Here we are, our new thread and this time we all have our babies !

I thought we were getting thrush again, but then realised I had let ds's latch get sloppy. He was constantly clicking and tutting at the breast but I was too distracted to notice.

Ds and I made butterfly cakes together this morning, ds got to choose the colour of the buttercream icing ..... It is a very lurid shade of pink and they are covered in sugar strands. You can never have enough sugar!

Well he seems fine today, just waking from his morning snooze and looking ofr a feed. I'm expecting a poo today, he's been trumping all morning and they are a just a bit pongy!!

Suns out here again, so we'll head out for a wee walk after lunch. I've been meaningto join the local library for ages so thats the plan for today! And I need to mop the floors downstairs. Maybe I'll leave that for DH!! Bad me!

chillikat · 04/07/2011 12:05

We've had a big scream fest this morning :( I think it's due to farts as i did feel a few come out - they seem quite powerful - no wonder she cries. Does anyone have any ideas on what could help? I'm also going to ask at the clinic when i get her weighed later.

Before all that MIL phoned asking if they could take M out to the park for a walk to give me an hour to myself. Now an hour to myself on a Monday doesn't fill me with joy- I could put the weekend wasing in and have a tidy up Hmm but I'm not sure I want M to have an hour away from me or DH yet. I suppose at 3 months maybe I need to think about it. As it was she needed a feed (finally had some after scream fest) and we'll head out soon to the health clinic so I've put her off til at least later in the week. Am I being paranoid new mum?

kittycatcat · 04/07/2011 12:33

If they have an answer for you chilli let me know cos s is the same. gets terrible pain farting. Also I think you will know when you are ready. Dh only took s out without me yest for the first time and s is 8 weeks. We are having to leave him with his grandparents at the weekend as we have a wedding s isn't invited too. I could happily wait longer to leave him but feel more relaxed than I did.

Starshaped · 04/07/2011 14:42

Hmmm, don't think I'll bother speculating on a bumbo then!

We've had a good few nights here, with over six hours of unbroken sleep. Bliss! The good nights never seem to last for long though, so we'll probably have a nightmare tonight. We've also got jabs coming up, so they might unsettle things...

As for leaving your LO with somebody else, I think that completely depends on you and how you're feeling. We've already left P with SiL for a few hours one evening and with my parents for an hour or so while I nipped out to run some errands. I really appreciated the break and relished a little bit of baby free time (is that awful?!) but I guess I also knew I was leaving her with people who I trust and who are ultimately much more experienced with babies than me! Wink

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 04/07/2011 16:08

chilli it's up to you. We left DS1 with my parents for a couple of hours at around 3-4 months to go out to the cinema and out to dinner. I would be happy to leave T with either my parents or MIL - or SIL or my DB in actual fact but so far he won't take a bottle which leaves us a bit stumped.

chillikat · 04/07/2011 16:24

Kitty the health visitor at the clinic suggested gripe water. M seems to have lots of pain and goes rigid so I might give it a go. I ws also told she might have thrush as her tongue was a bit white and it was a while since she was fed. She's not really been feeding much today - I've been blaming the fart pain.

Off to the chemist tomorrow to get gripe water and stuff for thrush :(

I feel exhausted today after all the crying, then the Children's Centre changed it's policy on allowing prams in so had to lock up the pram outside, then juggle baby, changing bag and my bag. If I'd known I'd have arranged stuff better.

I think I'll be OK with MIL taking her out for a walk, it just put me on the spot this morning when i wasn't expecting it. M won't take a bottle either so it wouldn't be for too long.

Just had a Brew and icecream and waiting for Tesco delivery. M is on the playmat and I've realised not only had she not fed much she's not napped much so we could be in for a fun evening :(

kittycatcat · 04/07/2011 17:03

Thanks chilli let me know how it goes. And that's not v helpful of the childrens centre!!

LisMcA · 04/07/2011 17:55

I'm sorry, your childrens centre has banned prams! Crazy!!!

B has screamed all afternoon after our trip to the library. He was thankfully asleep while we were there. I got the Mumsnet guide to Babies and the Rules!! Bed time reading for moi!!

So the screaming again, other than continual feeding, nothing is settling him. He finally fell asleep in my arms about half an hour ago and I laid him in his cot. I think I might try increasing his feeds, see if he just wants more.

fraktious · 04/07/2011 18:33

Hmm at banning prams.

We have BIL staying so I'm exhausted. Having to do proper dinners and play tour guide. He knows nothing about babies and has come out with a few corkers! Yes, I spend a large part of my day feeding, cleaning up spit or changing nappies.

Lis I'm quoted in the MN guide to babies under an old name. It was odd - I read to quote with a weird sense of deja vu, then realised I was the one who'd written it.

No time to namecheck properly but yes to gripewater, no to bumbos and yay for sleep.

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 04/07/2011 21:46

Oh yes gripewater is bloody amazing stuff. We got through several bottles with DS1 Grin

kittycatcat · 05/07/2011 06:09

Will be purchasing gripe water Smile

I am stunned! Fed s at 9.05 pm. Put him to bed at 10.45pm. He just woke up at 6am! Weigh in later. Wonder if he is still gaining a pound a fortnight.

LisMcA · 05/07/2011 08:00

Well unsettled days seem to pave the way for good nights. Down at 8pm, woke at 5.55, change, feed and then back down. I can hear some grunting on the monitor, but I think he's still actually sleeping. I was in bed not long after 9 so I feel like a new person!! Yeserday was not a good day.

Question for you all, how can a baby that has screamed all afternoon suddenly turn into a cherub like angel as soon as daddy gets home????? I'm sure he thinks I make the screaming up.

Baby group at 10 this morning. It's nice to see others in the same situation as me!!

No sun here today, but it's horribly muggy already. All the windows are open and Bs room is still at 22 degrees. Just waiting for the rain!

Starshaped · 05/07/2011 09:41

P is the same. She saves all her worst behaviour for her mummy and is super baby when my parents come round to save my sanity. They definitely think I'm making it up!

Petalouda · 05/07/2011 12:12

If an unsettled day leads to good nights, we're in for a treat tonight!

We're having a Daddy-Day-Care-Dry-Run today. I'm going into work on Thursday, leaving F with DH for the whole day for the first time. So today Daddy is in charge!

It's not going brilliantly. We've had a lot of screaming. But I don't know if it's more to do with a sore tummy (he's been trumping non stop all morning, no poos yet though). Or it could be that he was massively overstimulated with our day out yesterday, and late night.

And I'm not sure me being here is a help or a hindrance. Not sure if F's wondering why I won't bf him (I'm expressing for DH to feed). So he's only taken about 50ml since 7am.

We're off for a walk into town, maybe that'll settle him a bit.

architien · 05/07/2011 12:29

*waves at everyone. Going to go and catch up now.....I may be some time :)

LisMcA · 05/07/2011 12:40

good to see you!

I've just met alpha mummy at baby group. We are going to be bff I can just tell WinkHmm.

architien · 05/07/2011 12:45

Sounds interesting Lis do tell

DairyBeetle · 05/07/2011 13:39

Ooo Lis spill the goss Wink Grin

Hey arch >waves<

I'm off for attempt number I haven't a clue anymore at getting S to take a bottle or cup, I want DH to try but his hayfever is so bad at the moment he can't hold S for more than 5mins before sneezing and snotting all over him, which probably isn't making the bottle or cup anymore appetising!

Cyclebump · 05/07/2011 14:13

Ugh, toothache shouldn't be allowed when you have a baby Sad

Oooh, Lis, do tell, am thinking of braving a baby morning soon so want to be prepared. Oh and H is generally fab for daddy, they have man chat for ages while I am considered boring after few minutes Hmm

LisMcA · 05/07/2011 14:31

Sorry to post that and run!! B is being grumpy again today. Thankfully he's goner to sleep, so hopefully that will be him for a good hour or so.

Right, Alpha Mummy! She is chairperson of the M&B group. It#s hardly a huge group, in the small community centre in the next village, but the power has obviously gone to her head!!

Started by her coming in today and B and I were already there. I'd not met her before as she'd been on holiday. It started badly by her asking "And who are you?" So I introduced myself and Blair. "Isn't that a girls name" was her response. HmmAngry face from me! Then some of my ante natal pals came in. And sat beside me. She decided they should sit at the other side of the room, no idea why, feng shui probably. I moved with them, I don't think this is what she wanted to happen going by her cats bum face!

So we carried on chatting and I got a bottle out for B. "Oh you're formula feeding are you?" she said. So I put her right on that one, as if it's any of her business. One of the other girls asked how I got on after my CS. Cue another catsbumface and a "oh thats a shame" comment from AM! I swear to god how I didn't smack her in the face remains a total mystery. No offence to any NCT mums, but this is what I'd imagined them to be like.

They are having a bake sale next week to raise funds so she was asking for people to donate something, but instead of doing what you want to do she was telling everyone what she wanted them to make. "You can do a Lemon Drizzle LisMcA" Eh no! I don't think so! I offered to do a chocolate cake (it's very good) as I have the stuff in, but this was refused as she is doing the chocolate cake! I'm going to do one anyway and take it along just to piss her off, and as sure as eggs is eggs it will be the best bloody cake I've ever made and I'll decorate it!

Seriously I used to read the alpha mummy threads on here and think no way is that real, must just be OPs over reaction!! But I have had first hand experience now! I think I'm fit for her though! I'm goign to start a campaign "Lis for alpha mummy". Would you guys vote for me?

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 05/07/2011 15:32

Hi arch (waves madly back)

Yuck to the toothache cycle, being I'll and looking after a baby/ child is tough. It's the worse thing about being a sahm I think. Can you get to the dentists?

Ignore, ignore, ignore Lis. People like that woman are just vile, and I'm glad you're going to make the chocolate cake and not what you were ordered to make. Fancy telling people what to make!

I had red circles on his cheeks this morning that looked suspiciously like the red cheeks they get when they are teething. There has also been lots of drooling, fist sucking and he also nipped my nipp with his gums. He is only 10 weeks old, surely not teething symptoms already? I have a horrible feeling that I am due payback with teething as the other two pretty much sailed through it.

chillikat · 05/07/2011 15:43

After our clinic visit yesterday can someone tell me about thrush? I'm not sure M's tongue is white other than from milk or being sick, certainly not much of a coating. She's been crying sometimes when I've tried to feed her over the last couple of days and stretching out and going stiff (wind?). Nor do I seem to have symptoms - should i get us treated or a second opinion?

Lis she sounds nuts. And you can't have too much chocolate cake :)

LisMcA · 05/07/2011 16:28

Can you scrape the white stuff of Ms tongue? If you can it's milk/sick if not its thrush. It may bleed when you scrape it, again if it does likely to be thrush. i wish I'd taken phots of Bs thrush, if you google image baby thrush<a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=www.easybabylife.com/images/baby-thrush.jpg&imgrefurl=www.easybabylife.com/thrush.html&usg=__YOLJIWvHg6cmCCdcJUo0z2StLss=&h=149&w=227&sz=8&hl=en&start=0&zoom=1&tbnid=N0q5614jmAxJjM:&tbnh=110&tbnw=168&ei=8CsTTq3ECMu0hAfJ3OXzDQ&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dbaby%2Bthrush%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26sa%3DN%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-GB:official%26biw%3D1024%26bih%3D456%26tbm%3Disch&um=1&itbs=1&iact=hc&vpx=358&vpy=131&dur=934&hovh=110&hovw=168&tx=82&ty=67&page=1&ndsp=9&ved=1t:429,r:5,s:0" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">this is what B's looked like. It can look really nasty too, ignore those images!! I didn't have any symptoms in my nipples when B had it (it was just after he had his TT snipped so we were trying to boob feed) although I had just been treated for down below thrush the week before.

Also how is Ms bum? Bs bum was a bit red which I'm thinking was the start of nappy thrush, but the drops treat that too by working through the system.

And there is my knowledge of baby thrush!! Tah Dah :o

Petalouda · 05/07/2011 16:33

Wow, Lis that AM sounds like fun Hmm. Not sure I could put that much energy into that kind of role. Am I right in thinking it's the previously-professional DH-works-in-Lahndon-in-the-week middle-class type? Or is that just my judgy-pants giving me a wedgie?

ILTMI I don't know anything about teething, but it sure sounds like it. And scarily, sounds like what F is doing too.

Chilli we get the back-arching & screeching when feeding here too. F seems to do it more at my crazy-daisy boob (fast flow), but often at either & the bottle too. But the screaming causes him to gulp in air, which obviously makes him uncomfortable, and makes him scream more... ad infinitum. Oh, and now he doesn't like it when you talk while he's feeding.

We've just got some gripe water - thanks to the recommendations from everyone above. Hope it helps settle him.

Can't remember if I said earlier, well done for surviving the wedding Cycle, I hope it was everything your sister wanted.

Beetle, how are you getting on with the bottle? We've been trying to get F to take a bottle from DH all day, with not a lot of luck. He'll take it from me, but gets in a massive tiz with DH. They end up winding each other up a treat.

Hope things improve a bit before bedtime. DH is going to have to manage by himself on thursday. If nothing else he'll have a better appreciation for what I do all day!

Oh, and Hi Arch!

LisMcA · 05/07/2011 16:45

Not sure Petal! drives a 4x4 3 kids under 5, given our proximity to Edinburgh, she would be what I would call the Morningside set, where as I'm common as muck me! I'm looking forward to next week!
