Aw, BBB I'm so sorry things are feeling rough at the moment. Lots of ((UMN hugs)) to you. Is it just over childcare and related issues (you and your DH's problems) or do you think it goes deeper?
FX for your mum's recovery.
As for DD2's feet, it may be worth rattling on the door of the experts again as it's hard to know what to suggest otherwise. Are there super-supportive shoes that could help...?

Soc how rubbish to have a cold, poor you. Don't worry about the unorthodox footwear, you might set a trend...!

Today DD had a bowl of porridge for breakfast followed by a couple of soft prunes and a handful of raisins and dried apple.
She had a churro for her mid-morning snack (!) and for lunch ate veg and quinoa soup with lots of bread, cheese-spread and peanut butter "croutons" to mop it up. She followed that with some mango, three cherries and half a plum.
For mid-afternoon snack she had an apple and cinnamon rice-cake with cheese-spread and peanut butter on top. For supper she had tomato, cheese and quinoa blinis (with yet more cheese spread), followed by quarter of a banana, a sprinkling of goji berries, a paraguaya (sort of flattened type of peach) and a spelt biscuit to finish.
Can you tell we try to shovel as much protein into her as we can?!!
She still doesn't drink cow's milk, but necks water like it's going out of fashion. I don't think it matters, given all the cheese she consumes.
It's so hard not to get uptight about the amount and variety of food they eat, isn't it?! Today was a pretty good day, but DD goes through phases when she's less enthusiastic about food and I feel like tearing my hair out.

Have a wonderful holiday, SB!

Ooh, yes Mous I'm revelling in the beginning of the picota (black cherry) and breva (sort of big, purple, early fig) season.... Yum!!

Oops, sorry Scones - didn't mean to ignore you.
I think wrt the weaning you've done the right thing. If BF is distressing your DD, then it's clearly time to stop. I don't blame you for feeling emotional about it. I know I will when the time comes...
Grin at you and your DH teaching your DD how to snog...!

BBB sorry to hear things aren't so good. Sad Feel free to post your anger/frustration etc on here. It might help to let off steam Smile

IC I would have happily invited myself for lunch and dinner at yours today! What a fantastic menu. Wink I miss having proper seasons for fruit and veg over here. It's pretty much the same all year round in the shops, give or take a few pence difference in price.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 04/06/2011 20:29

You'd be very welcome, as long as you don't mind everything smothered in cheese spread, Soc Grin

DD has tempeh (sp?) burger, tortilla chips and a lot of cookie (we were at a cafe) IC sounds like your DD had a lot. Mine is getting into beige protein atm meat and fake alike, although I try and get her to have non meat stuff but she does steals DHs. With her eating atm I'm leaning towards at least it is something that isn't porridge, yogurt or peanut butter sandwiches.

BBB Sorry to hear things are that way way, sounds very stressful and sending lots of hugs your way. Are you and DH talking properly atm or is that half the problem

LittlebearH · 05/06/2011 13:05

Hi all. Today DD slept till 6.45am Shock So we are trying the 1 nap today. She normally goes down about 1.15pm but she went straight to sleep after lunch (12.20pm) She didnt eat as much probably because she was tired. Half a bowl of chicken risotto and a pot of mixed fruits in juice.
Interesting what you all post about what your LOs eat or dont eat. DD weighs 21.5lbs (9.8kilos) and remains on the 25th centile.

So this is what DD has on a normal day:
Breakfast is a 6oz bottle and an hr later, porridge/musli with warm milk,3 fingers of toast and a fruit squeezy pouch

Snack at 10.30am piece of strawberries and blueberries and drink water

Lunch 12noon beef casserole with finger food of 4 sprouts, diced turnips, parsnips and carrotts. Yoghurt (she eats sprouts whole Grin

Snack 3pm breadstick or malted milk biscuit and drink of water

Dinner 5pm Pasta shapes and mini sausages to cover up the mashed potato and half a banana. (she will not eat potatoes unless hidden)

6.45pm 7oz milk before bed.

Is this a lot?? My mum thinks DD should be huge due to what she eats.

She will eat more if she can eat it herself, so with a casserole she will get bored being spoonfed therefore will happily stuff diced veg in her mouth until it is "gone good girl!" The yoghurts and fruit pouches are for this reason.

It is hard to keep the variety as I never have a lot of free time to cook. I steam shedloads of veg though. It is disheartening to make stuff and then they refuse it. Fish pie is a no go...think its the combo of fish AND her dreaded potato!

BBB Sends hugs. I hope you are ok.

PA How did you get DD on peanut butter?? It is my favourite thing but have been too scared to try it in case DD has an allergic reaction.

SC Grin at odd shoes! I put coffee in the fridge the other day...

Sorry I have not "done" everyone but I am still in my pjs and it is after 1pm!!

Waves to all.

PenguinArmy · 05/06/2011 20:12

LBH Good news about the Sunday lie-in. DD woke at 6 but was awake for just over a hour in the night. It's OK though coz I slept in until 9am to catch up.

Erm we just gave her some, in a sandwich. She kept trying to steal my peanut butter toast so thought we should try her and see. Also figured it was a good way of getting fat and protein into her.

Does sound like she eats a lot, must be a big weight of your mind :)

LittlebearH · 05/06/2011 20:51

Aaargh just lost my post....

Anyway, it does sound a lot written down, yet I still worry on off days. (add anxiety to my list, god I must seem nuts) She is in 9-12 mo clothes as 12-18 are huge. My friends 9 mo is the same weight!

Must be all the running around she does. Her favourite games are being chased (by mummy pretending to be a big fat dinosaur shouting raaaahh!) and being caught, collapsing in giggles, and turning round and round to make herself dizzy and fall over. Oh and climbing on the sofa to get Ruby. Poor Ruby hates DD, she used to be able to escape with such ease. Not so much these days!

My friends DS she swears ate nothing but toast at the same age and was happy if he ate 3 spoons of anything.
If you put all our DCs in a room I bet they would all be soooo different. Yet they are all fine and normal for them.

The 1 nap was ok, she slept from 12.20pm to 2.40pm when DP went in to wake her as we were going out. Rewind a few months, I used to have to re-settle 3 times for a 90 min nap.

Things are getting a bit easier.....for now Grin

PenguinArmy · 05/06/2011 20:56

It's great at this age where they love those games isn't it. I was in mourning for a while when I realised DD wasn't a baby and feeling sorry that I hadn't enjoyed it more, but they just get better. It took me by surprise I thought the baby stage was the good one, but I read somewhere here once that the best stage is the one they're currently in. Very true (for the moment anyway).

When I find myself getting anxious I give DD some food that she can never turn down (banana) but she doesn't eat it, reminding me she knows what she needs. Even if it seems small.

DD is in 3-6/6-9 for the most part. If your DD is less than 50th centile it makes sense for her to be clothes below her age range.

LittlebearH · 05/06/2011 21:03

PA That is dinky, but she always has been hasn't she. But very early walker and mad as a box of frogs like mine!Grin

I did the same as you that no longer a baby thing. But this stage is funny. Nice to be able to communicate a bit now. I cant take my eyes off her. I am sooooooo pfb Grin

LittlebearH · 05/06/2011 21:04

PA Try peanut butter with celery, sounds gross but its amazing!

PenguinArmy · 05/06/2011 21:07

They are very beautiful and clever and clearly the best babies to have ever been born Grin

I used to have peanut butter with salad cream back in my non vegan days.

LittlebearH · 05/06/2011 21:20

DP is snoring on the sofa....gah. Off to bed now to sleep in starfish position, because I can Grin

LittlebearH · 05/06/2011 21:20

You are so right PA

BigBadBear · 06/06/2011 08:50

My dd2 is also in 9-12 month clothes. Even then the waists are far too big and I often find her trousers on the floor as she will have lost them while crawling. But dd1 is much the same and has to hang onto her trousers if she's on the trampoline! Dd2 is on the 95th centile for height and the 9th for weight.

Her eating is unpredictable. Breakfast is usually a small bowl of cereal, a couple of ounces of milk, then some toast with jam an hour or so later. She'll have a mid-morning snack of fruit, then lunch may be a small jacket potato with tuna and sweetcorn mayo with salad, followed by fruit. Mid-afternoon she'll have a biscuit and more fruit, then dinner is along the lines of scrambled egg with smoked salmon and toast, followed by yogurt and more fruit. She drinks water all day, but at bedtime will have a scant half cup of milk.

SocietyClowns · 06/06/2011 09:24

PA how much did you dd weigh at birth? Was she premature?

dd2 wears anything from 9-12 mths to 2-3 years. There is a surprising variety in how big/small clothes are despite the label. Today she is in leggins 1 1/2 to 2 years, tshirt 2-3 years and cardigan 6-9mths!

SocietyClowns · 06/06/2011 09:25

BBB your dd2 eats salad? Wow! Can't get either of mine to do that... Smile

SocietyClowns · 06/06/2011 09:26

sorry, 'leggings'

SconesForTea · 06/06/2011 09:38

DD won't eat salad either Smile

I started giving her peanut butter when I re-booted weaning at 9 months, figured there are no allergies in our families and like PA, reckoned it's a good way of getting fat and protein into her. She seems to either love it or hate it Confused Yesterday she had a terribly picky day, ate hardly anything, and only played wiith her peanut butter toast, rubbing it in her hair and all over her face Hmm It is funny to see DH's and my different reactions. I stand there and say, she's not eating, oh no, what can we try next, etc and he says - she's not hungry, and gets her out of her chair! I'm sure he has the right attitude but I can't help worrying.

She had another meltdown at bedtime last night - in the end I got her up for a quiet read with me downstairs, and tried again 20 mins later. It didn't work - after trying calpol, powders, cuddles and reading, we had to leave her to cry Sad Two 10-min sessions and she was out, I wish I didn't find it so hard.

BBB fingers crossed for your mum. NO wonder you and DH aren't getting on, with all the stress you're under. Big hugs.

Shame the weather's broken - no washing on the line today - in fact I'm considering turning the heating on to dry it on the airer or it may smell mouldy Still, the garden is in desperate need and will appreciate the week's solid watering it's in for...

SocietyClowns · 06/06/2011 09:45

scones I'm with your dh on the food thing but have been accused of being too strict with mine... Hmm If mine start playing with their food it means to me that they are no longer hungry, and I take the food away. I am all for exploring textures but would rather use playdoh, water, sand etc than lunch Grin. I also rarely give too many options eg when dd2 doesn't like her lunch I take it away and she waits for dessert until myself and dd1 have finished, too. She doesn't get an alternative. (I'm already cooking three times a day so refuse to cook special meals for everyone! This includes dh who is the fussy one in this house)

InmaculadaConcepcion · 06/06/2011 09:56

Sorry to hear you had a tough bedtime, Soc. It's so stressful when they do that, isn't it?

Like PA I just gave DD some peanut butter one day, trusting in the fact that neither myself nor DH have any allergies and our families are also fairly allergy-free.
I agree it's a leap of faith, LBH, but on the balance of probabilities, we went for it and it was fine. I understand you being cautious, though!

We've just had the third night of sleeping-through on the trot, which is great. The temperature has gone down here, which I think is one of the factors helping DD sleep better. Her canines are still on their way, but don't seem to be bothering her at the moment.
Typically I woke just after 04.30 this morning and didn't get back to sleep.... So annoying to waste a sleep-through night with pointless insomnia, pah!

DD is wearing 12-18 months leggings and they seem to fit her fine, maybe a teeny bit on the long side, but the bulk of her washable nappy stops them being too saggy. Bodies are either 9-12 months or 12months plus, although those are generally a bit too baggy. Her tops are still mainly 9-12 months and she's wearing one 3-6months dress as a blouse.....

You okay, BBB?
Your DD is so tall!!!

OP posts:
BigBadBear · 06/06/2011 12:00

DD2 eats salad enthusiastically but not competently. She only has five teeth so carrot and cucumber go in, but come out again! We have given peanut butter (despite DD1 having eczema, asthma and hayfever), but she doesn't seem keen. I'm much like others in that I try to not cook too many different things. If I'm not at work, I'll eat with the DDs (so lunch may be soup and a sandwich) but DH and I tend to have dinner after they have gone to bed, so I'll do something quite easy for the DDs, like pasta (sauces pre-made in freezer and chuck in some veg and protein), fish with potatoes or noodles and veg etc. DD1 eats everything (her favourite food is sushi, I kid you not), so it's pretty straightforward.

Some days DD2 eats very little. I try not to panic and then give her a banana! And I remember that over a week, she's fine. She was 6lb 2oz at birth, so was tiny then (but very long), and has stuck to the same proportions ever since.

Anyone else's DCs do poos like sand? I'm trying to work out if that's normal or a possible sign of muscle atonia (especially as she veers between constipation and terribly runny poos). DH said last night that he was worried that DD2 has a "hideous genetic disease". I told him that I understood his intended meaning, but didn't like the language he was using. He didn't get it :(

Who asked about naps? DD2 has one nap, around lunchtime. Anything from 30 minutes to an hour and a half. Sometimes she drops off in the car or pushchair later on if we are out and about, but it doesn't seem to affect her night sleep.

scones sorry bedtime was stressful. It's ever so hard when they are upset, isn't it.

I'm OK thanks IC - good news on Rosie sleeping a bit better.

And thanks for the good wishes for my mum. You are all lovely, you know that?

LeMousquetaireAnonyme · 06/06/2011 12:25

BBB thinking of you, your mum and your DD.

DD2 is in 3-4 (104cm) T-shirt and 2-3 (98 cm) shorts (a bit tight on the bum because not meant to be worn with nappies). I think she is 12 kg and 87 cm will check with the doc later today.

She ate half a banana for breakfast with 2 small crackers and a cup of milk.

Lunch was half a very small cucumber (1/5 of the cucumber you normally have in the UK), a small jar of 8 months old food (Hmm). She refused potatoes and tuna I had prepared. A hand full of cherries (my hand).

She might have milk and bread, half an apple/cucumber or half a banana as a snack. (or nothing)

Diner last night was one bite of potato Hmm, a small slice of ham, water melon and strawberries (too much she stole the left over), 2/3rd of a plain petit filou. A cup of milk before bed.

drinks about 5-6 cups of water during the day (but it is hot, she already had that today)

I am stricter than soc usually if the main is not eaten it means not hungry so that is it (very flexible when ill), otherwise both of mine would eat only cheese/yogurt and fruits.
She hasn't been eating a lot lately so I caved in today and gave the jar (she was clearly hungry but really stubborn, lunch lasted 2h on and off the chair Confused).

SocietyClowns · 06/06/2011 12:49

BBB my dd1 has always had poos on the loose side but seems perfectly normal. Took her to the GP once and they said if she only goes once a day it's not diarrhea (sp?) and not to worry (well, it didn't stop me worrying...)

mous If it is hot, I am not surprised you dd is not so hungry. I never feel hungry when it's hot..

Well, we've had our 'heatwave' (ie. 23 degrees at the weekend Grin) and it's a bit on the chilly side again at 17 degrees. Normal UK summer I guess...

SocietyClowns · 06/06/2011 12:58

No peanut butter here, not due to allergy fears but because I think it's vile and won't buy it... Grin
