In case people are interested this was the program. The institute for energy efficiency is the part of the uni my work is funded from.

StoneBaby · 28/04/2011 17:03

scones bottles of milk luck warm (just to take the chill of as my fridge is very cold) and no sterilization since April 2010.

Bad night here according to our standard.

ChestnutSoup · 28/04/2011 19:14

scones that's exactly it, I don't want to nag but DH just doesn't see things that need doing, so I have to ask or point them out if I don't want to do them myself (not "don't want to" but you know what I mean). Then he pulls a face, says he'll do it later, then forgets because he gets distracted by the TV/radio/newspaper/game on his mobile... Then I remind him, and get accused of nagging. I've pointed out many a time that he either needs to see what needs doing and do it, or do it when I ask. Being unobservant, a procrastinator and forgetful do not make for a happy wife!

Anyway, I'll stop moaning (and thanks for listening). I've had a lovely day with the DDs, and am looking forward to the weekend as it's a mix of the DDs being with my ILs (two nights!) so DH and I can go out/do some stuff, and some time with the DDs and we have friends over one day and are out with family another day.

Oh and nilk. I give DD2 cow's milk (and DD1 as it happens). DD2 has it in a sippy cup and I microwave it for a few seconds. I don't sterilise the cup, just wash it well. DD1 has her milk as it comes in a glass.

BC and PA I love your stories of the great and the good (in different ways). My life is very dull by comparison. My only claim to fame is that my brother is a very well known pharmacist, and has just been appointed to the NHS Future Forum (David Cameron's belated attempt to consult about the NHS reforms he's put in without talking to anyone about it - but don;t get me started on that!).

Enjoy the long weekend, those who are getting one:)

BigBadBear · 28/04/2011 19:17

Oh, and I've changed my username again as DH has been reading over my shoulder. I wouldn't mind if he wasn't so damn secretive with his own email/mobile phone, so I'm changing my MN name on principle!

BigBadBear · 28/04/2011 19:17

It's CS, by the way, just don't tell DH:o

StoneBaby · 28/04/2011 19:29

BigBdBear is that in relation with your cave? Grin

StoneBaby · 28/04/2011 19:34

I've just made a discovery... If I put the bamboo insert (from DS nappies) into the tumble dryer, they come out all soft and fluffy Shock instead of been very hard when dried on the airing frame.

Sorry, needed to share! Blush

StoneBaby · 28/04/2011 19:45

Does anybody have a LO who tantrum?
DS is very determinate (meaning stubborn) and if something is not done his way he drops on his knees and screaming and crying. It mostly happens when he went to go into the kitchen to get food (anytime of the day) or if he wants me to go somewhere with him and I don't or can't. I hope it'll stop before we reach the terrible 2 Confused

InmaculadaConcepcion · 28/04/2011 20:08

Yep, SB, see above!
DD has started throwing paddies at the slightest provocation. She can mostly be calmed down by distraction or by cuddling and singing to her.

Hi BBB! Sounds like you've got a lovely weekend ahead. Enjoy!

StoneBaby · 28/04/2011 20:20

Oh yes IC it's "good" to know I'm not alone

bethylou · 28/04/2011 22:03

Have I not mentioned the headbanging SB? When DS2 is cross he either throws himself backwards and smacks his head on the nearest radiator/wall we are carrying him past or lies on the floor banging his forehead on the floor repeatedly. Hard... We took him for his first walk in the woods today. No more backpack for my little intrepid adventurer! He would not hold our hands or even let us hold his hood so he fell over repeatedly but loved it anyway. I thought DS1 was stubborn and determined, but DS2 really seems to trump him!

When I go into the kitchen he shouts "Nana" (as in banana, nothing to do with his grandmothers) and clings to both my legs screaming the place down (and we have repeatedly been told how very loud he is!) This makes matters worse as I simply can't move to get a wriggle on and get his food ready. He's so damn heavy I really can't hold him on one arm while I sort it out. You will seem him in the sumo section of the 2012 Olympics!!

Anyway, let's hope we all have a lovely weekend and that SC's family are all on the mend now.

PenguinArmy · 28/04/2011 22:07

DD also like to bang her head against her cot (quite hard as well)

She has now learnt to climb down from the sofa after I told DH to just let her fall. I knew she already knew how to do it.

We have a lot of shouting/crying. Distraction sometimes works, the ball is particularly good for this. Mostly we get around it by hiding stuff so she can't see it in the first place.

StoneBaby · 28/04/2011 22:25

Can I hide my kitchen? Hmm Grin UnfortunTely distraction doesn't really work, except going into the garden to watch the birds, play with the watering can which brings another tantrum when I take the can away to get DS back into the house. I guess it's just a phase, this too shall pass

PenguinArmy · 28/04/2011 23:06

We only have stuff in the bottom cupboards we don't mind her having. There is a picture on her album of her climbing into one of the cupboards.

bethylou · 29/04/2011 08:57

Hmm... after half an hour of unusual crying in the night, DS2 has woken with 5 fluid-filled blisters. Watching and waiting now to see whether it is chicken pox and whether we are not going to Lincoln for great-granny's 89th birthday party (and intro to DS2!) after all. One of the children at his minder came down with it on Tuesday but they haven't seen each other since last Wednesday - information on it seems very mixed as to whether or not he can have caught it from him or not. Happy bank holiday weekend!!

SocietyClowns · 29/04/2011 09:57

Beth oh dear, that does sound like chickenpox...

dd2 had a set back yesterday and D&V again, so I am very cruel today (in her eyes) by only giving water and toast/banana etc.
The rest of us are okay except my mum who spent the night sweating and shivering in turn. I feel awful that she got the flu thing from dh because she is not in the best of health to start with. Mind you, she is well enough to sit in front of the TV to watch the royal wedding [cgrin]. I just got a few of my grandma's hats out to celebrate in style... dd1 looks fab in a hat!

Bearcrumble · 29/04/2011 10:18

Oh Bethylou what a shame. Poor DS2. From what I've read people are most infectious from 2 days before blisters appear until they crust over but I guess that doesn't mean you can't pass it on prior to two days before the spots, just that it's less likely.

SC Oh dear, I'm sorry that the illnesses are lingering/spreading. I'm sure you all look great in your hats.

DS doesn't do headbanging but he gets very vocal and shouty when I won't let him have something or try and take something off him. It's totall gibberish but definitely sounds like he's scolding me and I have to say it makes me laugh because it sounds like Charly the cat off the 70s cartoons.

LeMousquetaireAnonyme · 29/04/2011 10:26

Beth It sounds like chicken pox. He can't have caught it from his friend but they were probably infected at the same time. 15 to 21 days incubations, infectious before the spots arrived and until they are all dry.
good luck.
Soc sorry for your DD2.
pictures! Grin my mum is watching too! Antiroyal family I married into probably not!

StoneBaby · 29/04/2011 18:48

Thanks for sharing your tantrum / headbangung experiences. It makes me feel better especially as we've had a very hard end of the day.

My mum is arriving tomorrow. She'll be so surprised by what he can do now. At least she can see him on skype

StoneBaby · 29/04/2011 18:49

bethy sorry to hear about the chicken pox

sc poor you and family

SocietyClowns · 30/04/2011 07:00

Howls of despair..... Shock We are due to fly in a few hours and dd2 woke after a restless night with her tummy covered in a rash! Over breakfast I have watched more appear on her neck and behind her ear... Argh. She has been exposed to chickenpox and the incubation fits, so I am now just begging her to keep her face clear until we get on that flight! I don't know the policy but bet they won't let us fly with a child with clear chickenpox signs? Sad
Waving at beth, how's your ds?

InmaculadaConcepcion · 30/04/2011 08:07

bethy - I hope DS2 is okay with the pox and not too itchy.

Ah, bother Soc - your poor DD2 and what an unbelievable illness nightmare you're having at the moment. I hope you can get home okay. Sad

We've had friends staying the last couple of nights so I've been sharing a room with DD. She's slept through each night, bless her (and no signs of vaccination reactions thus far, thankfully...) but boy, does she fidget! Usually the monitor is on too low to hear her tossing and turning in her sleep, but being a light sleeper, I was VERY aware of it while on the mattress near her cot. Thankfully I'm back in my own bed tonight!

LeMousquetaireAnonyme · 30/04/2011 10:18

OOps Sorry soc, may be it is something else. Chickenpox usually don't come with a rash just blisters. Hopes you can get home or stay longer which ever you decide. I hope she won't be too ill, that is a long time of successive illnesses.
FYI I moved to romania with DD1 having chicken pox (2nd day), the doc let us, the crew too, DH and my parents too, I had no support on wanting to delay the flight. I still feel guilty for all those un immunised adults who got infected (I got it really bad at 25 so can empathized). TBH I thought the doc would have said no.

StoneBaby · 30/04/2011 11:11

DS slept until 8am this morning!! Shock But he's got a bit of temperature (38.5C) so it my be why.

DH and I have been on a cleaning mission this morning to get the house in shape for tomorrow visitors. It was hard to me as DS was holding my legs/skirt crying/whinging. At the end as DH finished before me, he took DS for a drive to do the recycling... I managed to do all the kitchen in no time thanks to this.

IC great news on the sleeping through. They are noisy during their sleep amazingly! Smile

sc oops, can it be something else than pox because as mousquetaire said I also don't think it come with a rash. Can it be roseola? The rash comes out once the temperature stops (DS had it a few months ago, 4 days of high 39C, 5th day no fever but a rash)

StoneBaby · 30/04/2011 11:12

It should read 'it may be why'

It'll teach me not to read before I post Blush
