Happy new year!

Sorry for the rubbish title but wanted to get the new thread underway. Let's close the door on some of the sad events of 2011 and look forward to a better year in 2012.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I especially love the bit in the article:
"In a dire emergency situation like this, the midwife would call an ambulance immediately, and would telephone ahead to the hospital and ask them to have the operating theatre made ready and the surgical team assembled. The ambulance team would take the mother straight to the operating theatre" -
Not trying to scare anyone but keep in mind this rarely happens in such a straight forward way.
Kayz you will be fine you have done it before x

Right I'd better bow out of this one. Somebody FB me when the conversation switches back to running, travel, wine or reality TV Grin or Kayz gives birth to lovely Rosalie Wink love how I put "running" first on the list like I'm some sort of athlete Hmm

AubergineKenobi · 12/04/2012 11:59

Rubes - if you want running tales I can tell you that last night I ran 7.5k for the first time ever and my body hates me for it. I am sitting at my desk in various forms of agony. I am going to have to get some proper running clothes because I was wearing a yoga vest and my underarm chaffed against the side of the vest and although that sounds like nothing it REALLY hurts. Anyway I ran 7.5k and walked 2.5k. I have been doing a 10k circuit for a little while now. Running as much as I can and walking the rest. At first I would run about 3.5k and walk the rest so I am pretty proud that I can now run 7.5k, vest problems notwithstanding.

Beans36 · 12/04/2012 12:45

Aubs - that is fantastic! Well done you! I need to get back into running again. I'm so hit and miss. DH is putting me to shame, as always.

Been v busy here, as always is when you move, I guess. But house is coming together really nicely. But just had heavy hail, which was odd.

Kayz - I don't know much about big babies etc, as I was very lazy about my nippers births and just went to hospital. Wanted the most natural birth I could have, but was very happy to have epidurals or c-section, or whatever they recommended as I just kind of assumed they'd do what was best for me. I reckon if it's your third, then you may well be able to have her naturally, even if she's big, as ahem, your foo foo has probably grown a little after the first two! Mine is certainly a little more spacious than pre-kids.

Just organised DD2's childminder. She starts on Monday, 5 mornings a week. Brilliant. And DD1 starts playgroup on Monday for 5 mornings a week. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with myself! Obviously I have to work for 3 of the mornings, but the other two will just be shopping and/or reading my book cleaning. Brilliant!

Must go and put DD2 to bed. She refused her sleep yesterday and actually fell asleep in my arms at 5. I must say, it was glorious as she hasn't done that since she was about 1 month old. But I had to wake her for some food at 5.30 and she was PISSED OFF!!! But both were asleep by 7. Heavenly.

KiwiPanda · 12/04/2012 13:02

Aubs I'm doing a couple of 10ks in May/July and have got some really surprisingly decent new running gear from Gap (larger branches only I guess) - and if you are in their VIP club thing they are having one of their 30% off everything deals at the mo. if you want swankier gear I do like Sweaty Betty though.

Somewhat insanely after 2 kids I'm trying to beat my PB.
Hmmm

JumpJockey · 12/04/2012 13:14

Hello all! McKayz congratulations on your wedding, what a gorgeous picture! And very best of luck for dd's arrival.

What's with all the running talk? You make me feel guilty... then again I do cycle about 10k to and from work every day with a bike that weighs 60kg, so that will have to do for my exercise!

Beans was it you saying something about curtain poles?! If it was, and you need some curtain rings, we have a load as we had to get new poles for tab top curtains and don't need the rings. Give me a shout if you want them anyway.

Quick Q re behaviour - S had a big meltdown this morning as she wanted a drink but said this literally as we were walking out the door already late (she wouldn't put her shoes on). She'd had a cup of juice on the table at breakfast, chose not to drink it. Then decided just at the last minute that she was thirsty. We said you can have a drink at nursery, she wailed. WWYD - make us more late but give her a drink, or just let her learn that if she chooses not to drink when it's there, she won't always be able to demand another one later? Obv this applies not just to drinks but all the things they decide at the last minute...!

Beans36 · 12/04/2012 13:20

Oh JJ! Bugger, have just ordered some rings. Tits. How annoying!

Beans36 · 12/04/2012 13:22

PS I would be inclined to let her wait til nursery too - it's not exactly a long time to wait and might teach a valuable lesson.

Both DDs slept through the night for hte first time in ages last night. I slept from 10.30-6.30am. Bliss. Then dozed on and off til DH's alarm went off at 7. That's what time we got up in London! He's very lucky as I'd offered to give him a lift to the station so we didn't need to leave til 8, but once the DDs start at school etc next week, no more lifts on offer!

JumpJockey · 12/04/2012 13:22

Cancel the order! These ones are white in case that makes any difference.

McKayz · 12/04/2012 13:34

Just had MW appointment. I have to see a consultant and have another scan to compare the sizes on both.

I said I am happy to go to the MLU instead of a homebirth. MW said that they don't induce or do CS usually. They don't like the babies to get too big but if I am happy to try naturally then it should be fine. I am measuring 34cm today though and I am only 30 weeks.

It might all be pointless though as baby is breech. She's been breech since my 28 week appointment. I alway feel like I have a head in my ribs. So I need her to move!

Beans36 · 12/04/2012 13:46

Oh JJ, it's been despatched. Nuts. You might be interested in this though:

Now, SL and I have hatched a sneaky plan this morning and she's coming round tomorrow for lunch at mine and playing in the afternoon with the nippers. Does anyone else live relatively near to me and want to come with their littles? I'm about 10mins north of Harlow, so I think maybe applicants would be: Jam, Effie, PD, Kiwi, JJ - do you think any of you could make it? I know it's a bit last minute, but we were both at a bit of a loose end! Anyone anyone?

Beans36 · 12/04/2012 13:52

PS Anyone further afield also welcome, if you can be bothered to drive over!
x

JumpJockey · 12/04/2012 14:02

I would love to but have 2 big meetings at work tomorrow (get me Mrs Captain of Industry) so will think of you all and your merry hell fun :)

JamInMyWellies · 12/04/2012 14:45

Hello! Beans I am at a loose end sort of tom. Am trying to get out of the decorating. FB your postcode and I will see if it works.

KiwiPanda · 12/04/2012 15:14

Beans i would LOVE to but DD2 has the pox.. So unless absolutely everybody else who is coming, big and small, has had it, I don't want to be the spreader or germs...!

Kayz My Rosalie was breach until 33 weeks, so don't give up hope! Do lots of rocking forward on hands and knees. If nothing else it provides enormous entertainment to everyone else...

Beans36 · 12/04/2012 15:15

I'm afraid we haven't had it here. Bugger. Although a part of me would love to, I don't think the timing of starting at nursery next week would be ideal. Bum, sorry Kiwi! x

KiwiPanda · 12/04/2012 15:27

No that wouldn't be ideal! Though I can actually highly recommend it as side effects in toddlers seem to be very good mood and in babies, more sleep. I approve of this. She does look rather awful now though! I've started calling her Poxyface. Grin

KiwiPanda · 12/04/2012 15:28

Though more generally is there any talk of a meet up in near future? Would love to see everyone.. Well, everyone vaguely local of course Sad

JumpJockey · 12/04/2012 15:50

Kiwi - poor dd2 :( How is she doing - presumably a bit too little to be bothered, hopefully. I would love to have a meet up as well - we could have everyone over to Cam now that we've actually got a bit of space. And soon there will be swings (once we get our arses into gear and build them... flatpackorama!)

KiwiPanda · 12/04/2012 16:31

JJ she's fine! Looks awful but doesn't seem at all bothered by them. She's not trying to scratch them at all - and I think at 6 months (how did THAT happen??) she probably would be doing that if they bothered her.. Only pain is not being able to take her to any play groups, and as its so much more visible than DD1s were not really venturing out much generally..!

Would love to come visit in Cambridge some time. Don't tell my sister though or I'd have to visit her too Wink

Beans36 · 12/04/2012 18:12

I'd be up for Cambridge trip too. Only 45 mins for us. Hurray!!
Jam, have FB'd you my address... Hope it's not too far as would love to save you from DIY!

JamInMyWellies · 12/04/2012 18:25

Hurrah its only 50 mins! Ok will work on DH when he gets home, that it would make much more sense for me to go out with the boys and for him to be able to paint in peace. Grin

Beans36 · 12/04/2012 18:46

Exactly Jam! Painting with children is no fun!!

Does anyone else get to the end of a day of hard work on child front (you know the usual grind!!) and feel inexplicably furious with their husband??! Odd.

Beans36 · 12/04/2012 18:53

DD2 has just wandered off from bedtime telly. Has clearly been going through clean washing and come in wearing her welly socks and singing and dancing. So proud of herself. Hilarious! Calls for a celebration. I'll have a glass of wine.

Rubena · 12/04/2012 19:20

Wow very impressed Aubi! I too have the chaffing thing as been wearing Top shop vest with yoga bottoms (never done yoga) and have under arm chafing. Going to see if I stick at it and buy some proper stuff. At the moment my commitment has been somewhat questionable. Need new shoes though. Still wearing one's I bought 6 years ago, not that they've had much use Blush

Kiwi I'm trying to gather some of our peeps (proving v difficult) have no idea where you live now, but you're v welcome at mine if / when we organize something!

DS obsessed with his boy bits. keeps announcing "my tallywhacker is gone big" (dh taught him that name and it has unfortunately stuck!) and "are these my balls? I've got two or is it called tenticles?"(no typo there) Grin trying so hard to laugh but he seems to have his hands down his pants all the time.

Can anyone recommend a nice place to stay somewhere between here and Birmingham (ideally half way) that is child friendly?

Rubena · 12/04/2012 19:22

Oh and JJ we have very similar scenario's ALL the time, and I just make him wait as he had his chance - there has been times though when I can't bear the tantrum and I give in if I'm in a hurry which doesn't help......
