Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Well we got backfrom the homeland at 3, fed B and he went for a nap at 5ish. He's still sleeping! Think he is in recovery from the overstimulation of my paretns! I mean i would need to be put in a medically induced coma rest after 5 days of my mum, dad, sister and brother la la laling in my face all the time to get me to laugh and realising that when I'm tired I need to be left alone not bounced, tickled or thrown in the air. That on top of the lurgy he's got just means he needs his sleep.

More blisters appeared overnight, so I'm begining to wonder if Dr saying he was no longer contagious once teh blisters were out is right? Can't find out on NHS website. I'd best just keep him away from people until I know for sure. Shame, because a photographer is coming to M&B group on Tuesday and I was going to get him all dressed up.

We had a wedding last night and we stayed int he hotel, so I've done it, left my PFB overnight all by his self (ok with my parents) and we both survived!!

Got my meeting with work tomorrow, bricking it!

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 02/10/2011 23:09

Fizz good luck with the work meeting, don't take any shit!

kittycatcat · 03/10/2011 04:01

Awh well done chilli

fizz ditto Ali and good luck. Hehe re family induced coma Smile

kittycatcat · 03/10/2011 08:51

Dr Hilary is on Lorraine talking about postnatal depression, and said mumsnet is a great organisation for bringing mums together Grin Well said that man!

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 03/10/2011 08:53

Arch - you can't have a winter up there without heating. Is the boiler scrap age scheme still in existence? Also speak to the environmental health department at your local council to see if they have any schemes or grants at the moment. They often have grants that they don't really advertise.

Ali - ds has had lots of potty regressions. We have never really been unable to pin point why, but we have our suspicions. Lack of attention, boredom and possibly being woken in the night by I.

I has been waking in the night a lot too. If it continues I may have to actually do some daytime sleep training as I'm wondering if that has something to do with it.

JKSLtd · 03/10/2011 09:39

chili - how did it go? personally i love having my room back when the DC move out but i know it's hard.

DS1 didn't have too many regressions re toilet training as such, but he started so bloody late maybe he didn't need to. but any accidents he had were nearly always because he left it too late, busy playing/watching tv/etc. he got overconfident i think at times.

we had a good night here, the sod's law lie-in on a Monday morning approach Grin (from the DC that is, DH was up at 5.30 to get to work early).

architien · 03/10/2011 10:29

chilli hope you had a quiet night!

Thanks for well wishes ref heat I'm going to get another couple of engineers out, at least I should find out the aim.

Fizz Family induced coma made me smile :) Thanks Get what you want from the meeting and take no prisoners. You deserve an equivalent or improved role in pay, status, daily tasks and future prospects.

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 03/10/2011 13:55

ILike - I have my suspicions that it might be what he perceives as a lack of attention. With T at the table eating with us now, and with him crawling and generally being a bit more in DS1's 'territory' so to speak, I think he might be feeling a bit threatened.
If T would nap occasionally in the day it would help!

JKS - there is definitely an element of that too, he can't be bothered to tear himself away from whatever he is doing.

Fizz I hope your meeting has gone/is going ok.

kitty - good to hear him saying something sensible for once! Too often he is in the 'bash breastfeeding' corner and makes me Angry

T is asleep in his buggy. Really need to go and clean upstairs...

GlaikitFizzog · 03/10/2011 14:01

I'm back from the dragons den Wink! Itactually wasn't as scary as I thought it would be. All the changes they were implementing badly when I went off have bedded in now so things have improved. The girl who is my cover has taken on line management responsibilty for part of the team and everything that goes with it, appraisals, developemnt plans etc. Which isn;t really my bag, I'm a figures and processes girl, and work know this. So I don't particularly want to go back to that, and they don;t think that could eb done part time anyway. HOWEVER, and this is the good bit, they are about to recruit for an analyst in my team, which is my bag . It would be a promotion (more££££), but my boss said she thought I would be interested in it as soon as it was discussed. They haven't considered it as a flexible post, but it will be advertised in the next week or so. In the meantime I'm going to do some KIT days over the next few months to get a feel for the place and the work again.

So all in all a positive experieince! They actually seem keen for me to come back!

I went into the nursery that is next door to my building for a nosey and that looks like a possibility too. I get a 5% discount for working on the campus then factoring in childcare vouchers should bring it in to affordability bracket.

caramellokoalalover · 03/10/2011 14:52

Sounds really positive Fizz! Glad it wasn't as bad as you thought it would be.

Ali is T crawling?! How did I miss that! I'm amazed. S is still not sitting on her own...but then again she doesn't get as much floor time as DS had as we're always out doing things with DS. I'm not in a hurry for her to get on the move tbh. I like that she stays where I put her. Chasing DS around is bad enough Grin.

Terrible few days in the caramel camp. DH got food poisoning Friday night so was useless all weekend - so sympathetic, me! DS is all snuffly and rather than being one of those children who sits and cuddles when they're ill, he goes bonkers and acts up. He's already hit me with the mop this morning and peeled a chunk of wallpaper off the wall Shock.

chillikat · 03/10/2011 14:54

It went pretty well actually :) I doubted whether we'd get past the first sleep cycle but first wake up was 2.30, feed, change and back down :) then another feed at 4.45 and back down. She was still asleep when DH's alarm went off and ended up having about 12 hours in total, though she needed it after bugger all naps yesterday. I was ok, had the monitor on still, even though she's only in the next room I can sleep through earthquakes and thunderstorms so didn't want to only wake when she got to hysterical. Fingers crossed tonight will go as well.
She's being delightful today (thus far).

I'm in work too tomorrow for a team meeting. M is coming too and will be fussed over be everyone from the office hopefully will sleep for most of the meeting but might suddenly need a nappy change if there's any teambuilding rubbish ;)

Fizz my DH love excel too, I'm more of an Access girl :)

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 03/10/2011 16:15

We love Excel in this house too, we have spreadsheets for everything Blush

caramel - what a nightmare. I am always irrationally angry at DH for being ill because it just makes my life harder Grin
I wasn't in a hurry for T to be on the move either, and after this afternoon I'm seriously considering a playpen for the living room. I have had to rescue him from DS1's potty (empty thank goodness) and the fireplace. Confused

Fizz that sounds really postive :)

kittycatcat · 03/10/2011 17:10

Oh is he Ali. didn't know that. Angry too.

Glad it went well fizz. fingers crossed for the promotion.

chilli glad it went well.

I just tried s with baby rice. He blew it back at me raspberry stylee but I was doing it when he was due a feed and as it transpires, tired. Thoughts?

GlaikitFizzog · 03/10/2011 19:05

arch have you seen this website. You have to pay for it upfront and claim back the money though. Also, the free insulation (cavity wall or loft) is worth taking up too. Although, I think you live in an older house, do you, I don;t know why I think that. Local council should be able to point you in the direction of getting "green" grants and the like. My brother is a plumber and has insalled a quite a few new boilers under the scrappage scheme. Worth a look at.

MrsWajs · 03/10/2011 19:31

Kitty R likes to blow raspberrys on occasion too! I would just try him again tomorrow and see how it goes.
Fizz Glad your meeting went well, my first KIT day is Thursday, thankfully boss is on holiday so don't have to see her face!!
Arch Definitely agree you need heating for a scottish winter, we had temps as low as -20c last year it was ridiculous!! Not quite sure how we're going to fare as we've never had our heating off all year on account of R so think we'll definitely notice a difference once the temperature starts really dropping!!

Well I would like my (somewhat late) admission to the crap sleepers club now please!! On Saturday night DP and I decided we'd have an early night as he hasn't been sleeping well from nightshift and I never go to bed before midnight when he's not here. So, it went a bit like this.....
DSS went to bed at 8pm, R didn't have the nap she normally would have at that time but we figured she'd be fine, so she was fed and put to bed at about 9pm. DP and I went to bed at 10, R woke at 10.30, resettled her with dummy which was fine, 10 minutes later DSS woke up crying, so resettled him. DP and I couldn't sleep as it was so warm so watched tv for a bit. DP eventually fel asleep at about 11.30pm but I was still wide awake. R woke again screaming at 00.10am, tried to resettle her again but no such luck then DSS woke again. Took R in to our room and changed her, gave her some calpol and bonjela (covering all possible angles!) and then put her down in her crib (thank god we haven't taken it down yet) she then lay and babbled for an hour, which although hilarious, was a tiny bit annoying! Eventually she dropped off about 1am, I stil couldn't get to sleep until about 2am and then she woke again for a feed at 5am :( and then again for the day at 8.30am. I was honestly knackered. DP also staked his claim on a long lie and slept until 11am!!!!!!! So then I was knackered and pissed off! Thankfully it seems to have been a one off but to those of you still doing that on a regular basis - you are my heroes - how the feck do you function!!!?

Cyclebump · 03/10/2011 19:37

H wasn't keen on baby rice until I added some fruit purée. He responded far better to veg purees at dinner time about an hour after a milk feed. He's six months old on Wednesday and 26 weeks tomorrow! Shock

We went to baby yoga today and have already got an invite to go for coffee after next week's session. Hurray for my MIL insisting I go (it's at the children's centre adjoined to the school where she works).

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 03/10/2011 21:47

Kitty it is fairly grim tasting stuff tbh Grin Try a bit of fruit and see what he thinks? If he's still not keen then I would leave it and try again in another week or two.

MrsW - I haven't had more than one or two decent night's sleep in a row for almost 4 years, and I think I've just got used to coping on not very much.
When I do get a decent night - 7 hours or so - then I am like a zombie the next day!

kittycatcat · 03/10/2011 21:58

Should I puree the fruit?

The rice looks vile. He was taking spag Bol sauce of my finger quite merrily but it's too soon for that. Ta

chillikat · 03/10/2011 22:46

I think the rice looks vile too, though M wolfed it down for breakfast mixed with apple puree and yogurt.

Kitty how old is S again? I started by giving carrot puree along side sticks of cooked carrot, same with sweet potato. Sweet potato is the winner here so far, but tonight she's had spag bol pureed down a bit smoother. The Ellas Kitchen sachets of puree are really good if you want to do some purees.

MrsWajs · 04/10/2011 00:23

The organix banana porridge is good too Kitty that's what R has for breakfast, I also use the puree fruit pouches to add to it and then keep the rest for tea time when I mix it with broccolli or cauliflower as R won't eat that on it's own. Sweet potato and carrot she'll eat no problem though. Was also a tad concerned about encouraging a sweet tooth but Id rather she ate a variety of different things even if it means adding a bit of fruit to get her to eat it, I just reduce the amount of fruit each time til there's practically none. Todays tea was broccolli, apple and blackcurrant mush!! Yesterdays was cauliflower, mango and orange mush Grin R loves it!!

kittycatcat · 04/10/2011 04:47

Thanks ladies. S will be 21 weeks tomorrow (5 months on 11th)

Cyclebump · 04/10/2011 06:38

We use the Ella's Kitchen pouches occasionally too. Mainly DP when he's got H alone on Saturdays when I'm working. We introduced yoghurt at 25 and a half weeks and H LOVES it!

Ella's Kitchen do breakfast pouches of baby rice, yoghurt and fruit and they're perfect when DP is taking H out and about in the morning. They visit jobs or watch the rugby matches then go to a greasy spoon and DP has a fry up which feeding H his breakfast.

The pouches are only really fab for the fruit or breakfast for us though. They're too smooth for H, he likes chunkier, 'drier' textures.

fraktious · 04/10/2011 06:42

arch you definitely need to get that heating fixed! I can't imagine a winter without heating and I'm a southern pansy.

MrsW welcome to the club. We cope by co-sleeping although I'm considering night weaning a bit....

kitty is he blowing proper raspberries or is his tongue thrust reflex getting in the way? We tried M on a bit of carrot at the weekend (sticks, can't be fagged with puree) and he was getting it to his mouth but not quite sure what to do, so we're leaving it a bit. There's no huge rush to wean.

cycle yay for baby yoga! That sounds like great fun Smile

Ali I hope DS1 gets back on teach soon. IME potty regressions quote often so regress with him. Take him to the toilet every hour or so as you would at the beginning. If he's doing it to get attention then (easier said than done) ignore it if it's just wet for a little bit. He'll soon discover that lack of attention + cold, wet, uncomfy bottoms makes it a less attractive prospect. You may need to cover stuff in plastic sheeting/only do that outside though!

OP posts:
kittycatcat · 04/10/2011 07:38

I did wonder that frak. I'm back at work next month and keen for it to be me that weans him so I'll give it another go and if it doesn't work I'll try again next week.

fraktious · 04/10/2011 10:23

Nursery/a CM won't do anything in terms if giving him food that you don't want them to and if they did they would be serious misconduct on their part. If you tell them you're doing BLW they'll leave him to it with whatever they can and you can continue in purees at home at your own pace. Going back to work doesn't mean you can't wean him, it's such a gradual process anyhow.
