GGF - thanks for the Peppa tip, came in handy Grin

It is chaos here today, a tired Mummy and two tired little boys does not make for an organised day Hmm

ginger - the baby bit is easier, because it isn't such a shock and you know it will only be for a short while. The difficulties come in other areas, but you don't have that dreadful 'omg where has my life gone, I want it back' thing that you do with your first.

chillikat · 25/08/2011 16:15

Well, after virtually no naps all week we're on nap no.3 today! Currently on my lap so one handed typing. She didn't last more than 4 songs at Tuneful Tots so once again we were singing to a sleeping baby :) she had about an hour on me then. Went for lunch at a cafe bar and she immediately fell asleep in the pram on the way home - I was amazed - Ali, she usuallly takes about a two mile walk before she'll drop off (just as we get home generally). And now she's fed again and asleep, I wonder if my lunchtime cider might have had some effect?Wink. Do I attempt to put her in the cot?...

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 25/08/2011 16:40

Nooo leave her in the buggy! Never wake/move/touch a sleeping baby Grin

T has refused to nap all day. DS1 has nearly dropped off several times but fought back awake.
DH has just put one in the sling and the other in the buggy and taken them out for a walk because the sun has finally come out, so I'm having a quick tidy and hoover and then a Brew before it is tea time. :)

chillikat · 25/08/2011 16:51

Oh, she woke from the lunchtime buggy nap soon after we got home. She's in my arms for this nap. Haven't attempted to put her in the cot as I've just been browsing MN and can't be bothered moving.

GlaikitFizzog · 25/08/2011 17:47

Well we have just had a tiredness meltdown. Only had about an hour sleep since we got up at 8.30. Dentinox isn't working its usual magic today, I may have to break out the big pink C. DH is due home soon so he can take over.

Sainsburys have their 25% off clothing offer on just now. Just spent the best part of £100 oops!! But it would be rude not too at that price really!

Uh oh, wailing again!

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 25/08/2011 19:25

Ooh Fizz really? I got a brilliant dress for BFing in there the other day, it was £20 - I should have waited!! I might go back tomorrow and get another one, they had it in black as well.

T has hardly napped today after being awake half the night, I have no idea how he is so awake!
We just popped him in the doorway bouncer to see if he liked it - cue much giggling and bouncing around. He is so cute Grin

BuckminsterFullerene · 25/08/2011 20:51

Hello!

we've been out all day at school getting results & tidying my lab. In my chem class we had 2 A*s and 4As, I'm very proud of them!

F was charming and did the full cute baby routine. I had him playing on a rug in my room while I chucked out mountains of rubbish & cleaned the inch-thick grime off my desk. I seem to have become a bit precious about my lab, & the cover teacher left it in a rift state.

So, it's all ready for me next week. NEXT WEEK!! Shock Where has the time gone?

And F has nearly mastered sitting up today. We'll keep practising tomorrow.

BuckminsterFullerene · 25/08/2011 20:52

*right state, not rift. Blame android.

GsyGacheFiend · 25/08/2011 21:18

ginger yes it is easier with the 2nd baby, you tend to be more laid-back and know more or less what to expect. I didn't get broody again until DS was about 2, before that I swore that I was only having 1 child and couldn't imagine coping with 2. Grin

I'm not saying it's easy, it does have it's own challenges but it's worth it, especially when I watch P's eyes light up when her big brother comes in the room. she watches him like a hawk. I'm pleased how the 3 year age gap has turned out too, although it's still early days.

Personally I wouldn't have wanted to cope with 2 toddlers. My DS was old enough to be able to comprehend that we were having a baby, but still young enough to adapt to it. It's also lovely that he's at pre-school so has his own little social life and isn't too clingy. I've been able to have some regular one-on-one time with P. My mum also regularly takes P one afternoon a week so I can go out somewhere with just DS.

Cyclebump · 25/08/2011 21:24

Hello from France! Ok, so Ryanair was a bloody nightmare but we made it. H slept through his first flight, much to the relief of the young academic who ran onto the plane last minute and looked horrified that he'd bagged the seat next to the baby. He even complimented us on how quiet he'd been. Unfortunately, when we got off the plane he suddenly demanded feeding as it was 9pm English time and we didn't get back to my parents' until midnight local time. Luckily H crashed out until 5.30am.

It's peeing with rain but H seems happy. Loves the cot here so we're definitely going for the cot when we get back.

Sympathy for all those with nap issues Sad H only does half hour naps but they're fairly regular. I never get him into the cot, he does his bouncy chair, the buggy and the sling.

Sympathy also goes to those going back to work. I start back half a day a week on Saturdays on 10 September Sad

Starshaped · 25/08/2011 23:38

H sounds like quite the seasoned traveller Cycle! Hope you both enjoy France.

I fear we're on for another taxing night here. P has already woken and fed once (from both sides after my worries earlier!) but has been almost impossible to resettle. She was screaming as if in pain, so we've cracked the medicine out. It's never a good omen when she's this unsettled so early on though. I'm predicting at least another three wake ups. I think DH is getting a bit fed up of my negativity about it all at the moment. Oh dear...

Sympathy to those who are returning to work imminently. In some ways the thought of going back makes me shudder but in other ways I quite like the thought of getting a little bit of the old me back. Bet I won't be saying that nearer the time though!

Uh oh, I can hear squawking through the baby monitor. Up I get - told you it waffling to be a bad one Sad

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 26/08/2011 00:52

Dear god T is still awake. It is his teeth I am sure, he just wants to be latched on all the time.

GsyGacheFiend · 26/08/2011 01:08

P is now finally asleep, I got DH to take her and bounce on the yoda ball as she'd been chomping on my nipples for an absolute age. I've spent the last hour tackling the huge ironing pile in the corner of the living room whilst watching Who Do You Think You Are on the sky+. I'm now just finishing my Brew.

GsyGacheFiend · 26/08/2011 01:27

Well DS had his legs in bed, his top half was hanging out the side resting on his Thomas Tank beanbag, the thump was his water bottle being knocked off the nightstand. He's now tucked in again, God they're heavy when they're asleep.

Ali Hope T settles soon. How old was your DS1 when he got his teeth. I know each child is different but I don't think P's teeth will be very long coming, I can see the white under her bottom gums and checked my DS's red book, his bottom 2 came at 25 and 26 weeks.

DairyBeetle · 26/08/2011 08:05

After an unsettled start S ended up sleeping through till 6.30am! Did take two hours of boob to settle him yesterday evening though. Poor thing looked so miserable.

Speaking of miserable it's a horrid day outside and we've plans to go out, and S doesn't have a coat (naughty mummy Blush ) He does have an all in one waterproof that was meant to be for winter so I might break that out for him. I could put him in the pushchair instead of a sling but then I can't use a brolly!

Starshaped · 26/08/2011 09:08

Turns out I was being overly optimistic when I predicted three wake ups last night :(.

I actually lost count of how many times we were up. At least hourly from 1am onwards and they weren't quick feeds and back to sleep jobbies either. It's no exaggeration to say that I feel like death warmed up this morning. She's been up since 5.30 now (when we finally gave up all hope of resettling her) and is absolutely refusing to nap. She must be exhausted.

I'm sorry for moaning. It's been like this for a week now though and I'm so fed up. I'm not asking for her to sleep through, a couple of nights with two or three straightforward wake ups would do. I don't think I've helped myself by looking at some of the horror stories on the sleep threads either. I've managed to convince myself that this is going to last for weeks. Oh cripes...

The rubbish weather here isn't helping my mood either. Can't you just tell it's a bank holiday weekend!

kittycatcat · 26/08/2011 10:08

You don't have to apologise star. that's what we are here for. Big hugs. Hopefully it won't last. S had two rubbish nights but last night was better, for which I am very thankful as I had a rare night out with a friend at a party and didn't get to bed til midnight, and I have a friend, my db, sil, dn and dn coming for the day!!

GlaikitFizzog · 26/08/2011 11:50

Well the no naps during the day have had an effect on nightimes. B had a 45 nap between 7 and 7.45 lastnight. i optimistically thought that might be him for the night. He had another feed and went back down at 8.45. The was hi til 6, dh fed him then and he then slept until 10.45 Shock. Sorry, I'm not bragging, I just cant work out what the hell is going on. He's being a perfect giggly baby too this morning Confused.

Hugs from me too Star.

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 26/08/2011 12:02

Star you poor thing. Don't apologise, it is awful when they won't sleep, just awful- you lose all sense of perspective about anything!!

GGF - DS1 had 3 teeth by the time he was 18 weeks old Shock Was it the Seb Coe WDYTYA? Really interesting I thought.

Cycle - glad you all made it in one piece :)

Shocking night again here. T dropped off just around 1am and slept until 4.45 - but DS1 was in with us from 1.05am, back in his own bed at 4am and then up at 6.15am. T had a quick feed at 4.45 and then went back in his cot until 7am and he's been back asleep since 10.30 although I think I can here squeaking now.

I have no idea what is going on with DS1, it is a nightmare. I think he might have had a bad dream because he was clinging onto me in bed like a little monkey. Really hoping he is back to sleeping well tonight!

Yes, squeaking turning to dinosaur sounds - T is awake :)

BuckminsterFullerene · 26/08/2011 12:12

oh Star, that sounds rough. Take it easy today & send DP out for chocolate/cake.

Beetle, good luck out there. We went to the doc & chemist this morning. Even my pants were wet by the time we got back. F was cosily tucked up in the pram with cosytoes & waterproof.

Doc was impressed with F this morning. She's satisfied it's reflux, and we're sticking with the gaviscon. And she wants me to put off weaning for a month or so & keep BFing for as long as poss! Smile I think we've found a good doctor.

GsyGacheFiend · 26/08/2011 13:10

Buck glad you've found a decent doc. I kept being told by HV's etc that ds's reflux would improve when he started weaning but we still had to keep up the gaviscon until he was nearly 1.

Yes it it was Ali, although i can't watch WDYTYA now without thinking of Grin

chillikat · 26/08/2011 13:54

That sketch is brilliant GGF and I was in stitches when he was actually on WDYTYA in the last series just hoping that it'd turn out like that.

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 26/08/2011 14:09

GGF I haven't see that before Grin

Buck really pleased you've found a good Dr Smile Mine is brilliant and very pro-BF and it makes all the difference not having to defend your choices all the time.

caramellokoalalover · 26/08/2011 15:50

Oh Star I really feel for you. Hope tonight is better. You must be seriously running on empty by now.

Ali do you think toilet training has had an effect on DS1's sleeping? Only ask as a good friend had a terrible time with her DD's sleep when she was toilet training. Hope you get your bed back tonight and more sleep!

I want your doctor Buck. Sounds like you & F are in good hands.

I loved that sketch GGF. WDYTYA always makes me feel all emotional so add tiredness with new baby and this series has me welling up every episode.

Speaking of family, Ginger I have to buck the trend on second babies and say I haven't found it all that much easier the second time round. I think because DS was such an easygoing baby and S has been much more of an enigma. I think if I had had S first I would have waited a lot longer before having another one Wink.

Thanks for all the words on daytime napping too. It's reassured me that I should just follow my instinct and let S sleep whenever and for however long she wants in the day. Last night was better than the last week so I don't want to jinx it but I hope we are in for a few better nights to come.

Very Envy at those of you on hols this weekend, the weather is rubbish here and I'm dreaming of warmer climes!

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 26/08/2011 19:22

GsyGache - I hear you when it comes to cold cups of tea, I bought an insulated mug thingy from Sainsbo's. It was only cheap but it very effective, although sometimes too effective as you can't drink it for an hour - and that is no exaggeration.

Star - you've probably been asked this question so many times, but are you co-sleeping? If you're not you may find you get more sleep if you do. I feel for you, I really do, sleep deprivation is bloody evil.

We had the boys tag teaming it last night as well. Luckily, since I has been in his cot he has been easier to settle when he wakes up, so that wasn't to bad, but then ds2 woke up. Didn't know why at the time, but I think a bout of impetigo is on it's way, he always has disrupted sleep for a night or two before it actually rears its ugly head.

Ds2 then pissed about with his lunchtime nap, but when he finally went to sleep I and I went to bed for a nap too. Now I'm not co-sleeping anymore I get my fix when we have a nap together Grin

Caramel - my sister always says that if she had had her dd first she wouldn't have had another! Her ds came out having read Gina Ford and her routine and her dd was completely at the different end of the spectrum!

We're all off to the Natural History Museum tomorrow (ds2 is dinosaur mad), wish us luck!
