Yeah going to the nurse might be a good idea, seven.

air I know the main thing is to feed my baba but I know I wil feel guilty unless I try everything. I will give it 2 more wks anyway, going all outvto increase my supply this week and see ifcshe then feeds more the following week.

aethelfleda · 16/01/2012 19:04

air, if you're enthusiastic your 3 y o will love bowling (unless they are very noise sensitive-some of the alleys can be quite loud).

seven, I have a leftover preg test in my medicine cabinet: it's a non fancy Tesco test (no bells and whistles!) but PM me your land address and I'll post it first class to you tomorrow...

hawthers congrats on the great weight gain for mini-H!

KateM77 · 16/01/2012 19:31

Tyel sorry to hear about the appendix

I'm planning on going back on Cerazette. It's the only thing that seems to stop my menstrual migraines. Not that there'll be any bedroom activity given my current wonky anatomy :( Hospital appointment is on 6th Feb to see if they want to repair me.

Those of you planning a tiny age gap are very brave. I've got 20 months between my two and finding it exhausting.

Northern I've also booked a couple of nursery visits today. Want DD to go a couple of days a week starting ASAP. She was in nursery in London when I was back at work and it really did her some good. I feel like I'm not giving her all the stimulation she needs at the moment, and that I don't have enough time one-on-one with DS.

sevenswansaswimming · 16/01/2012 21:34

kate I know how you feel, I don't feel like I have enough time to devote to either of them at the moment.

I caved and told DH but he isn't too worried, I might ask him to get me a test on his day off. After realising I wouldn't be too upset if I was pregnant DH said he'd be happy to have another if it's what I wanted, now I don't know what I want. He was hoping to get his vasectomy done when he's on holiday next month so I need to decide soon.

aethelfleda · 16/01/2012 21:58

kate and seven, totally with you on the splitting-yourself conundrum. DD2 threw the most almighty strop today on the way home from school and she got so worked up my friend had to physically pick her up and carry her the last 30 yards home ( I had Ds in the wrap so couldnt pick up a flailing 4 year old in case she kicked him). My two just don't do meltdown, it was completely unlike her. Got home, ignored her wails, gave her a hot cross bun and within 3 minutes she was completely calm and singing "Hot Cross Buns" to her toy doggie. Weird. Can't help but think its related to the change in domestic arrangements with DS's arroval though.

BeeMyBaby · 16/01/2012 22:30

Air my DD1 turns 2 in two weeks and I've not thought about her birthday either, I'm planning to make a fun cake (but thats just because I enjoy making cakes) and other than that we're not really planning anything, not even sure what to get for her birthday.

I also realised last night that I should have already submitted my nursery choices to the council for DD1 and I'm cutting it pretty fine as my form needs to be in by the end of the month.

mopsy you are doing amazingly! I know when I was doing the Bfeeding/Ffeeding/expressing routine for a week I spent most of the week in tears and feeling numb (I felt so sorry for DD1 as she kept having to watch me cry) and I was beyond lucky that I was referred to a very good BFing councillor. I think you have seen one but if possible I'd encourage you to perhaps get your HV to refer you? I don't think a peer BFing group would have helped me much as I was beyond that but the BFing clinic I was referred to was run by midwives.

mopsytop · 17/01/2012 00:48

bee what did the bf counsellor do to turn it Around for you?

mopsytop · 17/01/2012 01:21

Minimopsy is feeding almost non-stop! Is this a normal thing? She won't settle, grizzles or all out bawls until she gets more milk, then conks out for 5 minutes, then starts again. She has also pisseyed some of it up which makes me worry she has taken too much. You're supposed to follow the baby's cue with feeding though, right?

mopsytop · 17/01/2012 01:37

posseted not pisseyed ha ha!

aethelfleda · 17/01/2012 03:46

hope everyone's doing OK out there tonight....

aethelfleda · 17/01/2012 04:03

Sounds like a growth spurt to me, mopsy...

hawthers · 17/01/2012 04:19

Blergh ds' have been tag teaming in hawthers towers. Dh has taken a ling shift but has bit puddles off to the lift to get some shut eye. I'm back with a boob in ds2's face. Hope the growth spurt does it's thing and goes away v soon

hawthers · 17/01/2012 04:54

STILL up over here. Exhausted and feel a bit sick I'm so tired. Dh also been up most of the night so it will be bicker-tastic here tomorrow.

Come on ds2 sutely you are full now and fancy a snooze

BeeMyBaby · 17/01/2012 05:21

mopsy she showed me which feeding position would be best for my problem, worked out what the problem was, gave me help on how to deal with the problem, gave me a strict feeding routine (feeds should take no longer than an hour- up to 30 mins on breast but if baby falls asleep, give up (so in my case I would only feed for about 5 mins), then top up baby (takes around 15 mins) and express for 15 mins switching breasts as soon as milk stops dripping(and do not express for longer than 15 mins), repeat 2 hours later (so new feed starts every three hours during the day and every four at night). Write down the time and volume of expressed milk & formula milk given at every feed. I can't really pinpoint which bit helped me which is why it was so important that I saw a BFing councillor but I went from BFing sessions which lasted only 2 minutes followed by top ups to only BFing in 4 days. The BFing councillor had expected it to take a good few weeks to turn around and had told me to come back the next week, but I'm ashamed to say that as the problem was fixed I didn't bother and I really need to send her a card to thank her as if I'd not seen her, I would not still be BFing as my actual midwives/HVs did not have the time and in no way had the expertise to help me. It was really good to basically be instructed by someone, rather than just the midwives saying 'well, er, the latch looks fine' - not ruddy useful.

mopsytop · 17/01/2012 05:34

Hmm I have basically been doing something very similar Bee, bf for 30 mins, top up then express. It hasn't improved anything :( maybe if I increase my supply this week it will help. So so tired though... Just want to sleeeeeeeeep !!!

DarcieandSkysmum · 17/01/2012 06:48

Hey ladies, sorry not been around been so busy - today will be quite quiet so will have chance to read and post.

Quick question tho: how much milkshould Sky be drinking at 3weeks 5days old?

mopsytop · 17/01/2012 07:11

I think between 90 and 120 ml of formula at each feed Darcies but it can vary from baby to baby. Mine sometimes wants a lot less, sometimes more.

DarcieandSkysmum · 17/01/2012 07:24

Mopsy Thanks Smile have started expressing milk for bottle feeding, topping up with formula as Sky's been poorly this week (need to keep her sugar levels up) she is drinking about 3.5oz per bottle every 3-4hrs so that's about right then - was worried that she wasn't getting alot as you can't really tell from the breast!

kiteflying · 17/01/2012 07:37

Bee, do you mind telling what the problem was?

AnAirOfHope · 17/01/2012 08:00

Morning

I'm sat with a coffee waiting for Air to wake up Grin

Hope in chair.

We all went to bed at 8pm, Hope woke for feed at 1am and then back to sleep and woke at 5am and back to sleep and she has just wake up now Smile

I wish she is settleing in to a patten.

Doctors this afternoon and playing pirates this morning

Have a good day everyone xx

aethelfleda · 17/01/2012 08:03

Hi hawthers, sorry I didn't post back, DS woke at 3 but then fed-fed-fed til 4.30 and I was so shattered by then I fell asleep feeding him lying down in bed... I'm a bit Hmm cos DS gave me four hours in a row last night, but given he hasn't been gaining, technically I should feed every 3 ... But he's feeding more than that the rest of the 24 hours and I'm knackered..
Will feel a lot better when I know he's gaining.

For those who haven't seen the other thread, tyel posted to say they are letting her home so please dust off your < pompoms> for her recovering and getting her DS back on the boob....

msbuggywinkle · 17/01/2012 08:26

Morning everyone!

We're having a bit of a chilled day today, DDs all still in their PJs, I will be spending the day doing some benign neglect (also known as planning the veg patch for the year and crocheting!). They will probably spend a large amount of time in the bath!

air sounds like a pretty good night, long may it continue! We love playing pirates too, I'm getting DD2 a pirate ship for her birthday in March.

hawthers argh to the tag teaming! Hope you got a few more hours in the end, or can spend today zombiefied on the sofa Grin

AnAirOfHope · 17/01/2012 08:40

He is still not awake Shock

MsB The great little trading co do a pirate rug and ship that i'm going to get Air for his birthday Smile

BeeMyBaby · 17/01/2012 09:13

kiteflying I think there were a couple of problems, firstly that my milk took till day 4/5 to come in (leaving DD2 with a 13% weightloss) so she basically gave up trying to feed by that point and I wasn't getting that 'full' feeling, so I started to express which helped my milk but I also apparently have a fast let down, so it would choke DD2 and make her feel falsely full too quickly (she would do 3 or 4 gulps then just stop) when it was just wind which was in turn increased the amount of time it was taking to feed her and then making her more tired.
mopsy I know you have been doing roughly the same but the only thing I would say is that you have mentioned a couple of times that the feeds are taking up to two hours, when it should be an hour max or you will just be far too tired. There may well be a different tactic required for you by this time that a BFing councillor would be able to suggest to you, as I think you previously stated that you had a slow let down.

OiMissus · 17/01/2012 10:14

Hey up! Good news about Tyel! and i'm very jealous of those who's DCs are going 3-4 hours in between night feeds. We seem to have lost our pattern a bit, but we'll get back.
The good news is that we've just been to Baby clinic, and Alistair is now 11lb 14oz - his dot is just under the 91st percentile line. He was 9lb at birth, 5weeks 3 days ago. So I guess we're doing ok. :)
Got a day of work planned, starting with a conference call in 15 minutes... I wonder if Ali will comply and fall asleep. I doubt it!
