Hello! No bumps today so far, but the innocent looking viral rash has blistered so we are off to the emergency docs again in half an hour. We had a retry awful night here with the heat. Ended up taking b on with me where he promptly starfished and took up the top of the bed leaving me to sleep the wrong way across at the bottom because there wad no way I was moving himonce he was sleeping. I'm not an idiot.

I've just gone mad and "friended" (iPod wanted to change that to growlers!!!) you all on fb. Feel free to ignore!

I'm heading into town after the docs, unless b has a contagious lurgy. To bravissimo to get new bras. I'm down to one semi decent fitting one mow I've stopped bfing. The phrase spaniels lugs is quite apt at the moment.

Dh is up on the train today thank god. I might get more than 3 hours sleep tonight!

GsyGacheFiend · 30/09/2011 11:07

p slept 8.30-7 Shock Smile
DS looks like he is getting chicken pox. It's my last week off work next week, we finally get some decent weather and are probably going to be house-bound Sad

fraktious · 30/09/2011 11:32

I'm hoping aggressive air con will improve M's sleep but it makes very thirsty so he probably will still need feeding. Huuuge poo this morning as I was about to leave. DH had to get up to deal - he wasn't impressed.

I'm heartened by stories of good sleep though. We will get there!

Fizz hope everything is okay

Sorry for not namechecking much- app and rubbish memory.

GlaikitFizzog · 30/09/2011 12:40

B has hand foot and mouth Shock. I just about started crying at the docs because I thought it was really bad, well it is if you are a cow! But nothing we can do just calpol as it's viral! At least we know what it is now!

architien · 30/09/2011 13:23

! Fizz Oh are you ok? Grab a cup of tea and a break. Sounds like horrid surprise news especially as it sounds similar to foot & mouth even though it isn't the same (www.nhs.uk/conditions/Hand-foot-and-mouth-disease/Pages/Introduction.aspx). On the plus side at least B is getting it whilst he's young and it wont give him as much hassle. I can't remember if you have started weaning yet but mango is stellar at helping the body get rid of viruses.
Thanks for all advice about bras. DH forgot his season ticket twice this week so when I checked the bank account it seems the "bra allocation fund" is now depleted. Great. I'll need to wait until next month and speak to DH tonight.
I have made huge steps forward though with the garden. The garden is quite big and so far today I've managed to mow half of it (the grass is out toddler thigh height) which is no mean feat :)

Cyclebump · 30/09/2011 13:33

Oh no Fizz! Although I will say that when I worked on a medical magazine we covered that as a common childhood disease. It is very common and generally clears up completely fairly quickly.

Starshaped · 30/09/2011 14:03

Oh no Fizz - poor B. How long did they say it's likely to take to clear up?

After a poor start, our night wasn't too bad in the end. DH resettled her without a feed at 9ish, and she woke and fed at 10 and 1.30. I was expecting to be up every couple of hours after that but she ended up sleeping until 7 Shock. I'm not complaining about that!

Dairy Just to give you some hope - DH has also served his time as a Post Doc but ended up getting a lectureship after a couple of years. It might have been a case of getting the right papers published/being in the right place at the right time (the lectureship came up at the uni where he was already working) but it can be done!

GlaikitFizzog · 30/09/2011 15:16

Doc said about a week but that he was only contagious before the blisters appearedConfused. He probably picked it up at the pool. Dirty filthy place Wink. I'm fine though. As soon as he saw my face he went into "it's ok" mode!! So I didntreally panic!

B decided to sleep when we got back after a dose of magic pink and still is giving it big Zs I've even managed a 2 hour nap. No bra shopping for me I think!!

Ooh I hear chatter! Maybe the shopping is back on!

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 30/09/2011 19:33

Poor B, I hope he's ok with it.

Ike hasn't really been on top form today, he has wanted to be held all of the time - not so great when it's 28 degrees!

Apart from lugging I about, I'm enjoying the heat. I think because it still cools down at night it's much more enjoyable.

How's ds Gache? Is it the pox? I had so many false alarms with ds and the pox, and he still hasn't had it. No doubt both boys will get it one after another in the spring, that's something to look forward to, not.

It's Strictly tonight. Hurrah!

GsyGacheFiend · 30/09/2011 20:10

fizz Hope B gets well soon, it must be the week for spots.

Thanks for the reminder ILTMI, I'd forgotton about strictly tonight.

I think it is the pox, the spots are quite small and are currently on his back and the top of his bottom apart from 3 larger ones around the groin. I found some photos online to compare them to, and the early stage ones are spot on (if you'll pardon the pun). DH was phoned at work to visit the chemist in his lunch hour to stock up on creams and Piriton (which luckily DS seems to like the taste of). Now I have the 2 week wait to see if P gets it too.

I did take DS out today Blush, but we went to one of the less popular beaches where the tide was so low you'd have to trek over several 100 metres of rocks to get to the sea. We went rock pooling and we didn't see any other children nearby. We did meet up with several friends yesterday before the spots appeared but luckily they've all had it before.

P is asleep in her moses basket but i've moved it into the cot bed in her room tonight. She's only had one half hour nap since 7am this morning (not for my lack of trying) so I'm hoping she'll go the night.

DairyBeetle · 30/09/2011 21:00

Yay Strictly! I've got my Wine at the ready!

Fizz I hope B recovers quickly!

Gsy Boo for the pox Sad. Though I strangely have good memories of having chicken pox. I was about 7 and it was just at the start of the school holidays, I had it and DSisters got it so my mum just let us run around out side in the garden (it was summer!) with little/no clothes and a lot of calomine lotion Grin

Star thanks for giving me hope!

We took S to his first swimming class today and he loved it. I'm gutted that I'm not going to go each week with him (DH will be taking him while I'm at work) as we had so much fun. S was fairly quiet to begin with, he likes to have a good look and assess everything, then seemed to decide that it was just a giant bath! He was the loudest baby there, shrieking with laughter all the way through Smile

NCT Nearly New Sale tomorrow, I've got my elbows at the ready for getting through the crowds! (And my MIL who is an amazing sale shopper - my secret weapon!)

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 30/09/2011 22:02

I am just accepting all friend requests on FB without really looking - assuming that it is you guys and not some weirdos from my past tracking me down Grin

GGF - I thought that once the spots came out you were ok to go out to the beach etc? I had chickenpox when I was staying with my grandparents over the summer, and we went to the beach every day as I recall.

Fizz - I'm glad your Dr was reassuring, B will be fine in a few days I'm sure.

It is so flipping hot here. On the weather forecast, our bit is the darkest orange. T doesn't like it, just wants to be carried about - which just makes him and either me or DH hotter!! He is finally asleep. He had one decent nap today in his buggy in the garden, but he woke from that at 3pm and has only been asleep again for half an hour.

MrsWajs · 30/09/2011 22:59

Oh no Fizz poor B! I was going to suggest HF&M yesterday as a few of the babies on my other ante-natal thread have had it recently and it sounded similar but didn't want to be scaremongering incase it wasn't!! I don't think it's quite as bad as it sounds though, just very contagious!

GGF Hope the chicken pox clear up quickly for your DS and that P doesn't get them too.

Well the house viewing was a semi success, the original house we were going to look at is just too much work for us to take on. The whole house needs new windows, re-wiring, A LOT of damp treatment, roof needs repaired, central heating to be installed etc etc the list goes on, it would not be habitable for a loooong time and not suitable to be slumming in while we do the work with R & DSS to consider, so I think it's a no go. There is however a similar house 3 doors down, which still needs a fair bit of work but seems much more manageable so am hoping we might maybe consider buying that one once our house is sold! :) I've posted a link to it on fb too, there are less of the original features remaining than in the other house but I think I could cope with that!

kittycatcat · 01/10/2011 04:32

Oh no fizz hope ur both ok.

dairy enjoy the sale. Love a bargain. Anita was my fave on strictly Smile

For those of you on my fb apologies as you have heard this rant already. I took S shopping today. Most people couldn't get enough of him. In debenhams they refused to give me my purchases so I would stay And they could coo Grin. Shortly after that s did a huge poo resulting in a full change for him and me walking round with poo on my dress! By the Hume we got to the post office he was tired and crying. As I was at the counter an interfering biddy came up and declared him to be hot and told me he should be in shorts, to which I replied... He was but he crapped in them. I then stormed out leaving her there going oh did he. Why do people think that's acceptable? Fumes.

fraktious · 01/10/2011 08:47

Sending hugs and healing thoughts to the afflicted households.

GGF we might be moving to near you! DH is talking about possibilities for our next posting at the moment.

I've gone FB friending mad as well, I won't be offended if you reject me Grin

We really need to do something about M's sleep but I'm a bit reluctant in case it's the aircon making him thirsty or he's reverse cycling.

Have fun at the sale dairy!

kitty I saw that. Top response! She deserved it...

OP posts:
GsyGacheFiend · 02/10/2011 01:34

Thanks for all the get well wishes for DS and his chicken pox. It's contagious until all the spots have crusted over which is usually about 5 days. The spots can remain for several weeks afterwards so that would probably explain your chicken pox beach trips Ali.

P had a marathon sleep of 7pm-8am last night and has been down since half 7 this evening.
I've been out with DH and some friends for a meal and several glasses of Wine tonight. Mum babysat. She was reading DS his stories when we left at 7.45 and apparently half way through the 2nd story a couple of minutes after we left he said "nanny I'm going to sleep now" turned over and went straight to sleep. She's not had a peep out of either of them all night. Shock

kitty Well done you Wink
frak Keep us posted on the posting Grin

Blimey is that the time, I'm not used to this going out malarkey anymore. I'd better get upstairs, wash the slap off and get to bed.
DH is currently watching Dr Who on the Sky+, it's the last one of the series so it can't wait until tomorrow night apparently Hmm

Cyclebump · 02/10/2011 09:12

Might be going out this week... Shocking.

Boo for chicken pox, hurray for telling off old biddies who think they know better, and I'll join the moan over the weather messing up naps etc.

Will post properly at some point but nothing exciting to report...

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 02/10/2011 09:59

No I developed the spots while I was there! I think my grandparents just didn't think to stay at home. Plus I wasn't actually poorly with it, and had relatively few spots so it wasn't mega obvious.

Crap night here, too hot. T didn't settle until 10pm, woke twice and then DS1 appeared around 6.30. I've been awake since just after 5 so I'm now back in bed and DH is in charge.

architien · 02/10/2011 17:32

Rubbish day, inflamed a joint in lumber trying to mow the lawn, and this morning I'm greeted with the heating and hot water system broken (it's ancient back boiler thing) then the fridge freezer was defrosted and making a waterfall sort of sound. I've worked out a piece of card had fallen down the back and lodged itself between the pipes. I switched it off, pulled the card out and gave the pipes a bit of a hoover and the whole thing seems to be working again. The heating is more complicated and after speaking to a plumber (after faffing with pilot light etc) it seems like it's an prohibitively expensive fix. It's looking like I'm facing winter with no central heating and only a kettle and electric shower as a means to hot water with two very young ones in Fife, Scotland. wishing that there was a tardis lift to just about anywhere warm

BuckminsterFullerene · 02/10/2011 19:28

Arch, that sounds like a nightmare.

I've heard stories that people in your position have joined that British Gas boiler protection thingy, 'discovered' their problem and had BG fix it. Only to realise a little way down the line they can't afford the monthly payment and cancel it. From what I've heard, there's no obligation to continue membership or anything. But, as I say, all hearsay.

The awful nights have continued here. I'm barely functioning at school now. But had a lovely weekend with F, who had 3 meals with me today! (well, he played with it while I ate. Not sure anything's going in yet).

On a positive note, his cough is improving, and it seems his reflux is too. We've slacked off on the gaviscon, he only seems to need a bit first & last thing. And he has 4 teeth now, at 27 weeks.

JKSLtd · 02/10/2011 20:56

Buck - sounding positive re baby, less so re sleep & work combo.

arch - absolute nightmare. our boiler decided to go bonkers last winter - during the snow. ended up replacing 3 separate parts. hope you can sort something.

everyone else - sorry brain could only retain 2 people's name + info.
grr for mad old biddy commenting.
hope all are sleeping better - weather meant to cool from Tues i heard.

Went to PIL for last night, shared a room with DD, she was so weird, woke up almost every hour chatting to herself, didn't need feeding so i didn't have to get up but obv was awake each time too.
She is mostly sitting by herself - at that stage where you sit behind them but they get on with playing with stuff on their own which i love.

um, can't think of anything else, hoping to get to bed early before a busy week.

kittycatcat · 02/10/2011 21:13

Oh arch that's pants

I have 2 questions bit can only remember 1! What do I need for S for swimming? He's 21 weeks on Wednesday.

I think the other one is baby rice related. I'll have to do it about 5pm. Do I do it before milk? Just once a day?

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 02/10/2011 21:27

arch that sounds horrendous. Can you borrow any money to get it fixed?

Buck - I have heard that too about the BG scheme, but the issue here might be the age of arch's system. BG refused to cover the boiler in our previous house because it was too old and didn't meet current installation guidelines.
Sounds like you are having a tough time with F - good that his reflux etc is improving, but let's hope that the sleep follows along soon.

T is crawling, and has worked out how to sit himself up from being up on his hands and knees. It is disturbing him horribly, he wakes himself up trying to sit up in bed and is just generally massively frustrated because he can't get where he wants to go fast enough.
DS1 has regressed with potty training, he's wet himself all over the place today and I totally lost it with him :( Once he did it on purpose though because I wouldn't let him put the TV on - aaarrggghhh. No idea how to handle it really, any ideas very gratefully received.

chillikat · 02/10/2011 22:32

We've put M in her own room in the cot bed tonight. It's nice being able to have the light on in our room and not creep around but I miss her :( obviously I don't think she'll last the night without at least one wake up - will she re-settle in her room, I wonder?
