I bung the girls on bouncy chairs in front of the tumble drier! Tends to send them off and keep them there until they are in a deep sleep! Ayse likes to be sung too while you lay cheek to cheek and ede just likes to be full ad warm (the little guzzler). Both like long walks in the fresh air (so dies mummy when nanny takes them and i get to watch tv for an hour)

GroovyRach · 23/11/2011 08:14

So she catnapped in bouncer for 10 mins then eyes pinged open again! I admitted defeat and put lights on in bedroom. I just sat talking to her for half hour. She was calm and happy for a change! Done one last nappy change/wind etc, put her down in Moses with dummy, put all lights off and just left her. Didn't hear a peep and after 10 mins she was out! That was about 12.30 and that's her just waking now for a feed! She will sleep great once asleep, it's just getting her into the land of nod that proves difficult!!!

Would love to stay in bed aswell but health visitor is coming at 10am and house is a riot! Hoping my mum might take her this afternoon for a few hours cos I need a break Blush lol.

Thanks for suggestions, I wil try the massage tonight!

Jnice · 23/11/2011 09:23

Lots to catch up on here! Will get reading...

Leo is 1 month old today, tomorrow we have a midwife appointment. He is spitting up loads after every feed, sometimes an hour later. He hates lying flat in his back - so I wonder if it's reflux. Might explain the slow weight gain.

Sleep is still sporadic and comes in small chunks.

GroovyRach · 23/11/2011 10:01

Jnice- sounds like reflux. S has it and is the same as you describe. Got infant gaviscon from gp and has been much better since we started on it! No more outfit change after every feed due to being soaked!

CheshireDing · 23/11/2011 11:10

Well P LOVED Water Babies. I was very impressed too, I thought due to her age she would just end up being floated on her back but it was much more advanced than that!

Bearing in mind her age we did bounces in the water, sat on the side and bounced in, did a little swim and she head her head up automatically, spun round, head under water once and it was all made to be fun of course so they are not scared. I wouldn't have had the confidence to do some of the things with her because she is so new and little so it's definitely been worth it this morning.

Plus, she is pooped and out for the count Grin

GroovyRach · 23/11/2011 12:10

Cheshire - would love to try waterbabies! Must look to see if any classes local. How exciting!

Well health visitor just away. S now weighs 9lbs10, 6lbs2 a birth so gaining well. Still on 9th centile but is consistent so all good. She commented on how bright and alert she is so thinks she might just be one of these babies who doesn't need to sleep much through the day. Not what I was wanting to hear but not much I can do about that! Did suggest tryin to get into a routine at night of bath, bottle and into bed while still awake, but I know it's easier said than done!!

A friend suggested that maybe if I have cot in my room rather than Moses, she might settle better at night as she can still see me? Might bring cot through for tonight and give it a go.

Right, on with the Christmas shopping!! Xx

PenguinArmy · 23/11/2011 13:15

glad u liked the swim class, they do literally dive straight in don't they.

BB3 happy birthday! (for yesterday now sorry just missed it haven't been online today) hope you had a lovely time and that girls slept/ film was good/ you got spoilt rotten xx

LittlePebble · 24/11/2011 01:47

Elijah was weighed today at a whopping 11lbs 14 ozs he's getting very long and seems to be thriving on just my milk which is great, hv said he's following the right line on centile chart he's just a big baby hence all the feeding! Mind you his dad is 6ft 2 and broad so definitely taking after him not midget me!

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 24/11/2011 04:34

M is now 10lb 11oz so has put on 3lbs since birth 4wks ago.
She is still v snuffly, and ds now has a tummy bug the joys!
On the bright side I now just have ds Xmas to get and thats me finished, counting the days till dec 1st so I can get out the Xmas music and decorations :-)
Are any of you getting baby anything for Xmas? If so what? On the one hand I think she'll be 8 weeks old so y bother on the other I feel she should have something :-/

LittlePebble · 24/11/2011 05:13

Edward we're only getting one thing and that's a playmat/ baby gym thing as he doesn't have one at mo. Otherwise we're leaving presents for the family to get!
Can't wait for Christmas either Grin

CheshireDing · 24/11/2011 06:40

I don't think we will bother Edward. We have put money in her new bank accounts so we have asked relatives to put in to those too (if they want to).

Pebble some of those baby gym's are really expensive aren't they, yes that would definitely be a Christmas present jobby.

I am really looking forward to getting a Christmas card for DH which says "to Daddy", it sounds so cute :)

P got her passport yesterday too - the photo looks ridiculous Grin, I honestly cannot see how she can travel on it until she is 5 when her photo is of a 4-ish week old baby!

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 24/11/2011 06:56

I agree re the passport ds is about 6 months in his and could easily now be a different child lol.

Don't spend too much on a baby gym, ds's was £80 at the time and was so big/fidgety that I couldn't be bothered pulling it out/putting it away all the time so it never got used and was eventually sold at a car boot!

Go for one that fold v easily has a carry case and will fit under/behind the sofa when not in use.

BB3 · 24/11/2011 07:14

Thanks pebble and happy birthday to you too! Are you doing anything nice? I had a lovely relaxed day yesterday ran some errands in the morning twilight at the cinema in the afternoon (which I thought was very good for what felt like the 'filler' film). Dh home early with a florist in his arms and takeaway and an early night!

Re gyms the girls got one each from my work when they were born and try are huge things we got a ladybird one from m&p and a butterfly one from and to be honest they are not really interested yet - think they will be at Christmas though as they'll be 3 months then. I'm just going to buy them a fee tummy time toys I think as everyone else will buy them clothes an toys too and they really won't know and I'll get them a baby's first Christmas keepsake from John Lewis (not sure what yet) but I didn't get ds one and really regret it now.

Ds' passport is ridiculous. He was 5 weeks old and now at 2.5 it looks more like Ayse than him!! Grin

Off to see the trainer again this morning hopefully will be able to work off my cinema treats and takeaway!! Wink although I still hurt from Tuesday's session so hoping there are no lunges involved today!!!

Hope everyone has good days x

LittlePebble · 24/11/2011 07:24

Thanks BB3 I'm off to a swanky restaurant in Dartmouth for lunch where DP proposed on my birthday last year (we were meant to be married by now but E came along much quicker than we thought!)
Hadn't looked at play gyms yet are they really that expensive (gulp!) might ask for one from a grandparent then and look at something else instead.
edward thanks for tips on what to buy we don't have a lot of space so will definitely look for one that packs up easily.
Waiting for a cup of tea/ breakfast in bed but no sign of movement from DP yet Wink

bilblio · 24/11/2011 10:08

I don't think we're going to bother with Christmas presents for S this year. My parents are just going to give him money. I will take DD out to choose him something though. It's a nice way to teach her that Father Christmas doesn't buy all the presents!
I've decided I'm going to buy her a printer, we need one and she keeps wanting to print things. She did say the other day she's like a pink little girl's printer, but I don't think they do them. Other than that all she's asked for is some slippers, some earmuffs, and "a princess castle". She got a "fairy castle" for her birthday, and she has a doll's house. She's been looking through catalogues for "elastic walls". I've told her we need some of them before she can have anymore big toys. :o

I got S weighed yesterday. He's 11lb 11oz and on the 75th centile. Not bad considering his short-arsed parents and a tongue tie.

Oh lovely, our first leaky nappy.. all up his back and he was leaning on me. Hmm

PenguinArmy · 24/11/2011 10:14

Hope b'day ladies had/having a great time.

bilblio DS was sick in the sling yesterday, straight down into my bra HmmGrin

received a letter from the ILs yesterday. Apparently they are very concerned about us and are coming down in Jan for a few days This is in addition to us spending xmas eve and xmas day there (which I did because I was feeling guilty!!) I'm going to try and postpone it. I thought (and still do) we were doing pretty well. My DM thinks they're just trying to seed some thoughts of doubt so we take their 'help'. I wish they would just ask outright can they come down for a nice visit instead of trying to dress it up. Plus my cousin had a baby boy yesterday but cord was too tight and it's in special care :(

(sorry that was about me)

Happy Birthday BB3 and LittlePebble!!

I'm soooo excited for Christmas this year! I've bought a few little things for S do far. In thinking that it's things I'll be buying in a few months anyway so might as well wrap them up and pretend to be from Santa! Got some great Lamaze toys kiddicare Smile

Re baby gyms, someone gave me a great one. It's very simple in that it's just the soft mat with the 2 'bars' over. Lots of little spaces to clip to hang things from. Folds up easy too but it's became a feature of my living room now Blush. S likes to lay under it just looking at things. Past few days tho she has been trying to reach out for the toys!

My mum came after her work this morning and collected the munchkin. Gives me a few hrs to tidy up, get to shops etc. the simple things eh?!

Hope everyone's having a gd day. It's getting wee bit cooler here in Scotland now. To think this time last year, we were knee deep in snow!!

MrsP81 · 24/11/2011 10:53

Oh penguin, hope everything turns out ok for your cousin's LO. Sad I agree that your ILs should just ask outright if they can visit, sending a letter expressing concerns seems a little odd.

cheshire, it was my DH's birthday last week so I got a birthday card that said "to Daddy". So cute!

I don't think we're going to get DD any christmas presents this year, she won't know any different and I'm sure she'll get plenty from other family!

Happy birthday pebble and BB3, hope you had/are having lovely days.

Hope you're ok awen.

We had a crap night last night, very little sleep. DD is spitting up more than usual. Reflux keeps coming to mind but she prefers to lie flat rather than be upright so that doesn't make sense. Confused I think she has wind too, we tried infacol but this resulted in projectile vomit. Possibly a coincidence but it's put me right off using it again!

I really should get dressed and get out of these four walls before I go completely insane.......

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 24/11/2011 11:13

Happy birthday bb3 and pebble

pebble the gyms dont have to be expensive the one I'm gonna get this time is only £20 from Argos/asda and folds in half easily with 2bars over and a plastic cover to keep dust etc off when stored.
Ds's had "Walls" and 3 bars and so had to be "built" and stored in the box meant he was in it a cpl of times and cost a fortune. But he was my PFB so I'm sure everyone buys ridiculous expensive things first time Grin

groovy I second the cold weather, dh wanted to buy snow shovels/sledge etc a the weekend and has already got his snow tires on his car (he's a driving instructor and lost a fortune last winter) I joked that I bet everyone in Scotland really prepares this year and we dont get any snow lol.

Ds has gone to aunty's today, so I'm getting housework done and putting some stuff on eBay. Might get his Xmas presses in if I have time. if I ever get off MN

GroovyRach · 24/11/2011 11:43

Ed- we were talking about that yesterday! After the chaos of last year, prob won't get any snow!! I was looking forward to the fact that if it was a repeat of last year, me and S would be all snuggled up in the house, not having to go out. Getting to and from work was a nightmare!! Typical!! Envy

TallyBear · 24/11/2011 12:14

Glad to hear others are also thinking about not doing xmas pressies for their lo's this year. At 2 months old it seems a bit pointless, although we might get a few things that we would get anyway. I like the idea of a name plaque for his room door and perhaps something to keep. Other than that I'm sure the rellies will keep him stocked in toys or £ for his account (yet to be set up).

S is now interested in the toy bar on his bouncy chair (speaking of which, he is now happily ensconced in chair in front of washing machine - which is cleaning up the mess of the combination of an explosive nappy and a wriggly baby (all down the leg, on foot (repeatedly), down arm Confused, all over mat...). He also loves a cat rattle that my friend bought him and follows it with his eyes.

PenguinArmy · 24/11/2011 13:45

Playmats: We have one like this which folds up well for taking to grandparents/behind the sofa etc. We also brought this one back from the US with us. The extra large area was useful for our hardwood floors.

DS doesn't on/in stuff a lot due to the menace that is DD

Thanks for birthday messages had lovely day breakfast in bed and my first card addressed to mummy (had a little tear) and flowers etc from Eli then lunch out and a laptop from DP for my birthday/ Christmas so very spoilt. Just enjoying a chilled evening now and hopefully an uneventful night with lots of sleep. Smile

Bumpsadaisie · 25/11/2011 12:17

Girls, just to share a little epiphany I have had this morning.

If you want to guarantee a clear hour to do sth important or with your other DC, or just get through lunch in peace, then first of all work out how long your washing machine cycle is. Note how long it takes to get on to rinse/spin.

Then time putting on the wash so that the rinse/spin cycle starts 5/10 mins before the thing you want to do (eg lunch). 30 mins before the spin/rinse cycle starts, give the baby a massive feed and nappy change. Then as the spin cycle starts put them in the pram. Out for the count!

Then you will have an hour or even three to have lunch in peace/pay your poor old elder DC some attention!!
