Have borrowed Needles list, which I'll start here, please feel free to add your details to it. I'm rubbish at list keeping, and hopefully Needles will be along to keep it updated :o

MiniPopsMum2012 · 16/09/2012 05:09

Thanks for the info susie, that is really helpful. I will take a look. Minipop is now over 11lbs Shock so hopefully big enough, as hr keeps kicking covers off.

MrsM DMP has bad skin, and lots of milk spots, bless him! They seem to go on thei own & dr wasnt worred.

Vinolover · 16/09/2012 07:01

Minipop should be fine to go in now :). William has been in his for a few days now and is 10lb 8. The only thing I don't like about it at the moment is its too long for the moses and so I have to drape it over the bottom, otherwise it's great and he looks so snugly and cosy in it.

We're spotty here too but they seem to be clearing up slightly now. They seemed to be at their worst at 3/4 wk so they really don't last very long.

susiegrapevine · 16/09/2012 09:38

Oh yeah minipop what a big boy he is now! Bet you are so glad he is thriving after such a traumatic begining! He will be fine in a sleeping bag. vino with ds1 we used to tuck the excess underneath him to avoid the drap over.

Oh dear jacob decided it was a good idea to be awake from 2 till 4 last night! Not fun! Very tired now!

Is everyone talking about milk spots on there baby? Jacob has yet to get any and will be 4 weeks on tuesday!! Mental how time flies!

hamncheese · 16/09/2012 09:44

So glad the wrap is working geek :)

white I'd definitley offer her milk if you can I think if it was me I would prefer knowing it was from someone I know and like if possible you know? Also sandy is the king of fussing at the breast. He seems to associate feeding with pooing and is Constantly coming off to push.

For kicking off covers I get two blankets and roll them into sausages and put them on either side of him up to his arms then tuck the blankets under the sausags on either side keeps things more in place.

So we had a really traumatic night. Want to described in case it happens to anyone else. Sandy fed at 6am yesterday then all day wouldn't feed properly. He'd go on and suck for a minute then come off pushing. He's been like this before so I didn't worry but by the afternoon he wasn't sleeping either and would only sleep in the sling with his dummy constantly in and he'd wake up suddenly looking scared and scream. I thought it was colic but when he's had that before feeding was the only thing to settle him but by the evening he refused to feed at all. If I put him at the breast he did these blood curdling screams which made him go really hot in the head it was scary. If I did manage to get him on (he self latches so very hard) he would suck insanely for a few sucks with this manic look on his face then pull off screaming again. Also now cuddles didn't settle him only time not screaming was when he had the dummy but even then he was thrashing about and sucking like mad and spitting it out then doing his hungry face. Really worrying as he was clearly very hungry but was refusing my milk. So I called the breast feeding helpline number. Went through the basics no temperature bulging fontanelle etc. things she suggested might be an issue were that I'd gone off dairy recently may have changed the taste. Also that he might be feeling ill. She mentioned had he had any earache and I had noticed this white stuff in his ear hole that morning, like earwax but white not yellow. So there was that, and she mentioned his head bruise and cranial osteopathy too. But anyway I'm not sure what it was but he definitley seemed out of sorts so she suggested expressing and trying bottle by midnight if he hadnt fed. And then nhs direct if still no better. With a lot of perseverance I got about 10 minutes of feeding from him in short bursts and then eventually got him to sleep on me with the dummy. He slept an hour then woke up and thank god fed normally. So I still don't know what it was exactly but he fed and slept well all night. I could have just been insane colic, but he was not himself so I think he may have a bit of pain somewhere, be it his head, or ear. Also quite snotty so maybe that's part of it too. Just wanted to warn as I pretty much get hysterical as no matter what before he has always fed, even in horrible colic and ages without sleep. And the idea I couldn't get him fed was bloody scary, especially at night. Those helpline numbers are only open til 10pm on the whole too so that's the advice I got incase it ever happens to anyone in the middle of the night. She said if no feeding after 14 hours call nhs direct. Don't mean to scare anyone and it all turned out fine in the end... But I don't know what I'd have done if it was middle of the night and no help available.

Off to have a better day today... Watching tv and doing nothing but feeding my poor wee man in this crazy wintery weather!

Vinolover · 16/09/2012 09:48

I'll try that tonight susie, hopefully it won't lift his legs too high lol.
I've been awake with W since 5.30, so with the night feed he had I'm feeling knackered too! In fact, I'm still in bed with him fast asleep on my chest :). My mil is cooking today so I intend to be disgustingly lazy :).

Hope everyone else has some nice plans!

Vinolover · 16/09/2012 09:54

Poor sandy ham. I'm glad he seems better now! It's so scary when they're so small and can't tell you what is wrong :(. Make sure you have a nice chilled out day.

Whiteangel · 16/09/2012 11:01

Dummy users - how much do you use them? We started just to settle before bed, then earlier in the evening, then yesterday afternoon when he was workedup with no cause. This morning DH took him for an hour so I could go back to sleep as I'd been up every 90 mins and he's had his dummy in all morning. Feel guilty and lazy ike I'm cheating. Tell me I'm being daft. Woke up feeling really down and useless after a really good day yesterday. Think I'm scared of being on my own this week after having sis here and DH all weekend. Grr, need chocolate cake. Good job my super star baking friend is coming round later with cake!

geekette · 16/09/2012 11:33

Sorry can't help white as I am currently a life sized dummy for my little girl at times! But I am having a lazy Sunday today too!

Sorry you had a rough day ham but I also worry about mini geeks feeding pattern at times so your advice is warranted!

Now I am worried she doesn't get enough sleep as she spends the night clearing her throat, grunting and pushing. All gone by morning but then she will only sleep on me...

MrsMigginslovespies · 16/09/2012 11:38

Thanks re spots advice; he suddenly over past couple of days looks like Kevin the Teenager, bless him.
Re Bleeding, should i be worried that it's suddenly got a lot heavier and red overnight? I complained yesterday of sore cramps and today, a lot heavier. Normal?

Tired again today after a ok night but unsettled after he didn't settle for some reason from 0445.

Ham, glad all ok but how scary for you all. Extra cuddles today for you both!

Happy chilled Sunday all x

hamncheese · 16/09/2012 13:17

Thanks all.

miggins has the heavier leading coincided with a lot of feeding? I found I would have none then it'd be back a lot with a feedathon as that causes the uterus to contract...

hamncheese · 16/09/2012 13:17

Bleeding*

MrsMigginslovespies · 16/09/2012 15:59

Yes interestingly. 9 good feeds yesterday actually. Not so many today as maybe he's still full! But still feeling very tired and icky cramps. Not yet left the house but aimimg for a trip to the shops bit later x

capecath · 16/09/2012 21:14

ham just a thought that it may be reflux even if not throwing up so much? Sounds like our LO just before he projectile vomits - he seems hungry but keep latching then unlatching and feeds frantically, pulling at my nipple really hard, crying, comfort-feeding.. then bluuurgh. And after that seems better! But seems you can have reflux without throwing up too much. www.babyreflux.co.uk/knowledge/questions/3/What+are+the+symptoms+of+baby+reflux%3F
Just a thought anyway... we've also had the runny nose and smelly breath symptoms from this.

hamncheese · 17/09/2012 07:09

Think you are onto something cath he has quite a few if these symptoms. I've been trying to feed him upright will continue. Think I should take him to the doctor?

Gnomi · 17/09/2012 10:20

Minipopsmum The sleeping bag is great - Ben seems to really like it. We put him in it when he reached 11lb. He's already in his cot so we don't have the overhang issue.

Whiteangel We're quite strict with the dummy - he only uses it to go to sleep in his cot. I'm hoping that soon he will start to associate the dummy with sleep time. I've been putting him down for naps like this and sometimes it works!

Happy Monday everyone - isn't maternity leave great?!

geekette · 17/09/2012 11:35

Maternity leave rocks!

But I can only say that because hubby has taken extra holidays to help out

WelshLadyCDF · 17/09/2012 13:16

gnomi ... sleeping bag with sleep suit underneath?

geekette · 17/09/2012 13:19

Yeah welsh. The grobag manual has instructions on what the baby should wear underneath the bag at certain temperatures. I think sleep suit under 2.5 tog grobag is for 20°c....

capecath · 17/09/2012 13:40

ham well I am planning to ask about trying some Gaviscon or Infacol at next GP appointment - figure it can't do any harm and seems to have been helping others on this forum!

hamncheese · 17/09/2012 13:50

Reporting back on cranial osteopathy. Went today and he had his first session which involved discussing how he is, how the birth was etc. then she put him on a pillow on a bed and first worked on his diaphragm then on his head. Basically they very gently manipulate things to as she said persuade things to move in the right way. The diaphragm as when it is moving well the motions of breathing aid digestion, moving things downward. The head as it promotes the skull to finish forming right and stop giving any possible pain left over from birth as even if bruising is gone it can still hurt as skull is still forming. It cost £30 for a session. She said he may be more unsettled after first session but it will ale a few sessions to improve him so booked in again for next week. I will report back on his colic/general behaviour too.

miggins the place is called the natural health service on high street Glasgow, situated just down from the cross with Ingram street

Finally got him asleep on me today and we are going out in an hour arghh... Waiting for floppy arm to try and tidy the house a bit. I know this is the toughest time (6-8 weeks) apparently for crying and being unsettled. Did anyone who has previous DC find they did improve after 8 weeks? Or does it all depend on the baby?

Stinkyminkymoo · 18/09/2012 11:24

Hello! Only just discovered this thread :)

Stinkyminkymoo (36) dc1 GIRL due 11/08/12, born 15/08/12

Hoping to catch up with all the info & gossip!

fairtradelu · 18/09/2012 11:35

I've finally caught up with the thread and can I just say it is an amazing resource full of great advice and support. It has really helped me through the first week.

The good news is that one week in I am starting to feel like I can do this. I am still quite scared about next week when DH goes back to work (he has been amazing) but we have sussed breast feeding (although still get pain when she first latches on sometimes), nappy changes are getting less like screamathons thanks to the tip of doing them mid-feed, and she finally settles in her Moses basket at night and will sleep for anything from 1.5 to 4.5 hours at a time. It took a good few nights to sort the Moses basket issue but our magic trick has been to put the baby sheepskin rug in the Moses basket. It obviously makes it a lot more snuggly and she seems a lot happier (before she was only falling asleep on DH or in bed with us.

So we are getting there slowly. It is a hard slog but I am so happy to have her and this thread has made the whole process a lot easier so thanks to all those who had timely August babies and have been contributing lots!

hamncheese · 18/09/2012 13:13

Hey moo :)

Glad things are going well fairtrade!

Dead quiet on here I'm hoping for good reasons like babies giving mums lots of sleeping time.

I'm fairly sure sandy has a bug of some sort. Since his night from hell he has had a runny now crusty nose. He wakes up suddenly screaming and won't settle back unless on me. He is also snack feeding up to every 20 mins whilst sleeping on me and yesterday his fontanelle was a bit dipped again. Temp is normal and he is still having periods of waking and being lively so not worried but feel glad there is a probable explanation for his sudden regression in terms of sleep and feeding progress!

This morning I gave him to Dh and went to the bathroom came back to bed to feed him and as soon as he saw me he just started smiling and shouting with happiness :') he makes me all weepy I love him so much!!

MiniPopsMum2012 · 18/09/2012 13:30

Thanks for info ham sounds quite interesting, might see if I can get MiniPop booked in for some. :)

Glad to hear things are going ok lu I keep hearing about these sheepskin things, might have to invest in one.

Ham hope sandy feels a bit better soon, has he had any injections yet? Sometimes that can cause them to be a bit off colour/under the weather a week or so later.

Very cute thing this morning - Daddy's gone to work, but I held the phone to MiniPop's ear so he could hear him and he was all smiles and giggles, but couldn't work out where Daddy was - just kept looking at me confused Grin bless him.

He's having a real Daddy phase at the moment, stares at him loads, and will follow him around the room, and will smile and giggle as soon as he sees him.. very cute! :)

geekette · 18/09/2012 13:55

Phew! glad there is a time they begin to recognise things. I keep wondering where are all the promised cuddles? For now it is just scream scream scream and the involuntary random smile!

She is 4 weeks on Thursday but I wouldn't wish this time away, as annoying as it is.
