Hope this is ok? Thought it was subtle enough for the wider MN and not offensive!!

WG I love Bleak Expectations, it's one of the funniest things on R4. As a rule I'm underwhelmed by R4 comedy but BE is an exception, it's brilliant.

Am being rammed by a dumper truck and a bus, I think it's a hint. Later Grin

Deids day 3 no nap here and this morning was 630 so a 45 min improvement so far! Costco we had total meltdowns but didn't stop us spending over £300 on groceries which didn't even touch the sides of our freezer! yesterday he was an angel for brunch at Giraffe and today he was pure hell at Harvester for brekky - perhaps he knows where he can get away with being more feral Hmm We will be riding it out though in hopes of reaching 7am [hopeful] DD has been marvelous she has dropped her 11pm-ish nap for the last 3 nights and slept 7pm-430am Shock it'll probably end now that I've written it. Still in teething hell though

WG DD has another middle name but that's a family surname too so also did the paranoid routine and didn't put it down! Warming to my R4 comedy theme, I usually find the 11.30am slot much funnier than the 6.30pm.

Funny lettuce knives should come up - we are the proud owners of a lettuce knife Blush It's made of plastic, which means the lettuce won't go brown where it's been cut - supposedly. I don't know what possessed me to buy it (well I do actually, I was seduced by the Lakeland catalogue) but it's never been used for lettuce. We have found a use for it though: DS uses it as his knife as he's not going to remove any fingers with it but it cuts through cheese, carrots etc so he can 'help' with the cooking and I don't mind if it disappears into his toy cooking paraphernalia.

anyway, before I forget I'll add myself to the list - did we start off alphabetical? Or do we need ZJ to do that for us at the end? Wink I'll pop myself in with the Ts...

HRHvagolaJahooli · 30/05/2011 16:20

Need the white light ladies. Our lovely ragdoll cat Marshmellow has gone missing. I let her out into our garden during the day as it has high walls and she is crap and jumping very high. Anyway it seems she has improved and has been gone all day. We have looked all over the house in case she has fallen asleep somewhere bizarre. But so far no where. She is not much of an outdoor cat and usually just hangs out in a hidden spot amongst the plants but she is not in the garden. I can't fathom how she got beyond our walls unless she snuck out when DH left through the back gate but she wouldn't be able to do it without him seeing her. Shes not very stealth like. She has never been out in the big wide world and I'm worried she's been run over or stolen. She is very trusting and very beautiful so if someone saw her & wanted to nick her they could just pick her up! Another concern is I can't find anywhere in her little vet book that she has been sorted out in the nether regions, so she may well be fertile and wandered off to get her groove on. I was just today going to make an appointment for her yearly imms and see if the vet could find out if she's been done.

EffiePerine · 30/05/2011 16:50

Woohoo indeed Urbs that's my birthday. Oh I would love if you had your Urbanebaby on my birthday.

The wanton cat has returned. My neighbours heard me calling for her and popped her back over the fence. She was over there sleeping in their garden all day. We have found her escape route & altered it so she can't use it. It's not that we mind her going over, its just she is such a weakling she can't get back.

JJ I said happy birthday on FB, I love the presents you got, your DH is very thoughtful.

Hurrah for your due date urbane. You are going to have a busy festive period with all those birthdays!

spot on the napping front, I'm afraid my DD still doesn't nap properly. 2 30-40 min naps today. Though hopefully B will be happier once he can sit up, my DD was v low maintenance at the sitting but pre crawling stage despite pathetic napping meaning total peace was rare. She's a liability now.

wg what were you making with the lattice cutter? Not that I know what a lattice is just wondering what the poncy recipe was (or did you say)

vag glad your cat is back, phew

jj hurrah for the house, very exciting. And happy birthday.

nolda tell me more about your thomas train trading (going back a bit)....DS is obsessed with his brio Thomas trains. Drives me mental though. Nooooo...I don'twant to go to bed, I WANT TO PLAY TRAINS. Mummy....you want to play trains... And obviously we are now having to try and train(sic) DD not to touch the bleeding trains...with no effect, the play pen has been put up more to stop her destroying intricate train set ups than for her own safety. A bit harsh I fear.

Urbs lovely to see your due date.

Have been a slave to the paintbrush this weekend. I am seriously in love with F&B elephant breath. Tis lovely!

Have a super week all. Half term for us so busy busy and its DS1's 4th birthday on Friday am so excited for him a trip to the dinosuar museum and a party with his pals on Sunday.

Will check in later on this week.

JumpJockey · 31/05/2011 04:44

vag glad the wandering cat returns :)

so I greet you from an hour into E's nightly roll, flail and gruntathon. She wakes up, starts trying to turn over in bed, whacks her legs on the side of the cot and starts to cry. I try latching her on to shut her up, she kicks me lots or flails her head around and ends up giving me a boob hickey instead of feeding and going back to sleep. Have to bring her downstairs and stick her on the mat to stop her getting wedged in cot and hurting herself. This has been going on at somewhere between 3 and 5am for the last 2 weeks. Grrr.

She also manages to wake up farting at whatever time I go to bed, be that 10, 10.30, 11, 11.30...would move her to her own room but it's the back room with the boiler which is super noisy and also on the far side of the stair gate, at very top of the stairs, so not the safest place to be trying to get to in the middle of the night. Bring on the new house... [yawn]

Beans33 · 31/05/2011 08:58

Hurray for Marshmallow!
My DDs have both started almost sleeping through again - hurray (DD2 only up once last night and DD1 not at all - treat! and night before other way round). It is such a relief after weeks of one or both of them being up about 4 times a night minimum. I was beginning to despair for my sanity. This morning, DD2 didn't even wake up til 6.45, instead of the usual 5.45!!

But, typically, tonight we're driving off down to Devon for a holiday. Will be lovely, but all 4 of us are sharing a room and I suspect it's going to be pretty hellish on the sleep front. Not looking forward to it immensely on that front. It's Dad's 70th do, though, so will act overjoyed at all times. We were meant to be in Greece this week, with adjoining rooms and childcare etc, which would have been amazing! However, Devon will be heavenly to be on the beach with the girls, who will love it. And will go for lovely long walks and things too. Will be ace. Dad is getting better, but it's a slow old process and he's a rubbish patient! Thought he'd be back on his feet in no time, but he forgets he's 70 and recovery takes longer! He's got to rest with his foot up this holiday and he'll be itching to join in with everything. Poor chap.

Anyway, I must go and put DD2 to bed and pack for her and her sister. And for me!!! Leaving at 8 tonight, going to Winchester to stay with friends for the night (they have spare bed and cot for DDs) and cuts 1.5 hours off journey. Then tomorrow, 3 hour drive to Devon. Think will go at lunchtime so girls snooze. But maybe could set off in the morning and let DD2 have a long snooze in the car. Migth then be there for lunchtime, which would be nice. Although can't check in til teatime. Hmmmmm. Sorry, meandering mind. What do you all think???!

I am a dullard.

OP posts:
SummerLightning · 31/05/2011 09:45

Ahhh, sorry sleep is still shite jj. That sounds very hard. If you want me to take DD2 out for a walk so you can have a snooze I will be over your way this afternoon, with just dd (picking e up from nursery) so could do? Though I don't have car, so would have to cycle over and borrow pushchair or something!

Don't know how you guys manage on so little sleep. I am getting grumpy that DD isn't sleeping through, also she refuses to go to sleep by herself, and whereas she used to drink milk and conk out now it takes about half hour to an hour of cuddling her to get her to sleep. Which is ok when there is two of us, as the one doing the cuddling can just watch tv/read/muck around on phone, but when just one of us is a bit unfair on DS. Suspect this may be related to why she's not sleeping through as well, she eats a lot so don't thinkshe is hungry. How do you get them to settle themselves? DS just did it by now, though still needed cuddling/car seat/pram for naps.

beans I would go for the getting up in a fairly leisurely way and then setting off, hopefully dd1 might have an early nap then? Would be nice to be there for a late lunch I reckon. Hope youhave a nice time, I am with you on the four in a room nightmare, though I quite like hearing all the little breaths when everyone is (finally) asleep. Little team of four all alseep in one room!

SO I have decided to stop breastfeeding, despite DH telling me it would be "easier" to keep doing it. Am only doing the one feed in the night now, am optimistically hoping she will drop it on her own! I don't think it's DH being deliberately mean with his "it would be easier thing", but when we go away he insists that we share lie ins despite me being up in the night! Which I didn't REALLY mind when she fed in 10 mins flat and went back to sleep, but she's taken to being more of a pain in the arse recently and faffing around for ages. It will be really nice to say on holiday "your night tonight" and know that i can have a FULL NIGHTS SLEEP.

Rubena · 31/05/2011 13:02

SL how long after milk / feed do you put her down for nap / bed?

SummerLightning · 31/05/2011 13:06

Well milk around 7 try to get her to sleep immediately but rarely asleep til 730 or 8. Solids between 530 and 630.

Rubena · 31/05/2011 13:16

My dd always self settles fine but HV did mention putting in cot straight after feeds is worst thing as they don't learn to self settle unless tummy full hence might wake in night and not settle back to sleep without milk despite not needing the feed if that makes sense

Beans33 · 31/05/2011 13:40

SL - we do milk at 6ish ( after bath, whatever time that is), then pop her to bed about half an hour - one hour after that. She does self-settle now. Although we have to pop in on occasion as she stands up and throws her duck out of the cot, then screams.
