Meds thinking of you and E. I hope the steroids do their stuff, x

CurlyCasper · 25/08/2011 15:45

I agree with cossie, medee, only give extra if she seems desperate for it. I never noticed my appetitie increasing with steriods, but did put on some weight and did have rounding of my face etc. I don't think anyone really knows how much to feed their baby when it comes to actual food. Squeaks eats everything she is offered at nursery, but rarely finishes a meal at home these days. But for all I know I am offering her more than they are. It's not like anyone goes massively overweight overnight, and you are great parents, so you'll be able to see how she is doing and react accordingly.

Awwwwwwwww to the artie cuddles Grin

Cosmosis · 25/08/2011 15:50

MIL has a tiny appetite, she lives on her own and seems to mainly eat banana sandwiches.

Babies food / milk intake swings so wildly from day to day. Imo as long as you are baby lead (to coin a phrase Wink ) ie offer when they seem hungry and stop when they refuse, which I am sure is what all of us on here do regardless of bf/ff or blw/puree it will be fine.

rollerbaby · 25/08/2011 15:50

Medee I hope the steroids do their stuff. I'm sorry, it must be exhausting for you at the moment. I think the little lady will let you know if she's hungry so I wouldn't worry too much yet. Your supply will naturally increase anyway.

Do you know what, I just went to have a look at mooncups on amazon and then realised I am pregnant. Blush I might well have a go next year whenever Droid The Revenge returns. cossie I'm not a major fan of tampons either to be honest, mainly because I had a rare nerve issue down there for years which amazingly has resolved itself post birth. Very possibly because of my third degree tears. This was a major bonus for me - who knew that there could be a silver lining to such things? I used to actually find it quite painful at times. The scar tissue is still quite sensitive there so we'll just have to see how I go with number 2 and if any further wreckage.

Good luck with back teeth Curly and cossie that does not sound fun. Babymoo went right off food for the top 2. So much so that one day he literally only had milk.

Cosmosis · 25/08/2011 15:50

curls artie is the same, we nearly always get ?ate all? on his day sheet from the CM, but he doesn?t eat much at home. Of course he might just prefer her cooking??..

CurlyCasper · 25/08/2011 16:04

moo squeaks is getting the top front two at the mo. Bloody awful - so much worse than two of the molars.

I have a mooncup TMI question. When using tampons, they always seem to dislodge if I go for a poo. I don't remember this being a problem when I was younger, but these days I have had to stop using them for the most part. Is this a problem with mooncups? I'm happy to try anything, having previously been a "sea pearls" fan.

Cosmosis · 25/08/2011 16:17

Sometimes yes it does. But for me not an issue as (more tmi) I nearly always poo first thing in the morning so just doing while I?m emptying out mooncup after the night. Just free bleed curls it?s the way forward.

rollerbaby · 25/08/2011 16:50

curls bizarrely only the first of the top two seemed problematic. but boy I was glad when they finally came through. He was in bits with it - fever, screaming, god it was awful. My doctor said give them cold celery to chew. But baby moo was like WTF?!!!!

rocketleaf · 25/08/2011 16:53

Aww at the the cuddly Artie and Squeaks! Too cute!

The thing I've found with the mooncup is that even though you have to be comfortable with rummaging round up there, period blood is no way near as disgusting when its fresh and collected in the cup as when its absorbed in a tampon or pad. (TMI?) I'm the same as you cossie emptied morning and night except for day 1 which was more often. Also it was an absolute bloody (ha scuse the pun) godsend when travelling as I didn't have to worry about where I was going to be able to buy tampons from not to mention dispose of them in the sometimes pretty dodgy loos we had access to.

meds it sounds like there is already a good plan in place for treatment, just will be keeping my fingers crossed that the steroids do the trick. And as you say, I am sure, having caring and supportive parents will help her over come any difficulties. More hugs from me.

Oddly enough, on the feeding in a sling front, it would seem necessity is the mother of invention as I had to figure it out on the fly (and without the help of youtube Shock eek!) when Sprout decided she wanted feeding half way round Martin Mere this avo. I doubt very much it was text book but i just managed to jig her round to lying on her side and popped my boob in her mouth. Must have done the trick as she went to sleep in that position straight afterwards and we finished our walk :o In fact she seemed much more comfy like that than froggied up against my chest although it didn't feel quite as secure.

Cosmosis · 25/08/2011 16:59

I agree that it doesn?t seem as grim in the mooncup as on a pad or tampon rocket, and I can totally see the advantages for travelling. For me it also has advantages for cycling as you have to be very careful with tampon string placement and bike seats or you end up very sore indeed. That may also apply to horseriding, alps?

AlpinePony · 25/08/2011 17:03

Yes it can. :( I went 'bush' in the rockies some years back, the mooncup was a lifesaver although needed a really good tea tree oil soaking back in civilisation.

okiecokie · 25/08/2011 20:25

That is it, you lot have convinced me to give mooncup a go (when droid returns). However, how does it fit in with my routine/control freak nature? Maybe I can just take it out and clean it exactly at the same time every day..

rollerbaby · 25/08/2011 20:42

I can't believe the mooncup USP completely passed me by. They seriously need to employ some proper PR and marketing folk.

CurlyCasper · 25/08/2011 20:58

that could be me and thee honey! On that subject, I appear to have applied for a job. Double my current salary and I don't know who for, or exact location. But the role is pretty much what I do now on a bigger scale. Of course if I do get it (slim chance) I'll have to go FT again.

rocketleaf · 25/08/2011 21:08

The only time I have ever seen the mooncup advertised is on the back of a toilet door at glasto. So yes I think you might be right moo Wink

CluckyKate · 25/08/2011 22:08

Am also nearly convinced on the mooncup thing. Just one question - how does it not leak at night???...or am I being a bit dim Confused

Wow on the job front Curls - I would love to double my salary Grin. Got my fingers crossed for you.

Backinthebox · 25/08/2011 23:21

Was easy to double my salary Cluck - as easy as falling off a horse log!

Aside from the pain, aggro, metalwork which is going to have me setting off security alarms for the rest of my life, etc, I am beginning to warm a bit to this broken leg malarkey. I am on full time pay, and today noticed that not only does 2 months on crutches mean I have a flatter stomach, but my bingo wings are nearly gone too! What's not to like? (Apart from the pain, aggro, etc.... Hmm )

LG is learning to talk. He crawls around muttering 'Oh dear! Oh dear!' Every so often he crawls around going 'Oh dear Babychick, oh dear!' (Babychick's name in RL is exactly the kind of name you would imagine someone to be saying oh dear too.) Tis very amusing and alarming.

Med nothing else to say, but I've got my fingers crossed for you that your little girl is a strong'un.

Backinthebox · 25/08/2011 23:25

PS I must be feeling better. I threw myself with wild abandon out of my car today, only remembering I was supposed to use crutches as I plopped to the ground. My leg didn't buckle though.

PPS I don't know if I'm supposed to say something like 'get yer Mooncup out Cluck - we're off camping again!' I personally find mine very handy for those really annoying searches we get at work - flop one of those out of your bag at staff search and they can't get your stuff back in your bag fast enough and you on your way. As mentioned above - I have a feeling I will be getting a few more searches from now on!

Cosmosis · 26/08/2011 08:53

Cluck, why would it leak more at night than in the day? You put it in so it forms a seal so nothing should be able to get out round the edges. Which reminds me, first timers, you definitely need to break the seal with a finger before removing or you will feel like you are trying to pull your wimbledon out of your foof.

I think I saw an advert for a mooncup on a toilet door somewhere once but can?t remember where. Not at a festival though as never been to one.

box, loving the oh dear oh dear Grin

AlpinePony · 26/08/2011 09:13

Oh and cut the stalk off. I think I read about them in some magazine years ago and asked a lentil-weaving friend who'd been using them for "years" it turned out. Like rocket, I need to empty every 6 hours during the first "day shift" because of my flow but after that it can be nicely left - and I think it would appeal to your controlling side okie because it can be planned - e.g., morning shower + bedtime readiness. If you want to empty it during the day they say you can wipe it down with some loo roll, but if I'm out and about I'd rather find a loo with a wash-basin in the cubicle and give it a rince. Fresh blood definitely nicer than oxidised! In further lentil-weavemanship, you can pour the contents in to your plant pots, apparently it's excellent plant food. [Boggle]

cossie/curly I suddenly have a cuddler too. He's always appeared to be very independent and would wriggle right off my lap to go and "do something better". But now he comes running over arms in the air wanting picked up and cuddled - for ooooh, around 45 seconds before he wriggles off and runs away again.

ESHperts - how many times should I let him fall head first off the couch? He can dismount backwards beautifully but still doesn't seem to have grasped the concept that it's the only safe way. Confused Sometimes he throws the cushions on to the floor so I don't mind if he dismounts face first - but this morning just threw himself on to the floor and had a little greet.

Cosmosis · 26/08/2011 09:16

Artie currently cries if he sits down on his bum from standing, but doesn?t seem to be bothered about bashing the side of his head on whatever is to hand, so I?m buggered if I know ski

FannyPriceless · 26/08/2011 09:23

There was a full page colour ad for the mooncup in the Guardian weekend magazine last week! The illustration was sand dunes with a wispy bushy thing, which at first glance looked like naked lady nether regions complete with garden.Grin

But yes, I guess I am going to have to give it a go. So in about 4-5 weeks time I'll be asking for some rather TMI advice from you experts.

Clyde is into full on pashing at the moment.Grin He grabs my face with both hands opens his mouth and lunges at me with expert slobbering. He does it over and over, grinning like a loon. Sometimes he opens my mouth with his hand to ensure he gets the full wet pash experience.

Lovely as it is, I am hopeful he'll grow out of this behaviour at some point in the next 18 years.

rocketleaf · 26/08/2011 09:39

If i needed to change out and about, I always used the disabled loo. I have an even better excuse now I have a pram in tow.
And contrary to what alps said I have a warning about cutting the stalk off too short, you might end up lying on your back in the bathroom while your OH has to remove the thing. It's quite amazing I ever managed to have sex again after that little episode.

Loving the 'oh dear' and the pashing. Too cute!

We are off to the GP in a bit. 10 days since the last poo and even though she is absolutely fine in herself, we don't want to leave it over the long weekend in case she does start to show signed of pain or discomfort. Longest she has been before has been 8 days. There has been lots of farting so I think its on its way anyway.

CurlyCasper · 26/08/2011 09:45

she'll do it for the doctor rocket Grin

Loving the pashing and the oh dears! This morning we had very loud shouting of the dog's name. Squeaks just adores her.

alps I just made a point of turning Squeaks around (to legs first position) every time she tried to scoot off the bed or sofa, and she's got it. Only head first falls lately have been from standing on seats

She's properly off now. Was walking around the house yesterday with my Kindle in one hand and the dog's rawhide bone in the other (so SFF tells me). Then she was shoving the bone in the dog's face, saying "Doggy*, ta!". Our teaching of manners has gone awry and she seems to think ta means "take it". Hmm

*insert dog's actual name.

rocketleaf · 26/08/2011 09:51

Go Squeaks! (poor "doggy") Yes thats our plan curls as thats exactly what happened when we took her to hospital after the last 8 day gap. Failing that then we will take her swimming, thats bound to entice a poo out.
