A few first birthdays left, then we're full tilt into walking/talking and a mountain of mischief Smile

morning everyone

glad to hear I'm not the only one with a non-sleeping baby. last night was the same i.e. every 90 mins or so (though did have one 2 hr block) but alternating DH settling and me feeding. DH is feeling a lot better so we can hopefully get at it with more gusto.

DD did some good naps yesterday as well, a 60 mins and a 90 min. Not back to what she was, but progess. She is still not eating as much as she was.

Stonebaby you are right. I need to stop over thinking stuff. I'm going to tell him sooner rather than later. Apparently a job in Eindhoven (sp?) is coming up in a few months so there's stuff out there.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 28/02/2011 20:32

If DD wakes much before 07.00, I currently take her into bed with me and she will lie beside me latched on fairly happily for up to an hour. Then I change and dress her and we have our porridge.

If DD wakes close to 07.00 she loses the breastfeed (but if she's woken later, it usually means she's been up in the night and therefore had a feed anyway).

When I stop the breastfeeding in a few weeks time I may offer her at least a drink when she first wakes up (water if she won't accept cow's milk), then get her changed etc. before having breakfast.

Good to hear of the slight improvement in the naps, PA! Bummer about the night, though. I hope you and your DH have a better one tonight.

Belated happy birthday to you and your DD, fc! Sorry to hear about the illnesses. Get well soon.

How were the jabs, Scones?

Glad to hear the coughing is a little less, Shro.

Have you got an overflowing freezer, Abs?!

Gosh you lot have been very busy!

BG DS2 has sore ears too. Had them checked last Tuesday when I was told they were just red but he's still having problems so think he may have to go back tomorrow. I'm now thinking you don't always have to have a temperature to have an infection as I am fighting chest infection number 2 in 3 weeks and haven't had a temperature with either. Has really confused me!

Stoof and Rainbow welcome back! Glad your two LOs have had happy birthdays. Good lcuk with the house Stoof and glad the job is going well.

PA I kind of hoped you were really going ot be able to have it out with your boss and tell him what a wanker he'd been but I don't understand much about the politics of the postdoc world, so sure the advice you've had on here is much more relevant!

I'm very jealous of all of you going to see Take That as I spent an hour trying to get tickets, discovered my brother had extras by mistake but only after he'd put them on ebay - gutted!

Bit brain dead here as my chest infection is standing its ground and DS2 has decided that 4:20a.m. is the time to start playing. Yesterday he woke DS1 as well and we were all awake (though refusing to get up) from that time which was horrid! Why do they always do it on a Sunday and then need to be woken at 7a.m. on a weekday?!

Some good and bad news here today. My mum has had the all clear after her tests which is a relief. Smile Sadly, my neighbour has lost his fight against cancer this morning and his daughter is due to have her first baby on Friday. Sad Unfortunately, I turned up on an errand in between work visits this morning and he had died an hour earlier. His poor wife was alone, but wanted it that way, so I left feeling a little shellshocked and went on to my next school feeling somewhat numb. I didn't know him terribly well, but know his wife better. He was only 60. Sad

Anyway, don't want to end on a downer..

Annoyingly, having written the other night that DS2's alarm hadn't gone off in months, it did within 5 mins of writing!! I will not be mentioning it again!! (We are amused, rather than bothered, as we see the regional expert next week and at least we have something recent to say now!)

And on a much lighter note, the Queen is coming to our town on Friday and DH wants me to take our boys. Look out for two tiny tearaways causing mayhem on the news!! DS1 is more excited that she's arriving on a train than actually seeing her. How do you answer to a nearly 3 year old who asks, "Who is the Queen?" !!

Hi to all the rest of you. We're off formula and bottles now - no more boring sterilising or bottle washing-hooray! One less chore to do each night!

chinook · 28/02/2011 21:19

I thought I was so uncool with my Take That habit but seems I am in good company Grin. One of my claims to fame is that in my younger, and infinitely more gorgeous, days I was 'specially selected' by Robbie Williams minder (who I was chatting up to at a party) to accompany him back to the their hotel to shag meet Robbie. I declined. Talk about being seen as a piece of meat. He hadn't even met me. Odd though that I had such high morals on that occasion, because they were notably absent on plenty of others!

Thanks for that link to the Facebook group, IC I have bookmarked it and will get round to joining soon. I spent a very enjoyable few minutes working out who everyone was.

I am well chuffed with myself today. I was so unhappy with my weight that I was even boring myself, so I decided to join Weight Watchers 3 weeks ago, and have lost 10 lbs. I feel so much better. Seems like humiliation is a great motivator for me! I don't actually have too much to lose so when I have, I will put a lovely photo of the newly slim me on Facebook.

My ds is nowhere near sleeping through either. We have 3 or 4 wake ups a night. And that is an improvement on a few months ago when it was every 2 hours. Daytime naps are good though. I can't keep up with how quickly he is changing. His latest trick is to put objects down the toilet. How delightful it is to retrieve them.

I am supposed to be doing an invoice for dp and am getting loads of sarcastic comments so had better go. Night all. Or morning if you are in California.

ChestnutSoup · 28/02/2011 21:22
rainbowweaver · 28/02/2011 21:32

Thanks for the welcome all, it's nice to be back again. Dunno how long the current lull will last - recently I've had to spend my evenings working, been the case for the past few months. Luckily DH is very understanding.

Thanks IC have requested to join (my initials CC)

I just have to share this link a friend shared with me yesterday... ice cream anyone :)

PenguinArmy · 28/02/2011 21:44

me too bethy, but I felt really rough at the time and it all seemed pointless in the end. I'm just about to go and tell him my news.

rainbowweaver · 28/02/2011 21:45

ha - we are busy tonight!

bethylou · 28/02/2011 22:52

I hope you enjoy telling him PA. Can you slip in a few choice remarks while you are at it, or just email it, like he did to you with his chosen remarks?!!

Off to bed finally..

InmaculadaConcepcion · 01/03/2011 07:08

Morning All!

Ah, bethy Sad your poor neighbour.
Good news about your mum, though.

Good to see you on FB, rainbow! Love the pic!

Well, (with apologies to those struggling with broken nights...) DD has now done a hat-trick of sleep-throughs, three on the trot and didn't wake up today until almost 07.00
I was still a bit wakeful, but had a much better night overall. Looks like we're both getting there... Smile
I'm not naive enough to assume this is it and DD will be a great sleeper from now on, but it feels like a very big corner has finally been turned.

OP posts:
SconesForTea · 01/03/2011 10:43

IC that is fab news on the sleeping through! I am very very Envy Now you just need to sleep through yourself.

Schro hope both your DDs are feeling better. Also Abs' DD. and bethy's DS2. Poor loves.

bethy very sad news about your neighbour. How is his wife? 60 is no age Sad Great that your mum is in the clear Smile.

chinook Shock at your close encounter (almost) with Robbie! Great news on the weight loss. 10lbs sounds like a lot to me in three weeks?!

PA how did it go?

DD's jabs were pretty traumatic yesterday. She was trying to cry in pain, but couldn't catch her breath, so was just goggling at the nurse and making this sort of strangled noise for what seemed like ages, but was probably 10 seconds, before erupting into anguished and very loud screams. Thank goodness they are the last until she's 4. Apparently the effects can last for up to 6 weeks?! The nurse said just to give calpol if she seems off colour, don't think about it, just give it. How has everyone else found it? Any after-effects of note?

Well she's just woken up after a decent nap - an hour and a half - not like my micro-napper! We're waiting for our tumble dryer so are house-bound. It looks nasty out there, anyway.

BabyGiraffes · 01/03/2011 17:11

The network I borrowed suddenly vanished yesterday so I have felt oddly cut off... Just to reassure everyone that i would have taken dd2 straight to the doctor if she'd had a high temperature and/or oozing ears. I think they were mostly sore, partly due to infection and possibly also due to teething. She seems somewhat better now so I am hoping for the best for our flight tomorrow.
Waving at everyone in case the network vanishes again! Smile

BabyGiraffes · 01/03/2011 18:31

dd2 now does three steps on her own Smile. I don't call it walking as such. It's more a case of launching herself, running, and crash landing in/on/ against her target Grin

When I just checked the FB group dd2 next to me in the highchair casually reached on to the table, took a small full water glass, drank from it, and carefully placed it back on her tray!!! Shock I then indulged her and kept pouring a bit of milk into it for her to take and drink. She loved her independence! I may even get rid of the sippy cup but obviously with a glass I have to stand next to her to make sure she doesn't throw it on the floor...

BabyGiraffes · 01/03/2011 19:27

St DavidsGrin So glad I am abroad and missing all the fun!!!

StoneBaby · 01/03/2011 19:31

Just went to the HV. DS now weights 10kg (1st 8lb) and measures 75cm (2 feet 46) so he is at 50th centile for weight and 25th centile for height.

13 months jabs for us are on Friday. Hopefully they'll go fine, only issue is that I won't have the dummy to give him to comfort him.

PA how did your 2nd conversation went?

BabyGiraffes · 01/03/2011 19:48

Scones your poor dd... mine was furious about the jabs and made her feelings known! Smile I think she was also rather shocked that the nice nurse who'd made her smile would do something so ghastly to her...
How did your job interview go by the way?

Oh, and PA hope your second meeting went well. I hope he went suitably pale when you mentioned your pregnancy... Grin (You could probably accuse him of discrimination if he doesn't offer you a new contract! Even if you don't want it, you should scare him a little by threatening to sue or something... He deserves a little panic!!! Grin)

bethylou · 01/03/2011 21:50

Rubbish Mummy report... DS2 does have an ear infection, dspite not managing a temperature over 37.1 and no oozing. I think I have to throw the rule book out the window for him if he's not going to give me clues about being ill! He was just hitting his ear every now and then. Ear drops now which smell of lavendar!

However, he got his own back this morning by clobbering me round the cheek bone with a die-cast train. I think DH is quite relieved that it has not come up as a shiner as the other one has only just gone. Explaining a second black eye in a month might have been a bit tricky!!

Well done on the walking BG's DD2 9and hope the flight goes well.

Jabs sound horrid Scones. I had to cancel last week as DS2 was unwell so will have to try and fit them in again once he's a bit better.

Good luck SB - hope your DS's jabs go less eventfully. DS2 is above the 90th for weight and height at the mo and is now enjoying wearing the clothes for 18-24 months with a few 2-3years thrown in for good measure! I have spawned a jolly giant!! He will be bigger than DS1 very soon and I'm beginning to worry that I'll be told off for overfeeding him! Maybe I should change my name to Babyhippo?! (although would need to take account of DS1 with Babystickinsect too!!)

IC I'm glad to hear DD is stil sleeping for you - it gives me hope that DS2 will do it again soon!

flyingcloud · 01/03/2011 21:52

DD is having some kind of sleep regression at the moment! I thought it was her bronchitis, so DH and I have been doing night shifts for the last two nights and doing lots of comforting in the dark, trying to ensure she doesn't wake up properly. Tonight she woke up at 9.30pm and screamed the place down if we so much as suggested putting her back in bed.

Finally after a lot of futile ssshhh-patting, picking up, soothing, putting back down, etc, etc, I got her up, turned on her night light and read her a story. She calmed right down and after reading it through four times ... put her back to bed with the book and she read it herself for a while (lots of gabbling noises as she holds the book upside down and turns the pages). She has now (sshhh) gone back to sleep, on her own.

I fully expect another wake up tonight.

She has been catnapping during the day too so I think she is over tired and going through a bit of separation anxiety.

Sorry a bit of a me, me, me post. Bronchitis isn't too bad - not much of a fever and in fairly good form.

Chinook - 10lb in 3 weeks I am so Envy - I need to lose the final stone before we start ttc.

ChestnutSoup · 01/03/2011 21:59

Flying in my house we call that a reboot (when you turn on the bedside lamp, read a story, then say good night and tuck them up again). I'm married to an IT manager...

No time for much more (I've had one of those evenings when everything has been more work than it should have been, culminating in my burning some rhubarb I was stewing), but hope everyone is OK, what with all the sleep issues, ear infections and stroppy bosses out there.

Night night all x

PenguinArmy · 02/03/2011 03:37

Total nap time = 0

SchrodingersCatFliesToOz · 02/03/2011 07:07

BG St Davids to you too. No chance here, daffodils can't grow through 5 cm of ice Sad.

PA though! hope the night will be fine.

CS Grin at reboot.

bethy The french embassy kindly provided me with their version of the red book for DD2. The BMI for a baby around 1 yo should be around 17 for boy, 17.5 for girls. (w/h)/h in kg and m.
I don't think your DS2 is a hippo Wink

We just had the MMR a months a go, we are doing the vaccinations in several batches. No side effects but then you can't really compare. Next one when the bronchitis is better. Still breathing funny and gurgling sounds.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 02/03/2011 07:29

Get well soon to all the poorly LOs...

Ooh, good stuff with the walking BG! Good luck with the flight.

There is a sleep regression at 55 weeks, fc, so the weeks surrounding that can be tricky.

On the subject of sleep, after her sleep-through hat trick, DD decided it would be wrong to let Mummy and Daddy get complacent about the nights and after taking a while to go down at bedtime last night, woke for a good hour and a half at 02.30, then was up at 06.00.
Two steps forward, one step back....

Love the "reboot", CS!

Meh at the lack of naps, PA.

BabyGiraffes · 02/03/2011 08:33

IC thought of you last night when I was awake for ever and totally unable to go to sleep... it's miserable. I probably got no more than 3 hours, so today's travelling should be interesting.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 02/03/2011 08:37

I'm sure it'll be okay.
