New thread!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

DS started having a frustration tantrum at dinner time as he wanted something I couldn't guess. So he went to bed in a bad mood and refused his bottle. Let's hope that his evil twin will go back in its box my adorable toddler will sleep fine Grin

Nursery asked me if DS was speaking a lot of French at home as he is extremely chatty but they cannot understand most of the words he says. I had to explain that what he speaks is his own language and only a few words are English or French.

StoneBaby · 05/08/2011 19:52

BG just to show you that your DD2 is not alone at eaten weird unusual things

I wonder how stan, fc , Abs , chinook and rainbow are doing as we haven't heard from them for a while?

BabyGiraffes · 05/08/2011 20:09

Stone yes, I posted on there but realised my dds have been pretty tame in comparison...
I've had a better night so far with both girls in bed and asleep by 7.30 (British time). dd2 started getting hysterical when I put her into her travel cot but calmed down quickly. Poor little mite fell earlier trying to run while pushing a doll's buggy and scraped her knee. Not badly (but bleeding), but it was her bad knee which she'd bruised very badly last week when she had her fall. It looks VERY sore now and she cried every time she tried to walk. Sad If it causes her problems tomorrow I may have to have it checked (why do things always happen at weekends making access to doctors more difficult?)

SconesForTea · 05/08/2011 20:49

Hi everyone, well I've had two enormous decent-sized helpings of ice cream while catching up on the thread, thank you all for your company Grin God I am such a flipping stereotype, sitting here on the sofa feeding my massive belly ice cream Hmm

Sorry to hear of all the sleep problems Sad I will whisper it but we've had about a week of better nights since the really bad times, including a few sleep-throughs Far too early to get my hopes up, and in fact my own sleep is so rubbish right now it hasn't made too much difference to how I feel, but it is still so exciting every time we wake up in the morning and realise this is the first time we've heard her.

And LBH Wine for you - congratulations on the sleep training! Grin

BG Sad for DD2, she is under the wars.

PA I would be horrified at the fruitshoot! But yes you have to laugh. Hope that the jetlag goes soon and sleep settles down. Must be really tough.

IC I was wondering how your SWI was going... Re BF. I had a fairly uncomfortable conversation with a friend in which she repeatedly said she thought BF over 6m was wierd. When I related this to my mum and sister, they both said that they thought I was wierd to feed DD to 15m, and that it was very wierd that I'd wanted to feed until 2. I said tough luck I'll feed the next one for as long as I like and if that's 2 or even older then I just won't tell you about it [cross]

Mous hope you're not too upset about your Ps' comments re DD2. It is definitely partly a generational thing and also I'm sure they've just forgotten what having young children ls like day to day. Of course you have to partly modify your day to fit around mealtimes, naps etc. Or they'd end up in a total state.

BBB relieved to hear you have your water back. I can't imagine being without it.

My mum has been staying this week and she and I have been decorating DD's new bedroom, while DH looks after DD. It was fun but exhausting and we nearly got it finished. There is always a bit more to do!

Have a good weekend all.

BigBadBear · 05/08/2011 21:10

Just marking my spot from my parents. I had four hours sleep last night so am unable to think, let alone type, coherently.

BabyGiraffes · 05/08/2011 21:29

Scones you look absolutely fabulous! And it is quite allowed to have ice cream Grin
BBB sorry to hear you also have disrupted sleep. Sad

I wonder whether my dd2's problems are down to the travel cot which is quite long but fairly narrow. She objects to it strongly which is unlike her. Mind you, there is so much else going on in her little life (head injury, bashed up knee, still on alert for chicken pox, lots of travel, new surroundings, missing her papa, hot weather...)

StoneBaby · 05/08/2011 22:08

BG have you tried giving her some arnica tablets? They're great to reduce bruising and tgeir small size makes them easy to swallow (even if my DS still chews them).

BBB sending sleeping dust

scones you are allowed ice cream. At least you have a good reason so enjoy it for all of us dieting Grin

BabyGiraffes · 06/08/2011 09:10

stone good idea, will get some in town later
I am feeling a little stressed this morning and it's mainly my own fault for reading until the small hours... Plus the 'staying with parents' issues [waves at mous - know just what you mean about holding dd2 a lot to keep her from shouting]. My mum asked lots of rhetorical questions over breakfast 'why is dd2 always shouting' etc and I did my best to put on a placid face and not get angry. I have no idea why dd2 keeps shouting but having a bashed up knee and being wound up by her big sister may have something to do with it. She is also not 'always' shouting but has been a little unlucky on her visits here. In February she was teething in a big way, at Easter she arrived with a fierce temperature and then got d&v on top of that... I think she is a little angel for not complaining more!
Anyway... [deep breath] Going into town now and dd1 is looking forward for some serious ice cream Smile

Hands gin to BG and biscuits to PA

DS is in a eating frenzy today Hmm I need now to find him some trainers which are not too chav!

PenguinArmy · 06/08/2011 11:02

, they'll go with my tea quite nicely thanks

DD's shoes are too big, so we're back into old ones (the holes hasn't quite opened up yet) and I'll save them for when it's raining and she can have a slow adjustment. I thought she was just struggling with the clumpyness of them. She does have a habbit of having her heel leaning forwards from the ankle (if that makes sense?) so I can see how she appeared longer than she is.

StoneBaby · 06/08/2011 13:18

PA will a pair of small socks help? Which size is she? (sorry I can't remember).

DS is now in his cot for his nap, he's been fighting a bit, but I won Grin ! I now need to tidy the living room as it looks like a bomb site filled with toys and books...

InmaculadaConcepcion · 06/08/2011 14:48

DD has just resettled into part II of her nap after I studiously ignored a few minutes of wails and "Mama - aqui!" Smile
AND she slept through last night, waking just after 06.30. Hallelujah. Shame DH didn't - he got woken (as I did) by people drunkenly shouting at each other outside our window, but he didn't manage to get back to sleep, eventually giving up at about 06.00. He's off on a work-trip to The Gower today, bless him, I wonder if he'll pass out in the coach on the way back...

Aw, BG sorry to hear you're having trying times with poor DD2. What a shame. Sad

Likewise, sorry to hear you obviously had a bit of a night of it, BBB

Arf at "not too chav" trainers, SB!

How annoying that the shoes are a bit big for her, PA. Phooey. Check into local charity shops, you never know your luck. I found a pair of "boots" for DD at size 3 for two quid in one of our local ones.

Pah to your BF-sceptical family, Scones! And yay to your defiance. While at WOMAD I saw a couple of toddlers being breast-fed. I suppose I may have found it a little odd once upon a time, but now I think - yeah, why not?! I find it extraordinary given the tiny amount DD drinks that I am still producing milk, but I am.

DD has learned to say "milk" and constantly asks for it at meal-times - but only so she can make interesting little rivers in her porridge or soup. Hmm I still can't get her to drink it, but she's suddenly decided she adores Greek yoghurt and will happily spoon up a bowlful without addition of fruit or anything to sweeten it. So that's a bit of a result, really!

StoneBaby · 06/08/2011 18:37

IC good news on your DD asking for milk, at some point she may drink it. At least she gets calcium with the yogurt.

I've found trainers at Next, now need to ask DH's opinion. Tomorrow I'm aiming to list all the 2 years and 3 years clothes I've bought for DS and needs to put them away to be used when needed.

When given hand-down, do you give them back once you finish with them or pass them on?

BabyGiraffes · 06/08/2011 19:27

Another evening turning into a farce with dd2 refusing to settle and screaming for an hour now and dd1 now in tears because she would actually quite like to go to bed (sharing a room, so she can't sleep while dd2 is having tantrums...)... Might just accept that Wine Confused

BabyGiraffes · 06/08/2011 19:31

Okay, dd2 has finally gone quiet and dd1 has just made us laugh by writing random letters and numbers into my mum's crossword... Smile Might not turn out such a bad night after all Smile so I'll stop whinging now...

StoneBaby · 06/08/2011 19:37

BG sending you more Wine and also some biscuits

BabyGiraffes · 07/08/2011 13:01

dd2 has gone native... She will now only accept bread (preferably warm bread rolls straight from the bakery) with Dutch Gouda cheese for breakfast Grin

StoneBaby · 07/08/2011 13:25

BG mine is really French as most mornings, he'll have a croissant from the bakery. At least we know they can adapt to other food.

BabyGiraffes · 07/08/2011 17:01

Stone nice to have proper bakeries, eh? I miss that in the UK...

StoneBaby · 07/08/2011 18:52

Luckily we have a 'proper' French one over here. I couldn't live without it now that are here!!!

InmaculadaConcepcion · 07/08/2011 19:01

All your continental bakery yearnings got us into Most Active Grin

BabyGiraffes · 07/08/2011 19:15

IC that just means mn is unusually quiet tonight... But must say I am making the most of the bakery a few minutes away not just for warm bread rolls in the morning but also cake every afternoon [pulls in stomach to hide muffin top...] Grin And I am trying to eat my body weight in potatoes as well before dh joins us and demands pasta... Wink

StoneBaby · 07/08/2011 19:21

Do you eat the leftovers your LO don't? I found that I eating what's left to not waste!! I guess I'm going to pill up the weight very quickly.

Most active thread!!! Whoa, impressive knowing that we're speaking about continental food and bakery!!!

BabyGiraffes · 07/08/2011 19:34

Stone depends how much I like the meal... but I often do and it is beginning to show Smile
