Tried to post on the original thread and my post got rejected as its full! Have copied and pasted below....

Congrats on the job offer ttl...hope the other one comes up trumps for you too.

Dd isn't quite crawling yet, but would very much like to. She is the queen of the Klingons at the moment, and has a meltdown the second I put her down, look in the opposite direction, or if someone else so much as looks at her. Not all the time thankfully, but definitely for part of every day.

On the bf thing, it's so personal.....I've just dropped doing the afternoon feed myself be cause dd is so distractible that she bobs on and off, which I don't like around other people, and now she finally has teeth the constant latch on/off was really hurting. I just bf once a day, our morning snuggle when she's nice and calm. I would be sad to give that one up just yet.

Sorry nickel, only just seen this. Where is this thread?

Eskarina · 11/08/2012 22:06

Nickel, big hugs. Have just read your other thread and want to send you lots of love (v un-MN-y I know). Take what is helpful to you from the thread (even if "helpful" isn't the same as "what you wanted to hear") and ignore those who are just wading in to take a pop at you. Vent on here to us too as we're not going to get nasty :)

We went to the triathlon on Tuesday and had a great time. Dd's first trip into London proper (DH works in zone 5 and we live further out than that) and was a great success.

Found the thread and read the first few pages. Good advice from Esk below. People are determined to fix your life for you aren't they?

As for the slapping thing I think it depends on your perspective. I bent down to pick something up the other day and ds grabbed my hair. I couldn't get him to realise and kind of panicked and flapped at his hands, whilst saying no, no, NO! Blush I ended up with tears in my eyes and he was sat smiling with two fistfuls of my hair. Great game!

My instincts like yours were wrong, but I never expected to be brought to my knees by a one year old pulling my hair. It's not in the baby books!

I do worry about how much pressure you are under. What do you think would help ?

CuriosityCola · 11/08/2012 22:23

Esk, glad you had a fab time at the Olympics. I took ds to London for a few days and had a great time wandering about soaking up the atmosphere.

nickelcognito · 12/08/2012 14:18

oh, i wasn't expecting everyone to clamber to my side! but i did kind of hope that people would give me a bit of sympathy/empathy. I was most perturbed by those who seemed to be telling me that what i did was the wosrt thing in the world that i could ever have done - bit hysterical, made me want to ignore any valid points they may have made...

I agree - the baby books should have a huge section on "your baby will bite/pull hair/pinch when you least expect it - coping strategies"
then they could have put the thing about pushing the hand in when the pinch gets too much.
It must have been stress-related more than pain, though, because later on she grabbed hold of my wrist with her teeth and bit down hard and long and it hardly hurt me at all. Hmm

I don't know what would help, really. I need a member of staff, someone that I can rely on to look after the shop so that I can do what I need to with DD, or who can be there to chat and help me generally. I also need a lot more customers to ease the worry of the financial burden. But that one doesn't seem to be forthcoming. I am trying not to worry about it, and I know there's nothing I can do, but it's so stressful. I want to keep in business, because I love it sooooo mcu, but i obviously can't do it where I am (in the street) but i don't know how worth the risk moving up the road into the busier part will be.
If only this regeneration thing would hurry up, then I could move into a lovely brand-spanking new building in the part of the town where everyone will be (this will not happen, because no chains are opening new brnaches in shitty towns like ours!)
It's not worth moving until it's obvious where i can move to successfully, anyway.
(12 month leases seem to be the best idea at the moment)

CuriosityCola · 12/08/2012 18:35

I tried the pushing the hand in thing today and it didn't work Hmm. Ds is terrible for pinching when he is tired though, so will no doubt get plenty of practice Smile

What kind of hours does your dh work Nickel? Mine leaves just after 7am and tries to be home by 7pm. He works in IT so the hours are horrid. Fortunately ds is in a 6am-6pm pattern so dh gets up with him and ds follows him about while he gets ready and he then gives ds breakfast. It's only a little break but makes a huge difference to my day.

As for the people saying its unhealthy being in a shop all the time, I think they are imagining that you leave your child to wilt away in a play pen all day. After all babies are well known for not expressing themselves when they are bored! It's doesn't sound much different to ds and I spending a good portion of the day in the living room.

Are you feeling generally happy apart from business worries?

CuriosityCola · 12/08/2012 18:44

Just had to rock ds back to sleep so sent massive post before it vanished.

FVP, how was the Fringe? I just noticed that you mentioned not liking your ergo...I'm not sure we can still be friends Wink I love mine, but ds has started nipping (my very toned) fleshy part under my chin when he has had enough Sad

I have so much to do tonight and I just can't be bothered. Wish I had bought in some junk food.

FeijoaVodkaPlease · 13/08/2012 10:45

xkikkkkkkkoooo oo

nickelcognito · 13/08/2012 11:24

FVP is so enamoured she's been rendered speechless Wink

nickelcognito · 13/08/2012 11:33

i was thinking about all of this after evensong.
she's started getting into a basic routine, based on the 6 days in the shop.
she's normally falling asleep in the pram at 5:30(ish) as we leave for home, then sleeping for a couple of hours.
of course, on sunday evensong, we leave home at 5:30, but she's not asleep when we get there (because she's not knackered!), and she doesn't sleep then because it's just too exciting. then she gets knackered, but won't sleep without boob. cue me getting worried about feeding her in the very warm robes, because it makes us both uncomfortably hot! But she's already upset and we're halfway through the service. (she had a feed during rehearsals, where I deliberately didn't robe in case she wanted to feed to sleep then)
I can't get out of the stalls and take off my robes and get to feed her quickly enough - she goes from "i'm perfectly happy playing" to "feed me now you bitch!" within about 5 minutes!
anyway, I fed her for a bit under my robes and she fell asleep, so i thought, excellent, I'll put her in the pram (like i do when she does this at work during the day) and she'll stay asleep.
NO! she wasn't in the right type of sleep, so she woke up again.
I had to wheel her round the south transept for ages trying to get her off. thought she was, but then she started to cry, and that was it.
I picked her up and she stopped, and she didn't try to get milk, so Confused

I just can't work her out at all.
she was totally out of her routine and she couldn't handle it.

At least in the shop, it's a steady routine every day - so far today, she's played in the story corner while I've stripped the window, I served and chatted to a customer, she got antsy (DD not the customer) and obviously wanted a feed ( about 10 to 11, so just about right), and she went to sleep, which is why i'm typing this.
i put her in the buggy asleep.
now i need to start dressing my window!
I'm putting Gruffalo stuff in it. Grin

CuriosityCola · 13/08/2012 16:17

Oooh, I love the gruffalo. Hope you got the display finished.

Routines are strange. I think we have only settled into a nice routine since I gave up trying to tweak timings to get ds to go to bed at 7pm. He is just a 6am-6pm baby (until the clocks change anyway!).

Ds is taking a longer morning nap in his cot or in with me about two hours after he wakes up. The he has another half hour at some point when we are out and about. Why I never encouraged the longer nap in the morning before I don't know. Then again maybe he wasn't ready for it?

Nickel, routines aside...when do you get a break? If you work 6 days and then have church on a Sunday, do you get any down time?

Lastly, I have a kind of silly question. I'm a little bit pfb when it comes to feeding ds. Will it make me a terrible mum if I let him eat fish fingers? I'm having haggis for dinner and trying to think what to give ds instead. The salt content doesn't look too bad, but I'm terrible at 'judging' ingredients Blush

nickelcognito · 13/08/2012 17:08

let him eat the haggis :)

nickelcognito · 13/08/2012 17:10

i think i did - i've got to wait for some more books and some toys to arrive, and i can pad it out a bit.
but i've put 3 posters in the window saying the gruffalo is coming! Grin

my downtime is the evenings and sunday afternoon.
you can see me paving around on sunday trying to find stuff to do... Hmm at myself.

CuriosityCola · 13/08/2012 21:09

Ha, allocated relaxation time can be annoying can't it? Dh normally makes a 101 suggestions of things for me to do. 'No I don't want to go to the gym, that's your idea of fun'.

Ds is staying at his grandparents this Saturday. The thought of leaving him makes me feel ill, but I know he will be fine. Have already done a trial of dh being the only one on duty for a whole night and he didn't seem bothered.

Btw, found some Salmon that dh had bought for himself. Ds chucked most of it on the floor anyway.

FVP, where is your real update? Grin

Esk, are you all set for dd's birthday? Only two and a half weeks...eek!

nickelcognito · 14/08/2012 10:53

bloomin' eck! she fell asleep feeding! just now!
i dropped my boob pad and picked it up. she woke up! and cried! argh!
and carried on crying!
got distracted by a man going to exhibition, scratched, rubbed her face on me, and is now sucking her thumb.
thankfully not scratching!

FeijoaVodkaPlease · 14/08/2012 13:43

Sorry that was miniFVPgirl who updated the other day. And as she is here asking for lunch, I'll come back and upDAtE proPERLY SOON.

argh! dd GET YOUR HAND OUT OF IT.

Fringe was ace btw. Thanks for the St Andrews Sq tip CC. DS loved it.

Eskarina · 14/08/2012 21:43

Cc, sorry to break it to you but dd/ds's joint birthday is in 1.5 not 2.5 weeks :) well, 12 days to be precise. We had a fab little birthday party for all the babies in our nct group on Saturday. It was lovely to think we've known these 6 tiny people from birth and seen them develop into such wonderful individual characters.

OP posts:
CuriosityCola · 15/08/2012 08:16

Glad you enjoyed it FVP. My ds loved the sandpit too and was then tired out crawling about the grass. It's not very often where you can find somewhere to out the little monkeys down and not have to redirect or apologise for them every two minutes. Smile

Esk despite the bad date calculation, I am organised...honest!Grin
Already had nct joint party, which was heaps of fun. Got another family gathering planned for the Sunday. Was thinking an August baby would be a BBQ party definite, but shall see if the weather wants to play nice.

We have had some milestones (at last!!!!). Ds's bottom two teeth have came in together over the last couple of days (thankfully as mil was 'getting worries'Hmm) and ds took his first steps. Still working on the sleep front Grin

Just had a look on the conception thread and just Mumming thread and I don't recognise anyone.

CuriosityCola · 15/08/2012 08:24

Please excuse spelling and grammar as usual Blush

FeijoaVodkaPlease · 15/08/2012 20:48

The day I don't feel stupidly over excited to arrive in Edinburgh is the day I shouldn't live in Scotland anymore. We didn't make it over to the old town this time, just wandered around Princess Street/PSGardens, St Andrews Sq (DS tried golf, he was crap, but so proud of himself) and back thorugh the gardens again. There was so much on, with out taking into account all the paid stuff we missed. It was like Edinburgh on steroids! We'll definately be back for the Christmas fare again. I agree about it being nice to have some where to let the little little ones out. There is nowhere like that in Stirling with out going to the park, so poor DD is either in the carrier or pushchair far more than she would like.

As for not liking the ergo CC, I'm sorry. I've tried but really just isn't for me, so I'm selling it to TTL and getting myself a melkaj mei tai instead (because I still love using a carrier). I'm also talking myself into needing a ring sling with my birthday funds...

Yay for up coming birthdays :) Sounds like a thread party to me - cake for all and bubbles for the Mummies... GrinWink

Also yay for milestones. Our latest milestone was putting DD in proper pigtails. It's just to bad she keeps pulling them out.

Did Miffles have her baby yet?

vallinnapod · 16/08/2012 10:13

STOP HAVING BIRTHDAYS BABIES! DS's is now 2 weeks away and I am in denial (despite planning a party - for us really...)

It's OK CC I still love my Ergo Wink...and my Moby - although I love the Moby more than DS, it's enforced cuddle time for him!!

FVP so cute with the pigtails!! DS has a mullet Hmm but I still refuse to cut his hair yet Grin

I am having big work wobbles. DS started nursery one day a week this week. Thought I would LOVE the day to myself. Went to the cinema and had a massage but hated every second although fell asleep during the massage :( DS's face crumpled as I left and then when I picked him up he was screaming - they had just changed him though - which is akin to torture in his eyes at the moment. I still don't return until 2 October but I would now do anything not to. Am hoping that I can either stick it out for the 12 months I need to to pay back my mat pay or I get pregnant (which is going cost ££££££ so will need to work)...grrrr...

CuriosityCola · 17/08/2012 09:04

Aw, pigtails are very, very cute Smile

Grin @ mullet. So many of the babies have funny hair at this point don't they? Ds looked like a 90 year old mad professor for a long time, so grateful the hair has thickened up and came through at the top!

Does anyone have the vtech baby walker? I got given one yesterday (passed down) from my mil. 'it's in good condition, but the batteries are completely flat'. Fast forward to middle of the night and ds and I are fast asleep. Dh is away. I'm in my bed and ds is in his cot for once. Then all I hear is 'hello baby' and funny noises. Well I just about hit the ceiling. I couldn't decide if I was having a nightmare or if something had said it. Then I was cursing myself for doing what your not supposed to do in a horror movie...look for the noise! Anyway, I eventually worked it out and retreated back under the duvet. Ds was none the wiser thankfully. I'm such a coward! Blush

vallinnapod · 17/08/2012 10:30

Hahaha CC - DS was give a speaking nursery rhyme book by MIL judgey judge, would rather actually read to my son and as the batteries have died and I refuse to replace them it has gone all weird and slow mo. Quite amusing but it randomly sparks up when DS has gone to bed!

I don't have any experience with the walker, there is once at the play cafe we go to. DS likes the lights and noise but has shown no real inclination to walk holding on to it, or my fingers, or anything other than the sofa Smile

CuriosityCola · 17/08/2012 21:27

Val my ds was exactly the same up until about two weeks ago. He actually still doesn't like walking holding hands very much. Too independent already

CuriosityCola · 17/08/2012 21:36

P.s. I wasn't ignoring your work worries. A few of my friends are going through the same at the moment and I don't know what to say to make it better.
