Have borrowed Needles list, which I'll start here, please feel free to add your details to it. I'm rubbish at list keeping, and hopefully Needles will be along to keep it updated :o

Glad I'm not the only one ham! And yes its sticky and once dried bloody stinks of off milk!

maiboo my midwife told me if you over do it, it can make you bleed more again so being more active is probably what's done it. I don't really bleed at night but do in the day and put that to running around more.

MiniPopsMum2012 · 14/09/2012 13:55

Hey everyone, sorry fell of thread due to tiredness and moving = lack of posting time, and being on FB more (sorry non-FBers :().

Big congrats to all the new babies :) Will try and have a read through of posts and catch up.

So great to see this thread so busy, just had a skim of some posts and can tick a few things off on my baby-bingo card... crying - tick, rubbish sleep - tick, noisy baby - tick, explosive poo - tick, sicky baby - tick Grin

Minipop was 5kg at his last weigh in 2 weeks ago, is 6 weeks corrected age on Monday, so has caught up size wise despite being so premature. Bless him!

Loislane78 · 14/09/2012 14:32

pint, what happens if you just keep her on one boob for the entire feed rather than swapping after 20 mins? Does your boob feel empty/soft before you switch?

She might be slow to feed and not getting the fatty milk at the back if so. Maybe try that and if she's still ravenous offer the other one just to top up and then start with that boob the next feed. I'm no expert and you might wanna check with a pro! This is what I'm doing (I only offer one unless its a serious cluster feed at night) and the bf counsellor said that was fine at this age. Guess its different for everyone though.

HTH :)

hamncheese · 14/09/2012 16:22

Yeah like lois said pint try putting her back on the same side. I've been doing this to try and avoid too much fore milk as there is more lactose in it which can make colic worse. Also hind milk should fill her more and make her more sleepy to get more than 1 hour between feeds.

Nightfall1983 · 14/09/2012 17:08

So todays positive is that I tried out some nipple shields and managed to get Theo suckling again after 3 days of refusing, this is great news! It was only for a few mins a time, and I don't think he was really latched correctly but it was nice to feel him on. Hopefully this means we've still got a chance of at least mix-feeding in the future...

susiegrapevine · 14/09/2012 23:18

Sorry pint totally missed your bf question but yeah green poo means too much fore milk and I never swap sides for a feed unless crazy cluster feeding. I made that mistake too with ds1 and got the green poo! Its old advice to tell you to swap sides my mum was told to only give 10 mins on each side! No wonder her milk dried up! Oh and don't forget your boobs never really empty they just make more as baby feed but it can make the other boob a bit explosive next time you feed is all!

Nightfall1983 · 15/09/2012 00:21

Can I join the FB group? How? X

hamncheese · 15/09/2012 09:07

Pm frilly nightfall

fairtradelu · 15/09/2012 11:04

Hi folks! It's nice to find you all again. I've just posted the following on the ante natal thread. I'll spend the next days/hours reading through this threa to catch up and will be back interacting again shortly.

Isabelle Ayu was born at 12:14 pm on 10/9/12, weighing 8lb 12oz, by emergency C-section after v long natural labour followed by epidural and induction and then section due to my body's inability to dilate past 8 cm.

It was a bit of a slog and very bizarre to be told I needed section after all the hours of contractions and induction but the end result is all that matters and I can at least say I tried everything!

geekette · 15/09/2012 12:12

Welcome Isabelle! Sorry you went all the nine yards FaireTrade! But you have your beauty now!

Ah susie the beauty of oversupply. it is the reason why i am afraid of feeding in public as I deal with it with a muslin under the boob which isn't feeding. This means both boobs need to be out.
I sleep and feed with muslins at all angles to catch dripping milk.
Luckily no squirts here (for now)
I heard I can collect the excess milk with a medela shell. I am yet to investigate.

Pint Green poo can be excess foremilk or mother's malnutrition. so if you are eating well yourself just stop swapping her too often. Babe's recover really quick :)

pintofmilk · 15/09/2012 13:15

Hi ladies, thanks for all your ideas/suggestions re the BF. I thought that she was feeding long enough on one side before I swapped over but I tried what you all suggested and last night she slept for a whole 3 hours!! Smile Ok she was asleep on my chest and not in her moses basket, but hey I feel so much better today and there was no green poo last night! THANK-YOU ALL Thanks

geekette · 15/09/2012 14:50

Your tip worked a treat ham! She slept off in her wrap today and I got stuff done! Result!

Whiteangel · 15/09/2012 16:00

Hi, just had a catch up on everything. Had my sis staying since Wed and she's been a saint! Also, we've given in and let Rowan have a dummy. Don't know why I feel so guilty as it obviously makes him happy but feel like I'm cheating somehow! He's still feeding like a deranged monster, crying and wriggling. Can't decide if it is the speed of the flow or wind. Sometimes he feeds like an angel, other times he is hysterical!
Can I ask for some opinions? My next door neighbour had twins in June. Due to tongue ties and other feeding issues they are still smaller than Rowan. She NFS almost full time but they are not putting on enough weight. She has been forced to supplement with formula but isn't happy about it. I've seen today on FB that she has posted on a breast feeding page looking for milk donnors so she can supplement with breast milk. I've not tried expressing since I was in hospital to help my milk come in but am going to try today to get the hang before Rowan is oldenough to try a bottle and was going to freeze the results. If I manage a reasonable amount should I offer it to her for the twins or is that weird? All opinions welcome!

Loislane78 · 15/09/2012 19:24

I'd never heard of b-milk donors whiteangel until the hospital gave me a leaflet about it on the postnatal ward. They screen all the milk (not that I'm suggesting you need that!) before storing/using. With it being anonymous, the amount and how long you do it for is more flexible.

I think its a lovely gesture :) Depends on the relationship you have with your neighbour and her expectations of a donor. It might be time consuming/ tiring for you so I'd just really think about it before committing, it becoming too much and you having to tell her. She also needs it for twins so thats a lot of milk even mix feeding just a couple with b-milk. GL :)

Whiteangel · 15/09/2012 21:27

Had a go at expressing with a manual pump after a feed and got 50ml in 10mins. I understand now why Rowan is putting on weight so well! Going to have a chat with her and see how much she would want and how often. Would be great to help the boys gain weight and give her some time off. Hopefully they will all be able to play together when a bit older.

MiniPopsMum2012 · 15/09/2012 21:34

Congrats Lu, such a lovely name. Sorry you had a tough time though, hope you're recovering well.

Whiteangel that sounds like a really lovely thing to do, they had EBM donors at the hospital when MP was in NICU, but my DP wouldn't let me use them, so we had to top up with formula.

MiniPopsMum2012 · 15/09/2012 21:36

Miaboo I was told bleeding for about 7-8 weeks and mine lasted quite a while, and did increase/go red if I did too much, as well, but as you say when there's stuff to be done there's not much that can be done. Hope you do find time to put feed up :)

tashaw28 · 15/09/2012 21:53

Also still bleeding here at 3 weeks 3 days, ca'nt remember how long it goes on for but it does go brown, red, brown, red etc!

White that sounds so lovely of you but just be aware that BM is specific to the age of your child so unless the twins are the same age as Rowan it may not be fullfilling their needs.

MiniPopsMum2012 · 15/09/2012 21:55

Gnomi our baby monitor says our bedroom is 23c, but I'm sure it's colder than that (it's really not that warm in there), and I try to put MiniPop wrapped in just one cellular blanket, but he always kicks his way out of it and then wakes up grumbling because he's cold (even though monitor says it's too warm), so I have to put another blanket over him. I do worry about him getting too warm though, but he likes being wrapped up snugly, as he jumps alot in his sleep so wakes himself up other wise Confused

Are the sleeping blankets any good? Are they like the grow bag things (if that's what they're called? Blush)

We've just got blankets at the moment, but I read they're not ideal either.

susiegrapevine · 15/09/2012 22:16

Ah geek am fine to feed in public just have to use breast pads day and night. I learn't last time that you have to use the boots ultra slim ones in the 36 pack. These are much larger in circumference than most breat pads and seem to have the same sort of stuff in as nappies to absorb the excess so don't leak out that much so you should give it a go in public. I always tuck a muslin under the breast I am feeding from to catch the squirts and excess that jacob spits out cos its all too much. Oh yeah and see if you have a local bf group so you can practice public feeding but doing where everyone has there boobs out. Plus take a jacket so if you do get any leaks then you can cover them over at least its the time of year you can start wearing one. I once had to run home from town with a handbag covering my sopping top as had knelt down to get something out of the pram and acidentally squeezed my boob (with ds1) and have been know with both of them now to go to the loos to use the hand dryer to quickly dry off small wet patches! Its all fun!

white when jacob fusses at the boob it is normally trapped wind then I have a mini war with him as he does not wanna be burped and throws himself about but when I burp him he feels so much better and goes back to normal. Sometimes it is milk flowing too fast tho. Your bf donor thing sounds like a lovely thing to do and you are right to ask all the questions before you commit.

Congrats fairtrade!!

Went to my mates 30th today and it was fab so chilled and ds1 had a great time with some other toddlers that were there. Hope everyone else had a good saturday.

pimt glad the feeding is going better.

tashaw28 · 15/09/2012 22:23

My hair started falling out already this morning SadSadSad only 3 weeks old and it's a long path back to good hair Sad

susiegrapevine · 15/09/2012 22:23

Oh and minipop the grow bags are the brand name of baby sleeping bags and they are the best things as they cannot kick them off. You can get cheap ones in asda and tk maxx and matalan and the like. Just be careful with your lo as he was premmy most of them have a minimum weight for your baby on them so he might not be big enough yet to go in one. Ds1 was not big enought to start with and he was just a small baby at 5lb 12 and not premmy so double check before you buy. You will need at least 2 cos of accidents and the like.

MrsMigginslovespies · 15/09/2012 22:54

Also still bleeding here too at 3 weeks + 2 days and in fact, am really sore and crampy tonight. Went for a long-ish walk tonight with PIL + DH (longest have been out for sonce baby was born) and felt tired anyway, so maybe that's it.

I've found that Lansinoh breast pads are quite good, plus also good value on amazon.

I can't wait to start using our Grobags as they look so comfy and cosy, but he's too small yet to go in them. But maybe in a month when it's colder I'll crack them open.

Not a whole lot to report other than am still feeing like a fiend, still exhausted and still besotted with my baby boy. Who has got spots suddenly. Anyone else?!!

Off to bed to let DH do late shift! xx

geekette · 15/09/2012 23:04

Ha ha, yeah Susie. I have run away from the city center with a muslin round my front as milk was really all over me...

I am getting the hang of public feeding but I do need practice.

Gingerelle · 16/09/2012 00:57

miggins we are VERY spotty here, all over forehead and now also neck and chest which health visitor said could happen. All normal apparently and just a result of hormones and new skin meeting air/other new things.

LO been in a feeding frenzy this eve, started around 9 and fed almost continuously and still going!! She'll be 4 weeks old in about 8 mins so think she's cramming in as much '3 week growth spurt' time as she can!

First day of no visitors / visits tomorrow since she was born and as DP is heading out to see a friend I am planning a day in bed snuggling my little girl- heaven!!

Happy Sundays to all xxx
