A new thread for us and our little 2, 3 and very nearly 4 month olds, where is the time going??!!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
novadandypowder · 15/02/2006 15:05

quick poll needed..

I never wear my hair down because Nat likes to grab it - do I get it all cut off a la Sienna Miller?

babyonboard · 15/02/2006 15:42

lol nova - I have the same problem, whenever I pick him up he clings onto it..he sometimes reaches from his crib and grabs it in the night too..hheehee

unfortunately i have totally the wrong face shape/ears for short hair..it doesn't look great tied up either

i'd say go for it! it'll be a lot easier to maintain too! have you had it short before?

feeling very proud of myself as I have just stuffed a duck.
lol..that kind of thing / raw meat in general makes me quite squeamish..
i must be getting 'hard'..teehee

goldenoldie · 15/02/2006 15:44

Ops - meant to say twins had a feed at 11:30pm and then went through to 7:30am.............

babyonboard · 15/02/2006 15:52

lij - i know what you mean, we're only going to yorkshire for two days and theres an insane amount of stuff to take.
i might get my mum to buy some disposable bottles, nappies and formula for when we get there, to lighten the load somewhat
fortunately we now have a baby sling so I'll leave the pram at home.

will you be getting a basonette on the flight? I'd be interested to see what they are like as we are going away in april and dp is convinced we should buy an extra seat for the tot .

tessasmum · 15/02/2006 16:14

Don't think Easyjet do such upmarket things BoB.

Where are you going and who are you flying with?

In my experience - Easyjet to Belfast - you get to load first so take a window and middle seat then make sure whoever has middle seat holds the baby as rest of people board. If flight isn't full they will avoid you like the plague and you will have a spare seat anyway
Works even better with a toddler

babyonboard · 15/02/2006 16:22

''Been through the stats list to try and guess what everyone who hasn't found out what they're having are having!! Mainly because I'm bored!

Right here goes,

Girls - Nova, Enthusia, Beks, Firstbaby, LilJ, Sarahsaus and Sharon, plus those of us who've found out - Me, Tex, Yingers and Cads (?)

Boys - Laylasmum, Tessasmum, Busy and Twinkle plus those who've found out - Chacha, Hamster, Alfiesmum, Jenjam, Bamik, Kristina, Goldenoldie (x2!) and Babyonboard

So there you go, there are my phsycic predictions!! Not that I am phsycic in anyway BTW!! ''

i was just skimming through our old antenatal threads...made me all nostalgic!.and came across these predictions by rodeo

you were right about all the boys!
crazy

babyonboard · 15/02/2006 16:28

tessa..we thought that on a train, and booked two seats at a table so we'd have lots of room for o and all his baby junk, but a fairly old couple had booked the seats opposite us and insisted on taking them, even though there were unbooked seats at tables elsewhere in the carriage..grrr..

we are flying to macedonia and bulgaria with swiss air..they are pretty good for an airline! they do really lovely sandwiches and salads rather than nasty lukewarm ready meals..lol

not sure about the macedonia-bulgaria flight though, its with yugoslavian air so am expecting the worst..
not to be mean..teehee

babyonboard · 15/02/2006 16:32

God I'm bored..my brother has taken O out to soho to meet a friend, and I feel like my right arm has beeen cut off..teehee..

couldn't help myself and have called twice to check all is good..
after the response 'your baby is an amazing pulling tool' i don't know whether to relax or dash over there..lol...

BEKsmum · 15/02/2006 18:16

Afternoon girls, lots of things made me smile and chuckle in your threads today so sorry for the long post that seems to be developing from me today!

Bob well done for stuffing the duck, strange how after childbirth nothing makes you squeamish any more!!!
Lol at you brother using Oskar as a pulling tool, it's very true though, one of my friends pointed out that babies and dogs will encourage any woman to talk to strange men anywhere from the park to the train station where as if a strange man tried to start a conversation with you normally, you'd give them the cold shoulder and think they were a nutter or a perv!!!

Tessa love the flight suggestion, will definitely try that one next time, you're quite right though people do avoid you like the plague if you've got a toddler with you, although the last time I flew someone reclined the seat on Ben and refused to put it up as he said Ben only had short legs - needless to say i made sure Ben put those short legs to very good use all the way from Malaga to Gatwick Strangely enough the guy seemed to have the hump when he got off the flight can't think why

Nova, I'd go for the short look it's much easier to maintain and less of a nightmare when Natalie starts on solids and gets hold of a handful of your hair whilst holding on to handful of baby mush!

As for Thomas and the solids, we started at the end of last week so he was 14 wks, I'm afraid I'm not a natural in the kitchen so Thomas has been having jars of organic pureed fruit (yes I know bad, lazy mummy - but Ben turned out ok!) He only has about 6 - 8 small spoonfuls but if he really likes it he will demand more.
The HV didn't advise me to do it, it was more out of curiosity as he is fascinated by food and we had mash for dinner one night so I gave him a little bit off of my finger, which he loved so I just give him a little bit of fruit once a day.
I know it's a bit early to give it to him but the advice was weaning at 3 months when I had Ben so god knows what's right really.

Golden well done for managing three months with the boys - you've done a great job, don't beat yourself up about stopping but I do know what you mean about feeling sad about it being the end of an era

Busy glad Alfie was alright in the end, it's really hard isn't it. I'm really lucky because Ben is really good with Thomas but his little friends can tend to be a bit rough so I can't leave any of them unattended with him, for example he got a small hard toy dropped on his head this afternoon, it didn't bother him but the mum of the little one that did it was mortified

Right best go as Thomas is wailing and Ben is after some pudding - speak to you all later Beks

BEKsmum · 15/02/2006 18:21

Forgot to say Tex of course it's ok for Toby to come - my parties are always big, strangely enough I don't like going to parties myself but love throwing them for the kids!!

If you Cat me your address I'll pop the invite in the post, Ben is really pleased he's coming

Beks

Diege · 15/02/2006 19:52

Evening everyone! Nothing much to report here, just wanted to say hello .
Interesting to read people's weaning experineces so far - I'm happy to stick with milk for as long as possible (3rd baby thing!). NOVA: on the hair front, I would say 'don't cut it!!!', as IMO, a ponytail is more hassle-free than a short hair-cut and you can totally scrape it off your face ('council-house face lift!)to avoid their little mitts grabbing it! For some reason I thought you had a jaw-length bob? BTW, if you want to experience real pain, get hair extensions and wait for them to grab vice-like at those! (get OFF mummy's bonds!!!!)Well, I'm sounding rather Paris-Hilton like, so going to clean the rug to get back down to earth .
Diege

beartime · 15/02/2006 20:54

Well Busy, personally I'd tell him not to go near ds2 unless under my supervision and give him a spanking if he disobeyed (now I know you'll yell at me!) And with leaving him I don;'t even like leaving ds with an adult in another room!

Oh Golden - you poor thing. I just read yesterday about postbreastfeeding depression - I'm dreading stopping cos I enjoy it too. I think 3 months is fabulous with twins though

Nova - maybe a 3mth growth spurt?? Mine just had his. And I waer my hair down once a week for a treat I would say ask DH.

BoB I had a bassinette but ds didn't like it, so I ended up with him in my lap for the whole 11hr flight - and it was fine, apart from had to get DH to get things for me! In fact I enjoyed it! Try and get a bulkhead though as there's more room in front, and you can lay him on the floor on a blanket.

novadandypowder · 15/02/2006 22:03

Hmm I keep thinking 'i'll go for it' and then I get cold feet. It wouldn't be the first time I'd cut it all off, but I do always seem to end up back at a shoulder length bob. It's just that my hair is quite thin anyway and with the amount thats falling out post baby it's looking quite sorry for itself. I'm shedding more hair than the cats at the moment!!

I think you're right though, I should ask DH what he reckons, after all he's the one who has to look at it. When I mentioned it last week he said 'but then you'll look like a boy', but I've taken the pictures of Sienna Miller out of Closer magazine this week so he can see what I mean.

Beartime - you mean 4 month growth spurt, Natalie is 4 months today . She's definitly resisting sleep in the afternoon all of a sudden, the childminder had no luck in getting her to have a decent nap, so she was awake from 3.15 - 7pm, and needless to say was VERY tired and grouchy before bedtime.

Decided to pack away/get rid of a vast majority of my clothes. I think it's a post baby/turning 30 crisis. I want to look more yummy mummy than scummy mummy, so I went shopping today and got some lovely stuff to start with, but I need to add a bit more. I've totally lost my identity though so I had to enlist the help of the shop assistant much to his delight.

Karmamother · 15/02/2006 22:20

Nova, I'm thinking about cutting mine too, although I couldn't go as short as Sienna...I'd look like a boy. My hair goes down below my boobs (so its 3 ft long, ha ha.) I'm thinking about a bob as they're back in. Prob with short hair is you usually have to do something to it to make it decent in the morning.

Beksmum, good on ya for buying pre-made food. You have enough to do. The organic stuff's very good so that eases any potential guilt.

BoB, very impressed with your duck-stuffing talents.

Golden, what a mammoth task it must have been to feed two. Know what you mean about feeling a little sad at stopping. I'll be the same when it's my turn.

Beartime, yup, still loving that chocolate.

Busy, sorry to hear about those hammer injuries. I do think the naughty step is a fantastic thing. Not just to help them learn but also to stop you wanting to throttle them!!

Had 3 mums & 4 babies round today & had a great time. Unfortunately DP was upstairs trying to sleep after his night shift. At one point all 5 babies were squawking at once. He said he could hear Ella above all of them. We'll be meeting up every Wednesday & we're really bonding as a group so I'm soo chuffed to have made some RL friends. Will be letting them into the MN secret soon!

Hi to everyone else.

browniechick · 15/02/2006 22:32

Hello All - Thomas's second set of jabs went ok yesterday - he was a brave little soldier! It was such a shame, he had just nodded off when the nurse hit him with the first jab - he woke up quick, then screamed for a second. Calmed down nicely, then she hit him with the second in his other leg . To be fair though he only screamed for about 5-10 seconds, then slept most of the afternoon. He was chattering away as normal by the evening and went to bed to sleep by 6:45pm - so overall a non-eventful day (I did give him a shot of calpol as a pre-emptive strike though!)

Have surpassed myself by making a second batch of soup today - this time it is celery, leek & potato, will see what DH thinks of it when he takes it to work tomorrow. Will then dig out both recipes and post if anyone is interested?
It all started cos was thinking when I start to wean T, might encourage me to eat more veggies as would make yummy homemade soups and stuff - my Auntie then proceeded to give me a spare blender and the recipes for a couple of her soups and the rest as they say is history!

Glad to hear everyone is ok, am going to take T to the baby clinic tomorrow to weigh him - am guessing he is nearly approaching the stone mark!! Can hardly believe it! My guess is he'll be 13lb 12 - so we'll see how close I am tomorrow!
Good night all, hears to a quiet and peaceful night!
Brownie & Thomas

tessasmum · 15/02/2006 23:21

Ok, can I add a really scary toddler vs baby incident from this afternoon? I went to get the washing in leaving Tessa at one end of the sofa watching Madagascar and Ash at the other. I could see Tessa from the washing line so knew all was well but in the time it took me to get from the corner of the house, through the kitchen and into the living room (about 10-15 secs) she was at his end with a cushion over his head, leaning on it for all she was worth
I was horrified at the time and have felt worse and worse about it as the evening has worn on. (Beartime DO NOT dwell on this, your dreams will come back!)
Needless to say the naughty step was put to good use and she got her first dose of 3 minutes on there as I needed to calm myself and poor Ash down.

Brownie - if you are after a few more soup recipes I've got some good ones. There was the recipe swap thread from a few months ago, I never did go and find it though I kept thinking I would add a few things. Anyone help?

Karma - glad you are sounding more cheerful. The post-natal group I met were an absolute Godsend as I was new to the area. About 6 of us really clicked and have been good friends ever since, all now dealing with 3/almost 3 year olds and most on No 2 as well. Just be prepared for a birthday fest come November

Another idea for a flight is to give the baby to DH if possible when coming in to land. Tessa was great on her first flight (at about 4 months) until we started to descend, she wouldn't bf and her ears wouldn't equalise. She SCREAMED the place down throughout the descent and promptly threw up all over me as soon as we landed

A bf-ing poo question so avoid if you want to
No idea what happened with Tessa but its only recently that Ash has gone from the luminous yellow 'run-through' to the cottage cheese stage! What are others experiences? I'm sure it must mean that his digestive system is maturing but have no idea if its happening quite late or if its about the right time (he's 14 weeks) Not concerned, just curious.

Right, better get some sleep as Ash has been waking in the night for the past 5 nights so may not be far behind you BEKS.
Night night

beartime · 15/02/2006 23:26

Nova - sorry I forgot you had your baby before I even joined this club! Mine is suddenly resisting sleep at night, where he went down well in America, but he might be still jetlagged?

Karma - don't like the sound of all those babies!

Brownie - good idea giving him a shot of calpol preventively - I should have done that as when mine woke up from his sleep he was screaming his head off! I'd love to see the soup recipes.

Caleb's bang on the 50th centile after not having had him weighed since December so I'm happy and HV was surprised at him sleeping so long in the night being breastfed (I didn't think it made that much difference??)

beartime · 15/02/2006 23:47

Oh Tessa that's scary. I'm so glad I don't have a toddler, otherwise I would definitely have nightmares again!

Ifd by cottage cheese you mean little lumps, mines been doing that for a while now, but floats in between that and runny. Don't have a clue what it means and never seen bf poo b4 so I didn't even know it was yellow until it came out the first time! I wonder what makes it yellow...

beartime · 16/02/2006 07:16

I read somewhere that babies can go 13hrs between feeds at night by 13wks, so I'd been gradually reducing my 10pm feed. Then last night I tried dropping it and he slept right thru from his 6pm feed till his 7am feed! Yay! Right now I'm having to lean right back tho cos there's so much milk one side that he's coughing and spluttering (and giggling in between, LOL) So anyone who's doing a latenight feed, there's some encouragement to try dropping it

beartime · 16/02/2006 07:17

sorry about all those e-mails in a row

Diege · 16/02/2006 08:24

Morning everyone! Have quickly skim- read the posts, so have yellow poo, cottage chesse, a naughty Tessa, and Nova's new hair running through my mind! Have been thinking about hair-situation NOVA, and now think go for it, a la Sienna, as once it's in your mind, you have to get it done TESSASMUM: what a shocking experience for you...if it's any consolation, it's perfectly normal and not a sign of anything sinister going on (which of course you knew!)We use naughty step too, though with mixed results (I wanna go on the naughty step..waaaa!!!). I'm sure Tessa has learnt her lesson .
BEARTIME: I'm doing GINA F, so will start gradually bringing 11pm feed forward to 10, and then gradually start reducing amount IF she's still sleeping through . Remember holding onto the a last couple of ounces with dds1 &2, until my mum pointed out that 2ozs was hardly responsible for her sleeping through! I read somewhere that the whole sleeping through thing is more due to their weight than age, and that the heaviest babies are sleeping through earlier???!!?? (but that ,frustratingly, they are the ones still having night feeds as they like their grub so much .
Well, someone's tired after a 6 am start, and is letting me know it ...
Diege (tired too!)

goldenoldie · 16/02/2006 09:16

Yea - 2nd night. Down at 6:30, feed at 11pm and the straight through till 7:30 this morning. Starting to feel human again with all the extra sleep.

Diege - I dropped the night feeds as the twins were waking twice but only taking an ounce or two before going back to sleeep, so clearly not hungry.

Busy/Tessa - I never leave my twins alone with toddler - but then I don't have one!!! When friends with toddlers come over, they don't mean to, but if I am not right on top of it, the twins end up being poked and bashed about. Toddlers always seem to go for baby's eyes.......................

Nova - I'd love to be at the stage where I can treat myself to new clothes. Have a lot more weight to lose first. Know what you mean about being a yummy and not a scummy mummy.

Karma - your house must have been like mine yesterday. Had two other twin mums over - six babies in the house all under 5 months!

Rodeo · 16/02/2006 10:05

Morning!

Dp has gone to Prague this morning so I'm on my own til Monday Think I might be on here a lot! When children are asleep, at playgroup/school etc of course!!

Nova, I've been toying with the bob idea myself, I'd love to feel a bit trendy! And I never wear my hair down unless I'm going out! Actually looked quite nice when I went out on Monday, I washed it, scrunched it around a bit and put a little clip in the side a la Chantelle!! That is the most I ever do with it though!

Busy, sorry to here about your 'incidence' Alex is not quite/only just(?) 2 though (still a baby himself) so he probably did it for no reason whatsoever! Like toddlers do! It certainly wasn't malicious. I would just put it down to experience, don't feel bad, and it'll be in the back of your mind now so you won't put them in that position again It is horrid to see babies hurt and cry but he'll have forgotton about it by now. You know Alex the best and know he's lovely, I wouldn't have given it a second thought if it was me!

Golden - Are you sure there's no drugs involved!! That is brilliant! To have 2 of them doing it - I take my hat off to you love!

BOB!!!! I am physcic after all!!! But I still don't know how to spell it! LOL!! How do you spell it???!!! Pyschic? Phsycic? God they all look wrong

Right off to have coffee with friends and then into town to see an old school friend and her dd - ooh get me, aren't I the popular one ...

I'll be on later no doubt x x x

OP posts:
LaylaandSethsmum · 16/02/2006 10:17

Beartime ahen you say what the chances are do you mean of getting pg again? sorry if i'm being thick. If you are not bf then you can potentially ovulate straight away but mostt woman take around 8 weeks from the initial post natal bleeding to have a period again but you will ovulate before you have that first period of course.

babyonboard · 16/02/2006 11:44

Morning all..
god i'm dreading the first period, especially after bleeding so much post birth.
ah well, will be nice to be back on the pill

golden - thats amazing! you must have a really good routine/ technique
or just have incredibly well behaved babies...
getting a proper stretch of sleep really makes the world of difference doesn't it..

last nights dinner was amazing, it was great to get in the kitchen and cook up a storm, these days dp does it mainly, but i've told him from now on he can have 'oskar' time after work, while i shut myself in the kitchen and cook - it's like therapy for me..teehee

nova - any decisions on the hair? it's true it will be a bit more effort..i always forget that when i go short, or get a fringe cut in and then curse it every morning when i look like i've got a birds nest on my head..lol
i'm hoping to start gymboree finally next friday btw..have you seen my cousin there at all? (or someone resembling her description..lol)

I'm just rotating the baby clothes as oskar is moving into the bigger sizes now - had to laugh wwhen I pulled out some velour sleepsuits my aunt bought him, she said 'i got velour as it's easier to iron' - snigger - i don't even iron my own clothes,
god i'm a tramp..and so's my poor baby..lol

i'm meeting tex111 for coffee this afternoon, shoould be fun, but i'm determined to do the laundry and finish packing for the weekend before I go..
what am i doing sitiing at the computer..lol

hope you all have great days!it's lovely and sunny here, hope it keeps up.
