sorry fennel missed your message - I think working this hard while pg can't be good for you!

MrsD - hope you start feeling better soon. I don't think moving while expecting/newborn helps. We moved when ds was born (as in came home to stay 4 weeks with inlaws) then moved to wantage. I was so miserable I wanted to cry all day every day. Then once we moved to Thatcham it all seemed a little better. If we had stayed in Wantage any longer, I think I'd have ended up rather depressed, which is something I can only be thankful for didn't happen!
Do you go into newbury a lot? If so you've probably seen me gawking at your e3.. we've decided to get one and there's about 3 I've seen around Newbury!

LJ - glad the morning sickness has eased off. I've put on 6lb since becoming pg (not including the nearly stone I lost! it sounds better that I haven't put on a stone in 5 weeks!) I'm really making up for not eating! Hard to believe I'm nearly 2/3 through...

Ds had a lvoely birthday saturday, it's strange counting down the events to new baby is due...

LucyJones · 17/04/2006 16:14

The sickness has come back again unfortunately - especially travel sickness!! 18 weeks now. Glad everyone is having hapy April b/days Smile

Dottydot · 18/04/2006 10:49

grrrr - ds2 is really testing us at the moment - his favourite word is 'no' - he even came up to me today and before I said anything, said "no!" to me.... It's really weird 'cos I'll admit he's been my favourite - my baby - since he was born, but now it's changing and ds1 is being so lovely and adorable - over the whinging 3 year old stage and ds2 is driving me completely bonkers..!

When do they both get to be lovely and happy and good??! Grin

LucyJones · 18/04/2006 10:54

When they leave home!!

hewlettsdaughter · 18/04/2006 16:55

Grin LJ (sorry to hear the sickness has come back though).

MrsD hope you are doing ok.

Dottydot · 18/04/2006 19:39

We got our 2 year old questionnaire thingy in the post today - they don't do a face to face check in our area - and the only question I got stuck on was "does your child express a preference for using a particular hand?". I had to say 'don't know'...Blush I think he uses his right hand more, but couldn't swear to it - have your 2 year olds decided on a hand yet? Felt proud that he's now stringing 9/10 words together - but not when every sentence starts with "I don't want to...."

MrsDoolittle · 19/04/2006 08:55

Hi Ladies, Thank you for your kind messages Smile
I had a follow up GP appointment yesterday. Things haven't been great for me over Easter, ds has still been crying constantly, everyone has had useful ideas on how to make him better but they've all coem to the same end Sad
However, it does seem that finally I have a good GP who suggested reflux yesterday when I cried all over her shoulder about how miserable I was. Anyway, I gave him loads of Gaviscon last night and the effect has been amazing. God please let it last and give me a happy baby..

Lunavix, we can get together in Newbury if you like? Hopefully my upbeat outlook this morning is not too short lived.

Sorry about the nausea LJ, it's awful I know. The anti depressants are having the same effect on me at the moment.

Dottydot · 19/04/2006 13:11

Mrs D - brilliant news about the Gaviscon - I really hope this carries on helping - and hope you're starting to feel better very soon.

hewlettsdaughter · 19/04/2006 20:48

Me too, MrsD. Hang on in there.

Tracyk, hope everything is going smoothly with the move. Fennel - how is Exeter (apart from being lovely weather-wise)?

fennel · 19/04/2006 20:54

Mrs D, I hope things get better soon

dot i have no idea which hand dd3 favours. i thought most of them didn't show much preference at this age.

HD, we are enjoying Exeter, thanks. plenty to do and it's very friendly. if we could just transport our old house and some of our old friends here it'd be perfect. am trying to work up the enthusiasm to go to some toddler groups etc to meet people but can't quite face it, on toddler no 3 i feel a bit jaded with such activities.

hewlettsdaughter · 19/04/2006 21:37

Have never really done toddler groups much myself actually (I leave that to the childminder!). I see there is an active thread on Exeter though - so there must be some mumsnetters near you!

Dot - forgot to reply re the hand thing. I have no idea which hand dd favours either.

Dottydot · 21/04/2006 08:42

oh good - I thought I was being neglectful Mummy not knowing immediately which hand ds favours!! I think at the moment it's whichever hand is nearer the food/pens/remote controls..!

Chuffed · 21/04/2006 10:17

Happy birthday to the little ones that I missed hope you had great days. dd is still walking around singing happy birthday to herself and everybody else in the family.
I think she favours the right hand but then she will suddenly use her left. She seems to have more control with her right though - I suppose time will tell.
MrsD so glad that you finally found a gp who had a clue, having the reflux diagnosis was a godsend to us and we now have a very happy young man who is in fact so hungry all the time now that we are starting solids Blush I am getting sick of the hourly feeds all day, he is just guzzling stuff.
The move went well pretty stressful and the house looks like a bombsite but we are in - yay!!!
Chat soon

fennel · 21/04/2006 21:25

dd3 is 2 tomorrow. she somehow must have heard of the terrible 2's as she's had a personality transplant just this last week or so - she's an utter nightmare, screaming and tantrumming whenever anything upsets her. which is most of the time. am at the end of my tether today with her.

where's my angelic baby gone? Shock (dot, you're not the only one to have had a favourite, I have felt bad for 2 years how strongly i preferred dd3. i think it's changing now though).

Dottydot · 22/04/2006 09:21

aww - happy birthday Fennel's dd3!! Smile

Chuffed · 23/04/2006 05:59

Hope you had a good day Fennel. Quickly may this behaviour pass!

Dottydot · 25/04/2006 21:31

awww - ds2 has started jumping!! Probably way behind lots of his peers but physical stuff definitely isn't his strong point - he's still falling off furniture, but he's been trying to jump for ages and today has managed to get both feet off the ground - and not fall over! I was soooooooo proud (for no proper reason at all!) Smile

LucyJones · 26/04/2006 19:16

aw bless Smile Ds still can't figure out how to climb the steps and get himself down the slide at the playground. Does anyone else have this or is he behind?!! He climbs the stairs fine at home so it gets a bit frustrating!!
Dh wants to potty train this summer but I don't think he'll be ready. he doesn't say when he's going to the loo, although he does sometimes point at his nappy if he's done a poo. Would be great if he were trained before new baby comes in September but can't see it happening somehow. Also need to move him into a bed over the summer so we can use the cot for the baby. Dh wants to put him intoa normal single bed instead of buying a toddler bed. Anyone any experience of that or will nights turn into a 'mare?!!

tracyk · 26/04/2006 21:06

Yah - am back in the land of the living - broadband has been installed in the new house!!
Boxes still everywhere - but can' be arsed to empty them all - I half heartedly move a few things out every now and then.
ds is in 2 nurseries. Mon, Tues and Thurs in one and Wed, Fri in another. Big change as he used to run into nursery and not even notice if I'd gone or not - now he howls and tries to hold onto me. He is quite unsettled at the mo. I've put him in a single bed - the toddler bed we had was far too small and he fell out of it constantly. But now he won't go for a lunchtime nap in it - he just gets up and toddles through to the lounge! If I take him for a long car ride - he will stay awake for about 30 mins before falling asleep.
I shall give things another week or so to see if he settles down.
Hope all is well with the rest of you.
ps ds is 99% left handed.

LucyJones - we got ds1 a child's bed from Ikea when he was 2.4 and it's done him fine, so our plan is to get bunk beds for ds1 in September (he's been mithering for ages and it means we'll have a spare room if we have guests as we'll be able to put ds2 in the bottom bunk), and give ds2 the Ikea bed for his room, which is big enough for a grown up to sleep in. Phew! Was going to do an Ikea link but they don't do the one we bought - but they've got lots of others and we liked them because they're a decent size but nice and low - ds1 fell out every night for about a fortnight when we transferred him!

ds2 can climb up the steps on slides, but can't for the life of him figure out how to sit down at the top - because there's not much room he can't work out how to do it!! So there's usually then some howling/shouting and we have to plonk him down..!

Welcome back Tracyk!

tracyk · 26/04/2006 21:20

The single bed we got was actually bunk beds from Ikea - blooming expensive - £260 - but nice and sturdy and can be made into single bed now and bunk bed up top later on.
Also handy for being able to lie along side ds when reading story before sleep (and also for when waking at 3am!!)

hewlettsdaughter · 27/04/2006 22:05

DS went from cot bed to single bed, can't remember exactly what age though. DD is still in her cot - we don't plan to move her until either she is too big for it or she starts climbing out of it.

Good luck in your new homes Chuffed and tracyk!

Is the Gaviscon still working MrsD?

Chuffed · 29/04/2006 10:26

Isn't it awful moving, don't envy anybody the experience. We are still living around boxes and will be until we can find room to put things.

dd climbs everything in sight and is a bit of an abnormal child in the physical sense so wouldn't go comparing her to yours LJ. Was thinking today she might enjoy going to the indoor rock climbing with her Dad. She is ridiculously co-ordinated, got a tennis racket for her birthday and can hold the ball in one hand let go and hit it with the other. Going to take her down to the courts when I get a fine day.
We have a mattress on the floor at the mo and she sleeps fine. We are going to build a corner bunk bed unit eventually but she is OK there for now.
Things are going OK, got the cold bug at the mo so feel like I'm missing a few brain cells etc but it'll pass and in the meantime ds has done 10-6am two days in a row so hoping for the best.
We have started solids with him already, I know can it be that soon but he is on 3 meals a day and just guzzles an amazing amount, reminds me of what your ds2 used to be like Dot. dd never was able to eat the equivalent of a whole can of stuff but we put his meals into an empty one to serve and he ate a full small can of banana and rice and milk today for dinner...1/4 of a weetbix with 1/4 banana for breakfast and breastfeeds about every 2 hrs during the day. He still only weighs 12.5pounds not sure where it is going.
Anyway better get to bed, hope all is well, keep in touch.
