soc I'm with you on peanut butter! Similarly, my children don't eat cauliflower or white cabbage, because I don't like them. But they eat alot of daal and rice (I'm Indian and it's a doddle to make) and I'm a pretty competent cook so they get a varied diet.

In fact, any time DD1 is threatening to restrict what she eats, I get her to help me cook. She finds it fascinating, and it makes such a difference to her diet. She has happily helped me make gnocchi, pasta sauces, fajitas, do baking...

Soc I'm not so worried about the frequency, it's the graininess of it that I find disconcerting. But I guess it must be due to diet.

Mous my DD2 has had similar days. I'm like you, and just think "Not hungry" and end the meal, rather than offering alternatives. I worried much more with DD1!

SocietyClowns · 06/06/2011 14:08

BBB sorry, misunderstood, no it's not grainy here. I'm sure it's just how she's made Smile

PenguinArmy · 06/06/2011 18:08

BBB Still thinking of you

I think SG is OK as I saw her on a childbirth thread

DD was born normal (25th centile 6lbs 12.5oz), just has just been a slow gainer (thankfully first few weeks were OK otherwise might have run into trouble with HCPs). Up to 6 months 3oz was the most she would put on in a week and then it slowed down even more.

Well DD has learnt to shake her head and although I think she knows it means no, she likes it so much she just does it a lot of the time for the sake of it.

Seeing what other peoples DCs eat is very reassuring so thanks to all. DD woke up at 4:45 today, clearly needing to go back to sleep but too close to her waking time. I think if it had been earlier we would have another 90min waking. Hoping this stage doesn't last long. We've moved her bedtime again to 7-7:30 but know it will take at least a week to see if it has any effect. I think she is 64 weeks, is there anything around here? I think I recall a 66 week wonder week.

3 weeks left of work (but still have to tell prof I want that last 4th week off) 8 and a bit weeks until we fly.

SocietyClowns · 06/06/2011 18:40

I love the way dd2 likes to help. She brought me my washing up gloves after dinner... (so much for equality Grin). She's also given herself the job of PA (personal assistant I mean, not PA) to dd1's fashion shows and likes to hand her the next skirt/top etc from the chest of drawers Grin. dd1 is not so convinced though because dd2 chooses the 'wrong' items... I honestly don't know where I got that child from - she went though almost everything she owns earlier and spent the last two hours walking around in a t-shirt and underpants Hmm because nothing seemed right. I am really quite relieved she's going to be in school uniform from September.
I really struggled today with my two. dd1 has now had 11 days of half term (she only does three days at nursery but it is good for both myself, her and dd2 who can play without being harrassed), dh was away last weekend to work on our house in the Midlands (painting doors etc is somewhat easier without children around), and I have a head so full of cold I keep walking into things. This afternoon I really wondered how on earth I will survive seven weeks summer holiday!! Sometimes I do wish we had family I could farm one or both out to even just for an afternoon of 'me' time... Anyway, I'll better go and see what drugs we have in the cupboard (thrilling choice between aspirin, ibuprofen and paracetamol...)

InmaculadaConcepcion · 06/06/2011 19:18

Aw, Soc, poor you - no wonder you're struggling.

I hope your cold clears up soon.

Week 60 is the Wonder Week, PA - I said 66 weeks, but I had remembered wrongly. Count from your original due date.
Ugh, that's a horribly early waking up time. Hopefully your adjustment of bedtime will feed through her system soon.

Hmm, not very tactful of your DH, BBB, I'm not surprised you were miffed by his assessment of DD2.
Mmm, daal...haven't really tried DD on that, but I suspect she might go for it if we do it the soup way and make a runny daal which she can mop up with cubes of bread....
No graininess here, but poos are generally pretty squishy and DD's liking for dried fruit is often very evident in her nappies....

Wow, Mous, your DD2 is such a giant!! I seem to remember you saying she was always a fan of milk, though...? That may well be a contributing factor...

PenguinArmy · 06/06/2011 19:33

well DD never did the regressions at the right times anyway HmmGrin

soc I wish I could hug you in person and feed you up on lots of WineBiscuit and chocolate but virtual ones will have to do.

IC DD loves daal of all consistencies. Thicker ones work best for us as they cling to the bowl and spoon better. Yesterdays dinner was thrown on the floor bit by bit (and they were very yummy homemade wedges and bean burgers)

SocietyClowns · 06/06/2011 19:48

Aww, you are all lovely Smile
dd1 just called me saying her feet were too long and could I get the scissors... Took my brain a minute to work out she meant her toe nails... Grin. They were absolutely fine and she was just trying to buy time. Is there a 3 years 11 months sleep regression??

BigBadBear · 06/06/2011 19:54

soc sounds like my DDs! My DD2 also loves nothing better than to go through her sister's drawers of clothes, pulling them out onto the floor. And DD1 is quite particular about what she wears (but then so am I - and does anyone ever have that dawning realisation halfway through the day that they are dressed very similarly to their children? I often look down and realise we are all wearing jeans and pink tops - yesterday, we were all wearing flowery dresses and hairbands!).

Go for the ibuprofen/paracetamol combo, btw.

Like PA I find thicker daals best IC. DD2 is spoon-obsessed, so I can fill it with daal and rice and then she gets it to her mouth. Besides, I'm Punjabi and we only do thick daals (thin ones are Gujarati, seriously).

PA good luck with the sleep tonight (and you IC!), and with the last few weeks of work.

BigBadBear · 06/06/2011 19:55

You are all lovely, I agree soc. My little oasis of sanity in an otherwise manic world :)

StoneBaby · 06/06/2011 20:25

Just a quick post

Big hugs to BBB your DH needs his back side kicked

I do kind of dahl for DS on the thick side as it's easier to self feed.

Waves to all

SocietyClowns · 06/06/2011 20:40

I am about to eat my fourth ring doughnut of the day Grin and feel very good about that. I made dd1 share hers with dd2 and successfully hid the rest...

LittlebearH · 06/06/2011 20:42

PA Hope a better night tonight for you.

Soc Have the drugs taken any effect?? Get well soon.

Been lovely to see what you are all feeding your LOs. I tried cous cous tonight. She hated it. Took absolutely ages to eat home made pizza. I think she would do better with more teeth. She only has 8 (4 top, 4 bottom, no molars or canines yet) She had about 3 fingers of it and some sweetcorn. She demolished half a banana and a fromage frais, so hope she wasn't still hungry.

I am worried she has too much pasta and veg, but she seems to eat so much more when I give these. I should be grateful she loves vegetables and fruit I suppose. She hates eggs, have tried omelette, boiled, fried and scrambled. I did have limited success with eggy bread. She also has my aversion to tomatoes. (i will let that go Grin)

We joined our local library recently, it is fantastic. We went to take back her 1st load of books and got some new ones today. I wont bother buying her anymore, they have so many. They are in good condition too. I tell DD to go and choose a book, and she gets a big one full of words and sits down as if to read it. So funny, a couple of people saw this and laughed.

Work tomorrow, oh joy. My mum asked how long I am going to keep this up, going to work at 5.45am and everything else I have going on. Tbh I was a bit Hmm like I have a choice.

Hugs to all that need one.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 06/06/2011 20:50

I'll stick with the Gujarati variety then, BBB as DD is largely averse to spoon-feeding atm, so it needs to be something she can mop up with bread... Smile

DD eats masses of pasta, LBH, don't worry - we sneak extra vegetableness and protein into her by either giving her tricolour pasta and/or egg pasta and/or tortellini stuffed with spinach and ricotta. DD doesn't like eggs if they're too "eggy" but very cheesy omelettes and pancakes are usually well-received. We sneak tomato into her by spreading a little tom puree onto bread and melting cheese on top of that (bread pizza) or mixing a little in with cheese sauce for pasta....

PenguinArmy · 06/06/2011 20:54

Our pediatrician told us that they would go through stages of eating one main thing/food group and to not stress about it, even if it's mac and cheese every night. They know what they need. That's why I try to be happy with offering new things but letting her eat the things she seems to enjoy.

SocietyClowns · 06/06/2011 20:58

LBH you can never have too much pasta and veg Grin. dd2 comes after dh and could live on pasta, whereas dd1 comes after me and we could happily eat potatoes at every meal. Oh, and I can't get dd2 to eat eggs either.
Hope you have a good day tomorrow. Getting up that early must be hard!

Ibuprofen not working yet but doughnut went down a treat and it's nice to have two little girls fast asleep and looking adorable (smile). I used to think my dad was daft for saying we (four of us!) were all very sweet, especially when asleep.... Now I understand perfectly.

SocietyClowns · 06/06/2011 20:59

Ah PA don't agree on children knowing what they need. In my dd1's case today that would have been doughnuts....

PenguinArmy · 06/06/2011 21:00

I don't think I've met a potato thing I don't like, it's tasty in every way. Pasta on the other hand bleurghh. DD seems to want to stick to bread and do neither.

LittlebearH · 06/06/2011 21:13

Soc Good on you re the doughnuts!
Wish DD would like potatoes, I am quite accomplished at mash Grin

Like the idea of bread pizza IC Never thought of it. I am not a very adventurous cook. I am capable when time or if I can be bothered. I have never tried lentils or chickpeas other than as hummous or daal in an indian. (not made either of these myself)
I tend to only cook with pulses by chucking them into a casserole to bulk them up. The books I have been given (Annabel K etc) are too much of a faff. Making faces out of food and using shape cutters for sandwiches.

Maybe I should look past the childrens' section in our library!!

PenguinArmy · 06/06/2011 21:17

daals are really easy, they're one of our lazy meals. Due to have a tarka dal this week.

I've never managed to make hummous in a way I like so tend to make a cannellini bean dip instead with lemon juice, coriander and sometimes paprika. Paprika roast potatoes are very good as well (IMHO)

flyingcloud · 07/06/2011 11:03

Hello everyone.

Marking my place will be back later.
(we have moved house and lots of other things have happened, sorry for the absence).

BigBadBear · 07/06/2011 14:02

My DD2 doesn't like potatoes either, unless they aer jacket or mash. I've told her that she can't be in my family if she doesn't eat potatoes, but then she smiles at me and I tell her it's fine...:)

SconesForTea · 07/06/2011 14:12

Hey fc!

DD has had daal once I think, she did like it, I should probably make it again.

Thank goodness she eats eggs. When I am all out of inspiration/just cannot be bothered, it's scrambed eggs with toast fingers and that is generally a winner... (I would have said guaranteed winner until she refused it the other day Confused)

She loves pasta but hates potatoes, apart from chips (she has been in KFC twice and they don't salt their chips - she makes sure she gets her fair share). She won't eat homemade wedges, roast, mash, anything. I thought it was really strange but perhaps it's not so odd if some of yours are the same!

She's with the ILs today as usual (for a Tuesday - they offered to have her on a Tuesday and after considering it briefly I bit their hands off). I feel a bit funny about it though. They both come round to collect her about 10am, I offer coffee, retreat to kitchen to make, and... utter silence from the living room. I can see in, so know that DD is walking round offering books and toys to them, why don't they talk to her?! It makes me wonder what sort of interaction she gets all day at their house. Also MIL called her a "silly girl" for dropping a book or something. Am I being totally PFB for objecting to this? I would say "silly billy!" or somthing if she stumbled and fell (for instance) and help her up. But I wouldn't call her a silly girl, to me it sounds a bit like a telling-off... Am I being PFB? I know they mean well. But they are quite odd people and a part of me wonders if I should expose DD to them quite as much. But I love the time to myself...

LittlebearH · 07/06/2011 14:36

Scones With you I am afraid. I KNOW I am PFB but it annoys me when my brother comes round and sits on our sofa. He says well she doesn't really like me so I have to tell him to get off his lazy arse and show him how to play with her ie. on the floor. . Hmm

(btw I dont like him either Grin

Have asked my mum if she can turn This Morning off the bloody tv and play with her properly too when I am working from home. Blush

StoneBaby · 07/06/2011 17:25

Crakey teething is bothering DS at the moment. I wish they come out soon, as I want my happy baby back!

DS is more a potato than pasta boy, I eat either. No issues with eggs he'll happily eat soft boiled egg and soldier but I haven't really tried him on scrambled. He eats peanut butter I took a chance especially with his eczema and his probable asthma but so far so good.

Waves to fc and everybody else

Will be off line for a few days as our next destination doesn't have wifi unless we can find an unlocked one

SocietyClowns · 07/06/2011 17:52

Waving back at FC... come back and tell us more!! Smile
