Hello occers Have you tried putting salt in your bath water and having sitz baths - the ones where you don't relax but sit in water up to your hips with you legs (ahem) akimbo. Also had infected stitches, midwife commented on foul smell (proud). I had been putting lavender and tea tree oil in the water but that didn't work but the salt really helped. The MW also recommended putting dettol in the bath water but as the anti biotics gave me thrush I steered clear! If it cheers you up it was only a few weeks but now feels like a lifetime ago and old myfanwy is much better now.

Happy Birthday Fanny Smile

Hello again ElfBotherer

rocket does it have an automatic wake up function for the 3am feeds when you nod off and dribble on your pride and joy?

MadameBoo · 15/09/2011 14:52

Hypercal is very good too occy - I swear it saved me from infection along with the sea salt and lavender.

Lighttaperstandback · 15/09/2011 15:56

Happy birthday Fanny! 'ere, have a snog from me while nobody's looking.

Long may the age denials continue. Am 21 meself, didncha know? Actually, not sure I'd want to go back to 21. I'd settle for 26...that wasn't a bad year, from what I can remember of it...

rollerbaby · 15/09/2011 16:42

Box what haz happened? This has either return to work date or sodding builders written all over it.

rollerbaby · 15/09/2011 16:46

Hello mountie I can't remember when you were last knocking around... so do tell us the story.

Occers despite all the bathing advice I somehow found it more or less impossible to find time or energy to do this daily but I used to stick a shower head of warm water round my bits every time I went to the loo to clean it out.If you've got one over a bath you can just sit on the side and sort of improvise a bidet IYSWIM.

Cosmosis · 15/09/2011 16:51

I think I?ve reached that point where I have so much to do I can?t work out what to do first so have come to a halt.

AlpinePony · 15/09/2011 16:58

cossie I think you need a mighty weekend plan so that you don't end up moping and/or feeling the rage. Bike & cakes?

Backinthebox · 15/09/2011 18:03

Moo I rang my support manager - she is on holiday again. So I got the new girl in the office and she told me the reason I haven't been put on the program for training is that I haven't had my medical yet. I thought as long as I had my medical and passed it before my expected return date it would all be OK. No one told me I was expected to pass my medical before they would sort out my training. I have my medical booked for the 27th, and when I spoke to my doctor today he said 'of course you are going to pass your medical, tell them to roster your training the silly feckers.' Or words to that effect. If they don't start planning my training till the end of Sept, I will have missed the Nov deadline dates too and won't be rostered till Dec. Which will mean me missing not only Christmas, but my ski hol with Cluck in Feb. Bum.

Backinthebox · 15/09/2011 18:04

PS Alps - twit!

Ocarina · 15/09/2011 18:30

Mountie hello you queue jumper you! I'm not really the one to welcome you here, but tis good to see another newbie.

And happy birthday Fanny.

Thanks for the soaking advice. I'll try it if I manage to grab time for a bath! I now have antibiotics and a promise of follow up from the midwives to check it's all healing OK. Other than that we saw the midwife for the last time this morning, but she didn't have her scales so Peedie didn't get weighed. I'm not worried about her weight, but it'd've been nice to know....

We had a trip to the bf clinic at the hospital yesterday, mainly for reassurance on my part, and got some advice on latching which hopefully will help save my nipples (starting to be sore in the last couple of days) and stop her swallowing loads of air and getting wind (which TH is convinced is the reason for her not settling at night). The hormones hit too, so combined with a screaming child I couldn't settle at all I spent various bits of yesterday in floods of tears. TH didn't help when he basically said her not settling my fault (because of bad latching causing wind) - really helpful..... The boy needs to learn to engage brain before opening mouth, and stopping whining about lack of sleep would be nice too (when he got up 3 hours after the two of us did this morning).

We managed to get out for a walk in the pram earlier (in a brief lull between stormy weather), so maybe there is hope of a life outside these four walls.

CurlyCasper · 15/09/2011 18:38

occs I would have warned you about father exhaustion had he not been in the room. Unfortunately they all do it. Hope all improves.

squeaks has come down with conjunctivitis. Any tips will be gratefully recieved because even if the doc does call back tonight, we won't get anything he prescribes until tomorrow. poor mite is miserable and looks like she's been in a fight, both eyes affected.

HoppedOnAFairy · 15/09/2011 19:14

Hey Occs, wish I hadn't queue jumped! My lil' one would not settle last night either - CH blames it on me eating cabbage - and thus giving him indigestion. Could be true. I am also not getting out much, but it would probably help enormously.

Me story, ey? Well, it ain't that exciting. Was a regular on the BESH fred, got a full on job which was consuming all my time, and became a bit more irregular. Due to the said job put baby making to the back of my head, but firmly heading down the FC route, and hey presto, fallen diffed in the middle of the biggest work stress, month before FC. Boring story really.

Anyhoo, won meself a little boy, 2.5 weeks ago. Having all the usual newborn ishoos - but I am sure will reveal all in de course.

For the time being, I am worried I am not paying enough attention to the littlie's 'spiritual' development. Just bought some music to entertain him. What else do people do? Is he too young for activity naps? Anyhoo, better get back to him... will write more later!

HoppedOnAFairy · 15/09/2011 19:16

Activity MATS. Though I am sure I could flog a concept of an activity nap to someone...

laurielou · 15/09/2011 20:21

Happy Birthday Fanny

Welcome back Mountie & big congrats on your blue flava.

I would write more but am frankly too horrified at the thought of a 4 month sleep cock-up. Pliz tell me this isn't so? We've had a good few weeks now of going to sleep 7pm, I wake BugBoy for a feed about 10.30 & he goes back to sleep until 7am. Am loving it! We let him sleep through the 10.30 pm feed a few times, but he just woke at 3am. Sod that.

Mountie Like you I didn't really know what I should be doing with the little fella to keep him amused. He seemed to like the activity mat sooner than I thought he would. Mr Loz heard today about a baby sensory room - but forgot to ask where it was

Ocarina · 15/09/2011 20:30

I like the idea of an activity nap! As for activity mats, Peedie is just now down on hers for the first time (a present from grandparents). She seems to like lying on the bit that makes crinkly noises when you move but the things that hang down are making no impact. And it's stolen the floor space for me to lie down and do my trying to put my stomach muscles back together exercises, but never mind. She's being subjected to whatever music's playing around the place, and to my singing which worryingly she seems to like.

Clearly I'm no expert on the subject, but I'd've thought the most important thing when they're tiny is interacting with them. The poor girl gets me talking nonsense to her most of the time, but she seems to cope (and it could be worse, TH could be talking politics to her....)

Muser · 15/09/2011 20:37

Luffly to see you. Congrats on the wee fella. At 2.5 weeks I don't think a baby needs much more than cuddles, milk and sleep. Mine wasn't bothered by the activity mat for ages. Or any toys really. Black and white images are meant to be good - they can see those. Or just give him another cuddle. And another one. Because he is very small and snuggly and made to be cuddled. Maybe a bit of singing while being cuddled.

Casp boiled salty water for conjunctivitis I think. Wipe over once. Discard cotton wool. Use new bit to wipe again. Etc.

CluckyKate · 15/09/2011 21:05

Camomile tea Curls - apply as per Muser's directions above.

Great to see some new faces in here. Birthing stories if you please Smile

Mix the tea tree oil & lavender oil with a splosh of milk before adding to the bath to help it disperse properly Occers and a couple of baths a day will soon have you fixed. Anti-bs will help too but watch out for thrush.

Agree on the cuddling strategy for newborns - they teeny-tiny for such a short time it's worth making the most of it.

MrBitey · 16/09/2011 08:55

Good Morning all, feeling very chipper this morning as I took delivery of my mai tei sling last night. Bitey bach is fast asleep in it and I have regained the use of my arms! It was only £12 brand new from an ebay shop and may be hooky but is well made and super comfy so we are both very happy Smile

mountie BB is 7 weeks today and still not that fussed on toys. He is big on singing, dancing and gazing at faces though. I am chatting non stop to him when he is awake poor little mite. At first I felt like a bit of a numpt but am finding it easier as he gets more interactive. I also realised that I didn't know any nursery rhymes so ended up getting them off you tube to sing along to. Apparently the repetition is good for neurological development. I say apparently as my sister read it in a magazine so not exactly expert advice either Wink

Sorry about the gammy eyes casp but no suggestions sorry.

CurlyCasper · 16/09/2011 09:12

Thanks for the suggestions. Doc has prescribed ointment, so I've sent SFF off to get that this morning. Poor monkey howls every time I go near her face Sad

mountie don't fret too much about activities. Cuddles and soaking up the atmosphere around them is usually plenty. Just enjoy any quiet moments you can get, because when they are older you have to work hard to keep them amused and out of trouble!

My girl did her first bit of toilet roll tube "trumpeting" today. She was walking around singing into one. So proud Grin

Birth stories please, newcomers!

Cosmosis · 16/09/2011 09:22

Always good to start a Friday with a second breakfast of a bacon roll!

I haves good news, he?s off for his mri this morning, and should be let out either tonight or tommoz [grin}

CurlyCasper · 16/09/2011 09:36

Great news cossie and Envy at the bacon roll.

SilverSky · 16/09/2011 09:37

costa I prefer your way to start the day. Mine involved baby vomming our the bed.

I went out for a curry with a couple of horsey pals. Fab to talk horses for hours. Also made me feel a bit sad about no longer competing, lessons etc. MB totally worth it though.

Advice! What have you done about radiators and your mini explorers? Im asking cos I'm going to put the heating on!! Frigging freezing!

Welcome recent sneezers! Gory Details plz.

AlpinePony · 16/09/2011 10:06

silv We're having a quick snap of 21 degrees and sunshine which is lovely and if I can move my lazy arse I will go for a hoss spin this afternoon or tomorrow - tomorrow more likely actually.

cossie Excellent news!

curly Off the top of my head: Bear, LG and Clyde all had the dreaded conjunctivitis lurgy and yes, they fight like buggery not to have the stuff squirted in their eyes. We kept the "wiping" to the bear minimum as it aggravated his sensitive skin so much he looked like the elephant man. Not pretty though and you just wish there was something you could do to make it better.

Yey for the return of the feymountaineer lovely to see you as ive been having intermittent frets on your behalf. Echoing the cuddles and singing for entertainment. Sprout also used to like little tours of the house with a running commentary every now and then.

Great news re your work mate cos hope the MRI is all clear and he gets home soon. More importantly that ge gets a good couple of weeks signed off work. Although I guess this wouldn't be too good for your stress levels!

Sorry about the gammy eyeness curls have no useful advice so hope the ointment does the trick.

Well I should never have asked the question about "getting away with it" we've had a couple of extra 2 am feeds this week which I can just about handle but last night she was wide awake every 2 hrs from 1 am. I guess i should count myself lucky that she goes straight back to sleep after a quick feed but it really is 5 minutes max so I don't think she's actually hungry. Uurgh. If anyone needs me I'll be snatching some kip on the massage table.
