Bring on the birth stories and tales or triumph of parenting a newborn!

MrsTimeOut · 03/03/2012 04:49

Oh off to the antenatal thread to read birth stories! Congrats ladies!

QueenFee · 05/03/2012 01:01

Hello all :)
Louis is having a feedathon tonight so just catching up! Welcome mrstimeout!

Entaha, have you been in contact with your local bf support group? Sometimes a tiny change in latch can stop your pain. I am a bf peer supporter so feel free to ask if you have any questions.

Ds2 has been really stroppy this week. Its really hard to have patience with him even though I know its a reaction to the baby. Interestingly dd has also been acting up a bit. The only one seemingly fine is ds1 who is the one I expected problems from.

I'm tired but boy I feel better than 2 weeks ago. I hate late pregnancy.

Hv coming for 1st visit tomorrow. Oh joys, shes a bizarre woman with neatly zero people skills. No idea why she became a hv!

Hello all, congrats on all the babies, DS Rowan arrived on the 17th of Feb :)
Is anyone elses baby clusterfeeding/having fussy time? Rowans seems to go on and on and on.... but he is so cute :)

notcitrus · 05/03/2012 19:47

hello - yes pam, R is cluster feeding much of the evening/night, but otherwise doing well - hoping to avoid most of the problems I had feeding ds.

With luck she will avoid the lurgies that DP and I keep getting - may not technically be flu but almost as nasty!

PamBeesly · 05/03/2012 19:51

It seems so common NC, Rowan is DS1 so all new, hope you avoid all problems and your R is a dream :)

phlossie · 06/03/2012 16:33

Hello - marking spot on this here thread. Caspar is snoozing on me after feeding most of the day non-stop - I have a serious hunger on board! He's a great feeder - in fact I think he overfeeds so he poos about 8 times a day and has horrible griping/reflux. He's the first of my babies to take a dummy, so I'm using that to help through his unsettled phases - otherwise he uses me as a human dummy, gets a mouthful of milk and that exacerbates the griping...

phlossie · 06/03/2012 16:36

don't forget to add your babies to the stats thread!

ZhenThereWereTwo · 06/03/2012 20:16

Hi Phlossie, wow 8 poos a day!

I am lucky this time round, Nalani is feeding every 2 hours or so from both sides so I am getting considerably more sleep than I did with DD1 who fed every 20-30 mins through the night!

Midwives came today and she is nearly at birth weight, got HV coming tomorrow and it is my birthday too :)

FundusCrispyPancake · 06/03/2012 20:35

Hi all, happy birthday Phlossie Thanks

Welcome to newbies and babies, I'm glad there are some others who boycott the dreaded FB too!

I'm starting to get the hang of breastfeeding DD (and now that my milk has come in she is sleeping longer than 10 mins at a time and so am I), but it's taken a couple of days and she has lost weight so I'm off to the midwifes tomorrow for another weight check. I'm hoping to get a gold star not a slap on the wrist! Wink

Emz33 · 07/03/2012 06:54

Oh good, glad to hear it's not just me who is feeding constantly. Thought I must be doing something wrong! A few weeks ago I was dreading the three hourly feeds, now I'd kill for more than 20 mins sleep at a time. Is some form of torture!

ZhenThereWereTwo · 07/03/2012 19:18

DH got some free cachaca from work so I am just enjoying a cheeky birthday mojito. It will be my only drink for a while as try not to whilst breastfeeding. Have only had two sips and feel tipsy so waiting for after dinner to drink more Grin

Haven't really drunk in over three years as was pregnant with dd1 then breastfed her for two years, then got pregnant again a month after stopping breastfeeding her, will be a cheap night out for DH when we finally get one!

phlossie · 07/03/2012 20:30

ooh, alcohol... I can only dream at the moment as I'm co-sleeping. I'd have a glass of wine or half an ale while bf, but daren't risk it with the little chap in my bed.

Caspar has been asleep ALL DAY. My milk is letting down furiously, and I'm scared about what the night has in store for me, so I'm going to bed now. Night night.

Hope you had a lovely birthday, Zhen, mojitos and all!

ZhenThereWereTwo · 07/03/2012 21:27

Thanks Phlossie

Nalani has been asleep all day too after having been up in the night for an hour fussing. I am heading to bed shortly too expecting another night of fun and games. I keep soaking through my breastpads and tops too, might have to sleep on a towel.

notcitrus · 09/03/2012 20:05

One month in!
And it's certainly way easier than first time round - bf going well, still haven't started expressing any milk though plan to this week, less leakage (not that that's saying much!), some good nights of 3-4 hours sleep in a row with dc1 also sleeping through - and some horrible nights where as soon as dc2 falls asleep, dc1 wakes up demanding a cuddle/milk/a triceratops and I don't get more than 40min at a time...

R is starting to hold her head up, do smiles that might not just be gas, and has become an expert at throwing up in inconvenient places - ds never puked or even posseted at all so it's a bit new - and I'm finally understanding why people obsess over muslins!

Just a reminder for anyone in London, to go to the Real Nappies for London website and claim their £40 voucher for free nappies and wraps etc! Have just ordered some new adorable wraps to go over all the nappies I already have, so R will be the best-dressed baby in the summer when she's in just a nappy. :)
Forget the cost and the environment and not having to buy more suddenly - the main reason I use washable nappies is I was given a load and they are just so gorgeous! Blush

I got some of these: Cosmic and Cherry TotsBots wraps/AIOs

QueenFee · 11/03/2012 00:41

Oh I love those tots bots ones. My friend has them and they are soo cute. I'm using resuables too. Just sent off for my vouchers. You get 3 lots of £25 here over 18 mths.
I have enough nappies, could do with a couple more with dc3 going back into nappies sigh but plan to buy some gorgeous wraps. Not that you see much with boys just a peek over their trousers.

Feeding a lot here. Had a bad few nights. Have just let Louis sleep today as I think part of his crying was overtiredness. Just hope hes not awake all night now.

Hi all, our beautiful little girl L arrived by EMCS a week ago! She is adorable and we are completely besotted Smile Started off BFing but L not latching on great and reached a point where my nipples were so sore had to start expressing as an alternative. Have had BF support worker around and she said L has a slight tongue tie which might be affecting her latch.. Anyway going to head for one of the BF support groups tomorrow to try and get things going again. Dunno how the rest of you feel about photos of your children on FB but we decided against putting any of L up there (we have emailed photos instead). Everyone has been fine about it except one if my friends who sent me a big long email about why she thinks it's ok to put photos of kids up there... I'm livid with her for even raising the subject when 1. We've made our wishes clear and 2. I'm trying to get to grips with being a first time mum and recover from CS... She has 2 kids herself, I can't believe how insensitive she's being Angry Anyway, I'm going to ignore it and get on with far more important things like enjoying our gorgeous DD Grin

ZhenThereWereTwo · 11/03/2012 09:30

I was considering disposables NC once DD is big enough for it not to all slide out of the leg.

Congratulations GG hope the BF support group works for you tomorrow. I wouldn't put photos of my kids on FB either, tell your friend to mind her own business, your kids your choice, end of.

Hope you are not too sore after EMCS, this time round was my second EMCS and I have learnt not to overdo it too quickly. Only walk to your limit when you feel ready, don't push it as it will set back your healing. Use painkillers when you need to, don't feel bad if you stop and then have to take the odd one, the internal healing process can take a while once the external stitches come out. You will feel better soon, I am two weeks post section and walking around off meds, but don't be tempted to lift more than baby before 6 weeks as inside isn't fully healed until then and I know people that have split their stitches lifting too soon.

Emz33 · 11/03/2012 09:44

People should mind their own business! It's up to you if you want to post on FB!

Is anyone else feeding constantly?! Three hourly feeding would be amazing right now. We are feeding every hour pretty much.

notcitrus · 11/03/2012 21:30

Good luck with the bf group Goosey - my local one is lovely and has helped at least three babies with tongue tie in the last couple weeks.

As for FB - I haven't even posted on it in the last few months and don't link this username to it or any others at all, so if any of my baby photos were there I'd be livid! Actually the baby ones all look pretty like any other baby, but I don't have any online pics of ds being recognisable, and hardly any of me.

Feeding constantly - well 2-hourly in the day, fair bit in the evening, variable at night. I recall it got better around 6-8 weeks last time... there she goes again, time to feed...

phlossie · 12/03/2012 17:18

I'm a prolific Facebooker - but completely understand why anyone would feel uneasy about putting photos on there. Strange to have such a strong opinion about what other people do!

Congratulations on new arrivals. Caspar is doing well! And I'm loving the newborn stage more than my other two - DS was my pfb, and DD had horrible colic plus I had 20mo ds...

Gooseysgirl · 13/03/2012 04:57

Well ended up not going to BF support group today as our wonderful BF support worker rang to see how things were going and offered us some 1-1 time this evening! DD latched on and fed for 10 mins, latch improved... couldn't believe it as she has been on bottles if expressed milk since last Thurs and I thought she would try suckling too fast or would refuse the boob altogether. We are being referred to have the tongue tie checked out so be interesting to see how that goes. It would be so great to get her back fully on the boob but I must admit it has been a godsend that DH has been able to give bottles of expressed milk so I can catch up on much needed Zzzzzz.. he says it's like living in a cow shed at the moment Wink
Zhen.. I'm being as careful as I can with recovery from CS, funny but I had a feeling all along my baby would arrive this way so in the end it wasn't a huge ordeal... I just wanted her out safe and sound. Hospital sent me home with loads of pain meds which I've been taken, I'm now coming to the end of them and finding Panadol is doing the job fine instead.
Just got DD down a few mins ago so hoping to get a couple if hours kip... could be wishful thinking!! Smile

ZhenThereWereTwo · 15/03/2012 13:21

Glad you got the support you needed GG :)

How is everyone?

I seem to have a limpet permanently attached to my boob today, N must be on a growth spurt, she has put on nearly 0.5kg in last week!

Trying to get ready to leave the house, but feeding keeps throwing a spanner in the works.

QueenFee · 15/03/2012 22:14

3 hourly day and all nightly (well thats what it feels like) feeding here
Very shocked that someone feels they have the right to tell you to put pics on fbook. I happily put mine on but respect that others may have diff opinions.

I'm finding getting 4 on the school run in time quite challenging. Louis does a cluster feed session from 5-9 so hard to sort stuff out for the others. This too shall pass huh
