This time last year, we were all enormous, waiting for them to arrive - now they're almost 1

Hello Popsycal, glad to hear you had a nice day but Sad Harry is poorly. Harrison had something similar the week before I went back to work and his sleep was crappy for about two weeks. Better now though so fingers crossed for you Smile

Popsy - my fault for not being consistent with spelling Sylvia's name. She's registered as Sylvia (DH did it) but I'm used to the Romanian spelling of Silvia so I get confused myself. Personally, I like it as Silvia more, but that may be just the way I'm used.

I don't find the mornings and evenings that difficult but that may be because we don't have a proper routine so baths etc can be missed (thank God for swimming pools!).

I've started to let Sylvia nappyless in the mornings and evenings and she does her poos in the potty and today she did a wee-wee too, unprompted (she can do them too if I sit her on it and start going "SSSS" but this time it was her own initiative). Then she claps her hands and we take the potty to the loo and wave bye-bye to the products as they go down the toilet. Our rugs will need a good clean once the potty-training is over.

Sorry to hear about so many poorly babies. I always remember early spring as a particularly bad time for colds and bugs.

busywizzy · 07/03/2006 19:58

Wow Cristina, I'm impressed. Using a potty at one is remarkable, I thought DD was good, starting just after her second birthday, now that seems positively sluggish Grin

busywizzy · 07/03/2006 19:59

If Harrison's attempts at sitting, crawling, standing and walking are anything to go by, I won't be expecting to be an early poster about him using a potty Grin

We're taking it easy on the potty training front, esp. during the 3 days she's at nursery. My Mum helped with DS and I remember that's generally how she went about it. He was dry during the day by 1.5 but took till 6(!) to get dry at night. Still has the occasional accident.

popsycalindisguise · 07/03/2006 20:29

Isnt it funny how they are so different. DS1 trained himself at 2 years 8 months as I could not be bothered as I was pregnant then had ds2! He was dry at night within a week of being dry i n the day

busywizzy · 07/03/2006 20:53

Totally agree Popsycal about them being different. Tried with DD when she was 2 years, 2 months but got fed up of the accidents after a few days so gave up. About a month later, it was Easter and really sunny so she spent most of the weekend running around the garden with no clothes on. Started using a potty all by herself and we never looked back. Nightimes, she was gone three and again, did it by herself when she refused to have a nappy on at night when she had chickenpox.

Who knows what will happen this time Smile

Ooh - thank you busywizzy. Thought I might sneak in there first, but you beat me.

Happy Birthday Lauren Grin.

Iris has opened one present so far - some musical shakers and rattles from dd1, which she got stuck into with great gusto in our bedroom at 6.40am this morning! Shame her birthday didn't prompt her to have a lie in. She was up at 5.30 again.

busywizzy · 09/03/2006 09:44

Pidge, are you having a day off today or do you have to work? Have a nice day whichever it is Smile

Harrison has started waking at 6.15am again too, just as I was getting used to 7am onwards. Oh well, least it means I have lots of time to get us up and out the door on time (still don't seem to manage it though) Shame he doesn't understand weekends yet Smile

OP posts:
Pidge · 09/03/2006 12:58

No such luck. I'm at work! Dd1 was most put out as I headed off this morning, saying "But Mummy it's Iris's birthday" Sad.

How's Lauren's big day going jambot?

This time last year, I was probably still tucked up in bed at home with dp and Iris, whilst dd1 was off at her childminder's. I remember having tea and toast and making lots of crumbs in the bed!

Cristina7 · 09/03/2006 15:20

Happy birthday, Iris!

Happy birthday, Lauren!

I hope you had wonderful days.

BonyM · 09/03/2006 16:47

Happy Birthday to Lauren and Iris! Smile

Hope you've both had/are having lovely days. And congrats to Pidge and Jambot for making it through the first year Grin.

We have another early riser here - 5am-ish, although last few mornings have managed to persuade her back to sleep again by bringing her into bed with us, feeding her and cuddling her.

Ladies, I don't think I'm going to be able to make it on Saturday I'm afraid. We just seem to have so much on at the moment and dh is off to the States next week so I really don't think I can afford a day away from home (and it would be almost a full day for me with travelling time). Much as I'd like to come I just think it will stress me too much. Really sorry that I won't get to meet you, but have a lovely time. Smile

jambot · 09/03/2006 17:18

Thanks everyone. Happy Birthday Iris sweetheart! Hope she had a lovely day Pidge. Lauren had a ball although she didn't make much of everyone singing Happy Birthday at her party! Quite taken aback. Party was a blast. About 20 people (mainly family) and about 7 kids. Lauren wasn't particularly interested in all her lovely pressies, more all the food that she could help herself to! DH and I were up late last night making her a bright pink caterpillar birthday cake. It looked very garish but we were quite proud of our efforts. She ploughed through a slice of that, so hope she doesn't get sick!
She's fast asleep in bed now and DH and I are just doing a bit of tidying up. Can't believe that the first birthday is already over. Will post some piccies soon.
Wish I was joining you at your meet-up. Have a nice time.

jambot · 09/03/2006 17:20

Christina. Haven't forgotten the backpack. My cousin took it back to the UK with her. Just waiting for her to let me have her banking details and then I'll e-mail you regarding your address etc.

busywizzy · 09/03/2006 18:02

Cristina, looks like it's just you and me for the meet-up as Jo hasn't said anything. Seems an awful long way for you to come just to meet me Grin so shall we rearrange.

Hope Iris and Lauren had lovely days Smile

OP posts:
Cristina7 · 09/03/2006 20:49

Aww, that's a shame. I don't mind rearranging but would like coming too.

Cristina7 · 09/03/2006 20:53

Jambot - sounds like Lauren had a lovely day. LOL at you staying up at night to make the cake! At least your efforts were rewarded and Lauren liked it. I'm not on CAT here but my email is cristina at cismigiu dot demon dot co dot uk or tel 07946 165 726.

JoPG · 09/03/2006 21:05

Quite late, but Happy Birthday to Lauren and Iris. Hope you all had lovely days.

You're right, I have been pretty quiet on the meet up front, I really must apologise. Trouble is I have really got to do a 19 mile run on Saturday as part of my marathon training. Unfortunately sats are the only day that we can fit in such a long run. However, I would still really like to meet up. I would love to make another date, which I will try my utmost to keep to (I certainly won't be running again after the marathon so I will have a lot more time!)
Sorry again, Sad

Hope you are all having a lovely week. Very quiet here, all the people we usually meet up with seem to be ill so Freya has had no playmates this week! Off to Jo Jingles tomorrow, so hopefully that will be a bit more exciting for her than just boring old me!

busywizzy · 10/03/2006 09:23

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU
HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR AMY
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU Smile

Have a nice day Munchkinsusie

OK, let's rearrange the meet-up for May as April I'm suspecting will be busy with Easter and school holidays etc. Do we want to do a Friday or the weekend. Let me have dates and I'll try and co-ordinate it all Smile

OP posts:
Cristina7 · 10/03/2006 09:38

Happy birthday, Amy!

Weekends would be probably easier for Pidge who works during the week and others who have to travel further. Fridays are fine for me.

Having boasted about Sylvia's potty training, yesterday morning she did a poo in the potty and then missed the potty and pooed in three places on the rug (which we've only had since September). I said to DH "well, she has to start learning someday" and he said "no, she's only 1, you have to start learning". Dominic thought it was hilarious that she'd covered it in two blankets and then stepped on it for good measure too... I don;t know why he didn't alert me earlier, probably to engrossed in CBeebies.

BonyM · 10/03/2006 10:11

Happy Birthday Amy! Hope you and she have a lovely day munchkinsusie Smile.

Lol at Sylvia pooing on the rug and then covering it with blankets Grin. Sure it wasn't funny at the time Christina but you tell it well!

As far as the meet-up is concerned - the best day for me would be Saturday 6th as dh is off on a conference that day so it would be good to have something to do to distract me from the fact he's going away! If others can't make that day then any other Saturday apart from the 13th would be do-able.

Grace is becoming very fussy with her food lately. Hasn't wanted her cereal the last couple of mornings (usually loves it), has refused blueberries which only last week she was going mad for, and turns her nose up at anything I give her unless it's bread or toast of some sort or cheese (she'll also demolish organic vegetable corn puffs and biscuits!). Even her favourite spaghetti bolognese and yoghurts are being treated with suspicion. Hope it's just a phase. Wondering if her teeth are bothering her - the 2nd top one looks as though it's almost through - but then it's looked like this for a couple of weeks now!

jambot · 10/03/2006 10:18

Happy Birthday Amy! Hope you're still with us Munchkinsusie - haven't heard much from our latest Mum lately!
Bony, Lauren has started doing the exact same thing about her food. Until about a week ago, she ate pretty much everything I put in her mouth. Now she's suddenly started spitting out certain things and throwing food she doesn't want off her high chair tray. And there I was telling everyone that I thought I'd got her to develop an unfussy palate! Although a lot of friends did warn me that once their kids hit a year they also started to get picky.

busywizzy · 10/03/2006 13:28

Aaaaarrrggghhhh ................... DD's poorly again !!!!!!!!! She only went back to school on Tuesday but has been really tired each evening. Has been sleeping badly too and is waking around 1am most nights for some reason or another that I have to see to. This morning she looked quite pale and said she had a headache but I thought she can't possibly be ill again, she only finished her antibioics yesteday for her ear infection.

Got a phone call from the school at 9.30am (45 minutes after dropping her off) to say she's fainted Shock Shock and was asleep in the sick room, could I come and collect her. How bad did I feel Sad

She had half a biscuit when she got home, climbed into my bed and has been asleep ever since. What can be wrong with her, I'm getting really worried now Sad

I'm going to take her to the doctors on Monday to see if I can get her checked over.

Harrison's fine Grin

BonyM · 10/03/2006 14:16

Oh no Busy - poor dd Sad. You must be so worried. Do hope you don't have too bad a weekend with her and that the GP can get to the bottom of it on Monday.

jambot - it's reassuring to hear that Grace isn't the only one getting funny with food. I was scouring old threads earlier and it does seem to be fairly common at this age - something to do with them asserting their independence. We went to meet dh for lunch today and she ate lots of "bits" of various things - some bread roll, some cheese, some of my fish, little bit of pasta (which the restaurant cooked for her specially - no charge!), a rice cake. Turned her nose up at fruit though.

Have a good weekend everyone.
