I made Harry Eastwood's peach muffins, they're really good.

CakeandRoses · 07/06/2011 10:33

mlic will disagree Smile but i really believe that not all babies can do a 12 hour stretch without milk every night even at this stage chul. it's no skin off my nose to df her before i go to bed and if it means she sleeps later in the morning then it's all good.

your period is taking the piss!

the lie-in machine is finally working wonders. F now wakes at 6am, has his milk and a chunter "I'm sooo tired. It's still early" Hmm and then goes back to sleep til 7am. In fact this morning, dh had set it to the nap setting by accident (ie sun would come on again at 1pm not 7am!) and F slept til 7.40am.

needle i didn't want to jump in immediately and sully your lovely story with my feminist ramblings but i do want to say that i was very Angry and Sad to hear how your ex treated you. it's hearing about fucking cowardly, abusive twats like your ex that reminds me of why I believe so strongly in women's rights. I've personally been very lucky in many ways in life and haven't experienced much in the way of sexism - I kicked the shit out of the one ex who tried to be abusive but i'm well aware most women aren't in a position to be able to do that. Countries with the most chauvinism/least women's rights also coincidentally Hmm tend to have the worst instances of abuse of women. A and F will be equipped with the belief that women are equal to men and entitled to do/say/think/act/dream the same and also the ability to defend themselves physically if needs be.

cake, I do understand your point, but it wasn't really about sexism. He's just a slightly unhinged, small, pathetic little boy. It was more a class issue than a sex one, he considered himself to be far "better" and couldn't believe that I wasn't speechless with gratitude to him for having lifted me from the gutter. My contempt for him knows no bounds and he's the reason why I loathe any kind of drug taking. But the issues we had had nothing to do with sexism.

memphis83 · 07/06/2011 10:56

cakes totally agree about teaching L that we are all equal!!

right I made a quiche, then got mocked by the Asda advert showing the deep fill ones, it doesnt matter how much filling I put in as the curly haired man on the advert points out my quiche resembles an omlette!! if there anything I can do to fix it or is it just buying a deeper quiche tin and adding 3 times the filling as in the recipe!!???

Needle · 07/06/2011 11:00

A deeper tin probably hun, although my recipe is usually pretty reliable, i'll look it out.

CakeandRoses · 07/06/2011 11:37

sorry, i probably didn't make my point v clearly needle. i didn't mean that his abuse was directly related to sexism more that that's a strong underlying factor at a society level, iyswim? simply put: lack of women's right = men think it's ok to treat women how they want and women think they have to accept it.

either way, he's a dick and i'm glad you got out.

OP posts:
Needle · 07/06/2011 11:49

Hmmm. There's a HUGE philosophical debate there which i'm absolutely not going to get into today! All i'll say is that there is a world of difference between moral equality and sexual equality, and you won't be surprised to know that I have controversial opinions on the matter!

CakeandRoses · 07/06/2011 12:14

i would expect noting less Smile

another day then...

Im attempting to make cupcakes for L's birthday party im not normally a cupcake fan but my idea is I make a cake in the shape of a 1 as the ceterpiece then everyone takes a cupcake home leaving us the 1 to eat on his actual birthday, I decided on blue buttercream ive now mixed it and it looks a bit too erm....blue?!?! trying to make cakes boyish is making them look non edible!!! and to make thinks worse my handblender has just died in my hands, I fear it gave up on me as there was talk of me wanting a Kitchen Aid last night and I think its gave up as I was talking of cheating on it :(

Needle · 07/06/2011 12:44

Memphis, beat in some melted white chocolate, that'll cool the colour down x

memphis83 · 07/06/2011 13:04

needle cheers, ive just took them out the oven, ive never been great at fairy cake/single cakes think I need to go back to the drawing board, Im rubbish at bog standard cake mixes as a whole!! forgot to say on subject of bike, we got L a helmet when he was 5 months and it will last til he is 2-3, its a specialized brand one, they are suppost to be great for safety, and I too am petrified on a bike, we have a rear seat and a trailer, I thought the trailer would steady me but I was wrong, I handled 20 yards before I swapped with dh!!! bored today its raining and ive baked and cleaned all day and havent got enough sr flour to make anything else!!

Chulita · 07/06/2011 13:16

We've got a specialized one too, with pirates on Grin

memphis do you use syrup colouring or liquid?

Chulita · 07/06/2011 13:17

You can use plain flour with baking powder added, if you want a foolproof cupcake recipe the hummingbird bakery vanilla ones are lovely, I can copy the recipe for you if you're interested.

memphis83 · 07/06/2011 13:24

chulita yes please!! its a syrup one from the cake shop and I only used a spot of it like she told me too but it is way too blue, think I need to think of a differnent colour, I cant eat blue food! the cupcake cases are too big for my tray so they have all splayed open and not gone upwards iyswim!!!

Needle · 07/06/2011 13:28

Memphis, it sounds to me like you're trying to use cupcake/ muffin cases in s bun tin. You need old fashioned fairy cake cases. You can usually get them in the supermarket.

Albrecht · 07/06/2011 13:43

Hello everyone, I was wondering if I could join in? I introduced myself before the babies were born but wasn't sure if he was going to be a June or July baby then things got a bit choppy here (family issues, pnd / pts). Anyway I'm doing a bit better and trying to get my shit together and get a life. Is it ok if I practice on you lot? Smile

I have already learnt I need to clean my floor more often...

ds is 11 months (today!) and of the non-sleeping, not-really-into-solids, bf-all-the-time variety.

Needle · 07/06/2011 13:54

Hi albrecht, welcome back! Feel free to jump right in. We need to know whether you iron so that we can work out which camp you're in.

Albrecht · 07/06/2011 14:05

Firmly in the NON camp! I ironed for a week when I got my first proper job, then I started buying stuff that didn't need ironing. Now we are fortunate to have an outside line so things come out nice and soft as its always blowy here. I love my washing line, sunlight gets rid of a lot of baby related stains too.

Needle · 07/06/2011 14:07

Gosh, it's quiet in the ironing camp.

memphis83 · 07/06/2011 14:18

well needle I think the only ironers are us two and mlic!!!
welcome albrecht where in the world are you? ive got pnd too so feel free to vent on here when you need to, I certainly do!

Spirael · 07/06/2011 14:21

Ok, I'm here! What did I miss? :)

Hi Albrecht, I'm another one with a 7/7 baby that's 11 months today! It's the grand ceremonial monthly weighing and measuring later... Hopefully she'll be more than 9kg and able to go into her bigger car seat. (Since she's getting too tall for the little one...)

For the mini survey:

Dishwasher?
Yep, run at least once per day. However it is one of the smaller ones, so we can't actually fit that much stuff in. If my kitchen was bigger, I'd get a bigger one!

Tumble drier?
I have a washer dryer. I only use the dryer part for sheets/underwear/towels however, everything else gets dried on the line or on an airer in the conservatory.

Treats?
All fairly geeky: New manga novels, computer/console games, shiny new roleplaying dice, high-fantasy/sci-fi novels, anime films... Oh, though pretty hair clips and kitchen/baking bits and bobs might count?
I also have a daily 'tasty' treat at 8pm, which is something small but delicious, like a single posh chocolate. The rest of the time, I stick religiously to healthy food.

Going out?
I go to work every day, if that counts? Wink Aside from that, we don't really have anything regular organised where we go out. DH is taking me to the cinema this weekend though!! (He never normally takes me to the cinema. Shock)

Dh's responsibilities?
Everything is pretty much 50/50, really. I do the laundry, DH cleans the bathroom. I mow the lawn and hoover, DH does the washing up. Etc...
On a day to day basis, DH gets up first and sorts out the lunches while I stagger out of bed and get myself and M dressed. After work, we vary over who makes dinner and who entertains M, then we do the bedtime routine together. After that, we both spend half an hour to an hour blitzing an area of the house that needs tidying before chilling out until bedtime.

How often do I clean the kitchen floor?
It gets hoovered every week or two, then mopped about once a month.
In my defense, we're not in the house as much as some, and M doesn't come into the kitchen! Her play area is the lounge (which we can see from the kitchen) which gets hoovered every few days.

Chulita · 07/06/2011 14:28

Hold on a mo then memphis just need to get S from his nap and I'll write it down. For this recipe I use muffin or fairycake cases in a muffin tin and they work fine.

Not ignoring everyone else btw, just a bit busy :)
