Nah, not bonkers at all- all parents worry, and probably us first timers more than anyone as it's all just so new, and so scary! I think the haddock can be put to one side Grin.

Thanks to moby I've managed to do my nails (vital, obviously), speak to my Mum, pull out all my maternity clothes and I'm off to do the sarnies.

The HVs are just overwhelmed round here (I sit on a board which was discussing the fact that we're one of the five pilot areas nationally to have the massive investment first) as there's a high birth rate and very high need area. Suits me though, given some of the experiences you're having, although I agree, HLCC, you'd think first-timers might get more attention.

SoTiredoftheWheelsontheBus · 17/01/2012 17:04

Am catching up on the thread after being offline for a couple of days, so sorry if I've missed any news. We've had our six week check, ds2 is fine, but GP is sending me for a scan as (tmi) I'm still bleeding nearly 7 weeks after the birth. Feeling fine myself though. Went to baby massage today which was nice. DS wasn't too sure at first, until he realised that if he turned his head he could watch the other babies, he was really relaxed (andnosy) then.

We haven't got into any sort of routine at all yet. The other night he went 5 hours between feeds (bliss!) which was definitely needed, as it felt as if he had been feeding constantly for the previous day. He's feeding (again!) now, when he's finished I'll pop him in the moby and go collect ds1 from the childminders.

By the way, I just wanted to post that I definitely feel like a mum - so far ds has weed on me, he's had projectile poo (took his nappy off at precisely the wrong moment, thank goodness for washable chair covers, it definitely went at least 1.5 metres!), explosive poo and leaky nappies, and the warm dribble of possetting down my cleavage - isn't motherhood fantastic Smile

mopsytop · 17/01/2012 17:44

Your post made me laugh sotired! I have had weeing and pooing after I have just cleaned her (sometimes one after the other so I have to clean her three times in a row!) and wee on the carpet but thankfully no projectile poo ! Only explosions through side of nappy onto clothes and sometimes she kicks her little feet onto her pooey bum and gets them covered in poo. Nice! Also have had lovely posseting of baby curd! Yum. And earlier scraped all kinds of icky gunk from in between her little clenched hands. All delightful :) still think she's gorgeous though! Goodness knows why :)

sevenswansaswimming · 17/01/2012 18:00

sotired I think early this morning I could have summed it up perfectly, 3am and I had baby sick in my hair.

If anyone gets desperate by the way I've learnt that if I vacuum with Eva in the wrap she's asleep within seconds, much easier than resorting to the car. Yes I was a mean mummy who tried to make her go an extra hour so I can put her to bed at 7.30 with DS.

OiMissus · 17/01/2012 18:11

Have got awful tummy pains. Must be something I've eaten... dunno. I'm in horrible pain. No "output" as yet, I just made myself sick to try and get rid of anything. Typical as DH is away tonight, I can't believe it - why tonight?!
If it is food related, will my breastmilk be affected - will I make Alistair sick too?

Xiaoxiong · 17/01/2012 18:27

Hello all - thanks for good wishes for my recovery and happy to say I have been home for 24h now - managed to roll on my side and get out of bed on my own (veeeeery slowly!) but the docs were right, it's going to be a much longer road to recovery than after the c-section. Have to say the pain of a burst appendix was far worse than labour as well.

Pirran seems to have returned to the breast ok but wants to feed 24/7 - not sure if it's comfort he wants but have lost all confidence I am giving him enough milk as since going on formula he is doing only 1 poo a day (down from at least 7-8). Also his latch has definitely deteriorated - he doesn't want to have anything but the actual nipple in his mouth so gets angry when I am stuffing areola in there too. So we have lost some ground but we will get back to where we were, I am determined.

I couldn't take a baby moon today as not yet strong enough to lift/position him so have been sitting on the soda, with him carefully placed beside me by my DH or SIL or mum for feeding when he grizzles.

We are going to keep one bottle of formula at night for now until I am a bit better, just to make sure I have at least some time to sleep at night and rest and recuperate.

Xiaoxiong · 17/01/2012 18:37

Oh no oi - if the pain starts out all over but goes into your bottom right hand side in front, please call the ooh GP. They came to our house to check on me at 3am when I told them I had a 4 week old.

Before that though, the pain was everywhere and they thought I had gastroenteritis or food poisoning - but said as long as I kept my hands clean and kept drinking water the baby would be fine.

Really hope you feel better soon!!

OiMissus · 17/01/2012 19:30

am paranoid now... did the cs in some way cause the burst appendix?

NorthernChinchilla · 17/01/2012 19:46

Welcome back tyel, you sound in remarkably good spirits given what you've been through recently. Really hope that you now have a much-deserved peaceful time, and that the bf is successful.

DarcieandSkysmum · 17/01/2012 20:29

Welcome back Tyel you've been thru a rough time I see. hopefully your home & on the mend now.

Oi I hope your okay?

My boobs feel engorged Sad even tho I'm expressing what seems like masses of milk - how do I slow down my supply?

I've done my hip in Sad hurts to walk, don't remember banging it or anything either - feels like the ball will pop out of the socket!

sevenswansaswimming · 17/01/2012 20:38

oi and darcies hope you're both ok.

tyel glad you're home and hope you have a speedy recovery and bfeeding gets back on track soon.

aethelfleda · 17/01/2012 20:49

Arg, phone ate my post. tyel I'm glad you're home and sound upbeat. Totally normal for baby to feed +++ when back on boob after a break.

oi, hope you're Ok. If it is D&V you will protect baby bu continuing to
bF as he will get your antibodies: drink lots of water though as if you get dehydrated he will feed more often if your milk supply drops.
Oral rehydration sachets are safe and you can get them from your chemist/GP. If you're really bad then off to the docs, madam!

AnAirOfHope · 17/01/2012 22:10

Hello

We had our 6 week check up and i'm fine, Hope is fine but has eczma on her face, neck and chest. The doctor give us cream to put on it and its already clearing it up. The HV is coming tomoro afternoon to do her weight-in.

As i have the all clear from the doc i'm taking Air swimming in the morning, I can't wait he is so good at it Smile

Glad your home Tyel

Oi hope your better soon

On a low note as DH had the last two weeks off as holiday to look after Air he is no longer allowed the time off for the meeting with HV and SW or our son's birthday Sad

I dont think he will have a holiday now untill the summer when we go camping as he is really busy in work Sad

hawthers · 17/01/2012 22:48

tyel good luck with reestablishing bf. We had a similar gap when ds2 was in hosp last week (god was it only 10 days ago that we were in icu). He fwd masses after and u worried that my supply had suffered but it appears to be all ok. Keep the faith and if you have any doubts get that bf counsellor in. At the same time take care of yourself as pirran needs his ma on as best form as you can manage and pushing yourself too far will knacker you more. Best of luck and will be routing for you that it goes well.

mopsytop · 18/01/2012 00:43

Hope you are feeling better Tyel. I had an emergency appendectomy a few years ago and can really sympathise-so so painful and hard to move after. I couldn't walk for days without nearly conking out-I recall the first time I left the house at least a week later (if not more) having to sit down on the supermarket floor to avoid fainting. I just cannot imagine how you are coping with a newborn. You are AMAZING to keep up breastfeeding. You are amazing full stop not to be a gibbering wreck! Don't overdo it, it's a big thing to recover from. I hope you feel better soon.

mopsytop · 18/01/2012 01:02

Baba asleep but i am sitting expressing to try and increase my supply. But I. Want. To. Sleep. Hey ho. If I don't put the effort in, my supply won't increase!

mopsytop · 18/01/2012 01:06

P.s. Tyel it's not at all a bad thing if he will take an occasional bottle. It means you'll be able to take a break now and then even once you're recovered. My sister's baby refused completely to take a bottle so my sister never got a break until she was weaned!

aethelfleda · 18/01/2012 04:59

Oops , DS just went 5 hours an I was knackered so didn't wake up.... so much for me saying I'd wake him if he went 4 hourly!!

Have tanked him up and hope the mummy guilt will go away soon :(

Hope some of you girls are sleeping!!

hawthers · 18/01/2012 05:44

Ds now won't go in the Moses basket and Dh back st work tom so he's been dispatched to the loft and f and I have the king size to ourselves. Attempting feeding lying downehich is sort of going ok but not a whole lot of sleep is going on in between snacks.

New plan of attack needed for tomorrow.

msbuggywinkle · 18/01/2012 05:44

DP is on Miri rocking duty, not normal for her she has been hugely sick and now won't settle. No temperature though so it is probably just one of those things.

oi I hope you feel better soon!

tyel I agree that you're amazing, heal quickly!

mopsytop · 18/01/2012 06:35

Minimopsy just went from 2am to 6:15 I woke up then so woke her up to feed. Is that too long between feeds? She took quite a lot of ebm & formula in the last two feeds before that with only an hour and a half between them.

DarcieandSkysmum · 18/01/2012 07:11

Mopsy That is fine between feeds. That's Sky's pattern at the moment.

Def don't think Sky is getting enough milk from the breast as when I feed from the breast she's awake almost 1-2 hrs later, when I express I know how much she's getting and goes the full 4hrs then. however, Sky is having 2 bottles of formula a day and they really do settle her. She sounds so sniffly right now bless her.

mopsytop · 18/01/2012 07:14

Mine too, she is a little snuffle bum at the moment. Her little nose sounds really blocked but she doesn't feel warm or anything.

DarcieandSkysmum · 18/01/2012 07:31

Sky sounds wheezy but not too bad so keeping an eye on it. her cold comes from the virus she caught last week Sad

Going to visit a friend today, she had a terrible birth experience 5 days after Sky was born and both our DP have gone back to work, so going over to see what I can do.

my birth story:

Waters broke 05:30am Tues 20th Dec. MW came out at 10am to check and confirmed they had gone and booked me onto labour ward for the next morning incase I didn't labour on my own - which I didn't!
Weds morning at the hospital for 8am, obs done, consultant seen - gel inserted and told to wait 6hrs for things to happen. Whilst we waited was xfered to ante/post natal wards - walked around the hospital and bounced on a ball but nothing - 6pm came and Labour ward was busy so had to stay overnight on ward until room came free on labour ward. was given anti biotics to cover any infection.
7:30 22nd Dec was taken to labour ward, obs done, consultant seen, chat about possible intervention/cs with syntocin drip induction and then dripped up at 10am. 11:10 my labour kick starts - by 1pm I was tired and just wanted Sky out (proud of myself for not screaming like a mad woman) so was examined and found to be 6cm. shot of Diamorphlne was given and within 20mins I was fully dilated. started pushing and Sky was born at 1:45pm. I didn't tear or graze either.
Sky's apgars were good. however, her temp was low, so when they tested her sugar levels they were 1.9 and should be 2.6 or above. She was latched to the breast & I expressed milk for a syringe which she had but still not good. was put on guidance protocol so breast and 25ml formula top-up every 2hrs until she could maintain her levels by 9pmish she still couldn't and was whisked to SCBU - scariest moment ever. was cannulised for anti-bs incase she caught an infection which might of been the cause for the sugars and was brought back down to me next morning but was monitored by paeds team every 3hrs. They were finally happy with her Xmas morning - cannulas came out & sugar levels were stable.
Still have to be monitored & so does her weight as if her weight drops her sugar levels will do too. Positive experience tho and we want to do it again lol.

msbuggywinkle · 18/01/2012 08:51

darcies if she is weeping and pooing, she is getting enough. 1-2 hour gaps can be normal for some bf babies. I'm sure you already know this, formula takes babies longer to digest which is why some babies will then go longer between feeds.

I'm slightly less zombie feeling now, lovely DP left me chocolate in the fridge which I am having for breakfast! We have friends coming round for lunch so next on my list is getting the nay wash out then sticking soup in the slow cooker for lunch.
