Hi Bee sorry for not welcoming before

yep, me and scones were due last Oct with our second and Stangirl has a even smaller gap. I still mostly post on here as DS's thread is very full and I know everyone here so much better.

BeeMyBaby · 06/04/2012 20:30

scones DH is still studying so we all live with my parents who have been incredibly kind not to boot us out yet, and after returning to work when DD1 was 4 months old, I'm not returning to work until DD2 is 8 months old - maternity leave has been such a great bonding time for DD1 and I - I feel I'm catching up on so much missed time. penguin I'm not sure I could have coped with a smaller gap, as I didn't manage to TT DD1 until DD2 was a month old, I can't imagine having to cope with changing two sets of nappies at once! (incidentally DD1 did her first poop outside today, luckily had a spare dog poo bag!).

AbsB · 06/04/2012 20:33

I have this awful flu and chesty cough. The cough came from DD but she's full of beans and I have no energy, shivery, watery eyes and a really sore throat. Crappy. Thanks for asking Scones. Luckily DP is here until Sunday so he's being a star! [busmile]

PA sounds like she must be coming round. Fx she is on the mend.

Right, back to "Come Dine with me"... sorry, illness is always an excuse to watch shit telly! [bugrin]

StoneBaby · 06/04/2012 20:37

Hi bee

well we're back home. We had a lovely week away stating in Southampton and visiting Longleat and Beaulieu. DS was a cheeky monkey little angel who stated up until 9pm (but still woke up at 6.30am)
His language has really come out both in English and French and he now repeats words. Some words still aren't correct as tiger is kit Hmm for example. We went to Ikea and bought him a pillow and duvet as I can't face spending money on a summer grobag.

IC great news on the maternity clothing.

scones are you settling in?

PA how is your DD doing?

BeeMyBaby · 07/04/2012 08:30

stone are you bringing up your DS bilingual? We are trying this but I was a bit nervous at first as DD1s speech seemed quite far behind other children. I think the 'k' sound is quite hard for children to make so at least the sound is impressive even if its not the correct word!

StoneBaby · 07/04/2012 08:49

Yes we are a few here. mous and I in French, soc in German, IC in Spanish and rainbow in chinese.

StoneBaby · 07/04/2012 08:50

Forgot to ask what's your language?

BeeMyBaby · 07/04/2012 10:55

Oo lots of bilinguals! Its Berber with a little bit of arabic mixed in

StoneBaby · 07/04/2012 13:01

IC what brand is the humifier you use in your DD's room? A friend of mine is after one.

We went to an egg hunt this morning, DS enjoyed it a lot.

bee give your language a go, it's not because your DD1 has got less language than the others children that it's linked to bilinguism. Smile

PA how is your DD today?

PenguinArmy · 07/04/2012 17:31

well she is very grumpy which I take to mean she is on the mend. Temp was still over 40 at 8am, but hasn't been there since and it would have had to time to climb so hopefully this is it as far as the fever is concerned.

LeMousquetaireAnonyme · 07/04/2012 19:13

PA I hope DD gets well soon. DD1 had a fever of 40 for 3 days and 3 more days of highish temp with the flu, or did your DD had roseola before? (3 to 5 days high temp when the temp goes down a mild rash will appear).
Anyway if she still has 40 gain you should take her to the GP

LeMousquetaireAnonyme · 07/04/2012 19:14

PS: the easter bunny is tired and the girls are still tossing and turning

InmaculadaConcepcion · 07/04/2012 20:06

Ooh, another bilingualist - join the club, bee!

Aw PA your poor old DD, I do hope whatever it is lets up soon.

SB it's this one - we've been very pleased with it so far. It's very quiet, so can be used when we have to share a room with DD without it disturbing our sleep.

We're off to Cornwall tomorrow to spend time with my family, so posts will be intermittent for the next week. Take care, All and Happy Easter [busmile]

SurvivalOfTheUnfittest · 07/04/2012 20:28

Welcome Bee. I'm a mum of 2 aged just 4 and my Feb 2010er, ds2. He is very big and boisterous and is giving both ds1 and I a run for our money! I think the 2 year old and 4 year old testosterone surges are coinciding here and it's a little wearing to say the least!
Ds2 did a spectacular vomit for dh yesterday and dh did a very good job of cleaning up before I got back with ds1 from swimming. Obviously, we've been in quarantine today and will lie low tomorrow too. It's been quite nice to have a family plat day.
Laptop leaf is bust so can only keep up now on my phone. Let's hope it works!
Have a lovely Easter All-and a happy holiday IC. Hope dd continues to recover PA.

SurvivalOfTheUnfittest · 07/04/2012 20:30

I hate predictive text! Plat equals play and leaf equals lead! I'm not sure why all started with a capital either!!

BeeMyBaby · 08/04/2012 04:00

stone sorry to be more clear those are DHs languages, I just speak plain old English but I'm trying to slowly learn Berber through DD1.

LeMous I'm not sure how many words DD1 can actually remember, the majority of the time she just parrots back the last word of my sentences. Im lucky that she's small though (probably just slightly taller than a 1yr old, and still very bald) as people think she's advanced instead of slightly behind and if I don't know them I just stay stum.

Hi survival, I must say having children I never expected to have to clean up so much vomit!

So DD1 has taken to calling every adult woman mama and screaming at them in frustration if they don't respond (originally it was just my mother and I), but this week she started calling SIL mama, then all the mothers at her toddler group... and today the waitress at pizza hut... ugh. I think she is confused because other children call their mothers mama and I call my own mother mama, DH wants to try to get her to call me Yema (mum in Berber) to remove confusion... perhaps I should just go for it.

LeMousquetaireAnonyme · 08/04/2012 06:27

bee It is normal to call every women mama for her it is like "lady". But Yema is nice. I have several friends who regrets not teaching their children arabic or (that their parents didn't teach them). Beber is a rich culture too. It is more difficult to keep the dad language so you might need special efforts.

Just to state the obvious it is not a good idea to feed chocolate to a 2 yo at breakfast! [buwink] happy easter!

Bearcrumble · 08/04/2012 10:23

Hi everyone and welcome Bee. Happy Easter!

Thanks for all the lovely congrats and good wishes.

We came home yesterday afternoon - was so happy to be out of hospital. I had pretty good care on the whole but the good midwives really showed up the not-so-hot ones on the postnatal ward. During the caesarian I had a really lovely midwife looking after me and both a consultant surgeon and consultant anaesthetist and their students. My BP dipped after I got the spinal and I went a bit faint and woozy but they gave me something to bring it up again (this is quite common) and everything seemed to go well. She was a lot smaller than estimated. My 37 week scan estimated her weight at 7lb something then and two weeks later she was just 6lb. I was only measuring 36 cm at my last midwife appointment so I wasn't that surprised. Goes to show that growth scans are quite unreliable.

She is a really lovely baby - very calm and contented. She doesn't like being put down - she did sleep on my chest most of last night and woke to feed every 2 to 3 hours. I'm sure as she gets bigger she'll spend more time awake. She's feeding well although it takes quite an effort to get her to open her mouth wide enough to latch on and even when I do she then spits out loads of boob and wants to just hang onto the nipple which isn't good. She must be getting plenty though because we have lots of wet and pooey nappies. And it's not hurting. She does have a very small mouth I guess. I might post over in the feeding topic and ask.

I had quite an interesting mix of people in my bay on the postnatal ward. A drug addict who had to have a maternity support worker with her 24 hours a day, a lady who had to come back 2 weeks after giving birth because she hadn't washed her stitches at all in those two weeks and (surprise!) got an infection and quite a few people who seemed happy to let their babies cry for hours in their bassinets without picking them up. And it wasn't that they couldn't as partners are allowed to stay 24 hours a day in postnatal. So yes, I was very happy indeed to get home. My friend came over yesterday afternoon and we have BIL and SIL driving down today and PILs on Tuesday. I'm in bed and the little one is asleep in her moses basket beside me. I think she might be stirring and need feeding any minute. She is so cute! At first I thought she was nothing like DS but she does look quite a bit like him, just with dark hair.

PenguinArmy · 08/04/2012 12:00

sounds an err interesting ward bear glad you are home and happy and hope the non hurting while feeding continues for you. Enjoy the newborn sleeping part while it lasts. I don't think I put DS down for a week.

DD has never eaten a rice cake, just refuses (fair enough, not too keen myself). Today we offered DS one so naturally DD wolfed one down herself. I feel DS weaning will be a good thing for DD.

AbsB · 08/04/2012 15:42

just had a near death experience on the M25 after dropping DP at terminal 5. I was just following signs to the M40 and about to overtake someone in the fast lane, when my bonnet suddenly opened, flew up, smashed into my windscreen with a loud bang. The whole thing was crumpled and lying right across the windscreen. I was in darkness, no visibility, screamed, hit my hazard lights and managed to cross four lanes of fast traffic to the slip road and then to the hard shoulder. Some idiot in a white van on the inside lane wouldn't let me through despite the fact that my hazards were on and the car was obviously in trouble. Anyway, I jumped over the safety barrier and stood in the cold (without a coat because this sort of thing only happens when you leave the house without a coat and with flu!) and called the AA. They were brilliant and came in half an hour, towed me home. I am just so lucky to be alive and so thankful I decided not to bring DD.

LeMousquetaireAnonyme · 08/04/2012 15:52

AsbB Shock glad you are OK. hug your DD, can your sitter stay a bit to help you recover?

PenguinArmy · 08/04/2012 16:38

oh abs, you got some company while you calm down?

I had to emergency stop the other day with the 2 DCs in the car and I went to my neighbours house as soon I arrived home as had happened on the last roundabout. I needed that 20 mins just to recover myself. Have some Wine on me.

mous DD is coming out in a rash now so it could be that

Bearcrumble · 08/04/2012 17:07

Jesus, Abs you poor thing - but so fast thinking, well done for dealing with it so well. Hope you've had a stiff drink. I am having a panic attack just thinking about what you went through. xx

StoneBaby · 08/04/2012 19:35

abs Shock how scary this must have been. I hope you've recovered and had a drink to help.

PA roseola is probably the answer, especially if her temperature has gone and the rash is there. DS had it when he was 6 months old.

bc welcome home. I don't nvy your hospital experience.

BeeMyBaby · 08/04/2012 20:59

abs that sounds really horrendous!

BC what does your DS think of her so far?

penguin I'm hoping for the same kinda result with DD1 when weaning DD2.
