Oops, sorry about that Blush bad day at the office!

golemmings · 03/07/2012 07:59

Morning all. Hope today goes well sche. I had a colposcopy after my first smear which was borderline. All was fine.

And you know what I was saying about easily meeting rda for calcium? I was talking out of my arse. Rda cited in government sources for calcium is 525 mg/day not 25. Guess the book has a typo in it. We're still working out how to do that without cows milk products. In the interim we're eating grouse almonds on everything!

golemmings · 03/07/2012 08:01

Or even ground almonds!

FuzzzyDuckosaurus · 03/07/2012 09:20

Good luck for today sch Smile

lookout · 03/07/2012 10:05

golemmings we're having the same trouble. The oat milk we use on cereals and in cooking is calcium fortified, as is the formula we've just been prescribed (but are not using yet as I can't bring myself to). We're trying to get broccoli and spinach into sauces/purees. Otherwise I'm stumped. Ground almonds? Didn't even know they were calcium rich - i shall be baking a cake with some this week then Smile

sche good luck for today.

Mama boys definitely are booby obsessed. Big and small Grin

sp Hooray for standing! I love it when they are so obviously proud of themselves! E is doing it with clapping atm. Melts my heart Smile

sassy34264 · 03/07/2012 11:43

calcium

sassy34264 · 03/07/2012 11:51

calcium

try again!

lookout · 03/07/2012 12:16

Thanks sassy, that's really helpful. What the heck are collard greens though??!!

Engelsmeisje · 03/07/2012 13:10

they always talk about collard greens in one of the texts I teach/have taught (but can't for the life of me remember which). Think it might be To Kill a Mockingbird...which doesn't really help!

sassy34264 · 03/07/2012 14:02

i think they might be referred to as spring greens here. but they are apparantly from the same family as cabbage and kale and are from africa. health foods shops are your best bet if you want them.

trying to write my statement for court as it has to be in for tomorrow, hence the not posting properly.

MamaMaiasaura · 03/07/2012 14:02

Has there been some specific advice given to someone here over calcium then? I never really worried too much about whether they had enough of a particular type of vitamin. Just offered a range of healthy foods. Some weeks all he wanted was carbs, another week protiens. He would (and still does eat lots of fruit and veg). Confused

MamaMaiasaura · 03/07/2012 14:04

Eek sassy good luck. X

MamaMaiasaura · 03/07/2012 14:06

good luck with the statement sassy

lookout · 03/07/2012 16:36

Mama golemmings and I have dairy allergic babies so we're just wondering how to keep up calcium Smile

lookout · 03/07/2012 16:38

Oops sorry engels, x posts

MamaMaiasaura · 03/07/2012 16:50

Oh I see wondered if it was that [thick emocion] Smile

lovinbeingmum · 03/07/2012 17:02

Well I'm finally getting off my backside and posting instead of just being a lurker...all you girls have been such a HUGE morale support for me through the last eight months (without knowing it of course :) ) and I had to post back.....

There was someone having poo problems, well baby having poo problems that is. I've found Ella's prune and raisin brekkie a knockout solution. Also musk melon with slightly steamed blueberry works fabulously.

Regarding the discussion on calcium, have any of you heard of finger millet? It's like a magic grain in terms of its calcium and iron content. 100g of milk has 120mg of calcium while finger millet for every 100g has 344mg of calcium. Discovered it when ds' milk intake dropped to 8-10 ounces. (I really felt for one of the posters who had said if anyone can get her babe to drink some more milk they can jolly well come and give it!) Anyway, as recommended to me, you can get this grain typically at Asian stores which sell it in powder form (called ragi). It's made with milk like cereal.

And finally, while I am online, huge thanks sche and fuzzzy.....sche for the cheese omlette idea. Breakfast was a nightmare the last week since he learnt how to blow the cereal out of his mouth on my hair, clothes, floor, door etc etc etc....omlette is being lapped up!! Fuzzzy for so many things.....girl, you are a wonder mom!! hope you go on to have many many more babies....wish I could have had you as a nanny!.....picked up so many ideas from you in terms of routine, play, food....long list......

lovinbeingmum · 03/07/2012 17:04

btw for dairy allergic babies, I think this ragi thing can be made with water as well and be just as healthy.......

FuzzzyDuckosaurus · 03/07/2012 17:08

Thanks Grin
Question though, are you someone who has name changed...? I'm confused as to who you are Blush

lovinbeingmum · 03/07/2012 17:47

oh...new poster...have been following the thread...just never wrote in.....

FuzzzyDuckosaurus · 03/07/2012 17:50

Well I hope your sticking around!! We are all a lovely bunch Wink
Do you want to share any info on yourself and dc..?

lookout · 03/07/2012 18:31

lovin Hi and welcome! Will have a looka for that finger millet

Fuzzzy Nosey Wink

lovinbeingmum · 03/07/2012 19:04

Info on me..sure....typical Londoner living in a cubby hole reading about all you people with gardens. L'il boy, born 09/10/11.....not sure if any of you have DS/DDs born that day. A birth I really can't complain about...swam and partied till the previous day and night respectively...came home with him the next night...and life changed....

...he hates milk...i struggle with it...likes solids but I don't have the courage for BLW....he's not crawling/walking/standing yet...doesn't understand what all the fuss is about when someone will come along soon enough to get him to his desired destination.....but chatting away with the mama, dada and papas nineteen to a dozen....

....that's the two of us in a nutshell......

emmazed · 03/07/2012 20:22

lovin aw, he sounds so gorgeous! Fab birthday, I was hoping to get that one, but no such luck. Welcome to the thread, and hope you join in more now

Had a lovely day with my best mate and her 12 week old. Unfortunately her dd has been really unwell and in hospital in a high dependency unit for the past week. They are home now, but following up on tests of what was wrong. Great to chill out and spend some time with them after her terrible time. They have 2 cats and Joseph really enjoyed stroking (grabbing) them.
