Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I would say cluster feeding comixminx, ds1 was very regular from very young but Luke cluster fed like mad and I did doubt myself at times but everything I had read said don't top up as that will affect milk supply so I didn't. Tbh everyone I know who has topped up with formula has ended with bf fizzling out. I'm not an expert at all and hopefully debs will have some advice on tandem feeding but does the milk differ for each baby/child? Could it be that the milk is not as rich as its more designed for Aphra? I really don't know but just questions that popped into my mind. Each child is different ad weight gain isn't the only thing to worry about. If he's content and does have periods without feeding, wet nappies then just keep going. Luke only pooed once a fortnight while ebf too.

Dh and I have discussed this before but he just seems to be on at ds1 a lot without actually having any effect on his behaviour. I kind of see it as his problem as I can step in and he does listen but surely it's up to dh to discipline him himself as me telling him what to do doesn't help. He never had a problem with dss so it's not like its all new to him. I don't know of he's forgotten all the right ways to do it or just can't be bothered because he's very tired/stressed all the time.

Sorry to hear your trip away hasn't been as good as it could be diddlybop and hope your dh mans up soon Wink

comixminx · 28/08/2012 10:41

The people who are weighing him are obviously quite hung up on the weight gain / lack of, and he won't get discharged from their care until he's back at birth weight so I'm keen for him to put on weight well... So even if I'm not that concerned (in principle) then there is an external pressure to be concerned if you see what I mean. I think you said that Luke was back at birth weight or nearly so at first weighing so presumably you didn't have folks mithering you in the same way? Yes, Bruno is fine on all those counts - periods of sleep, periods of alertness, wet nappies. He had very few poos until yesterday when he pooed three times Grin.

I'll look up tandem feeding a bit more on Kellymom too I think. I would think that the milk is more geared to Bruno as he's doing most of the feeding / demanding supply but let's see if there are any tips there. I am figuring that topping up a bit with ff shouldn't affect my supply much because I am also feeding Aphra, but if I start giving as much as we did yesterday then that could be another kettle of fish.

Not sure what to advise re your DH to be fair, if you've already talked about it separately. I agree it sounds like his problem to resolve - I suppose the only ther question is, does he see it as a problem or not?

Hi comix, it's nice to know of another Elodie, we don't personally know any! I'm enjoying being a SAHM, esp as I have Fibromyalgia so don't know how I'd have managed going back to my job and drinking lots of tea looking after everything else. It's in remission again now thank goodness but we've been stuck at home for a week with a horrible virus, am going stir crazy!
Wow, breastfeeding again, it all seems like a distant, painful memory although I breastfed Elodie til 19 months. I do know that when I topped up with ff it was only a quick fix, clusterfeeding was the only way to get my body to speed up and make enough for her. Did u lose much blood during labour? I know my milk supply got better when my blood count got back to normal after 3 months of iron and vit C. I'm sure things will settle down soon for you.

cinnamongreyhound · 28/08/2012 22:10

Yes Luke only lost 15g at 5 days post birth and was back to birth weight reasonably quickly comixmix. He was a big baby 9lb 2 and didn't stay on that centile but settled quite quickly onto the 75th so no problems there from midwives or hv. I know they can be a but pushy but it's their problem not yours if they dont discharge him, will just I've them more work. I was stuck in the middle of something clearly political between the midwife and hv when I had luke. Hv wanted to do her first visit before I was signed off from the midwife and they were both very difficult about it. I got a bit upset and dh said to let them sort themselves out but it's tricky when they're both telling you different things.

Sorry chocolateporridge I should have welcomed you!!

Luke has had no bm today, I'm a bit sad as its the end of something but I think it was getting time to stop and dh had voiced his concerns about him getting too old so perhaps for the best. Will see what tomorrow brings.

newmum001 · 29/08/2012 07:34

Hi all, welcome chocolateporridge!

I think grace is trying to stop her nap! Since last tuesday she's had 3 days with no nap. The first time she coped quite well and wasn't particularly tired but sunday an yesterday were awful. She was exhausted by 4 o clock and screamed in the bath at 6. The trouble is if i put her to.bed before 7 she wakes up early and is even worse tge following day. Might try a nap after lunch (she usually has it before) and see how we get on. I bloody love nap time.

cinnamongreyhound · 29/08/2012 08:08

Try giving her a nap alternate days or every two days newmum001, that's what I did with one little girl I used to mind. She clearly didn't need a nap every day but couldn't go more than a couple of days without one to start with. After a couple of months she went down to one or two a week. She starts school next week, where does the time go?!?

newmum001 · 29/08/2012 08:23

Thats not a bad idea. She will need one today but weather she has one or not is down to her the stubborn little bugger. On sunday i put her in her cot and within 15 minutes she was yelling down to ask if i wanted a milkshake, i went up and she'd turned her cot into a kind of cafe with all her teddies lined up "drinking milkshake". The weathers shit today too so we're going to be very bored if we stay in and she doesnt nap.

Hows your holiday going? Im so jealous that you went to Peppa Pig world. Hope you took lots of photos!

cinnamongreyhound · 29/08/2012 08:34

It's been lovely apart from dh being stressed about the car which makes him grumpy! We had some awful traffic the first day too. Peppa pig world was fab, but lots of queuing! Don't really understand why so many people who didn't have any school age children were there in the holidays if I didn't have ds1 I'd definitely leave it until the first week of September! The boys absolutely loved the muddy puddles, which was lots of water fountains on that squishy Tarmac stuff. Luckily I'd looked at what was there and took their swim stuff as loads of people were buying it there or kids were in fully clothed! Will post pics on fb when we get back :). We're going to portsmouth today to look at the historic dock, we each chose one activity, dss was a tank museum, ds1 and Luke's was peppa pig and mine is the isle of wight on Friday!

Dixiebell · 29/08/2012 09:21

cinnamon, we live fairly near Portsmouth, we were at the historic dock too a cpl weeks back. I recommend tea & cake at the Georgian tea room! Also if you fancy a walk, walk along the water to Southsea common, the boys will live to watch the hovercraft coming up onto the beach at southsea. Arlo hasn't stopped talking about it since!

sassy34264 · 29/08/2012 15:24

welcome dances & chocolate

comix my hv had a bee in her bonnet about j and i having jaundice. wouldnt sign us off- took 15 sodding weeks and it turned out they didnt have the type of jaundice she thought they had and her advice was useless! it is their problem half the time, cos they have boxes to tick and rules to adhere to. i would just keep sticking him on and playing by ear. i have found after breast feexing 4 babies that you know if they are not getting enough as they will scream straight away after- obviously there are times and circumstances when this might not be the case- but they tend to be one offs rather than the norm. (baby on eva's thread wouldnt eat at all- turned out that his iron was so low, he hadnt the energy to eat or even cry about it)

newmum i dropped twins nap a while ago. it takes a while but eventually they stop falling asleep eating their dinner, or screaming at 4pm! they do still fall asleep occasionally but less often. i think cinnamons idea of a nap every couple of days is a good one. mine could do 2 days but where knackered by the 3rd.

newmum001 · 30/08/2012 08:21

Well she had a nap yesterday for an hour and was in a much better mood, shes got a cold though so didnt get up till 8 today so we'll see how it goes. She looks shattered though, i think i woke her up when i went to the loo. Are the twins going to bed easier now they've stopped having a nap or do they still climb out of their cots?

sassy34264 · 30/08/2012 08:42

100x easier! only time they climb out,. is if they hsve slept- but even then its mostly only once. i think they are just always tired at bedtime now.

sassy34264 · 30/08/2012 13:31

i take it all back newmum

check out pic taken 30mins ago in sept 2010

newmum001 · 30/08/2012 15:36

Haha they just bloody know when you've said something then go and do the exact opposit don't they!

sassy34264 · 31/08/2012 09:45

Woohoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I did it!

Oliver James was born at 12.30am weighing a very healthy 8lb! Ouch! I'm only a size 6-8, no wonder my ribs and pelvis were suffering!

Seemed to take forever to get established, Went to hospital 3 times in the end. The 2nd time was the worse cos the pains were every 2 minutes but I wasn't dilating! Literally as I left the ward to come home again they started properly! couldn't walk through them etc. Had a nice 3 hours at home, went back in at 9pm (after corrie!!) Did a bit of pushing and possibly a bit of screaming & there he was!

He's the absolute image of ds, and is reacting to feeding in the same way! i.e lazy & not feeding at all! I'll keep perservering!

Anyway. Hope you all had a good BH

happy birthday olly !!!
