Hi there. Anyone feel up to joining me from Jan 06 ante-natal thread?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
GeorginaP · 02/02/2006 12:02

Well, I spoke too soon.

Horrible night with Libby. She was up at 11.30, 2.30, 3.30, 5.00 and then I had to get in the car at 7.30 and go pick Mollie up from her dad's.

Am going to have to speak to him about alternative arrangements as it's not working with me going to pick her up every thurs morn and every other mon morning. Just throws everything out of sync.

How long til I can go back to bed?

What did everyone think to the BF prog?

OP posts:
HeyThereGeorgieGirl · 02/02/2006 12:14

Only me

Just changed my log in name as I needed something more cheerful.

iris66 · 02/02/2006 12:38

Georgie - It does sound like you could use some new arrangements for Mollie - what a faff!! Presumeabley your ex can't do the dropping collecting to help out?

Also a bad night last night here. I have given birth to a gannet I'm so glad I got new bras in town though so at least my boobs are more comfortable. I've shrunk from 38 to 36 - probably because he never dropped down properly before birth.

re the bf prog - one word ... disturbing (actually DD's word - repeated all the way through the prog). Personally I don't have any great problem with anyone bucking the "normal" way of doing things but IMVHO the family with the 7 yr old had got it wrong on soo many levels - not least treating the 2 girls so differently! (which was the worst thing IMO)
Personally - I plan to stop bf Dom once he's around walking age but only as I've no desire for him to walk up to me & lift my top up demanding milk. Each to their own though.

Chuffed - don't you the heat but what a star Brook is already!!!
Dom calling so must go
Hope everyone is having a relaxing day.

hi all

Another good night here, she fed at 11pm, then 3am, then 8am this morning, she had a good cluster feeding session between 8-10pm though (during BFing programme too). Finding it a lot more easier now, still a bit sore when she first latches but engorgement has calmed down a bit as well. A lot easier than last time with Abbie.

Talia is such a little pudding though, will have to buy her size 2 nappies as size 1 are already snug. Keep saying to DP to remember that Talia is already 4 weeks older than Abbie when she was born (spent a month longer in the womb) so she is bound to be bigger.

Speaking of nappies I have made the hard decision to go back to disposables for both of them. I absolutely adore using tots bots and fuzzi bunz etc but Abbie's a really heavy wetter and I was having to change them every 1 1/2 hours and that was with 2 boosters. Also having 2 in cloths would be difficult in this weather as we don't have a tumble drier and I cannot keep up with the washing/drying as it is. I know it's more money and I do feel really sad but I think it's time to cut me some slack and go back to disposables. However, I do have an awesome collection of cloth nappies to sell now will list them on mumsnet soon, most are size 2 tots and fuzzis but have a few Motherease is anyone here is interested?

Am going to order that Fisher Price swing today and a nice new playgym am also getting a dishwasher on Saturday (used to have one and really miss it so it was toss up between that and a tumble drier as theres not enough space for both). Need to sort out some new feeding bras (am using ones from last time) and they are bound to be the wrong size thought I would wait until boob job boobs calm down a bit though.

Have registered with a dentist too as part of a tooth feel out last week hate them but know I have to go and at least it is free for a bit.

Bit of a saga there oh on the breastfeeding programme loads of it was the 8 year old was plain weird. Thought the twins mum feeding 20 times a day was mad and the way she weaned them off was quite sad for them. I fed Abbie for a year and personally that was enough for me as I was pregnant by then. Can't imagine feeding Abbie now she's running around. Hoping to get to a year with Talia too.

better go hope everyone else is doing well too

lyra41 · 02/02/2006 15:57

sweetkitty

i'd be interested in the fuzzi's, what weight do they fit? i'm planning on starting with the cloth nappies in a month or so, i'm guessing alex will be about 12 -13lb by then.

cluster feeding, so that's what it's called is it? alex does a lot of that from about 5pm till bedtime (any time between 10 and 12). does tend to make the nipples burn doesn't it? i'll just go and put on some lansinoh while i'm thinking....

Eshay · 02/02/2006 16:09

Hi ladies,

I haven't been online much. First a week of sleeping and recovery and now my parents are staying with us for a week (from the Netherlands) so I'm a bit busy with them at the mo. I just wanted to say we're doing well and I will be back with you all next week or so. Hope everyone is well and enjoying their bubs. xx

sweetkitty · 02/02/2006 19:27

lyra - forgot to say that the fuzzi's are petite toddler size ok for skinnies don't know about chunkier babes would have to look it up on their website. Most are girlie colours as well although I have a few white and a lemon.

Rach69 · 03/02/2006 13:21

Hi everyone! the days are just merging into one here... am determined next week to get into some kind of routine that doesn't involve me n Finn co-sleeping all day as well as all night! Really missing driving especially in this bitter weather - have cabin fever! I don't really want to take the dog out even because of my stitches pulling (going through that itchy/prickly/tight stage with them). I did manage to get to the hairdressers yesterday though which was fabulous. So tired, have tried Finn with a dummy to try and get him to sleep on his own - he has a right temper (mine I think!) and quite funny with it. He is having probably two feeds in the night (one followed by him mithering for an hour or so to get to sleep... the next in bed with me). No question of being hungry as the little tike 'switches off' as soon as you pick him up.

Iris- the probiotics have to be sprinkled into his mouth - easier said than done! It's a double blind study - no-one knows whether he's getting the probiotic or a placebo until they have tracked him for five years. He will however get lots of 'attention' from allergy specialists who will be looking for any signs of asthma/eczema etc. We have to give them lots of samples - breastmilk, poo etc.

Lyra - hope the mastitis is getting better, sounds awful. Apart from the initial latch, my nips are ok (hardened from feeding 4 kids no doubt!) - bf is much harder than you think it should be (some basic design flaws I think!) especially when fighting against 'health professionals' but once the two of you get the hang of it, it is so much easier than bottles!

HeyThereGeorgieGirl · 03/02/2006 13:21

sweetkit - have you passed sinusitus bug down to me?! head feels like its going to drop off. uurrgghhh. feel like death on a cracker.

am going to feed libby band try to get some kip.

better night last night... 12, 3, 5, 7.

would sell my granny for a four hour stretch of sleep

g xx

Rach69 · 03/02/2006 13:44

Whoops ? pressed post too soon! Georgie ? really sympathise with your ex-arrangements, I know how difficult it can be to negotiate - thank god mine are now older and their dad near enough for them to walk over themselves, couldn?t dd?s dad drop her off to you? 7.30am seems a little hard! When is his new baby due?

Re that bf programme ? my kids are finding my bf fascinating ? ds1 is obviously getting near puberty and said ?oh is that what they are for??! and ds2 asked me if I could feed a boy his age?.! I said well it?s for babies really because they can?t eat our food yet and they need special protection from their mum which I think sums up my view! I haven?t even thought about expressing yet as I have already given some bottles, it doesn?t seem to have affected my supply thank god ? I?m trying not to replace any night feeds when it seems to be most affected.

Sweetkitty ? I?ve bought a babygym too, they are great ? hours of fun! I bet you are glad to get the dishwasher, I?m not sure I could choose between that and a tumble drier ? my electricity bills are a bit big but it?s hard running a household of 6+dog without them! My asthma has improved massively since not drying washing inside the house, ours is quite old/prone to damp and we get a couple of pints out of the dehumidifier every day as it is. I don?t think anyone would envy you using reusables for two children! I have some tots bots + motherease wraps but haven?t actually used them yet? I?ve been using Tesco (ultra not value) nappies which are much cheaper and just as good as pampers/huggies. For some irrational reason I really hate the pampers brand, I think it?s the waste of money!

I think I need to get out and talk to some adults!!! Luckily have a nice lunch with friends tomorrow and a family do with dp on Sunday. Remarkably my sister is coming to visit on Tuesday (her dh coming to Wales for work) ? this is quite odd as in the past she has never shown any interest in my babies until they could talk, walk and have good table manners! Really hope the kids?s colds don?t reach me and Finn.

Hope everyone else is ok ? it?s tempting to want this stage to pass but I am determined to enjoy it more this time!

Rach69 · 03/02/2006 13:50

Oh really sympathise Georgie! I would hate to have to get up at 7/8am with another child like I used to! Have you tried feeding Libby lying down in bed? If you can relax enough to sleep but not so much that you roll over (I never have moved an inch, I think your instinct stops you) it buys you a lot of sleep! It also doesn't mean you have to do it forever, once mine have dropped night feeds (or slept for 6-7 hrs) I always put them in their own room. With Finn it is not so much feeding that's the issue but dropping off to sleep without the mummy dummy!

Also, this is working for me - don't look at the time!

lyra41 · 03/02/2006 14:47

hi Rach

glad you're feeling better. don't envy you your stitches tho, hope they'll soon dissolve. alex is like finn in that he loves to use his mum as a real live dummy - handy to be able to comfort him at any time, but also heavy going on the old nips. i wish mine were as tough as yours! i think it's his tongue tie rather than my nipples tho, causing the cracks, still there, but def improving. alex has been v unsettled today, ended up "cluster feeding" him all morning, finally got him to go to sleep in the sling about 20 mins ago, and fingers crossed he'll have a long sleep now. much as i love him, i do need a break from time to time! nights are much like yours rach, not too bad, but can't imagine him settling himself without something to suck for some time yet..... i'm wondering whether to try different shapes of dummy, so far i've only tried the freebie we got in the bounty pack, and that just keeps popping out.

people give you SO many baby clothes don't they? a friend came over earlier and brought a whole stack of hats and vests, none of which i actually need tbh, i got lots of hand me downs and really don't need any clothes at this stage. i'll take them back and exchange them for bigger things i think. 2 parcels of clothes arrived this am too, he's a very well-dressed boy!

georgie

so sorry to hear you're feeling ill with sinusitis. try to steam your head under a towel and breathe in the fumes, use eucalyptus or olbas oil if you can. hope that helps. and don't forget to take paracetamol regularly.

sweetkitty

can i email you about the nappies? my email is

juliethroup at hotmail dot co dot uk

if you email me i'll reply and we can sort something out re. which nappies and how many etc.

HeyThereGeorgieGirl · 03/02/2006 20:41

Lyra - have you tried the Avent dummies? Libby seems to like those. Seems to be the only one that she'll suck for a couple of mins.

Have taken some Sudafed and it has knocked the worst of the pain on the head. Might go and take a nice hot bath later and steam in there for a while

Rach - have tried BF lying down. Libby's stuffy nose just makes it impossible to do as she can't get her breath. Do seem to have mastered falling asleep sitting upright whilst BF her though . Bloody headboard on your bed is made of wood though so get really stiff neck . Will go back to BF laying down as soon as her snuffles have gone.

Will stop clock watching as well. Think you're right, it just makes you more tired.

Ex-h bit stubborn and not likely to change the arrangements. Might just be a little 'sneaky' and turn up late a couple of times. Might change his mind then! His baby due early May, so at least his g'friend will be home and I won't have to get to his house by 8am.

Am turning into my mother.... am watching Judge John Deed, enjoying it AND finding him strangely attractive

G xx

sweetkitty · 03/02/2006 22:30

hi all with you all on the cluster feeding, Talia does this for a few hours twice a day with large chunks of sleep inbetween, kills your nipples though. She's a real wee gannet and tries to suck on everything in site, DP, her fingers, her shawl, Abbie etc. Have resisted a dummy so far, Abbie refused one and is a thumb sucker. I hate to see toddlers with dummies and the struggle to get them off them too and of course Abbie will want one and will probably pull it out Talia's mouth.

Had my hair cut today not had it done for ages so really needed it feel all glam now loved it when she said "are you off out this weekend" erm I had a baby last week so thought I would give it a miss. Was thinking I'm so glad not to be pregnant now, no heartburn, no peeing 100 times a day, I can see my hoo haa in the shower, I can bend over and tie my shoe laces, still a bit stiff at night in bed from the SPD but nowhere near as bad and I get more sleep now than I used too.

Georgie - sorry about the cold/sinuses. Have you got a v shaped pillow use it against the headboard on your back with loads of pillows.

Lyra - have e-mailed you re the nappies.

Rach - don't envy your stitches and not driving and it's not the weather for walking with a pram. Haven't had mine out in the pram yet still waiting for footmuffs to arrive and it's been too cold too.

Hope everyone else is doing ok, better get back to it.

sweetkitty · 03/02/2006 23:02

Just a quick post as DP has Beebe down stairs and I'm in bed on my laptop Glad to hear everyone is beginning to find BF a little easier, I've persisted... our hellish night was explained by the midwife as a 'growth spurt' - apparently most newborns have these semi-regularly and it sees them become insatiable and miserable! Sounds about right! I've taken to BF when possible and expressing.. it means the pressure is off at night time a little - thank goodness!!

As for that BF programme, at first I had a very open mind, but something about it left me cold, am I a prude? I don't know, but I'm sad the show left me feeling negative about BF, because really it's such a wonderful positive thing that should be encouraged!

Agree about the cold brrr - we've taken Beebe out twice, she loved it but we were both a little in shock!

Love and stars to all you tired mums xxx

spangles · 04/02/2006 07:35

Hello there everyone.
Sorry I havent updated my post. Rosa was the name my older DS gave to the new baby but after 2 days thinking what to call her we went with Charlotte.
She's a beautifull little girl and she feeds every 3 hours in the day and every 2.5 hours at night. I am knackered but after having 2 DSs am delighted to have a DD and really dont care about being tired... shes worth it and it wont be forever. I am breastfeeding and that is going well, I dont seem to get much time to post these days and am finding it difficult to get into town with a 20 mth old and new baby so I have been getting NEXT DIRECTORY to deliver me some new clothes.. boobs and arse too big for most of my old clothes. Hope your all enjoying your new babies xxx

sweetkitty · 04/02/2006 21:42

hi spangles nice to see you, Charlotte is a lovely name like Rosa too though.

Had mad cluster feeding morning then MW came for her last visit and woke her up!! It was the MW who delivered me so it was nice seeing her again when I wasn't screaming at her to give me drugs!

Talia now weighs a whopping 9lbs 10ozs so 10ozs gained in a week, not surprised the way she eats. Am producing milk like a prized cow now, had to express off some at 11 last night so I could sleep and woke up at 4 with breastpad, bra, top and sheet covered in milk yuck so more expressing despite feeding Talia at 1 and 5 am.

Had her godparents visit today and having more visitors tomorrow so anothe busy weekend. So glad DP has another week off work to help out. I do feel like I am neglecting Abbie a little bit

iris66 · 05/02/2006 21:02

Hi all - hope the nips are bearing up

The stats look impressive SK - didn't it all fly by! Am intereseted in your Motherease btw if you've not sold them yet. How many have you got? Do you want to e-mail me? [email protected]

Spangles - Hi again and congrats on the name (DD was nearly a Charlotte)

Lilstarry1 - sympathise with the growth spurts (but imagine we all do at the mo!) Had an apalling night last night culminating with me in tears because I just seemed to have run out of milk & Dom doing a very good impression of a starving hypersucking/hyperventilating baby for 4 hours ( i came soo close to sending DH to the hospital to get formula)luckily he dropped off at around 3 and slept until 9 so at least we got some much needed sleep (though I was totally engorged this morning as a result!!)

Georgie - love the new name hope your sinusses have cleared and that you've managed to sort your DD drop off/collection problems. PMSL at you drooling over Judge John Deed. Nick Knowles does it for me (I even suggested Nicholas for DS at one point - DH was not amused!!)

Is anyone else finding that they're really sweaty at night at the mo? Woke up this morning absolutely soaked but think it was sweat more than milk (despite engorgement)as the whole of my pjs felt damp was v chilly getting out of bed to change (which was gross) but seem to remember being a sweat monster whilst bf last time (yeeuk!)

Weather seems to be a bit milder so planning on a few trips out over the coming days to visit friends (am becoming a bit stir crazy - have even started cleaning and ironing stuff - bad sign - need to keep mess levels high for DH to notice & help ) Hope you're all getting out and about too.

sleepy baby vibes to us all

Mumfun · 06/02/2006 09:33

Hi

Iris - glad Im not the only one being so sweaty - its not milk with me either -and this didnt happen to me last time so was wondering about it.

Had a good night last night so feeling like a new person. Tara slept all night except 2 feeds but settled quickly and such an improvement on a very bad couple of nights before.

Georgie -to reply to a few posts ago from you -DS not taking this too well Im afraid. On surface absoloutely loves her and totally fascinated - always cuddling and kissing her. But under the surface not happy at all. has been on naughty step more times this week than his whole life previously. playing up in all sorts of ways. but bit better last 2 days so maybe getting out of system.

also can really identify with desperation for 4 hours sleep - its so horrible - went 5.5 months last time where ds would only last 3 hours - Tara has already shown yeserday pm where she slept 4 that will hopefully be better.

lots of sleep vibes to all babies

porolli · 06/02/2006 12:37

Hello - can I join?
My third baby, Robin Alexander, was born on 27th January, 6lb 110z. I have an older son Gabriel who is four and three quarters and a daughter Eliza two and a quarter.
I'm following the discussion on frequency of feeding with interest! despite fully breastfeeding twice before i have huge memory blanks as to what they did! Robin is feeding every hour or two at the moment and I'm finding myself desperate for him to be awake and happy for just five mins!

Rach69 · 06/02/2006 14:24

Hi everyone, had a busy weekend - Saturday had lunch with some girlfriends - Finn was awake from 12.30 till 5 (despite bfs). Yesterday we went to dp's family and he slept (despite dp mum poking him ) from 12 til 5 when I had to wake him because I was starting to drip... I think he's a screamer - he is not settling well at all despite feeding well, he might drop off but will wake a little while later (unless in my arms...) theres nothing wrong because he stops as soon as I pick him up, but he is persistent! Had a good whinge before dropping off his his carrycot just now. I think we need to start a lunchtime walk to get him off!

Welcome Porolli! Love the name Gabriel, loads of sympathy/empathy for you coping with 3 under 4 as I was in your position a few years ago! much easier this time round (or is it?).

Iris- IKWYM about the sweat - I'm having to wash my (long) hair everyday because of it which I could do without.

Have managed to post a few (not brilliant quality) pics on yahoo of Finn - I had to start a new file for myself: due in jan/Rach to do it. Love all the new babies - isn't it weird to think we've doubled our population!

lilstarry1 · 06/02/2006 14:52

Hello Everyone, hope you all had a good weekend?! My mum came up and we went to visit DP's parents, she slept soundly most of the day! DP is just feeding her some expressed milk and then we're off into the city, hopefully it'll be an enjoyable afternoon!

Glad I'm not the only one suffering with night sweats! Apparently it's caused primarily by two things - our bodies trying to expel the water we retained in the last few weeks of pregnancy AND our bodies trying to adapt to the loss of our little heaters! Either way, it's not a pretty picture!

I have a question about appetite...Apparently BF is meant to make you insatiable, is anyone else finding eating a struggle? I'm ok in the afternoons but by the evening the thought of food makes me feel really ill!

Finally, some pictures. I'm not sure where the Yahoo site is that everyone refers to, but my partner has set up some pictures which I thought I'd share.. the link is:

lyra41 · 06/02/2006 14:59

Hi all

Currently have the luxury of some free time - mil has come to stay to "do jobs" for me and has taken the baby and dog out for a walk so i can have a rest - bliss! I'm going for a lie down in a bit, but tbh don't feel v tired, but will anyway while i have the chance.

Rach,
couldn't find the photos of Finn on Yahoo, i wonder if i have the address correct? I use

login.yahoo.com/config/login_verify2?.src=gr&.done=http%3a//photos.groups.yahoo.com/group/mumsnetpix/lst%3f.dir=/Due%2bin%2bJanuary/chuffed%26.src=gr%26.order=%26.view=t%26.done=http%253a//briefcase.yahoo.com&.intl=us&.linkdone=http%3a//photos.groups.yahoo.com/

does that work for you to see your photos? I'd love to see some pics of Finn.

Alex is a real guzzler on the milk front, he's sometimes only going an hour between feeds in the day, but i've discovered it's much more comfortable to feed him from a full breast, so I'm trying to stick to one breast per feed, so that he's not chomping on a flat breast and making my nips extra sore. Doesn't always work out that way, but that's the plan. oh and the lansinoh makes SUCH a difference. as usual i'll put some on now whilst i'm remembering.......
one thing i don't like about bf at my advanced age of 41 is the effects of gravity on my norks, they definitely look in need of some serious plastic surgery after a feed!! they look much better full of milk, quite perky in fact, but depressingly droopy otherwise.

can anyone recommend stylish bf tops? i'm ending up wearing mainly baggy t shirts, which don't do a lot for my style or self image.

lyra41 · 06/02/2006 15:02

Lilstarry

those photos are gorgeous, what a little sweetie Beebee is! and so like you.
