It is Jubilee weekend Crown - awaiting those babies!

surfmama what about trying the hug hold, rather than the newborn hug hold, i.e. legs out? DS would not play ball putting his legs in the froggy position for the newborn hug hold, so the sling library lady said it was fine to use the hug hold with the legs out, as he seemed happy enough in that position.

I still find it quite difficult to get him in straight - he seems to end up leaning to one side or other. What particular part of putting her in are you having difficulty with?

So annoyed - just been to MIL's for dinner, and we left the bloody car seat raincover there. Dagnamit.

Sleepy time . Appointment with the obstetrician in the morning to discuss what happened this time, if it could happen again, and how it might affect any future pregnancy and the type of antenatal care I have. I hope he doesn't think I'm wasting his time Sad

DD has slept all night!!! The sleep is nice but my god my boobs hurt and I look like I've got footballs down my top. I'm going to have to wake her up.

CathFin · 12/07/2012 07:52

Well Tea you could potentially gat pregnant any time so its good to know the info in advance, hope obstetrician is sympathetic!

Inadvertently squirted milk on laptop when DS unlatched midfeed - ewk!

CathFin · 12/07/2012 07:55

rachy - I was going to put DS in the baby bjorn yesterday but I gave up and he is my 3rd DC!

McKayz · 12/07/2012 08:32

The dreaded HV will be here soon. I'm really hoping DD is putting weight on well.

DairyNips · 12/07/2012 09:29

McKayz I'm sure she will be fine, looks like she's thriving from your picsSmile

DairyNips · 12/07/2012 09:33

Btw, I'm having an oversupply/fast let down problem at the moment. Finally worked it out after a few days of Oscar pulling off and screaming just after let down. He was just doing it on one side but now it's bothSad He gulps air in trying to keep up with the flow then I have to keep winding him and trying again after some milk has dripped out on to a muslin. He's a lot better when we lay in bed to feed. I had a look on kellymom and trying to feed one side per feed may help, also laying back whilst feeding so gravity helps. Will try this today and see how I get on..

mammadothebump · 12/07/2012 09:37

Good luck with the hv mckayz, got mine tomorrow which I'm not massively looking forward to. Poor you with the boobs, it's the worst side effect of this bf lark for me. Haven't started pumping yet as bf councillor said to wait 6 weeks so it doesn't interfere with my supply so much.

Shelduck love the camera instinct! We're the same, can't wait to whip out all the clips when she's 16!

Not a bad night had by us. Feeds at 1am, 4am and 9am so its beginning to feel like we're getting into a routine. Co-sleeping has been a godsend this time. That and the fact I seem to have a very placid baby at the momentum which is a definite shock to the system. Not used to a newborn who's wide awakening and not screaming! (I'm aware these could be famous last words!)

On my phone so can't scroll up and my brain is useless as ever for retaining info. Hope everyone else and their wee ones are doing good. X

McKayz · 12/07/2012 09:54

Wooo!! She's now 10lb 5oz. So she has put on 1lb 5oz in 2 weeks. HV is very happy with her and me. There's still a touch of jaundice but HV said that's normal with BF babies sometimes. I think I need to realise now that it's not all going to go wrong like it did with DS2.

TeaandHobnobs · 12/07/2012 11:32

Yay McKayz that's awesome! 1lb 5oz in 2 weeks?! Shock Hope that is giving you confidence that everything is going fine Smile

Hope the new BFing tactic helps DairyNips. I've tried a few positions other than cradle hold (rugby hold or biological nurturing) but DS just can't seem to get comfy. I have however mastered feeding lying down on my side at last, which meant a bit of extra nappage this morning Grin

Sounds like a good night mammadothebump!

Well, obstetrician appointment was short, but helpful I think. It wasn't actually the consultant (the one who I never saw in hospital because he was skiing Hmm) but the registrar who was all set to kick me out two days before I ended up going into labour. She was very lovely though. Still not really sure what happened - she says most likely cause was a very small abruption of the placenta, which kept detaching and healing, and it was just the the bleeding eventually irritated the uterus into labour. The histology report said the placenta was in good condition (so the bit that had detached wasn't drying out or deteriorating or anything), and the only thing they noted was that the cord wasn't in the centre of the placenta, but attached towards one end of it - not that that means anything.

She said it probably won't happen again, but to come back to them early on next pregnancy, and they will do an additional scan at 20 weeks to check the placenta blood flow. So I feel a bit comforted by that Smile

DS is nodding off in his bouncy chair - time to get on with some other things!

OP posts:
Shelduck · 13/07/2012 07:09

Good news from consultant tea! That must be very reassuring.

You've just reminded me that we also have a bouncy chair, which i'd left in the loft because i assumed DS needed to be a little bit older for it, but just thinking it might be the thing for when he's grizzling in the evening. (DH is starting to get a bit worn down by the fact that the time he has with DS, and the even shorter time we have together, coincides with DS at his most difficult.)

Mckayz wow that's a lot of weight your DD has out on. Brilliant stuff!

Hope you solve the bfing problem dairy. I'm inclined to say "well at least you're nice and productive" but that's maybe not helpful! Smile

exBrightonBell · 13/07/2012 08:39

Marking my place, finally, on the postnatal thread. I feel a bit of a cheat being on the June thread seeing BabyBell eventually arrived on the 10th of June! I guess these things can't be helped Smile.

Shelduck · 13/07/2012 11:55

Hi ex. No, you're very welcome. What's ten days between friends! Smile

gwenniebee · 13/07/2012 13:29

Just marking my place, at last! Even more of a cheat - eleven days into July and twelve days overdue!

We avoided induction by an hour, so I'm introducing Jemima Josephine Elizabeth, aka The Artful Dodger.

surfmama · 13/07/2012 17:40

hello..wecome babybelle and babygwen, here we all are at last!

Tea..thats great news, are you planning on a big or small gap between bubbas? i said never again but would like 2, maybe my bits and bobs have cleaned themselves out and it would be a quick conception but who knows.. The sling thing.. Well have practised every day this week, tuck baby in fold nearest me, tuck other bits over and the bit i pull over hear head... Should this be the outside of the bit closest to my body? it just never seems to keep her head in place so i can be hands free and also seems to squash her head down a bit?

Also, help, no idea what's normal. yeserday afternoon, last night, today... About 5 hours of constantly wating boob after boob, yacking up a load and then crying and doing feeding signals. Surely is she just ate less and yacked up less it would be the same and i might get some sleep... And some jobs done? is this normal? should i feed every time she looks for boobage or am i doing something wrong?

Should i read a book?!!!

Kveta · 13/07/2012 19:40

surf I have a semi structured carrier type of sling - it's the bondolino brand.

feeding-wise, all sounds normal I'm afraid!! Em tends to vom quite a lot after feeds, which is annoying. as long as they gain weight and appear otherwise healthy, it is all fine. the constant feeding now is to get your supply up, and in a few weeks, feeds will get quicker and/or more spaced out as your supply will be greater and baby will be bigger and stronger and better at feeding. for now, just appreciate the chance to sit down a lot to recover from the birth :)

tea glad that it all sounds like a one-off wrt placenta - have you started thinking about #2 yet?! :o I am already wondering if a 3rd would be such a bad idea - will see how I feel in 3 years though! still hate pregnancy and birth, but love love love newborn stage!!

I feel like shite just now though, as have ear infection, and wowee, it hurts! not so bad today, but spent yesterday crying until painkillers took effect. but am back on the cocodamol, and have antibiotics too as GP thought infecton looked pretty bad. just hope I can avoid thrush as a side effect of the ABs!!

congratulations exB and gwennie! so glad all the june babies are finally here - only took from 25th of April until 11th of July :o will do stats on FB once we have all the info, but it looks like Tea had the smallest and earliest baby, mrsshears had the biggest, and several of you had the latest babies, can't figure out who made it past 42 weeks!

off down south tomorrow to take Em to visit my grandmother - first great-granddaughter, so grandma is terribly excited! DS is excited too as grandma has lots of clocks and a dog :o

Kveta · 13/07/2012 19:43

oh and surf if you want a book, try the food of love by kate evans. think it might be good one for you :)

surfmama · 13/07/2012 19:59

hi kveta thank you so much for your help, i cried but felt better for your reply! good to know its normal, how you do it with other dc is a wonder to me. sorry you are feeling so poo...can you get some good probiotics for after antib's? i am taking cytoplan ones every day since iv anti b's and have so far avoided the dreaded thrush. hope you feel better soon. will check that book out and put my feet up! hello everyone and babies.

Ginga66 · 14/07/2012 01:42

Hi all. Just back from hospitals for fourth blood test for my five week old. Jaundice receded then returned again. Waiting for hospital to call. If he needs treatment they will call within two hours but I am going to sleep if I can.
What with bouts of colic and then crying from my three year old this has been a tough start.
Feeling bit better now but was really struggling with guilty feelings about ds1 . He kicked off at nursery on Thursday. Adjusting to not being the only one is hard for us all.
Also breastfeeding trickier but He has gained nearly four pounds in five weeks! Can't get him on a bottle which i wanted just so now and then i could get a break. Been trying all kinds and no luck yet.
Anyhow now that I'm feeling a liitle better will be nice to check in here.

Warlin · 14/07/2012 13:37

Hi All

Grabbing a quick few minutes on the laptop while DS sleeps (finally). He has been awake since 7.30 and screamed the whole time we were out for a walk Hmm. He has wind poor thing.

tea that's reassuring that they don't think it will happen again...you are just right to ask questions. It's hard to believe we are all thinking about when/ if more are on the way. Would you like more? We would like another one but hopefully will wait a year first. Wouldn't want to go back to work sporting a big bump Blush

cathfin I've got a baby bjorn....have finally managed to get it all set up but haven't taken DS anywhere in it yet, other than around the garden :) I walk every day but I just like taking the pram and am worried he will kick off in the sling and I will stuggle to get him out of it and settled again....have these visions of ending up carrying him miles from home Hmm

DH has been off all this week and it's been so nice to get some help on a daily basis...get things done much quicker when I can hand DS over!

We have our ultrasound on Monday for DS's hips. Although our consultant thinks he will grow out of his clicky hip, he can't really tell until they scan him...dreading it. Really hope he's ok. Also made my appointment for Monday week to get first vaccinations done..poor wee mite :(

gingadon't be hard on yourself. DS1 will soon forget about it once your DS2 is old enough to be of interest to him...it's hard to adjust but just focus on the fact that he has a little brother and they will be good friends in no time. Glad you're feeling a bit better x

mrsshears · 14/07/2012 17:45

Hi everyone

sorry i have been AWOL dh has been working away for the last 8 days and i have barely had time to use the loo let alone anything else.
Well it turns out my wound is not infected which i found surprising as it is discharging so surely something must be going on?

surf dd is also a constant feeder and also wont be put down during the day which is very draining. On a positive note she is sleeping well at night and only waking once in the early hours for a feed i dread to think how i would manage if this wasnt the case.

Welcome exbrightonbelle and gwennie glad your little ones decided to arrive at last Smile

Hope everyone is well

mrsshears · 14/07/2012 17:49

ooh keveta just seen your post, hope you feel better soon Thanks

Kveta · 15/07/2012 14:26

hiya.
ear still bad here, thank god for co-codamol and ibuprofen left over from Em's birth!

DS is driving me fricking NUTS today, took him out for a walk in the sole decent weather we've had in weeks and he just had one long tantrum round the (new to us) park. I am so close to walloping him, but have to restrain myself. i have tried cuddling him as much as possible, but he is not a cuddly child and just bites or kicks when cuddled. grr.

luckily Em is still good, and slept 11-3 then 3.30 or so -5 when DS jumped on her. she has terrible milk spots just now, looks a right mess.

when is this weather ever going to bloody improve? my veg garden has pretty much all gone to seed, total waste of time and effort that was.

not in a happy mood today!!

Shelduck · 16/07/2012 07:46

Sorry about your ear kveta. i think i'm going to head to the gp today as i've felt generally under the weather for the last week. Assumed it was a cold, but hasn't materialised and have a feeling i might actually be harbouring a UTI. Oh joy. Not surprising given that i find it hard to find time to drink and go for a wee. Is everyone else just feeling generally knackered and run down?

I'm with you in the weather. The only slight positive for us is that we really haven't had much time to devote to the garden, and have done virtually nothing on our allotment which means that we at least haven't wasted too much time and money just to feed the slugs and snails!

DS, having been quite a placid baby until now, is having a really grizzly few days. Trying to view it positively - so as he howls away, i think "well, at least he's getting lots of practice at his vowel sounds!"

...oh, he's just vommed everywhere - off i go.

Hugs to everyone.

gwenniebee · 16/07/2012 07:46

Hello every body :) Just to say that I am still alive! I now understand why some people have their mummies come and stay for weeks when they have babies - how do you do anything except feed and change?!! My MIL was staying the last couple of nights too so haven't even had naps in the day - and she's delighted with her gdaughter but doesn't do ANYTHING to help. Felt so bad for DH who was trying to help me bf (that's another story) and keep on top of sterilising pumps/bottles/water for washing babybee in all day and all night and was sleeping as little as I was, AND entertaining his mum.

Better go!
