesty shenanigans. So I'm going to ring the GP and see how much grump I get:o I was just wondering if anyone had experience:)

OP posts:
Aethelfleda · 11/09/2012 19:29

'lo!

lmf, it's very regional what facilities are available for allergy testing: some places the GP has direct access but most of the time it will be done through a paediatric clinic referral. So ask your GP if Octoboy can be referred and it's possible they will say "oh, we can do that", but more lilely you'll get referred in. Do say that the hospital doctor recommended the allergy testing and why. Most places use skin patch testing for sensitivity to somethings and blood tests (RAST test) for others. It would be great if you at least had an idea of what to avoid and sometimes there are preventative treatments that can help....

Good luck with the job hunt kitty!

Hope poorly/teething LOs are improving...

MissRee · 11/09/2012 19:39

Daddy just made the mistake of sticking a finger down the back of freya's nappy to see if she had pooped... she had Grin

LittleMissFlustered · 11/09/2012 19:43

Thanks Aethel. I'll pop in and ask for an appointment with the appropriate bid tomorrow:)

Hope everyone is having better week. I'm off for another early night I think, n'night!

NorthernChinchilla · 11/09/2012 19:47

Thank Bob we had a better night last night (sorry yours was grim figgy), so all feeling human for DP's return to work and DS's first full day at nursery.
DP got a bit damp round the eyes, but said he felt better when he'd called the nursery around midday; DS was having a fine time, and seems to have settled in really easily. Amusingly, he turned down the baby food they gave him yesterday; on our suggestion, they gave him slightly mashed 'normal' stuff, and yup, the mexican sausage pie disappeared as did everything else on his plate!

Oinklet.

DP's not heard either way, but still fingers X'd. I'm the same cherry and aethel, I could never give up my job, and it is very much a part of me. DP would cheerfully never step foot in an office again however- everyone's different!

That's a fantastically, projectile-y grim experience Kitty, wow!

Off to go and metaphorically soothe a brow after the first day back...whilst he cooks my dinner Wink
