Pull up a comfy chair, grab a cuppa and a piece of cake, switch the monitors on low and let's PARTY.....!!!

DD just spent an hour playing with this toy we found in the local charity shop Xmas Shock www.amazon.co.uk/Sticklebricks-Junior-Super-Builder-Bucket/dp/B001AXFJXO/ref=sr_1_7?s=kids&ie=UTF8&qid=1324151857&sr=1-7

By herself

rainbowweaver · 17/12/2011 21:30

Everyone may be doing some last minute shopping - last w/e before D-day (or X-day :) )

PenguinArmy · 17/12/2011 21:40

lovely pics SB

I had to crack out the breast pump today. DS hasn't taken a bottle (DD gladly took the milk and wanted more) but as he is still feeding a lot less, thought it was time to help keep supply up. I took him to the Dr's and despite his cough and poor voice he is OK which has made me more relaxed. His cough means when he does take a half decent feed, he then brings half of it up again. It's funny I assumed from the start that DS would be a bottle refuser, am hoping to do two 6 hour days away from him in April though.

DD is fine, just a bit snotty and tired but on one nap again. She loved swimming but not upset she couldn't have the chocolate the teacher was handing out at the end apparently. Not sure what to do about that, but I guess life isn't always rosy. I had pre-empted all the playgroups with the biscuits, fruit and seeds but didn't expect the swimming one.

(sorry to ignore everyone else's posts with the me me me)

interesting read rainbow DH hates being back at work, but who know's who'll be working what this time next year.

Another late night post. I tried to offer reassurance to Scones yesterday on my phone but it all disappeared unfortunately. I echo what PA said and it really does get easier. I think it would be fair to say there are spells that are hard but by the time you reach the next one you should be less tired and your hormaones should be less all over the place - i.e. you are better able to deal with it. My motto is to just keep putting one foot in front of the other. I also take a few moments each night before I fall into bed (and, yes, ridiculously, we're still up 2-5 times a night on average) to look at each DS in their bed/cot and remember how gorgeous they are. When they begin to interact with each other, it is very special. I was able to send DS1 to the childminder for 3 days a week in the first couple of months and I still found it a hard time. Therefore, you are doing brilliantly in my book.

Lovely to hear from Rainbow and choc.

I am also on holiday SB, but no one seems to have told DS2 that - screaming toddler moment in Sainsburys and threw a big plastic lego tub lid at my forehead in anger within the first two hours of my holiday beginning!! Hope yours is going more smoothly!

Finally introduced DS2 to DH's granny today, after several failed attempts. I'm very relieved as she is getting quite frail (at the age of 89) and I was beginning to wonder if we'd get the two together at all. Both DS were lovely until the last 15 minutes and have transferred well to bed.

DS2 is really impressing us on the potty. He had 6 wees in the potty yesterday and the day before (against two in the pull up and a poo yesterday) and today we've only had one wet pull up and all other wees and two poos in the potty. I'm still not intending to put him in pants yet as I'm feeling remarkably lazy (and have other stuff to do for now, but he's clearly ready!!)

PA hope the DCs continue to get better. It took mine 4 and 5 months respectively to take a bottle. Due to the screaming from reflux that breast feeding caused, we got to a point where I gave DH the bottle then and left the room until they drunk it. I'd tried myself on several occasions, but they knew that I'd go back to BF. I didn't want to stop for either, but they were in too much pain for us to continue. Feeding upright on a bottle 'solved' our problems (well, at least eased their pain and enabled them to feed).

Off to bed after our long day. Enjoy the rest of the weekend and go easy on yourselves. Xmas Smile

StoneBaby · 18/12/2011 20:12

bethy great news about the use of potty. DS is once again refusing to seat on the potty so back to square one. The potty is coming on holidays with us anyway. Good luck with the test for DS1 (in case I don't come on online while away)

Well we're all packed and ready to go. I hope to be able to post bwfore Christmas

extremelychocolateymilkroll · 18/12/2011 21:36

Me again. I know there are some vegetarians on here - IC I think and others. I don't know if you saw the River Cottage episode where Hugh went to visit some vegan chefs. There was a recipe for a Raw Chocolate Ganache Tart which looked yummy. The other recipes in this episode were also worth checking out.

rainbowweaver -VERY impressed that your dd played for an hour by herself with that toy. We have that at my mum's which I also got at a charity shop but haven't played with yet so I'll definitely be getting that out of the cupboard this Christmas.

PenguinArmy · 19/12/2011 15:47

back from physio, turns out I'm doing the exercises properly :) but still a fair few months to go.

BabyGiraffes · 19/12/2011 17:23

We are back in poorly territory here with dd2's fever hovering near the 40 mark Sad. We went to see BIL for the weekend and dd2 keeled over on Saturday afternoon. BIL has a lot of health issues already and I feel awful if we gave him something else to worry about just in time for Christmas Sad.

PenguinArmy · 19/12/2011 22:39

BG :( You weren't to know as I'm sure BIL realises the risks of visiting toddlers especially in winter near xmas so don't beat yourself up.

BabyGiraffes · 19/12/2011 23:46

PA I know. Ironic though because we had already postponed our visit twice to make sure we don't pass anything on...

BigBlueBear · 20/12/2011 11:06
InmaculadaConcepcion · 20/12/2011 12:25

Aw, BG - sorry to hear about DD2. I hope she's back on form very soon and definitely in time for Christmas!

Great to hear from you, chocolatey! Yum to that recipe.

bethy sorry to hear you had a tempestuous start to your holiday. But good news on the potty use - very impressive!

Here's hoping no poorlyness in your camp, PA....

DD is being generally delightful at the moment with one fly in the ointment - she's suddenly turning super-fussy about food again. Refusing to eat things she used to enjoy and generally shrinking her repertoire again. She often tries things, but usually spits them out after one chew.

I think it may have been because we softened up a bit and have also been allowing her more sweet treats/puddings atm (Xmas syndrome).
Lots of full sentences, though:
"What's he/she doing?" is one that makes us laugh given the times when DD chooses to ask the question.... Xmas Smile

dd2 is now on antibiotics for tonsillitis Sad. Glad I took her to the GP (and he is the one very reluctant to prescribe antibiotics for anything, so she really is quite unwell).
Brew and homemade Lebkuchen [biscuits] for you all... Smile

PenguinArmy · 20/12/2011 13:26

hope she starts to feel better soon, that's one advantage of ABs is how quickly they kick in.

Our house is doing alright, just full of snot. DS is back feeding normally and the psuedo growth spurt to boost supply didn't last too long either. He's still coughy and I think he's snot is just waiting to come out.

Just broke the glass panel in our front door so waiting for a window man to come and board it for me... in fact I think I hear him pulling up

PenguinArmy · 20/12/2011 14:19

all done and they both slept through all the banging Shock

My main issue is that since I'm used to staying up with DS, the past few nights I've been unable to get to sleep at a decent time.

Just spent a small fortune brought xmas cards for DHs family. They all have to be addressed to the correct member and for some stupid reason I brought cards to be from the kids, but thinking about it I'm just setting myself up for more expense and hassle. I don't know what's the consensus should I or wait until they write it themselves?

BabyGiraffes · 20/12/2011 15:56

I have a new benchmark for my girls... If one of them turns down both satsumas and chocolate buttons they are ill enough to need to see a doctor Grin.

PA wait until they can write it themselves... Wink What happened to your door?

BabyGiraffes · 20/12/2011 16:41

dd2 has just added a very runny nappy to her list of woes (quite a feat in itself as she hasn't eaten since Saturday). Presumably a reaction to the first dose of antibiotics she had at lunchtime... Ah well. Hopefully she's much better by Christmas.

BabyGiraffes · 21/12/2011 12:37

I am close to cancelling Christmas Angry. dd2 has cried solidly from 8 this morning until about 5 minutes ago when she fell asleep in her cot. She is clearly quite unwell and I feel totally helpless that cuddles (she keeps trying to crawl into me for comfort), calpol and antibiotics cannot help to make her feel better. dd1 meanwhile has turned into a monster because she also has a cold and because she is very jealous of the attention her poorly sister is getting from me.... Sad. I can't win, can I. I also feel a little ratty myself because I was up about 5 times last night with one or the other and have a cold coming on myself. Right, no more moaning and plan of action: coffee, chocolates, lemsip and mn while dd1 has stopped moaning temporarily to do some very elaborate art work with much glue and glitter (I'll deal with the consequences of the latter later...)

BigBlueBear · 21/12/2011 13:46

BG :( Hope DD2 feels better soon. If she's no better by tomorrow, the doctor may have given you the wrong antibiotics, so do go back and ask for her to be looked over again.

BabyGiraffes · 21/12/2011 14:00

Thanks BBB I may well do that. He did say to bring her back if she's no better/worse. Poor little thing Sad.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 21/12/2011 14:55

Aw, BG, so sorry to hear that. In my limited knowledge, tonsillitis usually responds pretty quickly to anti-bis. Here's hoping the Dr did indeed give her the right ones and the infection gets knocked on the head pronto. Poor little thing. And poor old DD1 too. And poor you Xmas Sad

Oh bollocks. I didn't tick the 'like' button on this thread on purpose. I don't know how long it's been on my profile. Shit. Have deleted it now but damage probably done.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 21/12/2011 17:15

Do you mean it's linked to FB, Bc?

If people are worried about that, I could start a new thread...??

Quick hello from France

bc saw the like button. No issue for me but I guess it's a way to mix mn and rl and wonder why MN did it

BG I hope your DD2 gets better and I agree about getting other AB

We had to go to a doctor over here today as DS has a bad cough and fever so he has a bronchiolitis (1st one this year) so he's under AB and steroids) I hope he'll perk up by Saturday

Sending get well soon dust to all mums and LO
