hello all
just been lurking over at weaning for a while, finger foods and normal family food is what i want to know about.
are any of you giving finger foods and if so which?
and maybe second timers when do they move on to family food
maybe getting ahead of myself, dd now just mostly spits all out except for breakfast...

also do any of yours constantly babble? dd in experimenting with lots of sounds but her default setting is just ah ah ah in a sing song up and down

my favourite thing is that she is clearly stretching and reaching out her hands to be picked up, so very cute

hope you all well, must find a christmas tree somewhere but not sure where to put it

teabelly · 05/12/2005 21:46

Just checking in between bushtucker trials

Katz - that sounds horrid - and so (probably repeating others here) do you have any ideas what triggered it? New food? Central heating? no known cause! Hope she's not in any pain with it poor little mite. Blimey dd had a slight red patch on her head and I panicked - then I discovered it was where ds had trod on her accidentally whilst modelling his new wellies to daddy so I panicked more! All ok now but I did keep checking all night for any swelling or bleeding!

troublesawmummykissingsanta · 05/12/2005 21:46

Where have you all gone? Clearly you were all missing me as i was at work, so you decided not to post. My nasty work restricts the internet so i can only go on things that can 'assist me in my work'

Anyway, really missed ds, it was as bad and worse than i thought it would be. Only say ds for an hour this evening in which he cried for 59 minutes of it. He usually has approx 4 hours sleep during the day, but only have just over 2 today so understandably he was knackered. Not anyones fault though. He wakes up at about 6. Talks to himself for about an hour when i get him up and feed him. Then he goes straight back to bed for about an hour. Couldn't do that today though. And he normally have about 45 minutes between 5pm and 5.45pm but couldn't do that either as didn't get back til 5.30pm, and then it was too late. So we have to put him to bed half an hour early.

Now i'm depressed. I've missed him like mad, and when i finally saw him, i just got really stressed out from all the crying! Arrrrggggggghhhhhh!!

I'm ok really. Honest!

Oh and thanks for thinking of me. I'm full time for 2 weeks then 2 weeks holiday, and then from Jan i'm going back just 3 days a week. And after one day i take my hat off to any mum who works full time. I just could not do it

Wow what a moany big post that was. I'll be off now that i've depressed everyone

katzglitterytree · 05/12/2005 21:55

we're not too worried, just want to get to the bottom of it. On a positive note the doc said she does mark easily so it could be that couples with so,mething minor

Just really miss her now,I wish i could even think about our last days days togeher, but it hurts so much when will the hurt stop i miss her so much.

im so sorry for sad post xxxxxxx

SKYLERtnightholynight · 06/12/2005 10:50

Hello
Giddy we miss you.
Trouble - Sorry you had a rough day yesterday. I guess like all these things it will take a bit of time for you and your lo to find the new routine . It will come though. Don't despair and remember you are part time after Christmas .
I went out for a fab party last night. We all took an anonymous gift and then were given a number. Then the presents were opened in order but if you didn't like the one you chose then you could swap it for someone elses. It was very funny. Things could only be swapped twice and then the third person got to keep it so some tactics were in play. We went round once and then pulled new numbers and went round again (obviously just swapping) after we had had some yumy food. I don't think I have explained that very well but it was funny as some things were really in demand.
DD2 is still waking up alot and so I think I wil be weaning soon. Having said that dd1 gave her dh's birthday card yesterday which she promtly chomped on and I think ate some of . So for all my care her first food has been cardboard . I have checked with the docs who have advised just keeping an eye on her.....
Tea - Hellooooo. I have completely failed to say well done on the new job front and a big grrr at your old boss for his behaviour.
Crap catch up as have to go supervise dd1 now.
Oh have also begun a vague sort of sleep training making a conscious effort to put dd2 down awake for her daytime naps so not feeding to sleep. This happened sometimes anyway so is OK so far.
Byeeeeeee

snowfallatxmasmum · 06/12/2005 10:52

morning all

eym- i know it does not help much but things do change with time. times such as these are painful but i always think the way we miss our dearest is a measure of how wonderful and important they are to us.
she made you the woman you are and you will pass all that goodness on and that is a great tribute.
take care and cry as much as you fell like
hugs

SKYLERtnightholynight · 06/12/2005 10:55

Oh EYM, so sorry x posted. Sorry you are feeling so sad. I guess Christmas is always going to be a tough time and having little William now makes for an even more emotional time. You are doing the right thing talking about it though and sharing your memories of your mum who was obviously a very special lady. I am a firm believer that she will be looking down on you all and so proud of her girls and their families. I hope that time will make things a little more bearable eventually. Take care.

SKYLERtnightholynight · 06/12/2005 10:56

Afternoon ladies!

We have broadband! Hurrah! Plus am back at work part-time so can always pass the time there catching up with the Junies

Right, will attempt a bit of a catch-up later, Tea, sorry to hear about your ex-job, that's just nasty.

PinkArjuna · 06/12/2005 18:25

xmas spirit hits the june thread!

SKYLERtnightholynight · 07/12/2005 05:15

Hello all,
Pink -
KVG - Yay for dd rolling. How exciting! I remember persuading dd1 to roll like that. Poor dd2 has just been left to get on with it, but then she has the stimulation (oh boy and it is that!) of an old sister and in fact is trying to do things sooner than dd1 did. Static babies are easier to look after though. I would love a sitter like Lummox's ds. I am making a conscious effort to help dd sit up as I think life is more interesting for her like that and she might start growing some hair back on the back of her head.
I think dd1 is developing asthma and excema , although not badly I have to say. It is very localised at the moment on her neck, armpits and back of her legs. I am going to re read Giddys post. Her asthma seems to be triggered by exercise when she has a cold/cough but the only way to diagnose is to use an inhaler and see if it helps accordng to my doc so that is what we are doing. Fingers crossed it won't develop.
Right breakfast is finished at the Skyler household so must dash. Bye for now!!!!

2manyglassesofmulledwine · 07/12/2005 09:00

Morning everbody. Is ruddy freezing here, ice in windows. Need central heating, brrrr!

EYM - v sad for you. Christmas really makes you think about the people who aren't here, played ds his first ABBA in tribute to you!

Troubles - hope work is a bit better. Nothing I can say except roll on the new year and you going PT.

KVG - thanks for medised info. Think it'd work on Mums too??!

Skyler - sorry about dd1, hope she's ok. Don't suppose the cold weather's helping either.

We got our Christmas tree yesterday (only went into town to pick up a fireguard!), dh came home to tree so huge that he couldn't get through door (I swear it was smaller in the shop...). ds thought the shiny baubles were fascinating. (Cats thought they were even more fascinating [sigh])
Going to try baby rice today for first time. ds 6mo on sat, but keeps whining like a labrador puppy whenever I'm eating!

snowfallatxmasmum · 07/12/2005 09:18

morning junies

hope you all well. took dd to HV yesterday just to check on her weight and a couple of weaning questions, HV is quite nice and relaxed i must say.dd now 17ibs2oz so thats ok she is not too chubby but is a long baby, long been out of 6m clothes, well any excuse really.

this rolling business is not something she has taken to enthusiaticaly, she will do it if she must but she is far keener on babbling non stop and eating her feet, amazingly at the same time

skyler hope your dd gets better. i dont think there is enough work done on allergies quite a lot of doctors dont investigate it properly and its really left to parent to do most of the'leg work'
speaking as aunt of two with ahstma.

troubles- i am sure it will get better, take it easy, on both of you really.

and very good day to everyone else too

MrsChristmasDay · 07/12/2005 14:46

Woo hoo, had a great night's sleep last night and I feel like a new person today. I've been reading but too tired/uninspired to post.

KVG, thanks for the link, it was really really funny! EYM, did the toy gun cap go off? Glad the Medised is working, is she feeling better now? DS2 is getting much better, the cough is nearly gone and he's generally all round happier (and so am I now).

Troublesmummy, sorry your first day at work was so tough. Has the week got any better?

Katz, can't believe your DD is crawling already! DS2 is definitely trying but rolling is the only way he can get around at the moment.

Sfxmum, I think I'll join you lurking on the weaning threads as I'm after inspiration too. I can't remember much about what I did for DS1, but I did start much earlier (16 weeks as that was the advice). DS2 hasn't shown much interest in the bits of puree I've given him so I'm tempted to try him with a stick of steamed carrot to see if he wants something to hold and chew on.

EYM, sorry you are feeling so sad at the moment. Christmas is a hard time isn't it? It's a time when we all think about family and the people aren't here as well as the ones that are. Sending you a big hug.x

Skyler, DS2 quite happily munched his way through a till receipt (one from the supermarket too, so it was a long one!) and DS1 has fed him ham and yoghurt too. These second children will grow up to be hardy types I'm sure

Tea, on that note I'm finding it impossible to stop DS1 from lying, kneeling, standing, rolling or otherwise squashing DS2. No welly footprints on his head yet but I'm sure it's only a matter of time...

2many, how did the baby rice go?

Trib, how's work going?

Skyler, will be keeping my fingers crossed that your DD doesn't have asthma. Or excema for that matter.

Phew, long catch-up by my usual standards...all because DS2 is having a proper good nap today (makes a change, usually he manages about 40 minutes). Hope you all have a good day, I'm off to go and do some on-line shopping for Christmas presents.

2manyglassesofmulledwine · 07/12/2005 15:31

Mrs CD - I was following that thread too, found John Craven v funny, but didn't get the Marti Caine/Elvis thing .
Had a good read of past weaning threads, and lots of people not recommending baby rice (mostly because it tastes bogging). Gave him carrot and parsnip puree instead. He ate it like he'd been eating solids all his life - I was actually disappointed he didn't look excited or anything; how sad am I?! Been a bit grizzly this pm though, wonder if tummy sore?
Hope you sleep well again tonight!
