Happy new year!

Sorry for the rubbish title but wanted to get the new thread underway. Let's close the door on some of the sad events of 2011 and look forward to a better year in 2012.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
VagolaJahooli · 30/03/2012 11:51

Oh and Summer, ds2 can take himself off to the toilet but not with ski gear on. Amazingly neither of them needed a wee for the entire three hour lessons but I think even ds1 it would have been tricky with boots etc.

LadyThompson · 30/03/2012 11:55

Thanks Veggie. Well, with the deep rose wrap and cardigan it will probably look more like I am wearing a white skirt, anyway.

Rubena · 30/03/2012 13:05

I'd been meaning to comment about Summer, as after skimming back it would appear her attendance has been also rather limited, and further more I didn't get a welcome back from our Summer so I applaud you picking up on this Vagola. It is also noted that several other lurkers have been let off way too easily. Vag, can I trust that you will keep an eye on this? Deids, you are an exception, and those of you that have had babies - you can't keep milking that one forever (pardon the pun Grin)
Lady, you are very successful - I will hammer that into you when you visit (as well as lots of wine Grin) The couch to 5k thing - oh it's just me attempting to follow that program that gets you off the couch which is where I've been camping out and subsequently gained a few kg Angry with all our visitors recently. Not to mention the dog looking at me like I'm the worst owner in the world with all this lovely weather. I'm also on a mission for a skiing holiday next season as it's the one thing we will all enjoy but dh has pointed out I won't enjoy it in the unfit state I'm in! it's early days but I'm going to try my best to stick to the program.
So, obviously loving all this skiing talk. Summer, when do they start selling the next season? I know they have early offers etc and some already advertise but I just mean the majority of the searchable stuff to book online. Think we'll go with Mark Warner and try for that 7% MN deal.
Re the wedding Lady - hmmm dunno, I probably wouldn't, only because I'd be worried the whole time if she was miffed in the slightest, and becuase I look awful in all white - but that just me. With the wrap thrown in I think it's fine. Oh and of course - stay over anytime!
Jam I hope things are ok this morning? I DO get the whole no time for family thing - that would piss me off a LOT. With the training thing can he incorporate it via getting to work? I don't have a clue where he works, but DH is doing that again - after a lazy slobby Winter of gaining about 15kg DH is back to cycling to work - this time 27 miles each way - beer intake starting to reduce again too. And we are both committed to this family skiing holiday, but until then I'm sure we'll barely see him with work commitments and some major study about to begin after the Olympics are over (we have visitors) Anyway, hope you have had a chance to talk / compromise. It's hard to offer advice on here and have it make sense (for me anyway) but I'd love to see you if you ever can make it this way?
Right - must go back to arguing with ex tenant over carpet cleaning Angry Actually - will just go back to email informing her it's coming out of her deposit - period.

DeidreBarlow · 30/03/2012 13:18

Hello summer & rubes, so great to hear from you both again (not that I've around that much either lately!). Speaking of my sore knee,I was thinking of trying out a short-ish run later to test the knee (its been 4 weeks since my last run) but I just kind of fell over a toy and twisted it a bit and its feckin killing me againSad. I'm out tonight and had planned on some heels but its really sore! Aarghhh.....

lady I think that dress and accessories sounds rather nice. I doubt that anyone could really overshadow a bride on her wedding day unless they really tried to be OTT. Besides we have a wedding in June and I was browsing some dresses etc online and many were cream/white etc so it must be okay!

Oh and weight loss, yes still dieting on WW(again!)...I lost another 1lb this week, I seem to lose a 1lb every week so its slow, but I know they reckon this way is best. A few people have commented so I suppose I must be looking like I've lost a tyre or two!

jam how are things today? Hope your okay x

DeidreBarlow · 30/03/2012 13:19

I feel like I have used up my daily allowance of '!' in that last post.

JamInMyWellies · 30/03/2012 13:50

Another mad dash and post. Things are much brighter this morning thanks all.

We had continued disagreements via phone all evening. But he apologised then when he got home we did chat it all through. He does understand where I am coming from and has promised to look at the joint diary before he decides to do things as by his own admission he doesnt look to see whats going on he just adds his things. I think I will do the if you are training Sunday morning I am taking an hr on Saturday morning type of thing.

Rubes Summer DB lovely to see you all again.

Rubes will get back to your FB message later but would love to catch up and to you too Effie and PD. Oh and Lady did oyu arrange a time to meet up with PD and Effie and what date am being rather hopeless at keeping up with everything.

KAyz hows you leg?

Vag thankyou for your tri advice.

Right not even gotten in the shower yet bike ride, dog walk, post office, butchers pick up DS2 ... and so forth. So super stinky. As if you all needed to know that. Grin

LadyThompson · 30/03/2012 13:57

Thanks Rubes Grin Sorry your tenant is making a face about the carpet cleaning. You sound like you've got a busy summer, who's coming? Have you still got sunny weather? It's chilly and cold here today.

The dress is very plain linen and not at all bride-y. O's bridesmaid's dress is more of a cream than an ivory I would say, I presume the bride's dress is the same shade. I will probably keep my cardigan on all day anyway. The fact that other people on the thread I started in Style tell me all the other women there will be tutting just makes me want to dig my heels in. I distinctly remember pictures of E. Hurley turning up at a society wedding in a white dress split to the thigh, no other coloured cover ups like I am planning, flashing her pants and indeed half of her bits. Now that IS upstaging the bride!

Thing is DB, I know it's agonising losing weight slowly (I am going at about the same rate, at best) but over time it shows I'm at least a stone lighter than I was a year ago. That's got to be good.

LadyThompson · 30/03/2012 13:57

X-posted Jam, more later.

Kayzr · 30/03/2012 14:14

LadyT I am sure you will look fine and won't upstage the bride at all.

Jam I hope you and DH sort everything out. It does sound a bit unfair on you.

Rubes I hope you get the tenant problem sorted out. Just tell her its tough!!

My ankle isn't as bad now, but I'm not resting it as much as I should do. I don't have time at the minute. I've had to go and collect the cake today and some bits and pieces. But we've said we'll have a lazy weekend so it can get some rest.

urbanewarrior · 30/03/2012 14:30

sorry for interrupted post. looks like i faded away mid-sentence Grin ladyt i chipped in on your other thread. i couldn't say there but i would bet my life you are instinctive impeccable judge of these things, and it doesn't look bridal so crack on. we have a few weddings this year and i'm so excited about them. and kayz - less than a week now Smile. i have scan later today so will hopefully have that and then will have better idea whats going on. lovely to see everyone - will try and catch up more later

urbanewarrior · 30/03/2012 14:46

jeez ladyt i see what you mean about the other thread.strong views about something that's not a massive deal

LadyThompson · 30/03/2012 14:51

Thank you for your post, Urbs. They are just winding me up now, trying to compel me to do what they want! Bonkers! Good luck for the scan xxx

Jam - so happy things are easier today.

Kayz - hope you get your restful weekend.

VagolaJahooli · 30/03/2012 14:59

Kayz isn't DP home, can't he do that sort of thing.

Lady I'm gobsmacked, these tutting women are clearly a completely different class and level of human being to me as i can't for the life of me think why I would tut anyone, esp at a wedding. I dont think ive ever really taken any notice of what other people wear to weddings. Apart from if I think they look pretty then I tell them. But if i think they look crap or are over dressed I don't think I would think much of it as it doesn't really effect me. If the bride was unhappy well thats her thing. The only thing I've ever tutted about at a wedding was serving sharks fin soup and that just because I have a moral problem with it. I do have a bit of an issue with people spending a fortune on food at a wedding for the express purpose of showing off. If it's because the want to feed their friends nice food then fair enough, but to do it just to show off is dumb. I also had a friends serve stupidly expensive meat & seafood meals at a wedding even though it put her and her future hubby into huge debt, simply because they didn't want people 'to talk'. Western weddings having nothing on Chinese weddings though, rediculous.

Right I'm rambling.

VagolaJahooli · 30/03/2012 15:09

Right I'm off to that thread, wish me luck, now where is my pitchfork.

LadyThompson · 30/03/2012 15:10

It's getting really horrid over there now!

DeidreBarlow · 30/03/2012 15:19

I've got ya back sistaWink

DeidreBarlow · 30/03/2012 15:21

jam Glad things are better with you & DH.

Urbs Hope everything goes well at the scan.

vag I agree. My cousin (the one who look like she got married in the Eden project) last year spent stupid amounts of ££ on some of the most tasteless, but expensive things. That was a whole lot worse than what colour the guests wore!

LadyThompson · 30/03/2012 15:22

Thanks DB Grin (And Vag and Urbs)

VagolaJahooli · 30/03/2012 15:35

S'up > Vag gives DB, Urbs & Lady a gangsta rap style nod and that fist touch thing < I gave those biatches a piece of my mind. Unfortunately, I'm having a lot of trouble with this tablet tovh keuboatd thing so it came out a bit rambled and barely readable, but I said it and I feel I've contributed somehow. I didn't realise it was such a strong subject. For our wedding we told people to wear whatever they wanted. If they wanted an excuse to wear something nice then go for it, if they wanted to wear jeans that was fine too.o

urbanewarrior · 30/03/2012 16:10

Word. That fist touch thing is known in our house as a "terrorist fist bump" as during the US Elections in 08 there was a picture of Mr and Mrs Obama bumping fists and some racist right wing nut job described it as such.

I did laugh at notion that having asked what people thought (in what I presumed was a fairly idle - I wonder what view is - kind of a way) you were then slated for not biding by The Opinion of The Thread. Heaven preserve us

Kayzr · 30/03/2012 16:24

Oh LadyT that thread is priceless. I imagine some people will be annoyed. My cousin was grumpy about her sil not wearing shoes that matched her dress. But you know the bride best.

Does anyone know the average age for losing milk teeth? A few of DS1s friends have lost teeth but I thought it was older than 5.

Rubena · 30/03/2012 16:36

I'm off to have a look at this thread now! Sounds exciting! Speaking of which - my Mum just went to one of those Psychic type shows where they speak to the dead (already a firm believer here btw) and Mum got a full on reading. There were over 300 people there apparently and I got a mention! So surreal.

LadyThompson · 30/03/2012 17:11

Goodness me, Rubes, what was said?

Kayz - I think it's 6 or 7 when they start? Maybe 8, even? 5 sounds young but I don't know. I suppose it's like when they get them in - really variable.

Urbs - exactly! I wondered if it was still current (imagining it probably wasn't, as I have seen people in white and cream at weddings more - I think magazines are testament to this too). I had no idea I was going to be in such trouble for not backing right down. But I really shouldn't rise to these people. I may actually check with the bride now. I am fully expecting her to deafen me with her guffaws.

I loved what you said on your 'tablet tovh keuboatd', Vag Grin

LadyThompson · 30/03/2012 17:14

I have always wanted to say 'Word' like that, Urbs.

It's mainly since we've watched The Wire. I love how they say 'do you feel me'? and stuff like that.

But I am a 39 year old Cotswolds housewife and it doesn't sound so cool when I say it.

Anyway - Big Up! We out.

DeidreBarlow · 30/03/2012 17:18

kayz DD is 5.5ys, nothing fallen out yet, not even a wobble. Several of her classmates have lost teeth they are 5 or 6.

lady That thread is a classic example of how mental the wider MN is. Disagree at your peril. I have to say I love the way we all appeared on it one by one to defend one of our ownGrin "Terrorist fist bumps" the Dec 08 ladiesWink...perhaps we should put that in our next thread title, it will go down a treat after 'poonami'Grin

rubes What was said about you?
