It was getting desperate and since MrsMCJnr suggestion came in last and I was being lazy I just went for that - hope that is ok.

was thinking of sumo wrestler but thought he might get too hot Grin

Got a large sheet of card and am going to make him a large flattish cone shaped hat iyswim. He can colour it in afterwards etc.

J's teacher said they can come in red & white for the flag so have got that covered and am going to give him a small (very small!!) tub of rice and some chop sticks.

Do you think that sounds ok???

Fillybuster · 06/07/2011 16:38

Is his country japan? Am confused....

latrucha · 06/07/2011 16:56

What about some Japanese rice crackers? You can get them in supermarkets now, I think.

simpson · 06/07/2011 18:55

yes or sushi Grin Grin

Well, J very happy to wear red/white combo as apparently his teacher gave that as an example Grin

We have made the hat and J has "decorated" it!!

It will just have to do!!!

Yes filly his country is Japan, they have been learning about it all week Smile

Fillybuster · 06/07/2011 22:39

Sorry Simpson, I was just a bit slow on the uptake there! I think the hat is a brilliant idea :)

latrucha · 07/07/2011 10:11

I am a total failure at fancy dress! I can't wait until S+D go to the same school so I can send them in stripy t'shirts as Thing One and Thing Two from Dr Suess every single time.

I reckon I could do a ninja though... Grin

simpson · 07/07/2011 12:10

there were a couple of ninjas this morning and some sumo wrestlers too. Everyone in the class seemed to have made a real effort which was nice Grin

Dreading M going to the nursery school though. Next wk the kids there have to go as an animal Not good at that type of thing!!

At least I don't have to worry about that till sept.

Got M's home visit tomorrow for the nursery school.

Fillybuster · 07/07/2011 15:31

I spent an entire evening stitching tiger-print fabric onto the arms and legs of A's clothes a few years ago when he needed to be an animal for nursery . I am so not that sort of mother...!

But he did look good :) (admittedly in a slightly rough-around-the-edges way) and I did feel smug when a load of his classmates turned up in bought outfits but were all admiring his...Grin

simpson · 07/07/2011 18:25

well, J was very proud of his outfit as he was the only one with a hat[ grin]

Just back from M's little dance class which she totally loves

Filly - that reminds me, most of the kids (mainly girls) at M's dance class are around her age and some are a bit older...but not many of them can skip. Can T skip???

Also I need your advice again guys Blush

M constantly needs my attention and will not leave me alone to natter to friends when we are at someones house or toddler group etc...

The way she tries to get my attention is by saying she needs the loo

If I refuse to take her she makes a big show of hopping up and down saying she is going to wet herself etc but when I take her she will squeeze the tiniest wee out ie not desperate at all!!!

Then we go back to whatever we are doing and 5 mins later we go through the whole thing again he saying she needs a poo now

WWYD???

Fillybuster · 07/07/2011 22:32

Simpson - funny you should ask....T can hop really well on one leg now, and intermittently on the other - I just started teaching her to skip this week and she sort-of got the idea but finds it hard to remember the 'put one leg down, hop, then put the other leg forward and down, hop etc' rhythm and ends up half running half skipping :) :) I think it takes a while to get the hang of it - and we probably looked like total loons skipping through the park hand-in-hand giggling while singing 'daisy daisy give me your answer do' Grin

But now I feel really guilty that I still haven't sorted out dance classes for T...and she's desperate...

Well done on the costume :)

No idea about the toilet going/attention seeking - will think about it...

simpson · 07/07/2011 22:36

M only been going to the dance class for 3wks. Its run by our local childrens centre at J's school.

M cannot skip at all, she gallops Grin

I just wonder how much of it is her hypermobility and how much is just "normal" 3yr old stuff iyswim, although isn't T hypermobile too??

mixedmamameansbusiness · 09/07/2011 10:29

Another fancy dress one.

S has his end of term dress up next Wednesday and the theme is Music - what the ?????? Absolutely have no money what with going on holiday the following day so needs to be something we can manage ourselves.

Ideas most welcome.

Has he got something like a toy trumpet? You could sling it round his neck and make him a 'piano' tie maybe with black or a white one from a charity shop, plus a suit jacket and hat or something and he could go as the music man (you know the song 'I am the music man, I come from round your way..').

Or a hat or tabard made out of sheet music (see charity shop again)

simpson · 09/07/2011 21:18

LaT has got some good ideas, personally love the idea of a tabbard with a sheet of music on it Grin Grin

M went to bed in disgrace today for kicking J in the head Feel bad as she cried herself to sleep, but I had reached breaking point tbh Blush

Its just been one of those days Hmm

The weeing for attention is getting out of hand, we were at the park today with a friend and her kids and she asked to go 4 times in a hr!!! And every time is when I just sit down for a chat with friend etc....

But good news (brag alert sorry!!) got J's school report yesterday and he is a year ahead in all the main subjects Grin

When M had her home visit for the nursery attached to the school the teachers that came (one of whom taught J in nursery and reception) they said that J's form tutor does not stop talking about J in the staff room about how bright he is She also could not beleive how different M is to J. Ie J is very reserved, shy, sensitive etc and M is the total opposite.

They also said its obvious M is very bright as her speech is incredible. They said she was 3 going on 13 Grin Grin

mixedmamameansbusiness · 09/07/2011 21:21

Simps - Grin Grin brilliant.

JustKeepSwimming · 11/07/2011 22:09

Just popping in to say hi, as laptop was on the blink but has finally come back to life today, yey!

fancy dress

T is on sch hols already, managed a trip to town with him & M this morning. Though feeding M and reading a Ben 10 book aloud in a TKMaxx changing room was interesting Grin

H doing fab, had review meeting at sch, loads of detail but bottom line is he will be in mainstream by secondary at the latest Grin anything earlier is up to him...

simpson · 11/07/2011 22:14

JKS - thats fab news on H Grin Grin Grin

Have had lots of tears this eve from J as he does not want to say goodbye to his teacher Sad

Teacher is going back to Oz so leaving the school.

Got parents eve tomorrow Smile

M's weeing is getting out of hand 9 wees while she was at playgroup for an hr and 45 mins Hmm Its all for attention as its always at places where she cannot go by herself as loo to high up Hmm

TBH am going to get tough with her but going to get J through saying goodbye to his teacher first.

Another proud moment Smile He has been going to beavers for a few wks and he came back with the scarf & toggle thingie today, he was soooo chuffed Grin

madmouse · 12/07/2011 10:50

JKS that is fabulous - who could have thought that 2 years ago Grin - I'm so proud and pleased Grin

Fillybuster · 12/07/2011 11:42

Simpson - brilliant news on J's report - well done Grin.

JKS - that's totally amazing!!! Nearly made me cry (well, actually, it did make me cry....) I can't believe what amazing leaps and bounds H has made from the sad looking little boy I visited at GOSH only 18 months ago! That has absolutely made my day :) :) :) :) :) :)

I was going to have a rant about Tamara's nursery but I think I'll leave things in happy-land now :) But am stuck at home with Mia and Tamara, both with 39 degree fevers...and poor Tamara is missing her end-of-year concert and class party. She's being brave about it but is clearly gutted. Bless.

Rant to follow...off to think happy thoughts about JKS for a bit :)

madmouse · 12/07/2011 17:08

We had Nathan' review meeting today too - all positive :)

He's doing well in all areas and very settled. Teacher said she wouldn't mind a class full of Nathan's Grin as he's so easy to teach.

They think academically he will be fine for mainstream as any learning delays are due to his mobility limiting his access to things. They would still probably offer him a place at the special school as he fulfills their criteria (it is a special school and science college with specialism in physical disabilities and autism rather than learning disabilities)

Problem is we will move house (as dh will move jobs) before Nathan starts school - but we don't know when or where. We would quite like Nathan to go to this school because he is very independent there as his mobility doesn';t get in the way and they also foster independence ie they have small classes but no one-to-one TAs. so we've decided to try hard to find a post for dh in the school's (thankfully wide) catchment area.

In any event we're starting statementing process in the new school year. Brrrr - thankfully the school will do most of the work!

simpson · 12/07/2011 19:48

fantastic news madmouse Grin Grin Grin

When will you be moving??

Went to parents eve today and looked at J's handwriting book. He had written "when I am in the house by myself I like to play with my toy cars and my marbles" Blush Blush

He actually meant front room by himself Grin

madmouse · 12/07/2011 23:10

Simps we have no idea when (other than before Easter - probably!) or where! It depends on where the right position comes up!

latrucha · 13/07/2011 17:12

Just a quick one - i want to respond to all your good news later.

Does anyone know where that thread about stuff to do in the hols is? It was on the daily round up and I meant to 'watch' it but never did.

S and I made a list of fun things to do at home, including bouncing on the bed and cheese. Hmm It was encouragingly long!

latrucha · 14/07/2011 18:30

Madmouse - that's wonderful news about Nathan. You must be so pleased.

JKS - similarly, I'm so happy for you. How do you feel?

Simpson - It's very trying, but my hunch is that you don't get rid of attnetion seeking behaviour by refusing to respond to it. I'm having a similar thing with S at the moment in that every tiny scratch and bump (and I mean miniscule) send her into floods of tears. I'm not sure what's causing it other than her lunatic brother who regularly pulls her hair and hits her with wooden block but I tend to just give her a kiss and cuddle and send her on her way rather than make an issue of it or try to reason with her as it's clearly something she feels she needs ATm. Can't wait for her to grow out of it though.
