Hello all- thought I'd watch the game last night with a couple of beers as a treat to cheer us up mistake. Tho' at least DP was happy, given he supports the Blue side, or the Abu Dhabi All-Stars as I now refer to them Grin

Thanks re. sympathies for the job stuff- ACAS have been really good, and have confirmed that DP's employer's haven't followed guidelines/law in what they've done so far; nursery have been great and really flexible about times and payments; sadly union have been a bit crap and unhelpful and unresponsive.

Problem we have is that DP's manager organised tomorrow's meeting with him last week, before we knew anything was afoot- we only got the letter Saturday. His union can't provide anyone to accompany him for a couple of weeks, so that's delaying us. His manager hasn't responded to DP's request for reasons, nor his e-mail to say he'll need to re-arrange the meeting.

He's got a degree seven, and works in admin, so he could resign and look for something else, but we feel we just can't risk it at the moment. Totally stuck....

How's it going for you Oi, are you feeling insecure as the main wage earner or has something happened to make you worry?

Anyhow, just wanted to send huge sympathies to BJR, that's awful (but a very well described image, made me feel quite boaky Wink). Was he ill or was it just one of those stealth-titana-poos they're capable of? And how're you and DP feeling now? And hope you're feeling a bit better too AWCH.

Hope Peppa Pig world wasn't the seventh circle of hell too bad aethel, but I'm sure it was worth it for the DDs, bet they loved every minute!

DS has four teeth, can crawl and today properly pulled himself up to standing, on everything. I'm just mentally unprepared for all of this- as I was a late starter (did bugger all except sit surrounded by cushions and slightly concerned parents and smile til 17 months) I was expecting DS to be the same, but he's growing uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuup Confused

Figgygal · 21/08/2012 20:07

Is my baby really the only one who still just sits and shows no interest in pulling self up or crawling? Or any teeth?

Feel like figgyboy is falling behind almost Sad

KateM77 · 21/08/2012 20:25

figgy in a word: no! DS just sits, has no interest in crawling or pulling up on anything. He's never rolled either. He does have two teeth though! DD was just the same, but didn't get her first tooth until 8.5 months. She started bum shuffling at 11 months and walked at 16 months. She's incredibly advanced with her language skills, just took longer to get there on the physical things than her little friends. But she did get there. That's why I have no concerns about DS, and you shouldn't about figgyboy either, he's just perfect the way he is Grin and it makes life easier because you know they'll be just where you left them, and you don't have to childproof anything

aethelfleda · 21/08/2012 20:28

We survived! Peppa Pig World was treated like a military operation and I share the strategy with you as anyone southern is likely to have to run this gauntlet at some point. Yes, the DDs loved it, including a very sweet moment when DD1 whispered to me in a ride queue that she still really loved Peppa but didn't want to say so in case DD2 thought her a baby : awwww!
The good news is that it's part of a larger family-owned theme park ,so not Merlin-owned, though it has similarities), so our strategy after reading lots of reviews on the web was to a)arrive early (9.30, meant we parked straight away) b) pre-bought tickets on the web the day before (saved £11 and avoided queue at entrance) and c) headed straight to peppa at 10am opening, stayed there til 12 and then legged it to all the non-Peppa stuff which was much less busy. Max queue was 20 mins all day (we left anything that looked long). The girls are now v tired but really enjoyed it.

Oh no DSM, that's awful. Can you cook and re-freeze any of it That has defrosted? (obviously that only works for raw meat but might save a bit of it?)

Not exact but I usually spend £60 a week at supermarket though we do top up in between for little things and am a sucker for offers at the co-op. at the moment buying formula is hiking the bill, am so glad the reuseable nappies are working as they save us getting more than the odd pack of back-up disposables.

aethelfleda · 21/08/2012 20:31

Oh and other tip for peppa is to take a sunsuit/swimsuit and towel/change of clothes as there's two water play areas that are lovely. And a great dino bouncy castle and some stonking play equipment in the main park.
I'm just relieved we got out with brain intact!

AWomanCalledHorse · 21/08/2012 20:31

Figgy, even if figgyboy doesn't start crawling or teething for another 4 months, by the time they start school all our DC will be doing all the same stuff, you've just got a very chilled baby.
Try not to worry about it! x

DS stood up by himself earlier. It scared him, he shouted at me & then fell on his arse. So graceful.
Thanks for asking Northen, feeling a bit better, hope Dr doesn't call tomorrow...annoyed that it's happened during my ov which means no bfp for me this month.
Really hope everything works out for you & Mr.Northen.

Air, had a nose at all your piccies, Air is such a gorgeous little man (love his cheeky grin!).

DSM, how annoying, hope you manage to get freezer restocked soon (we live off frozen food when DS is a nightmare)!
I bought a 'normal' dress for my wedding as I didn't want to have to store or donate a gorgeous wedding dress! Store it somewhere you can easily pull it out and wear it around the house! Grin

aethelfleda · 21/08/2012 20:35

I agree figgy, it's always a topic of conversation when our LO's start to do things but in the long run they all get round to it: my DDs didn't sit up til almost 10 months and all my friends' babies were doing so, it's just gojng at the rate that works for them. No teeth or even close this end, still gummy grinning and drooling for England though!

LittleMissFlustered · 21/08/2012 20:39

Octoboy sits if you sit him, but other than that is entirely happy for his minions siblings to do everything else for him:o

OP posts:
NorthernChinchilla · 21/08/2012 21:13

As I say figgy, I did nothing bar sit til 17 months- no crawling, no pulling up, maybe the odd word, certainly no walking, dunno about teeth, and I promise you I'm a fully functioningish individual now Grin. I wish DS were the same as we've got to go and buy up half the internet/Mothercare trying to make the house safe- it's on three levels and there's no door into the kitchen, amongst other things Confused

Figgyboy is, and will be, absolutely fine and he's also a bum-shuffler, so he is mobile, just has his own way of doing it! I know how you feel a bit, DS was about the last to smile on here and I felt like it was my fault and I hadn't smiled at him enough or something.....

Our DS has minions too LMF, me and DP know our place Wink

Your wee man looks a star air, really happy!

Glad you survived aethel, you deserve a medal and a reward! A G&T surely?

Good that you're feeling a bit better AWCH, but sorry about the naff timing.

The sofa calls for flopping...

MissRee · 21/08/2012 21:25

Figgy we have no teeth, crawling or pulling up here either! She's a whizz in her walker though as the bruises on my ankles prove

I'm actually hoping the teeth are slow - we've discovered she has lip tie as well as tongue tie now but her appointment with the paediatrician isn't until 7 October. I wonder whether a dentist could tell us if it would cause problems with top teeth - the lip tie is quite thick and you can follow the line of it right back along her palette when she has her head back/mouth open Sad

aethelfleda · 21/08/2012 21:44

Arg, want G&T but am still on the wretched fitnesspal thing and it says I have no calories left due to the enormous burgers we ate on the way home from our trip out. Never mind, tea doesn't count. More tea!

seven77 · 21/08/2012 22:42

I wish Eva sat still! We've still got no teeth though. figgy it's just another way in which our babies are all different, I think they all advance in different areas first. DS, my friends boy and my nephew are all around the same age. My nephew sat at 4 months and walked at 10 months, my friends boy was slower but was speaking in full sentences by 18 months, DS was the slowest but I'm convinced he's always been the cleverest :o. Someone (I think dsm said about their LO clapping a few weeks ago, Eva isn't even close, she just thinks its funny.

aethel I'm amazed by your determination and good behaviour!

OiMissus · 21/08/2012 23:36

Hi all, BOi crawls, pulls himself up easily to standing, can climb up stairs. And can climb up onto the sofa using DH as a step, and is keen to let go and see what happens, he says da da da da and mummuma and has 2 teeth. And none of it is down to us. We both work full time and childcare is all over the place. He leads, we support and help along. ... You're probably doing just the same as us and by 18 months no one will tell any difference.
My friend's DS is 14 months old, hates being on his tummy, has no interest in movement and can't say a word - she's a sahm. - and so is there to provide 100% encouragement.
dsm we went to a cottage in Wales for 1 wk after the wedding, I took the wedding dress determined to wear it whilst flipping sausages on a BBQ. It never happened. Sad
I blush at our weekly food spend. We spend at least £25 pw on booze alone.Blush
awch you asked for names that we coildn't use. I wanted "carter" for a boy, but DH wouldn't have it. Fear of playground "Get Carter". (but I loved ER, and it seems like a perfectly reasonable name to me!) then again, I liked "Harper".
figgy I have a note saying wtf but can't remember what it was about.
northern yep, insecure because I'm the wage earner. I'd never have worried before, but after mat leave you always suspect that the male bosses aren't perhaps as supportive as previously. I think it's unfounded. -I'm in a nice hotel at the minute at an exec meeting and have felt no grounds for insecurity. Tis paranoia.
So yep, am at Carden park. Tis v nice. Have 2 nites away from home, so I'd better bloody sleep while I have the opportunity. Love to you all. And love to DH snd BOi. Sad

LittleMissFlustered · 22/08/2012 01:33

Octoboy slept 19:30-01:00. I spent all that time chatting online to a friend >_

mopsytop · 22/08/2012 07:35

figgy minim can't crawl! she has 2 bottom teeth and 4 top ones on the way (only white spots so far but look like they'll be through soon), she can sit unaided and roll and say baba, gaga, dada, wawa, rara, mama. she gets on her front and looks like she wants to crawl but doesn't move. I think you said figgyboy can bum shuffle? If so, he's a lot more mobile than minim! She won't even put weight on her legs when I hold her up, never mind standing! Totally uninterested! My nephew who's 2 months younger has done all of the above before she did! And can stand supported since only about 2 months. They're all different! My mum said my (only) brother did everything way before us girls as a baby but then we caught up. None of us girls walked until well over one.

CherryBlossom27 · 22/08/2012 09:10

Figgy don't worry my friends baby is 8 months today and he can't sit unaided yet although he does a very good job of rolling around! I think as everyone else has said they all do stuff at different times but they all get there.

DS isn't much of a talker, he shouts Ooooo! Arrhhh! And babble noises is yayayaya and row row row (as in have an argument, not row the boat). No dada or mama yet :( I'm working on him though :o

BeeMyBaby · 22/08/2012 13:59

Figgy I'm only super excited about DD2s movements as DD1 didnt crawl till 11 months and didn't walk till 17 months, but saying that you can't tell a difference between DD1 and children of the same age now.

DeterminedandSpecialMum · 22/08/2012 18:25

Sky is 8 months old today and can now pull herself up to standing Smile

LittleMissFlustered · 22/08/2012 18:51

Octoboy is in the PINK room tonight. Testing plan is testy. He is currently unable to tear his eyes away from the radioactive hue of the walls. Retinal burn is a real possibility... :o

OP posts:
AWomanCalledHorse · 22/08/2012 19:25

Oooh LMF, good plan! If Octoboy is blinded by pink, he can't tell when night or day is & he'll sleep all the time Grin

We have been controlled crying for the last few nights (2mins, 5mins, 10mins...etc) we didn't need to go on longer than 10mins as he puts the dummy in himself & sleeps! Hurrah!!! Grin

DSM, yay Sky! DS is trying 'walking' on all fours, it's going well but he really wants to be walking!

NorthernChinchilla · 22/08/2012 19:39

Feel the burn, baby.... Is the pink a deliberate effort owing to an older spawn's requirements, or are you just a very avant-garde decorator LMF Grin?

I feel for you Oi; just being the main wage earner, never mind the sole one, is quite enough stress. 'Tis crap. I suppose we've all got extra worries now with children. And how funny- I really liked the name 'Harper' for a boy when I was pregnant with DS, but then bloody Posh bloody Spice named her daughter that and I had to junk it.

And aethel, I'm sure a small G&T with diet tonic must be almost negative calories! Treat yourself at the weekend at least.

Hope the tie lip is not causing Freya any discomfort MissRee?

DP is still trying to get a date for the meeting with his boss, but trying to tie down the union rep, the boss, and the boss' boss on a day when I can take time off work to look after DS is proving difficult.

Oh, and DS went to the clinic today and has shot up to the 91st centile at 22lb 4oz/10.l kilos, Bob knows why. He doesn't look that much bigger, and he's not fat, he just seems...um....physically dense? Sure he'll burn it all off tho.

Figgygal · 22/08/2012 19:51

I know I'm being daft he chatters constantly these days, rolls if he wants, sits, shuffles and walks around holding hands. He's 8 mo today!!
Have spent day working from home it's been lovely lots of extra boy time as its DHs day with him tho they went off to PIL most of the day, got lots done wish I could do it every week but no chance!!

seven77 · 22/08/2012 20:41

figgy sounds like you've had a good day, not worth attempting to do it every week?

northern hope DP manages to get his meeting and gets something sorted soon. I know exactly what you mean about feeling more physically dense, I sometimes think Eva just feels more solid.

AWCH glad the controlled crying is working, why is it the things which work most effectively are the things which seem the meanest? :( we've recently started tackling DS occasional reluctance to eat. He gets nothing 'nice' if he doesn't eat a meal, no biscuits, no sweets. If he's desperately hungry because he hasn't eaten he gets fruit. He cried last week when my friends DS was allowed sweets but he (DS) hadn't eaten his lunch. A week on and not only is he eating more but there's no fuss at mealtimes now, he just gets on with it which is an added bonus!

DS loved London, especially big Ben and tower bridge. I'm knackered though, now waiting for Chinese.

MissRee · 22/08/2012 20:42

I don't think it causes her discomfort Northern but I'm not sure how I would know if it is! She's still on number 2 teats (for 1 month olds!) and whenever I've tried her on the next size up, she coughs, splutters and just dribbles milk everywhere - not sure if it's connected though Hmm

Is it Friday yet???
