Arti, your girls are adorable. Hope you have a lovely birthday tomorrow. It gets easier doing big numbers once they are 5 or so and get left without parents, doesn't it? Are you finished with work now? Just monday for me then I am done til 4th Jan!

I love Christmas and good cheer to all men, esp in Sainsbury's. M was waving at all the Tesco's shoppers yesterday. I had managed to lose his coat so he was wearing T's old one and looked like a young Elton John. Very camp in his fake fur. Gorgeous.

Rubena · 17/12/2011 19:38

Greetings from NY. just quickly as got to get ready. can't remember what I was going to say now! I do the pill but Yasmin the only one worth taking (for me)
3rd for us wouldn't be fair to the kids. DH far too busy, parenting spread too thin. luckily for me I hate being pregnant, and just had the convo with colleague too who was on the fence like LadyT but shame we can't pick and choose the parts of having a baby that we want! crikey, our two and the activities , schools fees etc would get too pricey with 3, and I want these two to have it all of course! besides that, I don't think I'd cope! All I want for Christmas is DD to sleep through consistently! not one in seven!
SL yes thanks about trains info I'm going to get a basic set when I get back tmrw then add to it with the Brio.
yes we switched nurseries dbut they haven't started. Settling days start straight after Christmas. hope they go ok!
right must go Sorry only got a chance to read the last page so will catch up later.

AwayinaKayzr · 17/12/2011 20:38

I obviously want 3 Grin. To be perfectly honest we have already talked about a 4th. If all goes well we'd like another one when the one I'm expecting is 2-3. I'm mad!

We've been to football today and the boys were mascots. It was amazing and I'm ridiculously proud of how well they've been while running about on the pitch.

Hope everyone is ok.

WG the sky box is all set to record Grin

Firstly, happy birthday to all the lovely 3 year olds who?s birthdays I?ve missed ? Ben, Phoebe, Dylan, Jordi, Edwin, Lucy, Matilda, Sebastian, Lachlan, Thomas and Nina for today, plus this week?s batch of birthdays for Lily, Jacob, Daisy and my own darling Eloise. And then it?s Christmas, and our special Christmas day birthdays. So lovely Smile. And I think I?ve missed quite a few Mummies birthdays too, I hope you?ve all had lovely days?

And secondly thank you so much to my secret santa, my gift arrived yesterday and it is the first pressie to be sitting under our tree Xmas Smile. I am saving it for Christmas day, as I love a surprise

My fabby parents have taken E off my hands this weekend, as I?m struggling with the silly spd and looking after her at the same time, especially with DH working so hard at the moment (6am til midnight most days ? but at least it?ll all be over this time next week). I?m being quite a crappy Mum, as all I do is sit and read stories, watch cbeebies or ask her to pick stuff up from the floor because I can?t reach, and when I am up it?s to make tea/do a load of washing/other boring stuff. As a result E is hugely bored and fed up with me and playing up, and I am being a horror in return ? temper tantrums being thrown all round. Anyway, a couple of days peace, quiet and rest are (I hope) just when I need to become nice Mummy again, at least until Christmas. I?ve had a lovely lie in this morning (woke with DHs alarm at 530 and didn?t get back to sleep, but still blissful just to lie and read. And then I had a bath (complete with my Christmas bubble bath and pink frilly bath hat from my best friend), a steady walk to get the Sunday papers and now here I am to do an epic catch up. I will bore you all senseless, but it?s for the good of my health ? the temptation to rush around doing a million jobs whilst DD is away is strong, but I am fighting it by spending hours on MN Xmas Grin

Congrats on the arrival of BILs new baby Vaj, have you managed to visit and get a scrummy cuddle? It sounds like you?re having an amazing holiday

Hey Verso, lovely to hear your latest

Indith I?m sorry that your Gran passed away last month too. But in a funny way, I?m liking the idea that my Gran, yours and Deids' Nan are all together now, making new friends and having competitions about who?s the oldest (or was it just my Gran who was obsessed with that?! Xmas Grin)

Beans, DD is also still in 18-24 mths clothes mostly. I need to get her a school uniform for January, and I have no idea where I will find anything that doesn?t drown her, as I?m sure they won?t do them in her size! Is it this weekend, that you and your Mum and sisters are having your spa break? I hope you are having a lovely time, if it is. My fingers are crossed for your Dad?s scan results tomorrow. Much love to you x

How is feeding going Jolly? I stopped pretty soon after DDs teeth appeared as I didn?t like it, so I am impressed that you are continuing, especially with the biting! I do hope you settle on something that suits you both, be it happy BFing for longer or J growing up and choosing to self wean

Did you get the house shipshape ready for your family?s visit this weekend LadyT? I hope you have a lovely time with them all

Effie, like Summer, I also thought of Hugh FW?s Meat book, no mention of his personal life in there, but lots on his views on meat eating, animal husbandry etc ? so if he?s not yours/DHs cup of tea then maybe not one to get

WG thanks for the tip off about your DHs show. As I was trawling through the Sunday papers earlier (oh, the joy, I love to get the chance to get a load of them and compare their takes on the same dull, stories) I saw in the Mail?s Christmas TV guide that his show has not only got pick of the day for Monday, but also was the feature show on the one page guide to essential viewing next week. I nearly jumped up in excitement for you, until I remember I?m not supposed to jump on my Day Of Rest

Hurrah for completion of your work project Arti (although I see on fb you?ve been called in today Xmas Angry)

And another hurrah for Invis? sisters pregnancy ? babies agogo in your family next year Xmas Smile. And on baby talk, I am really hoping that this isn?t our last, although DH has declared he is not putting up with me through another pregnancy. I just keep telling him ?never say never? Xmas Hmm

Sorry, I watched Strictly an hour late last night Sybs, so missed the chance to vote for Jason for you, as he?d gone by the time I caught up. I was gutted as I LOVED his showdance, and I really wanted Kristina to be the winning pro as I thought her choreography has been A. Maz. Ing. My second fave was Chelsee ? see what happens when I get behind someone, I ruin it for them ? but she wasn?t at her best last night, I think the occasion got the better of her. I am such a saddo superfan, I always feel a little down in the dumps the day after the Strictly final, because that means no more dancing or sequins for another year Xmas Sad

I?ve had a busy old week this week. The MW referred me for a scan, as she felt I was measuring small (4 weeks too small, despite being the right size only 3 weeks ago Xmas Hmm) and couldn?t tell whether it was small baby or not much fluid (again Xmas Hmm, every other MW I?ve seen can feel the baby and locate its head, back etc by feel, and she can?t even tell what is baby and what is me??). Anyway, fortunately, after a few dull hours in hospital, the scan showed that baby is bang on size for its due date and there is plenty of fluid. Phew. However I am really quite Xmas Angry with her for worrying me, I appreciate that it?s better to be safe than sorry, but 3 times she referred me last pregnancy for being small, even though no one else could find any evidence of it, and I know of at least 3 other mum?s who?ve been referred by her too. I just don?t have any confidence in her abilities. Another thing, the Dr rang me after my last lot of blood tests and prescribed iron, so I asked her if she could check what my actual iron levels were and how much they?d gone down since the last tests ? she couldn?t find the results and I had to point out them out in my notes for her. Does anyone know if I can ask not to see her again? There are only 3 community MWs, who cover all shifts between them, so I don?t see the same one each time. But could I ring up the day before my next appt to ask who is doing the clinic, and if it is her, change the appointment for another day that week?

On a lighter note, DD had her practise afternoon at pre school and LOVED it. She is so excited that she has a big girls uniform and will take a lunch box one day a week and put it with all the other children?s lunch boxes (the teacher showed her the special shelf) and that it will have tuna sandwiches, raisins and yogurt in (she has chosen already). Every time anyone asks if she is looking forward to her birthday/Christmas, she just replies ?I?m going to school with my lunch box and tuna sandwiches when I?m a big girl?. Bless her Xmas Smile

A quick question about hospital bags ? we?re going away with friends over New Year, when I?ll be about 33 weeks. Hopefully (incompetent MWs excepting) there is no reason why the babe will arrive early, but I?d like to have a small bag prepared, just in case. I?m guessing if I need to go into hospital at that stage, there?s no point taking any baby stuff, as it will all be too big. Those of you who had early babies, is this right? Shall I just grab an old nightie, pads for everything and my notes? Would that do for now? Fortunately, my friends all have children, so I?d have no worries about sending them to Boots with a shopping list if the need arrives

And one final question I?ve been meaning to ask for ages ? DD isn?t really a meat eater, but does love beans and pulses (and fish too), and would be vegetarian in the blink of an eye if she knew what one was. However DH may inflict pain on me, if I was ever to serve up a dish without meat ? so I?m currently on a repertoire of things like sausage and lentil casserole and chilli (mild for DD) with lots of kidney beans. I do enjoy beans myself, but Mum really dislikes them, so never cooked them when I was a child and I don?t really know where to start on including them in recipes. Does anyone have some good suggestions for dishes that I could try?

Right, that really is all from me, off to do my next restful activity. Ta ra everyone

ZuleikaJambiere · 18/12/2011 15:07

Wow, I can go on, when I get the chance, can't I? Xmas Grin

JollyBear · 18/12/2011 19:34

Hello,

Glad you had a good day ZJ. Sounded marvelous! Re bag packing, you'd need nothing for a baby so tiny but for you: pads, notes, you'd have smellies etc, and a dark towel. Anything else you can pick up later.

It is annoying with measurements etc. I found midwives very keen to get out the old tape measure and take their measurement as gospel. I was told I was measuring small and they'd have to keen an eye on it and even when I pointed out I'd had a growth scan the previous week and all was bang on she looked me in the eye and said, 'well you are measuring small now'. Confused Bonkers I tell you! No harm in checking which midwife it is, or just going for in the blood pressure and wee test and ignoring everything else she says!

sybs Love the idea of M in his fake fur!

I must tell you about our nativity scene. When I was a girl it was my job at home to put up the nativity set (one wise man has no toes due to a run in with the coal scuttle!) and when I got married my mum gave it to me. DD1 and I put it up and we were unwrapping all the people and animals. I then went to make tea and when I arrived back the shelf was full of lego farm animals, a plastic dog, and a pig, all crowded around the manger. However most alarming of all was a skeleton which she'd got in a halloween party bag! I queried the skeleton and apparently he is 'baby jesus's toy'.

JamInMyWellies · 19/12/2011 09:12

Sorry Secret Santa only just sent prob wont arrive in time. Am rubbish.

AwayinaKayzr · 19/12/2011 09:17

I have just posted my Secret Santa. Post office woman promises me it will be there before Christmas day.

SummerLightning · 19/12/2011 13:06

Hello. I was assuming parcels posted today would get there. Mine has gone today too (hopefully as DH doing big xmas post today). Off work with stomach bug (thanks DD). Unfortuately can't lounge around too much as DD off nursery too so I have her pootling around (though she seems to be feeling better). She is being very good considering I am feeling too rubbish to move around much so am ignoring her a lot.

zj that midwife sounds like a total liability. It's the same round here with many stresses of measuring big or small and it rarely turns out to be anything. But she sounds like she is constantly doing it!
How cute is DD with her preschool! Am i mean, I don't give DS choice for his lunch. Otherwise he would have cheese sandwiches every day! He has started moaning when I give him houmous sandwiches now - apparently he "doesn't like them any more" (previous favourite) though he scoffed down some the other day after a bit of moaning

Oh, on recipes, I have two favourites that involve lentils/beans, one is salmon with lentils and sundried tomato and spinach, and the other is a side dish of brocolli with hazlenuts, anchovies and flageloet beans. I have been eating a lot of bean/lentils recently as I was on a diet that was low carb but allowed beans and lentils. Oh also I have discovered that merchant gourmant (is that how its spelt) do these little packets of lentils and sundried tomatoes mixed, they cost £2 though and aren't massive, but they are yummy and take 1 min in the microwave. DD loves as well as me for a quick lunch, sometimes with an egg or tuna or avocado as well. I can give you the recipes if you want? They are not sophisticated and the beans/lentils I get out of tins (not loads of soaking/ cooking, I too am not a bean/lentil expert!)

Right I have to go as am feeling mean for ignoring DD. Argh I hate this miserable weather. Not that I would be going out as I am still in my dressing gown.

Rubena · 19/12/2011 13:34

Arrived back yesterday to a good 10 min of ice scraping the car! New York was way warmer. Could feel self getting sick as totally congested by half way home (argh) Woke this morning and thought I may actually not survive the day after taking ibuprofen then vomiting the lot. Much better by midday - guess you just have to get on with it with two little running wild.

Artichohohohokes · 19/12/2011 14:19

Sorry that you are both ill Rubes and Summer. I hope you feel better soon.

ZJ, here are two links to my favourite bean/pulse recipes:
sausage casserole
chickpea and potato stew - so yummy

There are lots of yummy lentil salads but they all require summer herbs so now is not the time of year. Lentil soup is always good. My kids lap it up.

I also do a very mild chickpean korma which the girls like. I put lots of ground almonds in it and coconut milk so it is quite sweet.

EffiePerine · 19/12/2011 14:23

I have posted my Secret Santa Smile. The PO assures me that I'm a day early for the last posting date so it should get there in time. I have also got the last of the present shopping finished - and the boys behaved very well despite being dragged around busy shops so they're now watching Cars 2. Just food to go now.

SummerLightning · 19/12/2011 14:30

Ooh i would love the chickpea korma recipe arti. We have sausage casserole with beans a lot too but it is usually just a made up recipe. Dd also loves lentil soup but I never make it as dh would not consider it a proper meal! So she gets it when out or courtesy of mr tesco/sainsbury/ocado.
Dd loves curry but since she got sent home from nursery with exploding nappies after consuming too much I try not to give it to her if she's going to nursery the next day! ( there was nothing wrong with her just a few runny poos)
I should add that mr fussy eats none of these things ( but he gets served them sometimes anyway). Yesterday we had chicken casserole and he said mournfully "I haven't got any food..". In the end he got some toast after agreeing to lick a bit of chicken!!

Beans36 · 19/12/2011 14:37

I want to do big catch up but will have to do later as pressed for time, but... Me me me. Had a lovely weekend with Mum and sisters.
Dad had scan results and tumours in his lungs and leg have shrunk!!! Loads!! So so happy!! He's got pneumonia so is in hospital on antibiotic drip, but they're not too worried about that!!! Hurray hurray!

Bigger catch up proper soon as haven't even read xxxx

Beans GrinGrin that's so great!!! I'm so pleased for you.

DeidreBarlow · 19/12/2011 14:47

Flying visit from me but beans woo hoo!!!! Fabulous news on your Dad! Am so so pleased for him and you and you and all your family. Shame about the pneumonia though.

My mum slipped on the ice yesterday and has a suspected broken elbow Sad. She has to go back tomorrow to consult the Orthopedics but after 7 hours in A&E the (I assume Jnr Dr) couldn't read the X-Ray, and after mum complained of numbness in her hand the Dr tried to check mums pulse in her wrist using her thumbShock. My mum had to point out that as there is a pulse in her thumb she should try another technique! Flippin' hopeless!

JamInMyWellies · 19/12/2011 17:13

Beans thats super news. Xmas Grin

Indith · 19/12/2011 17:34

How fabulous Beans :)

ZJ my granny will be the one passing comment loudly on everybody while wittering away about how so and so was "married to one of the Fossington-Smythe girls, you know who I mean don't you? She was second cousin twice removed from the Queen's lady in waiting's half brother's sister's son's third cousin. Oh of course you know them you must have met them at Egbert Humpington's dog's debutante ball!" A couple of weeks before her stroke she was commenting on people in the living room of the home she was in and when asked to lower her voice by my uncle replied "Oh there isn't any point that one is deaf as a post and that one is away with the fairies" Grin. Hope you are getting lots and lots of rest.

Deidre it is rather worrying if a Dr can't even take a pulse correctly! Hope she is all fixed up soon.

Jolly I'm now feeling all nostalgic for the nativity scene we used to have. Well, my mum still has it. She has a big traditional French set of figures, we used to get a new one from time to time and it was so exciting. We loved unwrapping all the delicate figures each year and setting them out and moving them around. We used to only put the Magi out on Christmas Day and gradually move them to the stable for Epiphany (anyone who mentions here it actually took them 2 years will be shot). Then on Epiphany we did the traditional French cake with a favour (a coin or a miniature nativity figure). The person who found it in their slice was crowned king for the day :). I'm not at all Christian but I think I'm going to have a bash at making the cake this year, ds will no doubt be doing all about Epiphany at school (Catholic school) so he will love it.

Lentils are fab. We put them in everything. I love the red split lentils, you don't need to soak them you can just stick them in.

EffiePerine · 19/12/2011 17:43

Great news Beans Grin

Indith: we have a wooden nativity set. Last I heard the shepherds had got into a fight and someone had absconded with the baby Jesus.

ZuleikaJambiere · 19/12/2011 18:19

Hurrah hurrah hurrah Beans Grin Grin Grin. What wonderful news for Christmas Smile I hope the pneumonia passes quickly and is mild

Deids my sister slipped recently and thought she'd broken her elbow but nothing showed on the X-ray. It turned out she'd torn her ligaments and was told it'd be 8 weeks before she could use it. She was back driving and riding her horse in less than 4 weeks, so not so bad after all. Hope your Mum's elbow recovers equally well

Thanks for all the recipes, the potato one looks yum yum yum. Please can you link the chick pea korma AAA and the salmon one Summer? I hope your bug passes quickly, and yours too Rubes, and you're both back on form for Christmas

DD wants to press all the dots and spots before I sign off, so here goes ...

AwayinaKayzr · 20/12/2011 11:52

Thank you to my secret santa. It arrived just now and DP has run off to hide it so I don't open it now Grin

sybilfaulty · 20/12/2011 12:05

Sorry to my secret santa recipient - it's bought but not wrapped etc. Getting to the PO with my 3 is beyond me just now. I will try to get to it tomorrow.

Have The Programme on my hard drive ready for a quiet moment to watch and enjoy.

Beans, such good news about your dad. What a lovely Christmas present.

Why will my 3 not stop bickering? DD1 is easy but the other 2 today are winding each other up. Time for a quick nip to the bank I think.

Happy Tuesday y'all

JollyBear · 20/12/2011 14:59

Afternoon all,

J is napping, L at nursery and I've just woken from a snooze. Lovely!

Beans Wonderful news about your dad!

WG Loved The Programme! Am going to watch it again, this time with DH and without wrapping presents!

I sent my ssanta earlier today. Hope it arrives in time.

I have tons to do but might just stay in bed a while longer. Won't be able to have naps once I'm back at work.
