Hi arch

mumtomoley · 08/09/2011 12:05

haha - bless your DH Chilli! He sounds lovely :) He must be thinking about taking care of her even in his sleep!

Kitty, hope you're both feeling better soon x

GlaikitFizzog · 08/09/2011 13:08

Hi, just quickly posting beofre going out, will do my big post later!

MrsW Asda have their baby event on just now and had 2 car seats on their leaflets for £25, and birth to 4 years one and bigger one up to 6 years. I know it's not somethingyou want to scrimp on but I think they are more than half price. might be worth having a look if you need to get 2. :o

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 08/09/2011 13:22

T finally down for a nap and I have expressed.

Those of you who express and feed EBM - how much do your babies take over a 4 hour period? I will be feeding T at around 1pm, and then I'll need to put my dress on and head over to the church. It is going to be 4-5pm at least before I can get changed. Obviously I can get changed if he is howling, but I'd rather not as it may potentially bugger up photos etc and I don't want to let my friend down.
He will often go about 3 hours without a feed at this time of day anyway, especially if he has a decent nap (please God).
If we take 15oz of milk do you think that will be enough?

Can you tell I'm stressed? Grin

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 08/09/2011 13:22

Btw T weighs over 19bs and is 23 weeks. He is not a small baby Hmm

JoEW · 08/09/2011 13:48

Hi all,

We're off to France this avo so have spent the entire morning packing the house into the car. God, it's such a chore!

Just a quick post from me.

Ali I think you'll be fine with 15oz (not going on C who doesn't take big feeds) I think 7oz per feed would be plenty, so you have two decent size feeds there. Probably more. I remember when I was expressing and EBM and it was so terrifying thinking you might run out. I think you'll be fine.

MrsW C was only diagnosed with CMPI about a month ago and I still think it's bonkers that he was in hospital for six weeks and we left without knowing he had reflux. His symptoms are exactly as Daisy describes, I think the gurgles and cramping are the ones that set it apart from reflux, IMO. I hope it's just some teething issues but don't be afraid to get help from the GP. We use Aptamil Pepti and it's worked really well for us. I'm here too if you want to ask anything.

Kitty hope you all feel better soon. Sounds grim.

Arch hello!

Fizz so sad about the dear pooch.

Broken night here, last night. C woke up around midnight and then wouldn't settle so I eventually fed him at 1pm. Then he woke at 4am I fed him again but he wasn't hungry. Wouldn't settle again so at 5am I gave him Calpol and took him in with me. I think it was teething pain. In the midst of that I had a horrible nightmare about someone attacking him and woke up with that vile adrenalin feeling. URGH. And tonight I would like him to sleep while we drive through French villages looking for the cottage. Fingers crossed!

That's not a quick post at all....

GlaikitFizzog · 08/09/2011 17:21

Ali when B was just on my milk he had 5x5/6ozs bottles a day. no more than 30ozs a day unless he was on a spurt. I would say you have more than enough with 15 ozs. Don't stress, even if its not enough, might there be somewhere you can go, slip off dress, feed and put the dress back on? Save you getting changed too soon? Maybe pack a vest and leggings to pop on for the feed so you're not sitting in your undies?? Enjoy the day, I've never been a Bridesmaid:(! :)

My question of the day today is how do the formula feeders amoungst us deal with night time feeds. B has taken to waking at 4 or 5ish looking for afeed, and we have about 3 minutes to get it to him before we go into complete meltdown.

And i have another, sorry, you can start charging me for answers!! If B falls asleep feeding, he starts shaking all over, hands and feet are the worst, but i can feel his little body shaking too. He had a really strong one today that lasted ages. I thought he was having a fit. but it stopped as soon as i woke him. Normal or something to see someone about?

have a fab time JoEW

Chilli The treehouse is quite stunning. They live in it in Summer. It sounded like a hippy deathtrap but in reality it's an amazing house built around a tree up at some height. They put steps up the steep hill and constructed a balcony from the hillside to the house. It has electricity and running water. It has a sauna, shower, loo, a bar, Sitting room with the trunk of the tree growing through it and a bedroom all with amazing views over a Loch. I was completely bowled over by it. I was expecting something akin to rough sleeping like a monkey but instead was treated to luxury. They even have a set of terraces set into the hillside one for having a BBQ, others for growing veg and fruit. The picture of myself and R on the FB page is taken with the loch in the distance.

Sorry to hear of those suffering with allergies and intolerances, sounds awful.

Referring back a bit (as I've just caught up with posts): DTD. Must admit after having quite painful physio appointments (due to pregnancy induced injuries) I'm not in any hurry to have another baby in the near future. We use a method which has less than 5% failure rate but I suppose isn't widely published as it is not exactly a money spinner (www.woomb.org/animation.html) although I'm still at the stage where I'm not much interested in DTD (probably down to breastfeeding hormones no doubt). Luckily DH has experienced this stage before with my oldest and knows I'll get back to myself given time so this time no silent strops or tiny "poor him" guilt trips required.

It was a lovely idea to have the FB page. It was a delight to look at.

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 08/09/2011 18:18

Fizz the shaking sounds weird. I think I would go to the drs and see what they say. Does he go a long time between feeds? I am just wondering if his blood sugar is getting very low.

Thanks for he reassurance about the quantity of milk! Unfortunately due to the size of my boobs, getting the dress done up is a two person job Blush So once it is on then I'd rather leave it on until I can ditch it for the day! Not sure there will be anywhere quiet, church and then a marquee reception.

architien · 08/09/2011 18:53

x-posts Fizz. I agree with Ali. I would call NHS24 and get advice tonight.

mumtomoley · 08/09/2011 18:55

Ali, I think that sounds enough as well. When G was just on breast milk he'd only take a small bit from the bottles anyway and save himself for when he could have boob (and he was totally happy doing this) so it may be you don't even need that much.

Although I'd always take a carton of formula as well just incase. 99% likely you won't need it, but I just think if say the bottle got spilt or something it's good to have a back up. I never used it but made me feel better to know there was something there for an emergency!

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 08/09/2011 20:02

Just wrote a blood great message and lost it. Annoying.

Go and see your GP Fizz. I wouldn't like to speculate as it may be nothing, but go and put your mind at rest.

Sounds like you have an impressive pair of babs there Ali. Two people to help you get in the dress? Is that one boob each? Grin

The treehouse sounds awesome Archie!

Ds was 3 today. Three whole years since I pushed him out into the pool in the living room

Natzer · 08/09/2011 20:18

Fizz for night feeds we would make up a bottle before bed, cool quickly and put it in the fridge. Then in the night we just whack it in the microwave ( I know this is technically wrong but obviously not for very long and shaken well to avoid hot spots).

Otherwise we used to use ready made, but it worked out expensive.

Hope this helps Grin

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 08/09/2011 20:22

Oh hell - as in me + one other (DH). Blush

Happy birthday to your DS ILike Grin

JKSLtd · 08/09/2011 20:24

Fizz - a quick google seems to say that it is quite common around this age and they grow out of it, something to do with an immature nervous system. But of course check it out with a doc anyway to confirm.

Had a lovely swim with DD this morning, only us 2 in the pool for most of it.
Then we came home and she crashed out for 2 hours :)

GlaikitFizzog · 08/09/2011 20:40

Thanks JKS, I was too scared to google myself. FIL had epilepsy, and SIL had fits when she was younger, so that was what ran through my head when it happened. I'll call the surgery first thing in the morning and get him checked up for peace of mind.

JKSLtd · 08/09/2011 20:43

I know, epilepsy did run through my head, DS2 had severe epilepsy (had brain surgery to remove his temporal lobe but is doing fine now) so i get nervous when i see/hear of twitching.
But there is something that changes in brain waves when we fall asleep and in babies their systems are immature so that might cause it.

Starshaped · 08/09/2011 22:34

Hello Arch!

JKS How frightening for you and DS2. I'm glad that all is well with him now.

Fizz Just to second everybody else, I'd go and and get B checked out by the doctor, even if it just puts your own mind at rest. Fingers crossed that it's nothing to worry about.

JoEW Am very envious of your holiday. I wish we were getting away this year. Have a fabulous time.

Not much to report here. After the problems of the last few weeks, we've had a few good nights (and naps) here of late. Only one wake up between 7am - 7pm yesterday! I'm sure that's means we're due a bad one now though!

P has also been napping more reliably, tending to have 3 or 4 mini naps a day (usually in her cot). They rarely last more than 30 mins but I'm not going to worry about that if she carries on sleeping ok at night! Fingers crossed we've turned a corner...

Cyclebump · 09/09/2011 08:04

Noooooo! I go back to work tomorrow and H had a bad night last night. I so hope he's better tonight or I'll be even worse at remembering children's names than usual Confused

Wow JKS, that sounds scary. So glad surgery was a success. My sister had childhood epilepsy but it was what used to be called petit mall so the fits were mainly absences and repeated movements. What always shocked me was people's attitudes. She used to phase out at the top of escalators a lot as she was scared of them and we were often shoved out of the way and knocked over by angry commuters on the tube despite my mum trying to explain what was happening.

She stopped fitting once puberty hit. Her only relapse being when she was given the MMR at about 13.

Hopefully it's nothing Fizz but I reckon a GP visit might be good just in case.

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 09/09/2011 08:11

Bleugh bad night with DS1 again.

chillikat · 09/09/2011 12:56

We're just back from swim-a-song. I was hoping M would have a long nap again but she has other ideas :( we did better this week. Even managed to get across the pool with her on my chest without her going in :)

She seems to have realised she needs to lift her bum up in order to crawl, but this seems to result in her head going back onto the floor and her getting frustrated.

I'm slightly concerned how much she's enjoying Bargain Hunt Hmm - she's turning towards the TV and making lot of talking noises - will this make her an antiques expert or a daytime TV addict?

Hope everything was ok Fizz

Arch treehouse sounds great - I'll go check out the photos...

GlaikitFizzog · 09/09/2011 15:34

Still waiting for the Doc to call back. No appointments until next Monday. You really don't want to be ill around here!! He did it again through the night and at his feed about 2 hours ago. But he seems fine. Had a poosplosion earlier which warranted a complete change for him and me!

I think I have solved the DH birthday present dilemma. My dad has a friend who organises corporate jollies and has contacts at Old Trafford! He said he can get me tickets!!!! I'm so excited, but can't tell anyone in case they let it slip! You have to keep it to yourselves ladies!!

Sassy20 · 09/09/2011 16:54

Fizz can't believe your docs. Ours will fit you in on the day if it's a baby! Hope everything's ok. I agree with the others that it's best to get it checked.

Cycle Sad at your return to work.

GlaikitFizzog · 09/09/2011 17:02

Just back! Doc called said she thought it was myoclonic(sp?) jerks, like when we are falling asleep and get the feeling we are falling, but to take him donw and get him checked over. So he's fine, they cheked his ears and glands incase there was an infection, took his temp but everything is normal. Because he continues feeding when he's shaking it's not a fit apparently. So I am happy that it's just something he will grow out of has his nevous system matures! Phew! I was getting a bit worried there!

JKS your diagnosis was right! But best to get checked!

Cyclebump · 09/09/2011 17:12

Glad it's all fine Fizz, looking back at my post it was a bit scaremongery, sorry Blush

H has been super whingey all day, I actually cried after an hour and a half of whining, screaming and nipple biting earlier. According to DP i should have 'stayed calm' Hmm I love him but sometimes I do wonder why...
